SEVERINA GIOVINALI
CUMBERLAND - Severina Giovinali, 86, of Cumberland, died Sunday, March 22, 1998, at Memorial Hospital.
Born Nov. 11, 1911, in Rome, Italy, she was the daughter of the late Sisto and Sista Delluomo. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Phillip Giovinali; and two brothers, Henry Delluomo and Lazarus Delluomo.
Mrs. Giovinali was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church.
Surviving are four daughters, Pauline Nield and husband William, Monaca, Pa., Mary Fauss and husband Ernest, Cumberland, Julia Lindner, Baltimore, and Anita Miller, Chicago; one son, Mark H. Giovinali and wife Barbara, Wiley Ford, W.Va.; 13 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one step-grandchild; two step-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. There will be a Christian Wake Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Patrick's Catholic Church on Wednesday at noon with Father Thomas R. Bevan as celebrant.
Interment will be in St. Mary's cemetery, Cumberland.
W. LEONARD HAENFTLING
ACCIDENT - W. Leonard Haenftling, 83, of 109 Haenftling Road, Accident, died Monday, Nov. 16, 1998, at Garrett County Memorial Hospital.
Born Nov. 18, 1914, in Accident, he was the son of the late John and Katherine (Burkhard) Haenftling.
Mr. Haenftling was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church. He was retired from the Garrett County Roads Department, where he was employed as a shovel operator and foreman for 26 years.
Surviving are his wife, Mabel Mae (Deal) Haenftling; a son, George Haenftling, Accident; three daughters, Helen Fike, Accident, Hazel Haenftling, Carbondale, W.Va., and Freda Border, Mount Airy; one brother, Carl Haenftling, Accident; and seven grandchildren, Allen and Gary Fike, Linda Meyers, Brenda Border, Lynda Duter, Penny Grimes and Kevin Haenftling.
Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., McHenry, on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the Zion Lutheran Church, Accident, Thursday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Wilfred Karsten officiating.
Interment and graveside services will be held at St. Paul's Lutheran Church cemetery with the Rev. Roland Nairn III officiating.
Pallbearers will be Allen and Gary Fike, Earl Meyers, Tim Duter, Josh Grimes and Hobert Bowser.
Expressions of sympathy may be directed to the Zion Lutheran Church or St. Paul's Lutheran Church building funds.
KERMIT W. KOPE
OAKLAND - Kermit William Kope, 92, of 4185 Mayhew Inn Road, Oakland, died Saturday, April 4, 1998, at Cuppett-Weeks Nursing Home, Oakland.
Born March 14, 1906, in Deer Park, he was a son of the late John R. Kope and Lucinda (Chambers) Kope. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Leaura (Riley) Kope, in 1991.
Mr. Kope was a retired stone mason, and a member of the Lakeside Assembly of God Church.
Surviving are one son, K. Glen Kope, Chesterfield, Va.; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Friends may call at the Durst Funeral Home, Oakland, on Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Monday at 11 a.m.
Interment will be in the Paradise cemetery.
BERNARD M. JONES
CUMBERLAND - Bernard Marvin "Bill" Jones, 76, of Cumberland, died Friday, Aug. 7, 1998, at Memorial Hospital.
Born April 1, 1922, in Shepherdstown, W.Va., he was the son of the late Ernest Edgar and Leah Netta (Renner) Jones. He also was preceded in death by his twin sister, Bernice Robertson; and one brother, William Renner.
Mr. Jones was retired from the CSX Transportation Corp. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of the American Legion in Baltimore and American Legion Fort Cumberland Post 13.
Surviving are three sons, William M. Jones, San Diego, Robert A. Jones and wife Vincene, Alabama, and James "J.D." Jones and fiancee Gail Harmon, LaVale; one daughter, Pamela Sue, New Orleans; two sisters, Eileen E. Sterry, Greenridge, and Nellie Lee Whitney, Glen Burnie; and nine grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, Wednesday from noon to 1 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home Wednesday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Harold T. Shaffer and the Rev. Ernest F. Santmyire officiating.
Interment will be in the Maryland State Veterans cemetery at Rocky Gap. Graveside military honors will be accorded by the Combined Veterans Honor Guard.
WILLIAM W. HYDE
FROSTBURG - William Wescott Hyde, 83, of 50 Linden St., Frostburg, died Thursday, April 16, 1998, at his residence.
Born July 11, 1914, in Barton, he was the son of the late William T. and Bessie (Fazenbaker) Hyde. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma Mae (Miller) Hyde, in 1994.
Mr. Hyde retired from the Frostburg State University's maintenance department. He was a member of the Zion United Church of Christ. He also was a member of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees Council and was a recipient of the David J. Lewis Award for his loyal and faithful service to the Labor Movement and to the community.
Surviving are two sons, Paul Miller, Killbuck, Ohio, and William H. Hyde, Westminster; one daughter, Carolyn M. Gibson, North Beach; three sisters, Betty Tippen, Frostburg, Mary Elva Reed, Lothian, and Dorothy Mace, LaVale; two brothers, Donald Hyde, Fort Ashby, W.Va., and Herbert Hyde, Lothian; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Durst Funeral Home, 57 Frost Ave., Frostburg, Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday at 11 a.m. with Pastor Diane Smith officiating.
Interment will be in the Frostburg Memorial Park.

JOSEPH LECHMAN
FRIENDSVILLE - Joseph Lechman, 77, of 330 Fearer Road, Friendsville, died Monday, Nov. 2, 1998, at Monongalia General Hospital, Morgantown, W.Va.
Born May 23, 1921, in Fall River, Mass., he was a son of the late Peter and Mary (Kuzma) Lechman. He also was preceded in death by a son, Joseph Jr.
Mr. Lechman was a retired model maker for the Department of the Navy. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Marine Corps. He was a member of the VFW, American Legion, DAV, and Friendsville Lions Club. He was a life member of the Oakland Country Club.
Survivors include his wife, Ina Grace (Cole) Lechman; two daughters, Mary Mae Zagrodniche, Nanjamoy, Md., and Ina Rae Merson, Boyds, Md.; three sisters, Catherine Young, Woonsocket, R.I., and Barbara Korstchinsky, Blackstone, Mass., and Annie Townsend, North Smithfield, R.I.; five grandchildren, Tammy Glass and James Embrey IV, both of White Plains, Md., Joseph Lechman and don-E Merson, both of Tucson, Ariz., and Amy Etheridge, Henderson, Nev.; and four great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., Friendsville, on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday at 1 p.m. with pastor Dana Umbel officiating.
Interment will be in the Asher Glade cemetery.
