W. GLENN LEE
CUMBERLAND - W. Glenn Lee, 83, of Wempe Drive, Cumberland, died Sunday, July 5, 1998, at his residence.
Born Feb. 4, 1915, in Keyser, W.Va., he was the son of the late William A. and Faye E. (Cuppett) Lee.
Mr. Lee was retired from CSX Railroad. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served in World War II. He was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church, the Cumberland Moose, Western Maryland Historical Society, and the United Transportation Union.
Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Mrs. Myrtle A. "Bo" (Durbin) Lee; one daughter, Judith F. Carr, Cumberland; a sister, Louise Statler, Cumberland; three grandchildren, Jeffrey L. Carr, and wife, Joy, Cumberland, William Carr, and wife, Jean, Short Gap, W.Va., Michelle Davis, and husband, William, Cumberland; and nine great-grandchildren, Jennifer, Glenn, Melissa, Alicia, Cory, Gabriel, Julia, Kelly and Billy.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, on Tuesday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Wednesday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. James McMahon officiating.
Interment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park.
Military services will be conducted at the graveside by the Combined Veterans Honor Guard.
Pallbearers will be William Carr, Walter Durbin, Gary Bearinger, Howard Hovatter, Richard Phillips and Lester Houdershell.
FRANCES A. GREISE
CUMBERLAND - Frances Ann Greise, 86, of 11900 Greise Farm Road, Cumberland, died Friday, Oct. 30, 1998, at Memorial Hospital.
Born July 14, 1912, in Rowlesburg, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Leo Spicer and the late Mame (Bergman) Spicer. She was also preceded in death by her husband, the late Herman Greise, on March 24, 1969, and her daughter, Alice Thomas, on Nov. 15, 1957.
Mrs. Greise was a homemaker and she was a member of SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Sodality, Christian Mothers, Happy Valley Homemakers, and was Secretary of the Ladies Auxiliary of Bowman's Addition Fire Department for 50 years.
Surviving are three sons, William H. Greise and wife, Mary, Cumberland, David A. Greise and wife, Frankie, Houston, Texas, Franklin C. Greise and wife, Joan, Cumberland; two daughters, Barbara A. Hagan and husband, Dr. Gene Hagan, Huntington Valley, Pa., and Laura Lee Feaster and husband, John, Chesapeake City; one brother, Charles "Peck" May and wife, Gladys, Cumberland; and three sisters, Regina Kiefhoffer, Frederick, Libby Woodcock, Hagerstown, and Lucille Hershberger, Ohio; 22 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted on Monday at 11 a.m. at SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church with Father Vance Pastorious, celebrant.
Interment will be in SS. Peter & Paul Catholic cemetery.
A Christian Wake Service will be held on Sunday at 8:45 p.m.
FRANCIS A. KENNEY
CUMBERLAND - Francis Anthony Kenney, 82, of Cumberland, died Wednesday, March 25, 1998, at his residence.
Born Oct. 10, 1915, in Frostburg, he was the son of the late Mary Elizabeth (Counihan) and James Patrick Kenney Sr. He also was preceded in death by brothers and sisters, Ignaious Loyal Kenney, James P. Kenney Jr., Mary Catherine Snyder and Bernard Michael Kenney.
Mr. Kenney was the manager of the Maryland Employment Insurance Office of Cumberland for 22 years. He was Chief of Benefits Unemployment Insurance Agency and named to that post in 1972, assistant director Maryland Unemployment Insurance Agency in 1974, and director in 1975, worked 36 years for the Maryland Unemployment Insurance Agency, and retired July 1, 1977.
He was a 1935 graduate of Beall High School and a graduate of Frostburg State University where he received his bachelor and master's degrees in education.
Mr. Kenney was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and former member of the parish council; member of Cumberland Rotary where he was president in 1964 and 1965, and Paul Harris Fellow of that organization; member of Knights of Columbus Cumberland Council 586 Chief Justice Taney 4th Degree; served on the board of visitors for Frostburg State University; was past board member of Allegany County Nursing Home; former member and past chairman City of Cumberland Civil Service Commission; and past member of Appalachian Regional Council.
He was a former member of the board of directors of City, County and State Employee Credit Union; former president and district representative for International Association of Personnel and Employment Security; member six years for the Maryland State Guard 1941-1946; and member and former board member of Allegany County Chamber of Commerce. While on Chamber, he served as chairman of Trans Communication and was responsible for initiating proposal to build Interstate 68 from Morgantown to Hancock. He was the host to Lyndon B. Johnson's Presidential visit to Cumberland in 1964, and he was former board member of Sacred Heart Hospital Foundation.
Surviving are his wife, Lena (Georg) Kenney; one son, James Patrick Kenney III, Aiea, Hawaii; one daughter, Frances Ann Kenney, Richmond, Va.; three brothers, John Paul Kenney and wife Eleanor, and Joseph Egan Kenney and wife Terry, all of Frostburg, and Raymond P. Kenney and wife Judy, Billings, Mont.; one sister, Rita Kenney, Frostburg; and four grandchildren, J. Patrick Kenney IV, Denver, Colo., Nicole Kenney, Honolulu, Hawaii, Lena Marie Montoya and Miguel Montoya, both of Richmond, Va.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Christian Wake service will be held Thursday at 9 p.m. with the Knights of Columbus participating.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Patrick's Catholic Church on Friday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Thomas R. Bevan as celebrant. Interment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Dennis Perrin, Kim Leonard, Clancy Sanner, Regis Larkin, Richard Dailey and Dr. Wayne Spiggle.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
JEAN FULTON
CUMBERLAND - Jean (Hood) Fulton, 61, of Cumberland, died Saturday, Dec. 5, 1998, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born Dec. 12, 1936, in Sewickley, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Samuel S. and Emma (Beck) Hood.
Mrs. Fulton graduated from Carnegie Mellon with a B.S. degree in secretarial science, and she belonged to Delta Gamma Sorority.
She had been a clerk at Ruhl's Studio.
Mrs. Fulton was a member of the First Presbyterian Church.
She was the beloved wife of Ted Fulton; cherished Mom of Timothy Edward Fulton and wife, Stacey, Honolulu, Hawaii, Susan (Fulton) Nelis and husband, Arthur, North Huntingdon, Pa., Linda (Fulton) Blair and husband, Wray, LaVale, and Wendy (Fulton) Hinkle and husband, Greg, Colorado Springs, Colo.; grandmother of Brittany and Shane Nelis, Lauren and Lindsay Fulton, and Timothy and Daniel Blair; sister of Marilyn Bohn and husband, Fred, Erie, Pa.; several nieces and nephews; and a special cousin, Linda Niemczyk and husband, Rich.
Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home, P.A., 202 Greene St., Cumberland, on Monday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.
The funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday at 11 a.m. with Dr. O. Morton Harris Jr. officiating.
Interment will be in Restlawn Memorial Gardens.
JESSIE C. HORN
CUMBERLAND - Jessie Hewett Horn, 83, of Charlotte, N.C., formerly of Cumberland, died Monday, Aug. 24, 1998, at Mercy Hospital South.
Mrs. Horn was the former Jessie Cecilia Hewett, born April 21, 1915, in Cumberland, the daughter of the late Jacob Calvin Hewett and Cecilia Wigfield Hewett.
She was a Charlotte resident from 1954 to 1961 and from 1976 to the present.
Mrs. Horn was the devoted wife of C. Fletcher Horn; mother of James F. Horn, M.D., Albany, N.Y., and Judith Horn Rummo, Ph.D., of Chappaqua, N.Y. She is survived by one sister, Vera H. Rayburn, Cumberland; and four grandchildren, Sarah A. Horn, Charles F. Horn, Carla A. Rummo and Emily F. Rummo.
The funeral service will be held at the Upchurch Funeral Home, P.A., corner of Greene and Smallwood streets, Cumberland, on Friday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Dallas Forren officiating.
Interment will be in Hillcrest Burial Park.
