CHARLES D. LEAR
CUMBERLAND - Charles D. Lear, 65, of Industrial Boulevard, died Thursday, Oct. 1, 1998, at home.
He was born July 4, 1933, at Romney, W.Va., the son of the late Floyd Lee Lear and Mildred Pauline (Cooper) Lear. He was preceded in death by a brother, John David Lear.
Mr. Lear was retired from the U.S. Navy having served during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Romney V.F.W. Post #1101.
Surviving are Regina Crawford; two step sons, Robert Crawford and Daniel Miller, both at home; a brother, Thomas Lee Lear and wife, Betty, Cumberland; best friends Debbie Hochard, Cumberland, Jonathan, Christopher, Melissa and Jordan Hochard. Also surviving are a sister-in-law, Alma Lear, Romney; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., on Friday from 7 to 9 p.m., Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Wayne R. Turner officiating.
Interment will be in the Old Bethel Church cemetery, Romney.
Military honors will be accorded at graveside by the Romney Combined Honor Guard.
Pallbearers will be Robert Crawford, Mike Moore, Harold Miller, Dustin Barbe, Jonathan Hochard and Daniel Miller.
GLADYS P. GUNTER
LAS VEGAS, Nev.- Gladys P. Gunter, 79, of Pahrump, died Nov. 25, 1998, at Odyssey Health Care Inc., Las Vegas.
Mrs. Gunter was a native of Frostburg, Md., and was the daughter of the late Thomas and Nellie Gunter.
She was educated in Cleveland, Ohio, as a beautician and operated a shop in Grantsville, Md., and eventually in LaVale, Md., where she moved in the early '60s. She also worked as a teacher's aide for 15 years in the Allegany County Public Schools until her retirement. She then moved to Pahrump, where she resided for five years.
She is survived by a son, Ronald Tewell, of Pahrump; and a daughter-in-law, Sue Tewell, also of Pahrump. Also surviving are two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
According to Mrs. Gunter's written instructions, her body was cremated and the remains were to be interred in private. Funeral services for the cremains will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 23, at 10 a.m. in Frostburg Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations may be made to Odyssey Hospice of Las Vegas or to some other charity of choice.
ALICE I. HOPKINS
CUMBERLAND - Alice Irene Hopkins, 89, formerly of 802 Bedford St., Cumberland, passed away on Saturday, Dec. 26, 1998, at Frostburg Village Nursing Home.
Born in Rawlings on May 24, 1909, she was the daughter of the late John Dennison and the late Chattie (Miller) Dennison. She also was preceeded in death by her husband, Eugene J. "Jake" Hopkins; a daughter, Suzan Franz; four sisters, Lula Llewellyn, Helen E. Thom, Marion C. Dennison, Ruth Rohman; five brothers, John Welch Dennison, George Dennison, Joseph Dennison, William Dennison and Robert Dennison.
Prior to her marriage she was a clerk at Clayton's Pharmacy. She was a member of Centre Street United Methodist Church and a member of McKinley Chapter #12 Order of the Eastern Star.
She is survived by several nieces and nephews, some of them are Robert Thom, Marion Ruehl, Francis Rohman, Ruth Ann Dorsey, Eugene Llewellyn, John Dennison and Paul Dennison.
Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Wednesday at 11 a.m. by the Rev. Lloyd McCanna.
Interment will be in Hillcrest Burial Park.
ELEANOR M. HOPKINS
BORDEN MINES - Eleanor M. Hopkins, 84, of 18147 Mount Savage Road, NW, Borden Mines, Frostburg, died Sunday, April 5, 1998, at her residence.
Born April 7, 1913, in Midlothian, she was the daughter of the late James H. and Sarah Ann (Filer) Gordon. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Richard J. Hopkins, in 1966.
Mrs. Hopkins was a member of the Allegany United Methodist Church and Ladies Aid Society of the Church, Zihlman. She also was a member and past officer of the Calanthe Temple 3 Pythian Sisters, Frostburg Aerie 1273 FOE Auxiliary, and Farrady Unit 24 American Legion Auxiliary.
Surviving are one son, J. Earl Hopkins, Frostburg; a sister-in-law, Maryland Miller and husband Lester, Elk Garden; three grandsons, John Richard Hopkins and wife Bonnie, Hagerstown, James Earl Hopkins and wife Cindy, and Joseph Dean Hopkins and wife Debbie, all of Frostburg; one great-granddaughter, Kristin Nicole Hopkins, Frostburg; one great-grandson, Andrew Joseph Hopkins, Frostburg; two step-granddaughters, Katrina Clark and Amber Clark, Frostburg; two special, adopted great-grandsons, John Robert Fazenbaker and Justin Lee Fazenbaker, Frostburg; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Durst Funeral Home, 57 Frost Ave., Frostburg, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Memorial services will be conducted at the funeral home on Tuesday by the Frostburg Eagles Auxiliary at 7 p.m., the Pythian Sisters at 7:30 p.m., and the American Legion Auxiliary at 8 p.m.

WANDA E. KIFER
CRESAPTOWN - Wanda E. Kifer, 67, of Cresaptown, died Monday, Sept. 28, 1998, at the Cumberland Nursing Home, Cumberland.
Born March 5, 1931, in Points, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Montery and Eva (Grabil) Puffinburger. She also was preceded in death by five brothers; two sisters; and one grandson, Jeffrey Wood.
Mrs. Kifer was a homemaker, a member of Cresaptown United Methodist Church, and a member of the Hercules Bowling League.
Surviving are her husband, John "Jack" Kifer; one son, John "Greg" Kifer, LaVale; two daughters, Sandra L. Wood, Carpendale, W.Va., Cynthia "Cindy" Robison, Cresaptown; two sisters, Mildred Turley, LaVale, Katherine Peet, Wellsville, N.Y.; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and special friends, JoAnn Lynch, Mary Brant and Margaret Mellott.

LAVALE - Terry A. Horn, 48, Georges Creek Boulevard, LaVale, died suddenly Monday, Feb. 2, 1998, in Sacred Heart Hospital.
Friends will be received at the Hafer Chapel of the Hills Mortuary, 1302 National Highway, LaVale, on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted on Thursday, Feb. 5, 1998, at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Bernadette Ross officiating.
Interment will follow in Rest Lawn Memorial Gardens, LaVale.

ANN M. KIMMELL
CUMBERLAND - Ann M. Kimmell, 56, of Cumberland, died Monday, Aug. 10, 1998, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born Feb. 1, 1942, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late William and Georgia (Glaze) Burdock.
Mrs. Kimmell was a graduate of Fort Hill High School and was employed by Beiderlack of America.
Surviving are her husband, Gary L. Kimmell; two sons, Ivan "Ron" Swauger and James Swauger, both of Cumberland; two grandchildren, Ronnie and Amanda Swauger; and her father- and mother-in-law, Claude and Betty Kimmell, LaVale.
At Mrs. Kimmell's request, her body will be cremated. The Hafer Chapel of the Hills Mortuary, 1302 National Highway, LaVale, is in charge of arrangements.
