CHARLES B. LILLER
FORT MYERS, Fla. - Charles Burtis Liller, 72, of Fort Myers, formerly of Cumberland, Md., died Monday, Oct. 5, 1998.
He was born May 29, 1926, the son of the late Sarepta Liller and Carl Liller.

Charles was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church, Fort Myers, and a former member of Christ Lutheran Church, LaVale, Md.

Charles was a Past Master of Fort Cumberland Lodge 211 A.F. & A.M. He was a member of the Scottish Rite and the York Rite. He was also a member of the Ali Ghan Shrine Club and a member of the Motor Corps.

Charles served in World War II in the Army Air Force serving in Okinawa in the Philippines.

He designed and created the stained glass windows for Christ Lutheran Church.

Charles was an avid fisherman and enjoyed many different hobbies throughout his life.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Elisabeth A. Liller; and a sister, Mrs. William L. Shaffer, Bowling Green, Md.; two sons, Phillip A. Liller, Fort Ashby, W.Va., and Stephen B. Liller, Lantana; three grandsons, Stephen E. Liller, Joshua Liller and Zackery Liller; one granddaughter, Meghan M. Liller.

A memorial service will be held at Christ Lutheran Church, LaVale, on Sunday, Oct. 18, at 3 p.m. All friends are welcome to attend the celebration of Charles' life.

A private interment service will follow a period of fellowship after the memorial service.

The family request in lieu of flowers that donations be made in Charles' memory to Hope Hospice, 9470 Health Park Circle, Fort Myers, FL 33908.

HARRY L. LINDEMAN
CUMBERLAND - Harry Lee Lindeman, 83, of 11260 Wills Drive, Locust Grove, Cumberland, died Saturday, Nov. 7, 1998, at Allegany County Nursing Home.
Born Sept. 4, 1915, in Grantsville, he was the son of the late William Harrison Lindeman and the late Mary Jane (Patton) Lindeman.

Mr. Lindeman was a retired machinist for the B&O; Railroad. He was a member of the Machinist Union for 60 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

Surviving are a son, Nelson Lee Lindeman and wife Sharon, Cumberland; a daughter, Selma Ann Berry, Cumberland; four sisters, Nancy Chess, Connellsville, Pa., Martha Schoiltz, Connellsville, June Dyhum, Connellsville, and Velma Caliguire, Connellsville; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. with the Rev. Wayne R. Turner officiating.

Interment will be in the Maryland State Veterans cemetery at Rocky Gap.

Military honors will be accorded at graveside by the Combined Veterans Honor Guard.

SARA G. LINDSAY
LAVALE - Sara G. Lindsay, of Helman Drive, LaVale, died Monday, Jan. 19, 1998, at her residence. Born at St. James, she was the daughter of the late George Washington Gearhart and Helen Laura (Izer) Gearhart.
She was a retired Executive Director of the Cumberland Chapter of the American Red Cross, retiring on Dec. 1, 1975, with 19 years of service. During this time a new chapter house was built, and an annex was built at the present location at 400 Cumberland St. She continued to work for the chapter another 19 years as a volunteer, having more than 3,800 hours of service to the American Red Cross in Cumberland. She had a total of 35 years of service to this organization.

Mrs. Lindsay served two terms on the Board of Directors Cumberland Chapter of the American Red Cross and held the position of secretary and later as Chairperson. Committees on which she served included the finance, service to military, and blood committees. Mrs. Lindsay helped to organize the first high school bloodmobile visit in Allegany County, which started at Bishop Walsh High School and was sponsored by the Red Cross Youth Council, an organization that she established and on which she served as counselor and advisor. She also was a resource person for the Berkley Project, presenting the blood program to the elementary school children in the fifth and sixth grades, a position that she held for 10 years. While she was training officer for the chapter staff and volunteers she was appointed Volunteers Consultant-Generalist for the Pittsburgh Division covering 60 chapters in Maryland, Pennsylvania, Ohio and West Virginia. Her job was to assist chapters with administrative service problems where she had 2,100 volunteer hours of service.

She was a member of Centre Street United Methodist Church and was a member of the Esther Circle of the United Methodist Women of the church, having served as vice president and program chairperson. Through the years she served on many committees in the church and was very active in the Sunday School where she was a teacher, education chairperson and superintendent. She also was secretary of Children's Work for the Women's Society of Christian Service for the Baltimore Conference of the Cumberland-Hagerstown District. As a charter member, she assisted in organizing the first rescue squad in the Cumberland area, which is known as the LaVale Rescue Squad. In addition, she served as a first aid instructor at the Washington County Chapter of the American Red Cross. At this time she was employed at the W.H. Reisner Manufacturing Company in Hagerstown for 13 years and was the Assistant Treasurer. Also, she worked for the Erickson Tool Company, Cleveland, Ohio, for 11 years as the Confidential Secretary to the president and vice president of the company.

Mrs. Lindsay was a member of the Women's Civic Club of Cumberland where she served on many committees and was President from 1980 to 1982. She was past president of the Western District, Maryland Federation of Women's Clubs from 1986 to 1988 and served on many committees in this organization.

A charter member of Re Temple #118 Daughters of the Nile, she served as the first recorder and later as historian and was Queen in 1963. She also was a Supreme Officer from 1970 to 1972 and assisted the Supreme Recorder during the supreme sessions. Mrs. Lindsay served two terms as President of the White Rose Circle (Past Presidents-Queens of Re Temple #118); she was a former member of Lakewood Chapter #509 Order of the Eastern Star; and was a member of the Ann Rutledge Chapter #453 Order of the Eastern Star, Lakewood, Ohio.

She was a charter member of the Appalachian Health Planning Council, a member of the Health Education Advisory Committee of the Health Planning Council of Appalachia, Maryland Inc.; and a charter member of the Social Agencies Group, Cumberland, having assisted with its organization. She served on the Board of Directors of the County United Way during several administrations and worked on campaigns for 17 years, having served as team captain for a number of years. She also served on a number of committees dealing with handicapped employment, commission on the aging, alcoholism, and beautification of greater Cumberland.

She was a member of GFWC LaVale Century Club, serving on various committees and assisting annually with the Christmas caravan and serving as a hostess at the Toll House, which is managed by the Century Club. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, a past president of Omicron Chapter, and was presently a member of Preceptor Rhoe Chapter. In October 1997 she was a recipient of the Soroptimist Women of Distinction Award.

Mrs. Lindsay was the last surviving member of her immediate family, and she is survived by her husband of 63 years, Ernest A. Lindsay; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at the Kight Funeral Home, 309-311 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Wednesday and Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be held at Centre Street United Methodist Church, 217 North Centre St., Cumberland, on Friday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Lloyd B. McCanna, the Rev. Adam E. Grim, and the Rev. Bernadette M. Ross officiating. Interment will be at Rocky Gap Veterans cemetery. Friends may call at the church after 10 a.m.

Re Temple #118 Daughters of the Nile will hold memorial services at the funeral home on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.

Pallbearers will be from the United Methodist Men's Club of Centre Street United Methodist Church.

The family has requested that contributions take the form of donations to Ali Ghan Shrine Temple Transportation Fund, P.O. Box 1416, Cumberland, MD 21502; or to the Centre Street United Methodist Church.

THOMAS M. LINDSAY
BALTIMORE - Thomas Monroe Lindsay, 52, of Baltimore, formerly of Ridgeley, W.Va., died March 12, 1998, at Johns Hopkins University Bayview Medical Center.
Born April 17, 1945, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Clark Monroe and Pearl Edna (Taylor) Lindsay.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam era.

Mr. Lindsay had been employed as a direct care technician at the Crownsville State Hospital.

He was a member of Fort Cumberland Post #13, American Legion.

Survivors include his wife, Kathy (Halstead) Lindsay; two step-daughters, Laura Deem, Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., and Lydia Waller, Orlando, Fla.; one brother, Mike Lindsay, Wiley Ford, W.Va.; two sisters, Linda Bishop, Cumberland, and Sharon George, Ridgeley, W.Va.; several nieces and nephews; and two grandchildren, Josh and Jess Deem.

Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home, P.A., corner of Greene and Smallwood Streets, Cumberland, on Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m.

The funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Wednesday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. J.W. Lancaster officiating.

Interment will be in Zion Memorial Park.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Ridgeley Volunteer Fire Department, Ridgeley, WV 26753.

EVELYN LINKSWILER
WESTERNPORT - Evelyn Linkswiler, 79, of Moran Manor Nursing Home, formerly of 122 Johnson St., Westernport, died Monday, March 2, 1998, at Memorial Hospital, Cumberland.
She was born Dec. 5, 1918, in Piedmont, W.Va., the daughter of the late William A. Barricks and Delphia Victoria Barricks. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Henry Linkswiler, in 1973; a son, Edward Allen Barricks in 1954; and three brothers, William "Pud" Barricks, Edgar T. "Toad" Barricks and Rocks Pennington.

Mrs. Linkswiler was a member of the Westernport United Methodist Church, and she was a member of the church choir. She also was a member of the Miriam Rebekah Lodge.

Surviving are one daughter, Delores Henrietta Arnold, Burlington, W.Va.; one son, Edward Charles Linkswiler, Moundsville, W.Va.; two grandchildren, Robin Harris, Burlington, and Ronald Arnold Jr., Westernport; four great-grandchildren, Brandon Harris, Donald Harris Jr., Kirstin Arnold and Casey Arnold.

Friends will be received at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport, on Thursday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the Westernport United Methodist Church on Friday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. John Footen officiating. Mrs. Linkswiler will be taken to the church one hour prior to the services.

Interment will be in the Philos cemetery, Westernport.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Westernport United Methodist Church.
