JAMES A. LEMMERT
FROSTBURG - James A. Lemmert, 75, of Frostburg, died Wednesday, Jan. 7, 1998, at the Frostburg Village Nursing Home.
Born Oct. 7, 1922, in Frostburg, he was the son of the late George W. and Rose (Llewellyn) Lemmert. He also was preceded in death by his first wife, Lucille (Duncan) Lemmert; one brother, George D. Lemmert; and two sisters, Lib Shoemake and Thelma R. Capel.
Mr. Lemmert was retired from the Kelly Springfield Tire Co. He was a member of the Frostburg United Methodist Church; Mountain Lodge 99 AF & AM; and the American Legion Farrady Post 24. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Pacific Theater.
Surviving are his wife, Shirley (Doman) Lemmert; four sons, James W. Lemmert and wife Alexis, Glen Burnie, Bruce A. Lemmert and wife Inez, Lovettsville, Va., Douglas M. Lemmert and wife Kathryn, Frostburg, and Richard S. Lemmert and wife Terri, Columbia; one daughter, Diane Patterson and husband Dennis, Frostburg; 11 grandchildren, Cindy Baldwin, Jill and Amy Patterson, Ernie, Coy and Katie Lemmert, Tyler and Christopher Lemmert, Zack, Kaitlin and Brady Lemmert; and two brothers, G. Marshall Lemmert, Okeechobee, Fla., and Donald L. Lemmert, Clearwater, Fla.
Friends will be received at the Sowers Funeral Home, P.A., Frostburg, on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Mountain Lodge 99 AF & AM will hold a service on Thursday at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. George A. Aist officiating.
Interment will be in the Maryland State Veterans cemetery at Rocky Gap. Military rites will be accorded by American Legion Farrady Post 24.
Pallbearers will be Harold Arnold, Dennis Patterson, James Winfield, Robert Barry, Ernie Lemmert, and Chris Vinci.

HILDA C. LEWIS
CUMBERLAND - A Graveside Service was held on Monday, Aug. 10, 1998, at Hillcrest Memorial Park for Hilda C. Lewis of Baltimore, who died Aug. 5, 1998.
She was the daughter of Harry L. Chilcott and Minnie J. Chilcott.
She is survived by one daughter, Patricia Lewis, and a granddaughter, Alexandra Nader, both of New York City; and one sister, Elizabeth L. Chilcott, of Cumberland.
OLIVER GLADWYN LEWIS
FROSTBURG - Oliver Gladwyn Lewis, 86, of 116 Ormand St., Frostburg, died Sunday, Jan. 18, 1998, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland.
Born April 18, 1911, in Frostburg, he was the son of the late James B. and Martha (Cook) Lewis. He also was preceded in death by his first wife, Dove (Tallman) Lewis, in 1988.
Mr. Lewis was retired from the Celanese Fibers Corp. in the filtration department. He was a member of the Frostburg United Methodist Church; Haystack Mountain Sportsman's Club; Casselman Valley Sportsman's Club; and the Boy Scouts of America Troop 42. He also was a charter member and organizer of the Frostburg Area Ambulance Association, and a charter member of the Mountain City CB and Radio Club.
Surviving are his second wife, Margaret (Culp) Lewis; two sons, Wayne L. Lewis, Bowie, and Lynn A. Lewis and wife Linda, Frostburg; one daughter, Carol Ritter and husband Carl, Spring Hill, Fla.; one stepson, George Wilhelm and wife Carlee, Short Gap, W.Va.; two brothers, James Hayden Lewis, Norwalk, Conn., and Walter Glenn Lewis, Damascus; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Durst Funeral Home, 57 Frost Ave., Frostburg, on Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m., and on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Thursday, Jan. 22, 1998, at 1 p.m. with the Rev. George A. Aist officiating.
Interment will be in the Frostburg Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Louis Femi, Jack Parker, Karl Hartig, Tom Hetz, Arch Baker and Ken Lease.
The family requests that memorials be directed to the Frostburg Area Ambulance Service.
OWEN LEWIS JR.
WESTERNPORT - Owen Lewis Jr., 65, of 210 Ross St., Westernport, died Sunday, Jan. 25, 1998, at Winchester Medical Center, Winchester, Va.
Born Oct. 7, 1932, in Frostburg, he was the son of Eva Lewis, Frostburg, and the late Owen Lewis Sr.
Mr. Lewis was an active member of the Westernport Church of the Brethren. He was a Korean War veteran. He served with the 101st Green Beret, Kingwood, W.Va., and was a retired Master Sergeant of the West Virginia Air National Guard, Martinsburg, W.Va. He was a member of Victory Post 155 American Legion, Westernport, and Queens Point 6775 VFW, McCoole. He was retired from Westvaco Corp. with 42 years of service, having worked in the Power Center.
Owen also loved to spend time camping with his grandchildren.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife of 46 years, Phyllis (Ritchie) Lewis; four sons, Steve Lewis and wife Ellen, of Cumberland, David Lewis and wife Carrie, of Westernport, Tim Lewis and wife Nancy, of Bowie, and Keith Lewis and Donna Hartman, of Westernport; three sisters, Janie Stafford, Lonaconing, Donna Summers-Preston, Frederick, and Ruth Ann Neilson, Frostburg; two brothers, Marvin Lewis, Buffalo, N.Y., and Dale Lewis, Lonaconing; nine grandchildren, Shelby Whetstone, Ashley Lewis, Amy Lewis, Wade Lewis, Shaun Lewis, Mallory Lewis, Amanda Lewis, Jaime Lewis, Trevor Lewis, Tyler Lewis and Taryn Lewis; three step-grandchildren, Brooke Boyce, Nikki Boyce and Patric Boyce; and three great-grandchildren, Erika Whetstone, Brandon Whetstone and Matthew Whetstone.
Friends will be received at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Queens Point VFW will hold a memorial service at the funeral home Tuesday at 7 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the Westernport Church of the Brethren on Wednesday, Jan. 28, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Ervin Huston and the Rev. William Shimer officiating.
Interment will be in the Maryland State Veterans cemetery at Rocky Gap, where full military honors will be accorded by the combined veterans organizations.
Pallbearers will be Randy Stafford, Johnny DiUbaldo, and grandsons Wade Lewis, Trevor Lewis, Shaun Lewis and Tyler Lewis. Honorary pallbearers will be Tom Morris, Jim Hartman, Gene Mayhew, and members of the Korean War Veterans Association.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Westernport Church of the Brethren, or the Tri-Towns Rescue Squad.
DR. THOMAS F. "TIM" LEWIS
LEWES, Del. - Dr. Thomas F. "Tim" Lewis, 77, of Lewes, formerly of Buckingham Road, Cumberland, Md., died Wednesday, Sept. 23, 1998, at Beebe Hospital, Lewes.
Born Jan. 7, 1921, in Frostburg, he was the son of the late Thomas F. and Osse May (Mays) Lewis. He also was preceded in death by one sister, Virginia (Lewis) Graham.
Dr. Lewis was a retired surgeon at Memorial and Sacred Heart hospitals, where he was staff physician from 1955 to 1995, and former Chief of Surgery at both hospitals. He began his practice in Cumberland with Dr. Wilie Faw. He was the founding partner of Doctors Lewis, Snider, Schroeder and Rock, Surgical Associates. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Cumberland; a Fellow of American College of Surgeons; member of the American Medical Association and the Maryland Medical Association; former president and member of the Allegany County Medical Society; member of the Executive Board of the Maryland Board of Physicians; and former member of the Board of Directors of the Cumberland YMCA. He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II.
Surviving are his wife, Eugenia M. Lewis; six sons, Thomas F. Lewis III and wife Kim, St. Petersburg, Fla., Robert K. Lewis and wife Suzanne, Japan, Christopher W. Lewis, Baltimore, John K. Lewis and wife Janice, Denver, Colo., Michael D. Lewis and wife Robin, Silver Spring, Md., and James G. Lewis, Arlington, Va.; one daughter, Laura (Lewis) MacDonald and husband Richard, Winchester, Va.; one brother-in-law, James Graham, Ellicott City, Md.; and nine grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, Friday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at St. Paul's Lutheran Church Saturday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. John J. Duffus officiating.
Friends also will be received one hour prior to the service at the church.
Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park, Cumberland.

THOMAS R. LEWIS
OAKLAND - Thomas R. Lewis, 67, of North Fourth Street, Oakland, died Monday, June 15, 1998, at the Garrett County Memorial Hospital, Oakland.
Born June 25, 1930, in Washington, D.C., he was the son of the late Henry C. "Preach" Lewis Sr. and Hester M.V. (Ward) Lewis. He also was preceded in death by one brother, Archie D. Lewis.
He was a retired computer printer for the McDonald & Eddy Printing Company Inc. for 15 years. Prior to this employment he worked at the McGregor & Werner Printing and Publishing Company Inc. for 25 years as a typesetter and instructor. In August 1993 he sold his home in Fort Washington and returned to Oakland in September 1993.
He was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Oakland, and was a Navy veteran of the Korean War.
He is survived by one daughter, Merri D. Brami, Springfield, Va.; two step-daughters, Terry Jo McClay, Waldorf, and Sherri M. Hughes, Lusby; four sisters, Elizabeth Ann Friend, Helen V. Lewis, Mary Jo Savage, and husband, Jim, and Kathryn L. Savage, and husband, Pete, all of Oakland; and six brothers, Henry Clay Lewis Jr., and wife, Mary, Friendsville, Francis J. "Frank" Lewis, and wife, LaRue, Andrew A. "Andy" Lewis, and wife, Shirley, David W. Lewis, and wife, Leanna, Steven W. Lewis, and wife, Diana, Paul D. Lewis, and wife, Liz, all of Oakland; and four step-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Stewart Funeral Home, Oakland, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday. Services will be held at St. Paul's United Methodist Church on Thursday, June 18, 1998, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Roger Harrison and the Rev. Donald Matthews officiating.
Interment will be in the Lewis Family cemetery.
