MAJOR E. EDWARD MILLER, JR.
NORTH CAROLINA - Maj. E. Edward Miller Jr., 43, of Pope Air Force Base, North Carolina, formerly of LaVale, Md., died Tuesday, Aug. 11, 1998, at the Chesapeake General Hospital in Chesapeake, Va., following a drowning accident in Nags Head.
Born Feb. 11, 1955, in Hagerstown, Md., he was the son of Alta Mae (Hixon) Miller, LaVale, and the late Ernest Edward Miller Sr.

Maj. Miller was a 1973 graduate of Allegany High School, and he received his bachelor of science degree in Civil Engineering from West Virginia University. He was commissioned an Officer in the United States Air Force in April 1983. Presently, he was the Acting Commander of the Civil Engineering Squadron at Pope Air Force Base in North Carolina. He has served at the Kunsan Air Base in South Korea and the Brooks Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. He was awarded his master of science degree in Environmental Engineering at the University of Colorado through the Air Force Institute of Technology. He has also served at the Pentagon in Virginia, Randolph Air Force Base in San Antonio, and Shephard Air Force Base in Wichita Falls, Texas.

In addition to his mother, Maj. Miller is survived by his wife, Robin (Humbertson) Miller; three children, Sarah, Scott and Jacqueline "Jackie;" one brother, Larry Miller, Hagerstown; and his wife's parents, Earl and Helen Humbertson, Cumberland.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., on Thursday from 6 to 9 p.m.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Cumberland, with Msgr. James V. Hobbs as celebrant.

Interment will be in Restlawn Memorial Gardens, LaVale.

Graveside military honors will be accorded by the Bolling Air Force Base Honor Guard.

Pallbearers will be Brad Miller, Craig Miller, Mark Humbertson, Brian Humbertson, Greg Gerhard and Vincent Miller.

EMMA C. MILLER
WESTERNPORT - Emma Cletus Miller, 101, formerly of Stoney Run Road, Westernport, died July 24, 1998, at Heartland of Keyser Nursing Home, where she had been a resident since April 24, 1984.
Born Feb. 8, 1897, on the farm of her grandfather, John Salem Ross, on Dan's Mountain, she was the youngest of 10 children of Mandana Melvina (Miller) and Lacy William "Dick" Ross. Her father was born in 1857, before Lincoln was President, and lived to be 101 years of age.

On Oct. 18, 1911, she married Steven Samuel Miller.

Cletus was born and raised on a farm on Dan's Mountain, but in 1929 she moved with her husband and children to Westernport, when Freeda, the only girl and baby of the family, was 5 years old.

She was a member of Stoney Run Baptist Church and attended a one-room church in that particular spot by horse and buggy with her husband and children prior to her move from the mountain.

In addition to her parents and her husband, Mrs. Miller was preceded in death by her brothers and sisters, Samuel, who died at birth, John, Mary Etta, Clara Victoria, Lora Mae, Charles Steven, David Allen, Alfred Simeon, and Ann Estella. She also was preceded in death by two sons, Percy and Jesse; and one daughter, Freeda Lambert.

She is survived by one son, Allen Miller, and wife, Evelyn, Westernport; nine grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport, on Saturday, July 25, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. The funeral service will be conducted at the Stoney Run Baptist Church on Sunday, July 26, at 2 p.m. by the Rev. Gary Morris.

Interment will be in the Miller cemetery.

JAMES W. MILLER SR.
KLONDIKE - James W. Miller Sr., 69, of 20503 Klondike Road, SW, Klondike, died Thursday, Jan. 1, 1998, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland.
Born Jan. 28, 1928, in Frostburg, he was the son of the late James W. and Ada (Winners) Miller. He also was preceded in death by two daughters, Maria Lynn Miller and Sally Robinette; and one grandson, William Robinette Jr.

Mr. Miller was retired from the Frostburg State University maintenance department.

Surviving are his wife of 48 years, Norma Jean (Yantz) Miller; six daughters, Loreen Harn, Hagerstown, Linda Imes, Frostburg, Patricia Miller, Cumberland, Bonnie Skidmore, Cumberland, Tonya Custer, Frostburg, and Kimberly Blubaugh, Lonaconing; six sons, James W. Miller Jr., Westpoint, Va., Mark Miller, Cumberland, William Miller, Cumberland, Charles Miller, Frostburg, Roger Miller, Cumberland, and Dale Miller, Frostburg; one sister, Lib Buckingham, Hagerstown; 19 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and one niece.

Friends will be received at the Durst Funeral Home, Frostburg, on Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Sunday at 3 p.m. with the Rev. John Koontz officiating.

Interment will be in the Frostbrug Memorial Park.

Mr. Miller's sons will serve as pallbearers. Danny Reed will be an honorary pallbearer.

JUANITA E. MILLER
CUMBERLAND - Juanita Eleanor (Sharon) Miller, 88, of the Devlin Manor Nursing Home, formerly of Cumberland Manor Apartments, died Thursday, May 21, 1998, at the nursing home.
Born Dec. 29, 1909, in Flintstone, she was the daughter of the late Charles H. Sharon and Emma Grace (Rockwell) Sharon Alabaugh. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Chester M. Miller Sr., on June 5, 1971; three brothers, Lester, Francis and Edgar R. Sharon; one son, Donald S. Miller; three daughters, Doris J. Berg, E. Virginia Bennett and Wanda Lee Nave; and two stepsons, Orville and Robert Miller.

Mrs. Miller was a former employee of the Celanese Corp. and the Maryland Glass Factory. She was a member of Grace Brethren Church.

Surviving are three sons, Chester M. Miller Jr. and wife Nancy, Grantsville, Roy R. Miller and wife Brenda, and Ray O. Miller and wife Linda, all of Cumberland; three daughters, Romaine P. Sherman, Cumberland, G. Kay Williamson and husband Wallace, Myrtle Beach, S.C., and Joyce A. Nixon and husband Earl, Cumberland; one stepson, Dale Miller, Texarkana, Ark.; two stepdaughters, Jean Rice and Eleanor Barnard, both of Cumberland; three sisters, her twin Ethel M. Sharon, Eloise Herring and S. Thelma Foreman; five stepbrothers, John Sharon and James Sharon, both of Hagerstown, William Sharon, Berkeley Springs, W.Va., Lewis Sharon, Greencastle, Pa., and Charles Sharon Jr., Williamsport, Pa.; one stepsister, Gladys Obitts, Williamsport; 27 grandchildren; 63 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home Saturday at 1 p.m. with Pastor Ray McCoy and Pastor Paul Dietz officiating.

Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park, Cumberland.

Pallbearers will be grandsons Chester Martin Miller III, Robert Stewart, Dennis Stewart, Leroy Bennett Jr., David Nave, Michael Miller and Earl Nixon Jr.

KATHLEEN E. MILLER
BLOOMINGTON - Kathleen Elizabeth Miller, 81, of 311 N. Branch Ave., Bloomington, died Sunday, Dec. 27, 1998, at Memorial Hospital, Cumberland.
Born Jan. 7, 1917, at Bloomington, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Ida (Bush) Rizer. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Oliver George "Coot" Miller, in 1983; a sister, Edna A. Garrett; a brother, Palmer "Saul" Rizer; a half-sister, Margaret Davis Grove. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Mrs. Miller was retired as a cutter at Westvaco's Luke Mill with 43 years of service. She was a member of Bethlehem Chapter #14 Order of the Eastern Star, and a member of the Westvaco Retirees.

She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews, including a special niece, Ruth Streets and husband, Richard; and two special nephews, Robert Rizer and wife, Fannie, and Clifton "Lindy" Rizer and wife, Ella Jean.

Friends will be received at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport, on Monday, Dec. 28, from 7 to 9 p.m., and on Tuesday, Dec. 29, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Funeral services will be conducted there on Wednesday, Dec. 30, at 1 p.m. by the Rev. Donald Nelson.

Interment will be in Potomac Memorial Gardens, Keyser, W.Va.

LEO A. MILLER
CUMBERLAND - Leo Andy Miller, 77, of 14111 Bedford Road, NE, Cumberland, died Wednesday, June 24, 1998, at Georgetown University Hospital, Washington, D.C.
Born June 17, 1921, in Centerville, Pa., he was the son of the late Andy Miller and the late Daisy (Elliott) Miller. He also was preceded in death by a brother, Estel Miller; and a sister, Mary Henderson.

Mr. Miller was a retired employee of the Kelly Springfield Tire Co., shipping department. He was a member of Moose Lodge 271. A U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, he served 14 months with the 455th Bomb Squad as a tail gunner in England. He completed 64 missions over enemy territory. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal. He received the Purple Heart for injuries he received in action over Holland.

Surviving are his wife, Zelma (Bridges) Miller; six sons, Steve Miller and wife Janet, Augusta, Ga., Larry Miller, Lincolnton, Ga., Ben Miller and wife Jane, Bowie, Fred Miller and wife Dee, Ellerslie, Ron Miller and wife Linda and Royce Miller, all of Cumberland; two sisters, Peggy Hagenbuch and husband Fred, Wiley Ford, W.Va., and Kathleen Lusignola and husband Tony, Ohio; one brother, Harold Miller and wife Wanda, Lake Gordon Road, Route 3, Bedford, Pa.; 16 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Saturday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Vance Pastorius, OFM, Cap., officiating.

Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park. Full military rites will be accorded at the graveside by local veterans organizations.
