WILLIAM J. MCCABE
CUMBERLAND - William J. "Pat" McCabe, 80, formerly of New Hampshire Avenue, Cumberland, died Saturday, March 7, 1998, at the Allegany Nursing Home.
Born Nov. 25, 1917, in Little Orleans, he was the son of the late Michael Edward McCabe Sr. and Effie S. (Hartman) McCabe. He also was preceded in death by his first wife, Juanita (Brinkman) McCabe; and his second wife, Wilda Laverne (Kirtley) McCabe, in 1989.

Mr. McCabe was retired from the Roadway Trucking Co., Cumberland. He served in the U.S. Army, was a veteran of World War II, and was a three-time recipient of the Purple Heart. He was a member of the Winifred Road Church of Christ, Cumberland Eagles, Cumberland Moose, and the Local Teamsters Union.

Surviving are three sisters, Arveda M. Piper, Oldtown, Effie S. Slider, Annapolis, and Viola Jessen and husband Eldon, Denver, Colo.; three brothers, Raymond J. McCabe and wife Reta, Hagerstown, Roy J. McCabe and wife Nola, Keyser, W.Va., and George M. McCabe and wife Angela, Taberg, N.Y.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Wednesday at 11 a.m. with Pastor John Herbst and Dr. Merle Correll officiating.

Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.

STEPHEN R. MCCANNS
BALTIMORE - Stephen Ray McCanns, 49, of Baltimore, died Tuesday, Nov. 24, 1998, at his home.
Born Sept. 1, 1949, in Winchester, Va., he was the son of Elaine (Calvert) McCanns, Cumberland, and the late Harry G. McCanns.

Mr. McCanns worked for the Water Department in Baltimore City. He was Protestant by faith.

In addition to his mother, surviving are one sister, Eileen Searless and husband, Jim, Camp Springs; two brothers, James McCanns, Danville, Ind., and Marcus McCanns and wife, Mary, Dover, Del.; and several cousins and nephews.

Friends will be received at Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, on Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Monday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Richard H. Jewell officiating.

Interment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park, Cumberland.

LORENA "RENIE" MCCARTY
WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - Lorena "Renie" McCarty, 71, of Williamsburg, formerly of Cumberland, Md., died Saturday, May 16, 1998, in Williamsburg.
Born on June 6, 1926, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late James Burns and Christine Kammauf Barton Burns. She also is preceded in death by her husband, John Albert McCarty.

She retired as a bartender from Fort Cumberland Post #13 American Legion, and was a member of the Post #13 Ladies Auxiliary.

She is survived by one son, Larry Burns, and wife, Pattie, Williamsburg; one daughter, Mary Louise Miller, and husband, Ronnie, Williamsburg; two grandsons, Justin Burns and Jeremy Miller, Williamsburg.

Friends will be received on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Leasure-Stein Funeral Home, 230 Baltimore Ave., Cumberland.

Mass of the Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday at 9 a.m. at St. Patrick's Church with the Rev. Thomas R. Bevan as celebrant.

Interment will be in Restlawn Memorial Gardens in LaVale, Md.

Serving as pallbearers will be Mrs. McCarty's grandsons, Justin Burns and Jeremy Miller, Bernard J. Barbe, William F. Andrews, John P. Shipley and Curtis L. Steele.

A Christian Wake will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday evening at 8 p.m.

EDWARD A. MCCONNELL
FROSTBURG - Edward A. McConnell, 85, of the Frostburg Village Nursing Home, formerly of the Kensington-Algonquin Apartments, Cumberland, died Saturday, March 7, 1998, at the nursing home.
Born June 27, 1912, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Anthony T. and Annie Ellen (Bahen) McConnell. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Pauline (Coughenour) McConnell.

Mr. McConnell was a retired supervisor for the Pepsi Cola Bottling Co., Cumberland. He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, member of American Legion Fort Cumberland Post 13, and a founding member of the Cumberland Outdoor Club. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

Surviving are one son, Thomas Edward McConnell and wife Charlene, Cumberland; one daughter, Mary Ann Lippert and husband Thomas, Murraysville, Pa.; six grandchildren, Kim J. Caroff, Falls Church, Va., Cindy A. Kirby, Beaufort, S.C., Marcy Aufderheide and husband Greg, Butler, Pa., Gregory T. Lippert, Pittsburgh, Mark E. McConnell, Baltimore, and Brian E. Lippert, Charlotte, N.C.; and five great-grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, on Monday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Christian Wake Service will be held at 8:30 p.m.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Patrick's Catholic Church on Tuesday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Thomas R. Bevan as celebrant.

Interment will be in the St. Mary's cemetery.

LENA B. McCORMICK
PAINESVILLE, Ohio - Lena B. McCormick, 77, of Painesville, died on Monday, Jan. 12, 1998, at University Hospitals of Cleveland.
She was born July 15, 1920, in Barnum, W.Va., and had lived in Maryland before moving to Painesville 32 years ago.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George Henry, on Oct. 5, 1988; and her granddaughter, Tanice Stalworth.

Mrs. McCormick was a former housekeeping employee at the Holiday Inn of Painesville.

Surviving are her sons, George W., Painesville; Kenneth E. and wife, Charlotte, of Andover; Paul E. and wife, Pam, of Leroy, and William W. and wife, Linda, Geneva; daughters, Naomi Gmitra and husband, Kol, Painesville; Sondra Lynn Lawrence, Painesville; Cathy I. Shank and husband, Frank, Concord Township, and Lena L. Morgan and husband, Chris, Ashtabula; 24 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; sisters, Eloise Tichnell, Swanton, Md., and Evelyn Frank, Painesville; and brothers, William Harvey, Hillsborough; Wayne Harvey, North Carolina.

The Johnson Funeral Home, Painesville, was in charge of funeral arrangements.

Mrs. McCormick will be buried with her husband, George, in Mentor, Ohio.

ORIS MCCORMICK
BARTON - Oris McCormick, 86, of 23705 Walnut St., Barton, died Tuesday, May 5, 1998, at the Egle Nursing Home, Lonaconing.
Born on April 25, 1912, at Barton, he was the son of the late Dennis and Emma (Richards) McCormick. He also was preceded in death by five brothers and one sister.

Mr. McCormick was Protestant by faith. He was a retired Allegany County Dog Warden, a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, a charter member of the Barton Hose Company #1, a member of the Victory Post #155 American Legion, Westernport, and a member of the Barton Senior Citizens.

He is survived by his wife, Marie (Metz) McCormick; one son, Mike McCormick, and wife, Gail, Barton; one daughter, Patty Haines, and husband, Dave, Lonaconing; one sister, Alice A. McCormick, Barton; three grandchildren, Michelle Green, and husband, Brian, Michael McCormick and Lauren Haines; two great-grandchildren, Evan Green and Carly McCormick.

Friends will be received at the Boal Memorial Chapel, Barton, on Wednesday, May 6, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted at the Chapel on Thursday, May 7, at 1 p.m. with the Rev. John Park officiating.

Interment will be in Laurel Hill cemetery, Moscow Mills.

The Barton Hose Company will hold a memorial service at the Chapel on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.

Serving as pallbearers will be Brian Green, Michael McCormick, Patrick Cowan, Larry Russell, Bob White, Shane Guthrie.

JESSE O. MCCOY
CUMBERLAND - Jesse Olin McCoy, 87, of Brice Hollow Road, Cumberland, went to be with the Lord, Thursday, Nov. 26, 1998, at Memorial Hospital.
Born Sept. 15, 1911, in Moyer, W.Va., he was the son of the late Rebecca Elizabeth McCoy.

Mr. McCoy was retired from the Celanese Corp., Cumberland. He was of the Mennonite faith, and he loved farming.

Surviving are his wife, Clara (Arbogast) McCoy; two daughters, Patsy Cosner and husband Gaynor, and Margaret Lough and husband Kenneth, all of Flintstone; one son, Johnie McCoy and wife Betty, Salida, Calif.; nine grandchildren, Johnie McCoy Jr., Cumberland, Clifton McCoy, Portland, Ore., Michael McCoy and wife Karen, Italy, Gaynor Cosner II, Abbey, Wash., Glynis Cosner Jackson and husband Warren, Flintstone, Darlene Fletcher and husband Lynn, Cumberland, Lisa Cessna and husband Neal, Pennsylvania, Debra Borland and husband Michael, Flintstone, and Kelly Case and husband Rob, Oldtown; special friend, Bonnie McCoy; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, Saturday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.

Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home Sunday at 1:30 p.m. with the Rev. Richard Ketterman officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park, Cumberland.

The family requests that contributions be made to the American Heart Association.

Pallbearers will be grandsons Clifton McCoy, Johnie McCoy Jr., Michael McCoy, Gaynor Cosner II, Jesse McCoy and Ryan Fletcher. Honorary pallbearers will be other grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
