GEORGIANNA METZ
CUMBERLAND - Georgianna (Flora) Metz, 74, of Montgomery Avenue, Cumberland, died Sunday, March 8, 1998, at Memorial Hospital.
Born April 16, 1923, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late George E. Flora and Edith (Ryan) Flora Brotemarkle. She also was preceded in death by one brother, Robert Neel Flora Sr.; and one nephew, Robert Neel Flora Jr.

Mrs. Metz retired from the Developmental Department of the Kelly-Springfield Tire Co. with 25 years of service. She was an honor student at Fort Hill High School, graduating in 1941. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, and a former member of Elliott Memorial Methodist Church. She was twice a past president of the Cumberland Cedarettes, Tall Cedars of Lebanon 140.

Surviving are her husband, Edward Metz; a sister-in-law, Margaret Flora, Cumberland; and several cousins.

Friends will be received at the Leasure-Stein Funeral Home, Cumberland, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Wednesday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Richard Jewell officiating.

Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park, Cumberland.

Serving as pallbearers will be members of the Class of 1941 of Fort Hill High School.

MARY A. MEYER
FROSTBURG - Mary A. (Sacco) Meyer, 81, of Frostburg, died Saturday, May 9, 1998, at her home.
Born Aug. 24, 1916, in Morantown, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Carmella (Buffer) Sacco. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Meyer; two brothers; and one sister.

Mrs. Meyer was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church and the Sodality.

Surviving are three sons, Richard Meyer, and wife, Joan, Germantown, Fred Meyer, and wife, Ginny, Alexandria, Va., John Meyer, and wife, Ping, Germantown; four grandchildren, Andy Meyer, Germantown, William Brady Jr., and wife, Laurie, Virginia, Shari Holohan, and husband, Tim, Virginia, and Robin Monahan, and husband, Michael, Virginia; nine great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Vienna Paletta, Frostburg, and Esther Carboni, Hyattsville.

Friends will be received at the Sowers Funeral Home, P.A., 60 W. Main St., Frostburg, on Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Michael's Church on Tuesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Paul A. Byrnes as celebrant.

Interment will be in Rest Lawn Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Joseph Paletta, Charles Himmler, Tony Himmler, Bill Brady, Ricky Monahan and Mike Kenney.

Memorial contributions may be given to Western Maryland Health System's Home Hospice.

JOHN C. MEYERS
LONACONING - John Chrysostom Meyers Sr., 80, of 37 East Main St., Lonaconing, died Friday, Feb. 20, 1998, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland.
He was born in Lonaconing on Aug. 29, 1917. He was preceded in death by his parents, George A. and Catherine (Douglas) Meyers, and his beloved wife, Elizabeth (Cameron) Meyers. He is survived by two sons, John C. Meyers Jr., and wife, Cathy, LaPlata, and James, at home ; and a grandson, Evan, of La Plata.

Other survivors include two sisters, Mary and Catherine Meyers, Lonaconing; and four brothers, George, Joseph and wife, Margaret, all of Baltimore, de Sales and wife, Margaret, Reisterstown, Dr. Michael C. and wife, Barbara, Westminster.

John was a graduate of Central High School, Lonaconing, and attended Frostburg State University three years until he was drafted in the Army in 1941. He served five years in the European Theater, where he was a member of the 967th Field Artillery Battalion.

He was awarded the Silver Star for bravery. Other medals he received are the Good Conduct Medal, the American Defense Service Medal, the American Theater Service Ribbon, the European-African-Middle-Eastern Service Ribbon and the World War II Victory Ribbon.

When he returned after the war, he attended the University of Maryland, where he graduated in 1947 and later obtained his master's degree. He immediately began his teaching and coaching career at Central High School and later at Valley High School. He taught for 36 years, retiring in 1983. He continued his interest in sports, and he was an avid gardener.

John was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Lonaconing, where he served as an usher. He belonged to the Holy Name Society. Other organizations in which he held membership were the Central High School Alumni Association, Senior Citizens, Alvin C. Neat Post No. 5280, Veterans of Foreign Wars, County, State and National Teachers Associations, and National Retired Teachers Association.

As basketball coach, he posted 517 victories against only 277 defeats. Valley became the first county team to go through the entire season unbeaten when the Black Knights went 27-0 in claiming their fourth state title under Meyers in 1979.

Friends will be received at the Eichhorn-McKenzie Funeral Home on Sunday and Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

A Christian Wake service will be conducted on Monday at 8 p.m. at the funeral home by Sr. Marietta Culhane, O.S.F., Pastorial Life Director, St. Mary's Catholic Church, Lonaconing.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Coach John C. Meyers Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o Greg Getty, Law Offices of Geppert-McMullen-Paye & Getty, 21 Prospect Square, Cumberland, MD 21502. The scholarship will be awarded to a student athlete at Westmar High School.

BEULAH A. MICHAEL
FROSTBURG - Beulah Alberta Michael, 87, of 16430 National Pike, Frostburg (Garrett County), died Tuesday, Jan. 27, 1998, at Meyersdale Medical Center, Meyersdale, Pa.
Born Oct. 6, 1910, at New Germany, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Ellen (Warne) Crowe. Mrs. Michael was a member of the Mount Zion United Methodist Church, the Grantsville Firemen's Auxiliary, and was a homemaker.

Survivors include one son, Harry Michael and friend, Darlene, Frostburg; one daughter, Ruth Miller and husband, Francis, Accident; four grandchildren, Sherry and Mike Remley, Roger Miller, Laura Miller, Vickie and Sudhir Joshua; and two great-grandchildren, Ben Joshua and Paige Remley.

Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Home, Grantsville, Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be conducted at the funeral home, Saturday, Jan. 31, 1998, at 10 a.m. with the Reverends William Shimer and Ross Glotfelty officiating.

Interment will be in the Mount Zion United Methodist cemetery.

Contributions may be directed to the Northern Garrett County Rescue Squad.

EMILY K. MICHAEL
WESTERNPORT - Emily K.Michael, 72, of 261 Wood St., Westernport, died Thursday, Aug. 27, 1998, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland.
Born Jan. 3, 1926, in Westernport, she was the daughter of the late John Cox and Mary (Metz) Cox.

Mrs. Michael was a homemaker and a charter member of the Christ Memorial Baptist Church, Westernport, where she also was a member of the Ruth Molden Sunday School class.

Surviving are her husband, Lee Michael; one son, Jeffrey Michael, Westernport; two daughters, Belinda Mullen and husband Bob, Frostburg, and Mary Ann Cummings and husband Raymond, Westernport; seven grandchildren, Shannon Mullen, Randy Kimble, Mathew Mullen, Jeremy Mullen, Jennifer Michael, Sarah Braithwaite and Lacey Michael; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport, on Friday, Aug. 28, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday, Aug. 29, at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Steffan Carr officiating.

Interment will be in the Philos cemetery, Westernport.

Pallbearers will be Shannon Mullen, Mathew Mullen, Jeremy Mullen, Tracey Kimble, Raymond Cummings and John Shingler.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Christ Memorial Baptist Church.

MARTHA A. NATALE
CUMBERLAND - Martha Angela Natale, 59, of Cumberland, died Monday, May 25, 1998, at Memorial Hospital.
Born Feb. 16, 1939, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late Irvin and Mary (Porter) Steinmetz. She also was preceded in death by one brother, George Wesley Steinmetz; and four sisters, Margaret Peer, Mary Edna Scharf, Ann Phillips and Regina Long.

Mrs. Natale was a homemaker and mother. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Cumberland.

Surviving are her husband, Carl A. Natale, Cumberland; one son, Jeffrey Alan Natale, at home; five sisters, her twin, F. Marie McMillan, Katherine Parry, Thelma Wharton, all of Cumberland, Gladys Ritchie, and husband, Curtis, Spring Gap, and Josephine Aldrige, Cumberland; three brothers, Irvin Steinmetz, and wife, Dorothy, Francis D. Steinmetz, and John V. Steinmetz, and wife, Ester, all of Cumberland; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Christian Wake will be conducted on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary's Catholic Church on Thursday at 10:15 a.m. with Fr. Thomas R. Bevan as celebrant.

Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park, Cumberland.

The family requests contributions be made to the immediate family of Martha Natale.
