MARY M. NAUGHTON
CUMBERLAND - Mary M. Naughton, 96, of Cumberland, died Monday, April 27, 1998, at Lions Manor Nursing Home.
Born May 6, 1901, in Somerville, Mass., she was the daughter of the late William and Margaret (Keane) McNally. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph M. Naughton Sr., former president of the Second National Bank from 1948 until his death in 1962; and one sister, Irene Smallcomb.

Mrs. Naughton was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and the church sodality. She was a former volunteer at Sacred Heart Hospital and the Allegany County Chapter of the American Red Cross.

Surviving are two sons, Joseph M. Naughton and wife, Mary Lou, Winston-Salem, N.C., William D. Naughton Sr. and wife, Judith, Bethany Beach, Del.; one daughter, Marie L. Johnson and husband, William, Manhasset, N.Y.; nine granchildren, Barbara Ann Naughton, Catherine L. Halagian, Cynthia M. Rooney and husband, David, J. Michael Naughton III, William D. Naughton Jr., and wife, JoAnne, Timothy C. Naughton and wife, Kathleen, Gregory C. Naughton, Timothy J. Johnson and M. Courtney Johnson; and four great-grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., on Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Patrick's Catholic Church on Wednesday at 9 a.m. with the Rev. Thomas Bevan as celebrant.

Interment will be in the SS. Peter & Paul cemetery.

WILLIAM C. NEDROW
FRIENDSVILLE- William Clayton Nedrow, 57, of 1325 Dixon Road, Friendsville, died Sunday, Dec. 20, 1998, shortly after arrival at Garrett County Memorial Hospital, Oakland.
Born Nov. 15, 1941, in McHenry, he was a son of the late Charles Alfred and Esther Rena (VanSickle) Nedrow. He was physical plant director for Garrett Community College.

He is survived by his wife, Julia Ann (Feazelle) Nedrow; a son, William Ernest Nedrow, Rockville; two brothers, Charles Leo Nedrow, Baltimore, George Edward Nedrow, Friendsville; and a sister, Esther Maureen Stewart, Friendsville.

Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., Friendsville, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted at Grace Brethren Church, Accident, on Wednesday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Rodney Durst officiating. Friends may call at the church one hour prior to services.

Interment will be in the Nedrow Family cemetery.

Pallbearers will be John Furr, Larry Suter, David Thomas, Kermit Feazelle, Darrell Stewart and Michael Nedrow.

Expressions of sympathy may be directed to Hospice of Garrett County.

WILLIAM "BILL" NEFF
WESTERNPORT - William R. "Bill" Neff, 46, of 209 Ross St., Westernport, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, Aug. 31, 1998, at Westernport.
Born in Keyser, W.Va., on Aug. 26, 1952, he was the son of the late William Neff Jr. and Betty (Warnick) Neff.

Mr. Neff was appointed Superintendent of the Upper Potomac River Commission, Waste Treatment Facilities in August 1992. He was also appointed Supervisory Engineer of the U.P.R.C., Savage River Dam in August 1992. He was the Assistant Superintendent from December 1974 until his appointment as Superintendent in 1992. He held certification with the State of Maryland Waterworks and Waste Systems Operators. He was appointed by Governor Paris N. Glendening as a member of the State Board of Waterworks and Waste Systems Operators in 1995. He held memberships in the Water Environment Federation, the American Waterworks Association, and the Association of State Dam Safety Officials.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Westernport, where he served as a Deacon, a lay speaker and was also a Sunday School and Bible School teacher.

Mr. Neff was a 1970 graduate of Bruce High School and a 1974 graduate of Frostburg State University with a bachelor of science degree in Biology, and he earned a Master of Business Administration Degree in 1983. He was a former member of the Potomac Fire Company, Westernport, and the Tri-Towns Rescue Squad. He was also a life member and past president of the Westernport Elementary School P.T.A., having been instrumental in obtaining and maintaining a state-of-the-art playground at the school. Mr. Neff was a girls softball coach and played a significant role in bringing girls softball to the area. He was also a soccer coach.

Surviving are his wife, Cindy (Reichert) Neff; two daughters, Christy Neff and Katie Neff, at home; two uncles, Frank Neff, and wife, Thelma, of Tyrone, Pa., and Fred Neff and wife, Alice, Oakland; and a stepmother, Inez Neff, Lonaconing.

Friends will be received at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport, on Thursday, Sept. 3, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Funeral services will be conducted at the First Baptist Church, Westernport, on Friday, Sept. 4, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Homer Beeman officiating.

Interment will be in the Philos cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Westernport Elementary School Accelerated Reader Program or to the school library.

Cards for memorials can be picked up at the funeral home.

ERNEST C. NELSON SR.
CUMBERLAND - Ernest Clyde Nelson Sr., 48, of 477 Baltimore Ave., Cumberland, died Tuesday, June 16, 1998, at Memorial Hospital.
Born Feb. 20, 1950, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Arlie R. Nelson and the late Nellie (Hymes) Nelson.

Mr. Nelson was a former employee of Kelly Springfield Tire Co. He was a graduate of Fort Hill High School and Uniontown School of Drafting, Uniontown, Pa. He was a Protestant by faith.

Surviving are a son, Ernest C. Nelson II, Cumberland; a daughter, Amie L. Nelson, Oxford, N.C.; a former wife, Connie (Kifer) Nelson, Cumberland; three brothers, Granville Nelson and wife Patti, Smithburg, Timothy D. Nelson, Cumberland, and Gerald W. Nelson and wife Sharon, Ridgeley, W.Va.; three sisters, Arlene Horst and husband Sammy, Shirley Baughman, and Eva Boward and husband Buck, all of Hagerstown; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Friday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Ernest Santmyre officiating.

Interment will be in the Mount Hope cemetery near Artemas, Pa.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to the family in care of the son, Ernest C. Nelson II, 477 Baltimore St., Cumberland, MD 21502.

LEONA MABEL NELSON
ECKHART - Leona M. Nelson, 85, of 10113 Parkersburg Road, N.W., Frostburg, died Sunday, Aug. 2, 1998, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland.
Born Nov. 19, 1912, in Vale Summit, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Lula (Phillips) Loar. She also was preceded in death by her step-father, Raymond Henry; and one son, Robert O. Nelson.

Mrs. Nelson was a homemaker. She was a member of the Eckhart United Methodist Church.

Surviving are her husband of 67 years, Ralph O. Nelson; three daughters, Lois Filsinger, and husband, Norman, Clarysville, Rosalee Warnick, and husband, Jack, Frostburg, and Nancy Pugh, and husband, George, Fulton; two sons, Ralph G. Nelson, and wife, Lynn, Frostburg, and John E. Nelson, and wife, Pam, Mountain Lake Park; a half-brother, Raymond "Lou" Henry, and wife, Cleo, Frostburg; 17 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at the Durst Funeral Home, 57 Frost Ave., Frostburg, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Wednesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. George M. Harpold officiating.

Interment will be in the Eckhart cemetery. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

The family request memorials be directed to the Eckhart Methodist Church.

LINDA NAN NELSON
LAVALE - Linda Nan Nelson, 50, of LaVale, died Thursday, May 14, 1998, at Memorial Hospital.
Born Aug. 22, 1947, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of Alvin Leo Brill and Eileen H. (Barb) Brill of Cumberland.

Mrs. Nelson was a 1965 graduate of Allegany High School and Catherman's Business School. She was a dental hygienist for the late William Allen, D.D.S., and a secretary/receptionist for the central office of the Allegany County Board of Education. Mrs. Nelson was a member of Central Assembly of God Church and Fort Hill Band Parents Association. She was a pianist for the late Rev. Wilbur Elliott at the Senior Citizens Center.

Besides her parents, she is survived by a husband, John L. Nelson, LaVale; a son, Aaron S. Nelson, and wife, Betsy, Frostburg; and a daughter, Heather N. Kaiser, and husband, Kyle, LaVale.

Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Friends will also be received at the Central Assembly of God Church on Monday from 10 to 11 a.m.

Services will be conducted on Monday at 11 a.m. at the Central Assembly of God Church with the Rev. Gary Butler, the Rev. Robert Hymes and the Rev. Doug Willoughby officiating.

Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be Allan Lewis, Leonard Blank, Jim Briner, Crable Santmyire, Sonny Huffman and Harold Hipsley.
