JOSEPH D. PINTO
CHESTERFIELD, Va. - Joseph D. Pinto, 59, of 14349 Old Bond St., Chesterfield, died Saturday, Feb. 21, 1998, at the Chippenham Medical Center, Richmond.
Born Aug. 15, 1938, in New York City, he was the son of the late Michael Pinto and Marion (Deluca) Pinto, of Staten Island, N.Y.

Mr. Pinto worked in customer service at the Westvaco Corp. in Richmond. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was a member of the St. John Newman Catholic Church, Herndon, and was an avid golfer.

Surviving are his wife, Marlene (Sullivan) Hines Pinto; one son, Joseph Kevin Pinto, Queens, N.Y.; two stepsons, Greg Hines, Centerville, and Doug Hines, Westernport, Md.; two daughters, Dina Pinto, Queens, and Stacie Pinto, Winchester; one brother, Charles Pinto, Long Island, N.Y.; one sister, Jeanne D'Amato, Staten Island; and five grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport, on Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m., and Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Westernport, on Thursday at 11 a.m. with Father James Hannon officiating.

Interment will be in the Philos cemetery, Westernport.

A Christian Wake service will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

AGNES C. PIPER
BALTIMORE - Agnes C. Piper, 75, of Ravenswood Nursing and Rehab Center, Baltimore, died Friday, Oct. 10, 1997, at the nursing center.
Born Oct. 10, 1922, in Eckhart, she was the daughter of the late James M. Piper Sr. and Idella (Leake) Piper.

Miss Piper was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, Frostburg.

Surviving are two sisters, Jane L. Crowe and husband John, Frostburg, and Mary Lois Ucci and husband Pompelio, Pensacola, Fla.; one brother, James Michael Piper Jr. and wife Virginia, Radford, Va.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

At Mrs. Piper's request, her body was donated to the Maryland Board of Anatomy.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Michael's Catholic Church on Saturday, April 25, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. William J. Moody officiating.

Interment will be in the St. Michael's cemetery.

The Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, is in charge of arrangements.

HOWARD O. PIPER
CORRIGANVILLE- Howard Olen Piper, 71, of Cash Valley Road, died Tuesday at Lion's Manor Nursing Home following a lengthy illness.
He was born May 8, 1927, at Oldtown, a son of the late Daniel and Agnes (Beeman) Piper.

Mr. Piper is survived by his wife of 49 years, Betty Jane (Lowery) Piper; a son, Richard O., married to Norma (Schilling), Upper Homewood; a granddaughter, Dawn Piper; and a great-granddaughter, both of Upper Homewood; a sister, Agnes Piper, Blackstone, Va.; and a niece, Nancy (Lowery) Hunter, St. John's Newfoundland, Canada.

He was preceded in death by five brothers and one sister.

Mr. Piper was a crusher operator who had worked for Cumberland Cement and the Martin-Marietta Mandley Sands Plant. Later he worked for a number of years for Sacred Heart Hospital. He served as a military policeman for the 16th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division, U.S. Army in the European Theatre during World War II. He attended the New Life Tabernacle, Cumberland, and the Apostolic Church of Jesus Christ, Kennells Mills, Pa.

Friends will be received at the Harvey H. Zeigler Funeral Home on Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. and on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday at 1 p.m. with Henry L. Crissinger officiating.

Interment will be in Restlawn Memorial Gardens.

Military honors will be conferred by the Combined Veterans Honor Guard of Allegany County.

TERRY W. PITTSNOGLE
CUMBERLAND - Terry Wayne Pittsnogle, 44, of Cumberland, died Wednesday, July 22, 1998, in Cumberland.
Born Feb. 14, 1954, in Berkeley County, W.Va., he was the son of the late Alston C. and Virginia E. (Caton) Pittsnogle.

Surviving are two sisters, Marsha A. Pittsnogle, Martinsburg, W.Va., and Sandra S. Thompson, Hedgesville, W.Va.; three nieces; three nephews; and special friends Janet, Gayle and Eric DiChiera.

The family will receive friends at the Rosedale Funeral Chapel, Martinsburg, Monday, July 27, 1998, from 5 to 7 p.m.

Services will be held at the Rosedale Funeral Chapel Monday at 7 p.m.

Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.

GOLDA A. PITZER
CUMBERLAND - Golda Agnes Pitzer, 94, formally of RFD 3, Bedford Road, Cumberland, died Thursday, July 23, 1998, at the Frostburg Village Nursing Home.
Born Nov. 1, 1903, in Augusta, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Harper Wolford and the late Maggie (Shanholtz) Wolford. She also was preceded in death by her husband, William Jenvey Pitzer, on Sept. 15, 1987.

Mrs. Pitzer was a former employee of Lerner's and Cumberland Coat and Suit. She also was a volunteer for the Welcome Wagon and the Eye Bank. She was a member of Centre Street United Methodist Church and the YMCA Auxiliary.

Surviving are a son, Dr. William E. Pitzer and wife Dorothy, St. Michael's; a stepsister, Pauline Lutz, California; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Lloyd B. McCanna officiating.

Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.

CLAUDE E. PLATTER
GRANTSVILLE - Claude Eldred Platter, 71, of 646 Dung Hill Road, Grantsville, died Thursday, Jan. 1, 1998, at the Garrett Memorial Hospital, Oakland.
Born Feb. 11, 1926, he was the son of the late Austin and Rosa (Fresh) Platter. He also was preceded in death by one brother, Ray Platter; and one sister, Pauline Kerns.

Mr. Platter was a retired heavy equipment operator at the Harbison-Walker Refractories, Grantsville. Ha also was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in the Korean Conflict.

Surviving are his wife, Margaret H. (Snyder) Platter; two sons, Marvin Platter, Spokane, Wash., and Wayne Platter, Grantsville; one daughter, Carolyn Jones, Hendricks, W.Va.; one brother, Ellis Platter, Grantsville; two sisters, June and Alma Platter, Grantsville; and nine grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Home, Grantsville, on Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Sunday at 2 p.m. with the Vernon Snyder officiating. Interment will be in the Grantsville cemetery.

Expressions of sympathy may be directed to the American Diabetes Association.

WILLIAM "BUD" PLATTER
CUMBERLAND - William V. "Bud" Platter, 74, of Booth Towers, Cumberland, formerly of Long Stretch, died Thursday, Aug. 27, 1998, in Washington Hospital Center.
Born Sept. 20, 1923, in Frostburg, he was the son of the late Howard Richard and Corolla (Weimer) Platter Sr. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Louise (Wilson) Platter, on April 23, 1990; and a sister, Mary McKenzie Grabenstein.

Mr. Platter was a member of the Frostburg Church of the Nazarene, a World War II Veteran, serving with the U.S. Army. He owned, operated and retired from the Platter's Homestyle Bakery and Long Stretch Youth Home. He was a member of the Gideons International, Farrady Post #24 American Legion, Nazarenes in Social Work, Rotary Club of Grantsville. He volunteered at Western Maryland Food Bank, the Salvation Army and the Golden Agers, and the Eastern Garrett County Senior Center.

Surviving are his sons, Richard Platter and wife, Bonnie, Delmar, Del., and Jonathan William Platter, National Highway, Frostburg; daughters, Diana Loar, Cumberland, and Karen Dishong and husband, Greg, National Highway, Frostburg; and brother Howard R. Platter Jr. and wife, Sylvia, Shaft; three grandsons, five granddaughters; and one great-granddaughter.

Friends will be received at the Hafer Frost Mansion Funeral Home, 58 Frost Ave., Frostburg, on Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Funeral services will be conducted on Sunday at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Jack Pease officiating, assisted by Pastor Gary Barkley.

Interment will follow in Grantsville cemetery, Grantsville. Military honors will be accorded at the graveside by the Farrady Post #24 American Legion.

Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Mr. Platter to the Western Maryland Food Bank, P.O. Box 243, Cumberland, MD 21502.

Pallbearers will be three grandsons, Wesley Loar, Sean Platter, Vince Dishong, and Scott Loar, Howard Richard Platter III, Robert Beachy and John Price.

Frostburg Church of the Nazarene will receive family and friends following the service at the cemetery.
