CHARLES T. PLUMMER
CUMBERLAND - Charles T. "Charlie" Plummer, 70, of Cumberland, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Feb. 18, 1998, at Memorial Hospital, Cumberland.
Born Oct. 16, 1927, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Charles H. and Nola Mae (Shelley) Plummer. He also was preceded in death by one brother, Wayne H. Plummer.
Mr. Plummer was a retired employee of the Chessie System after 44 years of service, and he was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Second Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon, Sunday School superintendent and teacher, and a member of the choir. He was a member of the Fort Cumberland American Legion Post 13 and the Mall Walkers Association.
Surviving are his wife of 49 years, Violet L. (Garlitz) Plummer; one son, Charles L. Davis and wife Joyce, Naples, Fla.; three daughters, Karen F. VanMeter, Cumberland, Judy A. Davis, Nebo, N.C., and Patricia L. Hitt, Marion, N.C.; one brother, Kent M. Plummer and wife Carol, St. Stephens Church, Va.; four sisters, Norma L. Breighner and husband Ray, Ridgeley, W.Va., Delores Y. Twigg and husband James, Hyndman, Pa., Donna L. Cosner and husband Olvie, Nola M. Aldridge and husband William, all of Cumberland; 13 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and numerous special aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, on Friday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. There will be visitation one hour prior to the service at the church.
Services will be conducted at the Second Baptist Church, 1 Grand Ave., Cumberland, on Saturday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Sherrill A. Dillon officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
Military honors will be accorded by the Maryland Veterans Honor Guard.
Grandsons and nephews will serve as pallbearers and honorary pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the Second Baptist Church Organ Fund.
GILBERT L. PLUMMER
FROSTBURG - Gilbert L. Plummer, 79, of Frostburg Heights Apartments, formerly of 210 W. Mechanic St., Frostburg, died Friday, Dec. 18, 1998, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born Oct. 26, 1919, in Frostburg, he was the son of the late Robert and Hazel (Streets) Plummer.
Mr. Plummer was a retired painter from the Allegany Ballistics Laboratory. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church, Frostburg; Farrady Post 24 American Legion; and Frostburg Moose Lodge 348.
Surviving are his wife, Blanch (McElwee) Plummer; a daughter, Pamela Jane Ness, Sykesville; a stepdaughter, Darlene Hill, Perry Hall; two brothers, Ronald Plummer, Rawlings, W.Va., and Harold Plummer, Baltimore; a sister, Nellie Smith, Augusta, W.Va.; and two grandchildren.
Mr. Plummer's body was cremated. At his request, there will be no visitation or services.
Inurnment will be in the Rest Lawn Memorial Gardens, LaVale.
The Durst Funeral Home, Frostburg, is in charge of arrangements.
HILDA "JANIE" POLLOCK
FROSTBURG - Hilda "Janie" Pollock, 49, of 216 Shaw St., Frostburg, died March 9, 1998, at Memorial Hospital.
Born Dec. 15, 1948, in Frostburg, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Beuna (Robinson) Pollock.
Ms. Pollock was a member of the God's Ark of Safety Church, Frostburg. She formerly was employed at the Frostburg State University library, and she was a member of the Maryland Classified Employees Association.
Surviving are one brother, Roger L. Pollock, Frostburg; a close friend, Jane Taylor, Wright's Crossing; and several aunts; uncles; and cousins.
Friends will be received at the Durst Funeral Home, 57 Frost Ave., Frostburg, on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Thursday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Everett Spence and the Rev. Richard Green officiating.
Interment will be at Frostburg Memorial Park.

VIOLET E. POPP
CUMBERLAND - Violet Elizabeth Popp, 74, of Cumberland, died Sunday, Aug. 16, 1998, at St. Joseph Hospital, Baltimore.
Born June 28, 1924, in Frostburg, she was the daughter of the late William McKinley Popp Sr. and Violet V. (Duckworth) Popp. She was also preceded in death by one brother, William M. Popp Jr.; and one sister, Carol Anne Popp.
Miss Popp was a retired missionary and a member of Second Baptist Church. She was a graduate of Fort Hill High School and Memorial Hospital School of Nursing. She received her bachelor of science degree from the University of Pittsburgh, where she also received her master of science degree. Miss Popp also attended the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary at Louisville, Ky.
Miss Popp taught at the Memorial Hospital School of Nursing, where she served as co-director, prior to her appointment as a missionary. She was appointed by the Foreign Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention in May 1953, and served as a medical missionary in Jordan until her retirement in 1989.
Miss Popp was active in Second Baptist Church, the Western Baptist Association, served as the State President of the Baptist Nursing Fellowship, and as a member of the Executive Board of Women's Missionary Union of Maryland/Delaware. Miss Popp was a volunteer at Memorial Hospital, a member of the American Nurses Association, Sigma Theta Tau International, and other professional associations.
Surviving are three sisters, V. Marlene Popp, Cumberland, Emily Ulmer and husband, Elwood, Baltimore, Judith Vassar and husband, Thomas, Fredericksburg, Va.; two brothers, Robert L. Popp and wife, Esther, Joseph Glenn Popp, all of Cumberland; nine nieces; four nephews; and a number of great-nieces and great-nephews.

REV. HUGH PORTER
BARTON- The Rev. Hugh Porter, 85, of 24013 Kyle Hill Road, Barton, died Saturday, Dec. 12, 1998 at Potomac Valley Hospital, Keyser, W.Va.
Born Sept. 10, 1913, in Barton, he was the son of the late Joseph and Arvada (Moore) Porter.
Rev. Porter was a graduate of Barton High School, a graduate of Zion Bible Institute, Providence, R.I., also a graduate of Washington Radio Institute, Washington, D.C., a member of the General Council of the Assembly of God in Springfield, Mo., and the Potomac District of Fairfax, Va.; a member of Lonaconing Assembly of God Church, where he taught Sunday School for 20 years. He pastored churches in Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia and Maryland for over 30 years.
Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Eva (Kyle) Porter; one daughter, Peggy L. Saville and husband, Boyd, Gaithersburg; two brothers, Raymond Porter and wife, Phyllis, and Kenneth Porter and wife, Coleen, all of Barton.
Friends will be received at the Boal Memorial Chapel, Barton, on Monday, Dec. 14, from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the Chapel on Tuesday, Dec. 15, at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Donald Webb and the Rev. Alvin Kyle officiating.
Interment will be in Rest Lawn Memorial Gardens, LaVale.
LILY A. PORTER
CUMBERLAND - Lily Anita (VanMeter) Porter, 91, of Mount Savage, died Friday, Oct. 16, 1998, at Memorial Hospital, Cumberland.
Born Oct. 10, 1907, in Wellersburg, P.A., she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Nellie (Preston) Johns. She also was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. Elmer Porter; two daughters, Dolores Knisley, Darlee Baker; and one son, George VanMeter.
Mrs. Porter was a homemaker. She was a member of the Apostolic Lighthouse Church and the church choir.
Surviving are three sons, Donald VanMeter and wife, Sue, Corriganville, James VanMeter and wife, Linda, Wellersburg, Pa., David VanMeter and wife, Judy, Cash Valley Road, LaVale; two daughters, Erma Parker, Vienna, Va., Mary Myers, Baltimore; two step-sons, Lester Porter and wife, Gertrude, Mount Savage, Melvin Porter and wife, Patty, Mount Savage; three step-daughters, Mary Knippenberg, South Carolina, Marguerite Dentler and husband, Sam, Greencastle, Pa., Grace Lyons, West Virginia; two brothers, Arthur Johns, Texas, Victor Johns and wife Lou, Ellicott City; two sisters, Gloria Lease and husband, Lloyd, Barrelville, Erma Glass, Mount Savage; 27 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., on Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the Apostolic Lighthouse Church, Corriganville, on Tuesday at 1 p.m. with Pastor James Glass officiating. There will be visitiation one hour prior to the service.
Interment will be in Cooks cemetery, Wellersburg.
Pallbearers will be grandchildren.
