ELIZA N. POWELL
FROSTBURG - Eliza N. Powell, 98, of Rest Assured Living Center, Meyersdale, Pa., formerly of Frostburg, died Friday, March 20, 1998 at Rest Assured Living Center.
Born Sept. 7, 1899, in Barton, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles E. Powell and daughter, Delores Bell Holmes; and eight siblings.

Mrs. Powell had been an active member of the Frostburg Church of the Brethren and God's Ark of Safety.

Surviving are one step-daughter, Mary Margaret Powell, Timonium; two granddaughters, Lucinda Holmes Kenney and husband, Robert, Virginia, Adina L. Brode and husband, Paul, Maryland; three great-grandchildren, Tamara D. Drew, Caroline A. Kenney and Brett P. Kenney.

Mrs. Powell donated her body to the Anatomy Board of Maryland.

ESTHER R. POWELL
LONACONING - Esther Rebecca Powell, 85, of Crystal Run Road, Lonaconing, died Thursday, March 19, 1998, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born June 15, 1912, at Lonaconing, she was a daughter of the late Edward and Molly (Staup) Robertson. Her husband, Edward Harvey Powell, died on Aug. 23, 1976.

Mrs. Powell was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Lonaconing, for more than 70 years, and was a member of the Mary Martha Circle of the Church. She was a member of Martha Washington Chapter 10 OES, Lonaconing; Morning Star Temple 1 Pythian Sisters, Lonaconing; and Senior Citizens of Georges Creek.

Surviving are one son, Billy J. Powell Sr. and wife Anna Lee, Lonaconing; one daughter, Betty Esther Powell, Lonaconing; one sister, Glenna Robertson Winters, Gilmore; grandchildren, Mollie A. Lawrence, LaVale, Richard Henry, Miami, Fla., Billy J. Powell Jr., Frostburg, Ricky Edward Powell, Lonaconing, Scott Lynn Powell, Gilmore, Tracy Thomas, Lonaconing, and Ruppert Powell, Lonaconing; and great-grandchildren, Jesse Powell and Shanna Powell, both of Frostburg, Lydia Powell, Frostburg, Cody Powell, Gilmore, Madison Lawrence, LaVale, and Adam Thomas, Lonaconing; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at the Eichhorn-McKenzie Funeral Home, P.A., Lonaconing, on Friday from 7 to 9 p.m., and Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted at First Presbyterian Church, Lonaconing, on Sunday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. George Loar officiating.

The body will be taken to the church one hour prior to the services.

Interment will be in Frostburg Memorial Park.

Martha Washington Chapter 10 OES will hold a memorial service at the funeral home on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.

ROBERT D. POWERS
CUMBERLAND - Robert Donald Powers, 68, of Trost Ave., Cumberland, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, died Thursday, Nov. 5, 1998, at Memorial Hospital Hospice Unit.
Born Aug. 10, 1930, in Cumberland, Md., he was the son of the late Elmer C. and Clara E. (Eline) Powers. He was preceded in death by one brother, Howard F. Powers; four sisters, Nellie Hook, Helen Murphy, Dorothy Heavener and Doris Ehreshman.

Mr. Powers was a former employee of the B&O; Railroad and the City of Cumberland Fire Department. He retired from Acme Market, White Oaks. He was a member of the First Christian Church, Bedford Street, and was past president of Local 27 U.F.C.W.

Surviving are his wife, Gladys Marie (Glaze) Powers; one son, Charles Rusty Powers, Ellerslie; two sisters, Margaret Kerns and husband, Dave, Oldtown, Mildred Huff and husband, Charles, Mount Savage; two brothers, Paul L. Powers and wife, Betty, Cumberland, Charles E. Powers and wife, Gladys, Wellersburg, Pa.; three grandchildren, Brian J. Powers, Craig J. Powers, Amanda M. Powers; two great-grandchildren, Matthew B. Powers and Scarlett Whitley-Powers.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., on Sunday from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Monday at 1:30 p.m. with Pastor Kay White Barmoy officiating.

Interment will be in Restlawn Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Dave Whitacre, Ricky Whitacre, Rick Glaze, Richard Huff, Robert Huff and Mike Powers.

JAMES PRATT
CUMBERLAND - James Pratt, 72, formerly of 223 Baltimore Ave., Cumberland, died Tuesday, May 12, 1998, at Frostburg Village Nursing Home.
Born Aug. 25, 1925, in Mount Savage, he was the son of the late John Andrew Pratt and the late Dorcas Elizabeth (Criger) Pratt. He also was preceded in death by three brothers, Father Richard Pratt, Jack Pratt and Edward Pratt; and a sister, Frances Criger.

Mr. Pratt was a retired janitor for Liberty Trust Company. He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, the Cumberland Eagles Aerie #245, and the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge #271.

Surviving are a brother, Robert Pratt, Armburst, Pa.; two sisters, Mrs. Sarah Werner, Frostburg, and Mrs. Elizabeth "Betty" Lewis, York, Pa.; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Wednesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday at 1 p.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Mount Savage with the Father Milton A. Hipsley as celebrant.

Interment will be in St. Patrick's Catholic cemetery in Mount Savage.

MELVIN M. PRESTON
BARTON - Melvin M. Preston, 77, of Miller Road, Barton, went home to be with the Angels on Thursday, Jan. 29, 1998. Following a lengthy illness, he died at home.
Born June 2, 1920, in Barton, he was the son of the late Tobe and Lula (Urice) Preston. He also was preceded in death by one son, Ronnie Lee Preston; and one grandson, Wayde R. Preston.

Mr. Preston was retired from Buffalo Coal Co.

Surviving are his loving and devoted wife of 57 years, Evelyn (Paugh) Preston; four sons, William and Linda Preston, Hagerstown, David and Audrey Preston, Falls Church, Va., Gary and Valerie Preston, Stafford, Va., and Toby and Debbie Preston, Barton; four daughters, Carol and Jim Lepley, Keyser, W.Va., Judy and Raymond Mercer, Strasburg, Va., Ruth and John Thomas, Barton; and Mary and Terry Meyers, Barton; 25 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

The Boal Funeral Home, Westernport, is in charge of arrangements. A private viewing was held Thursday at the funeral home.

At Mr. Preston's request, he was cremated.

A graveside service will be held at a later date.

GENEVA MAE PRICE
RICHMOND, Va. - Mrs. Geneva Mae Bittinger Price, Richmond, died Feb. 2, 1998, at the Hermitage Cedarfield Health Care Center.
Born Dec. 21, 1905, in Cumberland, Md., Mrs. Price was the widow of the Reverend Benjamin T. Price, a retired minister in the United Methodist Church, and served with him in many areas of Virginia. She also was a music teacher for more than 60 years.

She is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Barbara Price Wallach, Columbia, Mo., Patricia Price Ruscus and David J. Ruscus, Manakin-Sabot, Va.

Remains are at Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home.

Funeral services will take place on Saturday, Feb. 7, at 11 a.m. at Trinity Methodist Church, 903 Forest Avenue, with interment at Westhampton Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Trinity United Methodist Church, 903 Forest Avenue, Richmond, with interment at Westhampton Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Trinity United Methodist Church Foundation.

MEGHAN E. PRICE
DEEP CREEK LAKE - Meghan E. Price, age 20, of 934 Thousand Acres Road, Deep Creek Lake, died on Tuesday, Dec. 29, 1998, as a result of an automobile accident on Route 495 near Swanton.
Meghan was born March 31, 1978, in Cumberland, Md. She was the daughter of John A. " Sonny" Price and Karlyn S. (Johnson) Price, Deep Creek Lake.

She was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Oakland. She was a graduate of Southern High School Class of 1995. She was a member of the Student Council for four years and was President of the Student Council in her senior year. She was a member of the National Honor Society. She was a member of the Southern Marching Band for four years and served as Drum Major in her senior year. She was a member of the girls softball team for four years. She was also a member of the Frostburg State University and West Virginia University Honor Bands. She helped with the Blind Skiers program at the Wisp.

Meghan was a senior at the University of Maryland and was President of the Student Government Association. She was majoring in Government and Politics. She was selected to attend the LeaderShape Institute in 1996. She was appointed to the position of Cambridge Community Legislator during her freshman year and was appointed Legislative Director in her sophomore year. In her junior year she was elected Vice President of Campus Affairs. In addition to being an honor student at Maryland, Price has received the 1997 Director's Award for Program Excellence in the Public Leadership area of the College Park Scholars Program. Also in 1997, she was inducted into the Omicron Delta Kappa National Leadership Honor Society.

During the summers and school breaks Meghan was employed by Uno's Restaurant, Deep Creek Lake.

In addition to her parents she is survived by a brother, Jonathon Price, at home; her maternal grandmother, Eloween Johnson, Berkeley Springs, W.Va.; her paternal grandmother, Bessie Price, Westernport; and numerous aunts and uncles.

Meghan was preceded in death by her paternal grandfather, Charles I. Price.

Friends will be received at the Fredlock Funeral Home, Piedmont, W.Va., on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., and on Saturday at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Oakland, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Joint funeral services for Meghan and her grandfather, Carl Johnson, will be held at St. Paul's United Methodist Church on Sunday at 2 p.m. The Rev. Roger A. Harrison Sr. and the Rev. Ann W. Harrison will officiate.

Interment will be in Garrett Memorial Gardens, Oakland.

The family request that memorials by directed to the First United Bank and Trust on Second Street, Oakland, MD 21550, where a scholarship fund will be established in Meghan's name, or to the College Park Scholars (Leadership Division) Program, University of Maryland College Park.
