HILDA M. RUBY
FLINTSTONE - Hilda Marie Ruby, 79, of Flintstone, died Sunday, Feb. 22, 1998, at Memorial Hospital.
Born May 25, 1918, in Chaneysville, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Percy and Rebecca (Robinette) Bennett. She also was preceded in death by two daughters, Sandra K. Ruby and Debbie A. Ruby; and five brothers.

Mrs. Ruby was a homemaker. She was a member of the Flintstone Assembly of God Church, where she was a Sunday School teacher.

Surviving are her husband, Elmer W. Ruby Sr.; four sons, Jerry L. Ruby and wife Carol, Flintstone, James Ruby, Chaneysville, Elmer W. "Junior" Ruby and Robert L. Ruby, both of Flintstone; one daughter, Sherry A. Ruby and fiance Larry Trail, Flintstone; three sisters, Temple Wolfhope and husband Robert, and Dorothy Beech, all of Ohio, and Eula Beegle, Mercersburg, Pa.; one brother, Robert Bennett and wife Gisa, Germany; four grandchildren, Chad, Angie, Paula and husband Dave, and Clinton and wife Dawn; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, on Monday from 7 to 9 p.m., and Tuesday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Wednesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Robert Yost officiating.

Interment will be in the Odd Fellows cemetery, Flintstone.

CHARLES H. RUDOLPH
CUMBERLAND - Charles H. Rudolph, 91, of Cumberland, died Sunday, Feb. 15, 1998, at the Lions Manor Nursing Home.
Born Dec. 21, 1906, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Henry J. and Edyth M. (Krawse) Rudolph. He also was preceded in death by his brother, William J. Rudolph.

Mr. Rudolph was the owner and operator of Rudolph's Garage, retiring after 35 years of service. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, having served on the USS Garfield. He was a member of the Melvin United Methodist Church, Cumberland. He was a member of Potomac Lodge 100 AF & AM; Cumberland Consistory 32nd degree Scottish Rite Bodies; and the Ali Ghan Shrine Temple.

Survivors include his wife, Hazel L. (Carr) Rudolph; one son, R. Dick Rudolph, Cumberland; two sisters, Bertha E. Morey and Elizabeth M. Brinker, both of Cumberland; and two grandsons, R. Doug Rudolph, Swanton, and Eric G. Rudolph, Washington, D.C.

At Mr. Rudolph's request, his body was donated to the Maryland Anatomy Board.

Memorial services will be conducted at the Melvin United Methodist Church, Cumberland, on Sunday, Feb. 22, 1998, at 3 p.m. with the Rev. Richard Leslie officiating.

The Upchurch Funeral Home, P.A., 202 Greene St., Cumberland, is in charge of the arrangements.

CHARLOTTE "CHUBBY" RUFFO
FROSTBURG - Charlotte D. "Chubby" Ruffo, 76, of Frostburg, died Friday, Feb. 20, 1998, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland.
Born March 24, 1921, in Shaft, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Emma (Meagher) Duncan. She also was preceded in death by five brothers and sisters.

Mrs. Ruffo and her husband owned and operated Ruffo's Tavern in Frostburg for over 30 years. She was a member of the Shaft United Methodist Church.

Surviving are her husband of 47 years, Carl H. Ruffo; two daughters, Carla Rowan and Charlene Ruffo, both of Frostburg; one brother, William Duncan and wife, Eileen, Shaft; three sisters, Naomi McGregor, Cumberland, Mildred Landefeld, Shaft, Helen Ruffo, Eckhart; three grandchildren, Vanessa Rowan, Shera Rowan, Tyler Ruffo; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., Cresaptown, on Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Sunday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Lawrence R. Frye officiating. Interment will be in St. Michael's cemetery.

The family requests contributions be made to St. Michael's School, Bishop Walsh Middle High School, or to the Shaft United Methodist Church.

LEWIS E. RUMMER SR.
CUMBERLAND - Lewis E. Rummer Sr., 63, of Race Street, died Thursday, Aug. 20, 1998, at Washington Hospital Center, Washington, D.C., where he had been a heart patient for one week.
Born July 4, 1935, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Theresa Ann (Counihan) Rummer and Lewis Edward Rummer. He was raised by his grandparents, the late John and Mary Counihan. He was preceded in death by a nephew Robert L. Rummer; his brother-in-law, Bill Simmons; a nephew Patrick M. Counihan; a nephew Shane Bryce Legeer; a son-in-law, Eddie Alan Smith; an uncle, who was like a brother, Joseph Counihan.

"Lou" was a former employee of the Kelly-Springfield Tire Company and was most recently employed at Stan's Auto Body in Cumberland. Mr. Rummer was a 1955 of graduate of Fort Hill High School, and for many years has been an avid follower of the Fort Hill Football Program. He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church. He served in the United States Army as a Supply Sergeant from 1958-60. He was also a former member of the United Rubber Workers Association.

Mr. Rummer's true passion was his family. "Pop," as he was lovingly called by his grandchildren, enjoyed spending time on Town Creek at the family camp. By his example, he taught his children and grandchildren the importance of helping others. He will be remembered for his genuineness and honesty.

Surviving are his wife of 41 years, Barbara (Beery) Rummer; three children, Lewis Edward Rummer Jr., and wife, Kathryn; LuAnn Rummer Whitaker, and husband George; Craig Jennings Rummer, and wife Lorie, all of Cumberland; two sisters, Mary "Sis" Brown, Cumberland, and Teresa Simmons, Philadelphia, Pa.; two brothers, John "Peachie" Rummer, Cumberland, and Robert Rummer, Keyser, W.Va.; and four grandchildren, Jennifer Lynn Rummer, Lewis Glenn Rummer, Tyler Jennings Rummer and Ryan Michael Whitaker.

Friends and family will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home on Virginia Avenue on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., and on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

A celebration of his life will begin at Christ United Methodist Church on Tuesday, Aug. 25, at 2:30 p.m. with the Rev. Max Greenfield and the Rev. Wayne Turner officiating. Friends will be received at the church one hour prior to the service.

Interment will be at Sunset Memorial Park.

Military honors will be accorded by the Combined Veterans Honor Guard.

Pallbearers will be Robert Rummer, Brian Appel, Christopher Zollner, Charles Brakeall, Robert Grabenstein, William Brown Jr., James Brown, Paul Barmoy, James Stoops, William Brown Sr., Bruce Stoops and John Rummer.

CHARLES W. RUPPENKAMP
CUMBERLAND - Charles W. Ruppenkamp, 58, of Cumberland, died Wednesday, March 25, 1998, of Lou Gehrig's disease at Memorial Hospital, Cumberland.
Born Oct. 26, 1939, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late William J. and Nellie A. (Dennis) Ruppenkamp.

Mr. Ruppenkamp was a Trainman for the CSX Western Maryland Railroad, Cumberland, and a U.S. Navy veteran. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Cresaptown Eagles, Cumberland Moose, Cresaptown Knights of Columbus, and the United Trainmen's Union.

Surviving are his wife, Patricia A. (Lueck) Ruppenkamp; two daughters, Jane Marie Ruppenkamp, Fairfax, Va., and Kellie Linn (Ruppenkamp) Pendergast and husband Keith, Cumberland; two sons, Michael Charles Ruppenkamp and wife Teri, and Douglas Edward Ruppenkamp and wife Renee, all of Cumberland; one sister, Charlotte E. Sanders and husband Jerry, Keyser, W.Va.; one brother, Ronald J. Ruppenkamp and wife Michelle, Virginia Beach, Va.; one grandson, Brian Michael Ruppenkamp, Morgantown, W.Va.; mother-in-law, Agnes Marie Lueck, Cumberland; and brother-in-law, Thomas E. Lueck, Cumberland.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. The Rosary will be recited at 8:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary's Catholic Church on Saturday at 11 a.m. with Father Milton A. Hipsley as celebrant. Interment will be in Restlawn Memorial Gardens.

Military honors will be accorded by the Combined Veterans Honor Guard.

Mr. Ruppenkamp was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He will be sadly missed.

JAMES R. RUSSELL
GILMORE - James R. Russell, 77, of Gilmore, died Sunday, March 29, 1998, at Frostburg Village Nursing Home.
Born on July 20, 1920, in Barton, he was the son of the late Robert and Alice (Scollick) Russell. He also was predeceased by a brother, William Russell; and a sister, Barbara Russell.

Mr. Russell retired in 1982 from the Great A & P Tea Company after 32 years of service, 20 of which he was manager of the Lonaconing store. Prior to that he was employed by the Celanese Corporation. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II, having served in the European Theatre.

During the late 1930s he was a member of the C.C.C.s stationed in Frederick where he assisted in the construction of Gambrill State Park.

Mr. Russell was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Midland; the American Legion Post 189, Barton, and the Alvin C. Neat Post 5280 V.F.W., Lonaconing.

Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Catherine (Lancaster) Russell; three daughters, Mary Ziler and husband, Irvin, National, Rita Fidler and husband, Ronald Sr., Frostburg, and Jeanne Smith and husband, Ronald, Potomac Park; five grandchildren, Wayne Ziler, McCoole, Ronald Fidler Jr., Hagerstown, Bobby Ziler, National, Marci Fidler, Frostburg, and Dawn Noel Smith, Potomac Park; four great-grandchildren, David, Amanda and Lindsay Ziler, McCoole, and Tara Ziler, Eckhart; and three sisters, Leona Rae, Midland, Alice Ashby and Margaret Metz, both of Barton.

Friends will be received at the Sowers Funeral Home, P.A., 60 West Main St., Frostburg, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. V.F.W. Post 5280 Lonaconing will conduct a service at 7:15 p.m.

Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Frostburg, on Wednesday at 11 a.m. with Father Paul A. Byrnes as celebrant.

Interment will be in Frostburg Memorial Park. Graveside military rites will be accorded by American Legion Post 189, V.F.W. Post #5280, and American Legion Post 24.

Pallbearers will be Wayne Ziler, Ronald Fidler Jr., Bobby Ziler, Robert Hess, Richard Kerns and George Hersh.
