MARTHA V. RYAN
RIDGELEY, W.Va. - Martha V. Ryan, 86, of Ridgeley, died Thursday, March 26, 1998, at Memorial Hospital.
Born Jan. 9, 1912, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late Perry and Mabel (Snider) Corwell. She was preceded in death by her huasband, William McKinley Ryan; one brother, Paul Corwell; and one sister, Thelma Hamilton.

Mrs. Ryan was a homemaker.

Surviving are a son, Ronald E. Ryan, and wife, Loretta, Flintstone; an adopted son, Ronald William Ryan, and friend, Carol Frankenberry, Milleson's Mill, W.Va.; a step-son, Richard Ryan, and wife, Joan, Millerdale; one step-daughter, Arletta Abe, and husband, Lawrence, Patterson Creek; 10 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., on Saturday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Sunday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Wayne R. Turner officiating.

Interment will be in Mount Herman cemetery, Cumberland.

Pallbearers will be Joe Dodrill, Bud Swick, Barry Smith and Ted Lynch.

J. HUBERT RADCLIFFE
CUMBERLAND - J. Hubert "Hubie" Radcliffe, 91, of Roeth Avenue, Cumberland, died at his residence on Monday, March 16, 1998.
He was born April 22, 1906, at Beryl, W.Va., the son of the late Jonathan Radcliffe and Nellie (Bishoff) Radcliffe. He also was preceded in death by a sister and two brothers.

Mr. Radcliffe was the retired Supervisor of Transportation for the Allegany County Board of Education, having retired on June 30, 1973. He was a teacher at Short Gap School, Ridgeley Elementary School and Ridgeley High School. He was a science teacher at Allegany High School where he served as the baseball coach for 13 years, a Principal at Oldtown School and Mount Savage School with 40 years of service to the teaching profession. He was a graduate of Allegany High School class of 1925 and Shepherd College class of 1932.

He was a member of Centre Street United Methodist Church where he served as head usher for many years. He also was a member of the United Methodist Men's Club and served as program chairman for many years, a member of Ohr Lodge #131, A.F. & A.M., Scottish Rite Bodies of Cumberland, and Ali Ghan Shrine Temple. While at Shepherd College, he excelled as a three-sport athlete earning letters in baseball, football and basketball, and in 1932 was president of his class and delivered the commencement address to the class of 1932. Upon graduation he played professional baseball for several seasons. He was responsible for organizing the Cumberland High School Recreation League. He was inducted into the Shepherd College Athletic Hall of Fame on Oct. 5, 1990.

He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann "Mamie" (Haines) Radcliffe; and three nephews.

Friends will be received at the Kight Funeral Home, 309-311 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. only.

Services will be held at the Centre Street United Methodist Church in Cumberland on Thursday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Lloyd B. McCanna officiating. Interment will be at Rose Hill cemetery. Friends may call at the church after 10 a.m.

Pallbearers will be from the United Methodist Men's Club of the church.

Honorary pallbearers will be from the United Methodist Men's Club and the ushers' club.

DONALD A. RADER
CUMBERLAND - Donald Allen "Yoggie Bear" Rader, 61, of Cumberland, died Sunday, Aug. 9, 1998, at his residence.
Born April 9, 1937, near Oldtown, he was the son of the late Albert and Golda (Robertson) Rader. He also was preceded in death by two brothers, Albert Rader and Junior Rader.

Mr. Rader was a truck driver for Cumberland Concrete Co. He was a U.S. Army-Airborne veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was a member of Local 453 Teamsters Union.

Surviving are two sons, Greg A. Ketterman and wife Carol, Wiley Ford, and Ronald R. Ketterman and wife Leslie, Cumberland; one sister, Betty Kallisly, Delaware; 10 grandchildren; his beloved lifetime companion, Faye R. Redinger, Cumberland, and her children, Ruthann Redinger, Cumberland, Shirley Pryor, Flintstone, Audrey Hartman, Gilmore, McKinley Redinger and Jerry Redinger, both of Cumberland; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and beloved pet, Tom.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. with Chaplain Lewis Twigg officiating.

Interment will be in Restlawn Memorial Gardens, LaVale. Military honors will be accorded by the Combined Veterans Honor Guard.

VIRGINIA PAULINE RAILEY
OAKLAND- Virginia Pauline Railey, age 77, of 336 N. Fourth St., Oakland, died Tuesday, Dec. 15, at Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, W.Va.
She was born Feb. 6, 1921, in Sang Run, and was a daughter of the late Vestus C. Friend and Fannie (DeWitt) Friend.

Surviving are her husband, Earle William Railey Sr.; two sons, Earle W. Railey Jr. and Douglas R. Railey, both of Oakland; two daughters, Paula J. Upole, Oakland, and Pamela R. Mallow, Fairmont, W.Va.; one sister, Josephine Rodenhauser, LaVale; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Friends may call at the Durst Funeral Home, Oakland, on Wednesday, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Thursday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Joe Spiker officiating.

Interment will be in the Sang Run cemetery.

BETTY RAINES
WESTERNPORT - Betty Raines, 68, of 237 Greene St., Westernport, died Thursday, Jan. 15, 1998, at the Moran Manor Nursing Home, Westernport.
She was born June 21, 1929 in Beryl, W.Va., the daughter of the late Ellis Knott and Katie (Penford) Knott.

Mrs. Raines was retired from G.C. Murphy Company, Westernport.

She was a member of Bethlehem Chapter #14 Order of the Eastern Star, a member of Victory Unit #155 Ladies Auxiliary, a past president and board member of Tri-Towns Teen Town Inc., and a former Girl Scout leader.

She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Wayne Ocie Raines, Sr. She was a devoted mother to her son, Wayne Ocie Raines, Jr., and wife, Sue Ann, Westernport; a daughter, Brenda J. Jones and husband, Jeff, Frederick; a brother, Everett "Buck" Knott and wife, Patricia, Bloomington; three grandchildren, Jennifer L. Raines, Joseph D. Raines and Ryan R. Jones; two special aunts, Mrs. Lorraine Riley and Mrs. Jean Leatherman, both of Keyser, W.Va.; several nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Mrs. Susie Riley.

Friends will be received at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport, on Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at the Boal Funeral Home with the Rev. Mary Jellison officiating. Interment will be in the Philos cemetery, Westernport.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Memorial Hospital, Cumberland.

The Order of the Eastern Star will hold a memorial service on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

LESTER RAINES
FROSTBURG - Lester Raines, 88, of Hoffman Hollow Road, Frostburg, died Thursday, Oct. 1, 1998, in St. Vincent DePaul Nursing Center, Frostburg.
He was born Jan. 28, 1910, in Red Creek, W.Va., the son of the late Lorenzo Dow and Carrie Viola (Raines) Raines. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by four brothers, Arthur Raines, Blake Raines, Lawrence Raines in infancy, and Bruce Raines; and four sisters, Ruth Raines, Bess Kisamore, Ann Wolford and Laura Ethel Smith.

Mr. Raines was a construction worker retiring from the Laborers Local #616.

Surviving are his wife, Virginia (Silber) Raines; a son, Royce Raines and wife, Janet, Bedford, Pa.; a sister, Jo Harr, Davis, W.Va.; and a brother, Fred Raines, Elyria, Ohio; and two grandchildren, Edward Raines and Susan Raines, both of Bedford.

Friends will be received at the Hafer Chapel of the Hills Mortuary, 1302 National Highway, LaVale, on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. George Harpold officiating.

Interment will follow in Davis Memorial cemetery.

GEORGEANNA C. RALSTON
FROSTBURG - Georgeanna C. Ralston, 79, of 100 Honeysuckle Lane, Frostburg, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, June 27, 1998, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born Sept. 26, 1918, in Eckhart, she was the daughter of the late Frank W. and Anna I. (Nelson) Carter. She also was preceded in death by her husband, George B. Ralston, on June 8, 1974; and two sisters, Shirley Arlene Carter and Fannie Elizabeth Carter.

Mrs. Ralston retired from the Frostburg State University purchasing department in 1979 where she was an account clerk. She was a member of the Eckhart United Methodist Church. She also was a member and Past Matron of the Mountain Chapter 15, Order of the Eastern Star; and a member of the Past Matrons and Patrons of Western Maryland.

Surviving are one son, John C. "Jerry" Ralston Sr. and wife Gail, Frostburg; one grandson, John C. Ralston Jr. and wife Jennifer, Hagerstown; one granddaughter, Shannon M. Imes and husband Rodney, Cumberland; three great-grandchildren, Carter Imes, Carson Imes and Brooke Ralston; one sister Lois Ferree, Eckhart; numerous nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Sage.

Friends will be received at the Durst Funeral Home, 57 Frost Ave., Frostburg, on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

The Order of the Eastern Star will conduct a memorial service Monday at the funeral home at 7:30 p.m.

Funeral and committal services will be conducted at the funeral home on Tuesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. David Sandvick officiating.

Interment will be in the Eckhart cemetery.
