STAKEM SERVICES
MIDLAND - Mass of Christian burial for Thomas Paul Stakem, 78, of 14934 Paradise St., Midland, will be held Thursday at 9:30 a.m. in St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Midland, with Father Ed Hendricks as celebrant. Interment will be at the St. Joseph's Catholic cemetery, Midland.
Friends will be received at the Eichhorn McKenzie Funeral Home, P.A., Lonaconing, on Wednesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.

Among the survivors are a great-nephew, Colin Mills, Bel Air and two great-nieces, Maggie Mills, Midland, and Caitlin Mills, Bel Air.

A Christian Wake service will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. with Sister Joan Maenner, OSF Pastorial Life Director.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials take the form of donations to St. Joseph's Catholic Church.

BRUCE A. STARK
CUMBERLAND - Bruce Alford Stark, 74, of Oldtown, died Wednesday, Dec. 9, 1998, at Memorial Hospital.
Born Jan. 28, 1924, in Jennings, he was the son of the late Claude E. and Orpha Stark.

Mr. Stark was retired from J and L Steel Company, Aliquippa, Pa. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He attended Green Spring Assembly of God Church.

Surviving are his wife, Glenda (Steckman) Stark; one brother, Claude E. Stark, Grantsville; four grandsons, Donnie Steckman, Kris Steckman, Shane Steckman and Zachary Steckman, all of Cumberland.

Friends will be received at Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., on Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Graveside services will be conducted at Davis Memorial cemetery on Friday at noon with the Rev. Fred Parker officiating.

EDGELL L. STARK
PERRY HALL - On June 14, 1998, Edgell L. Stark of Perry Hall, originally of Avilton, passed from his Earthly life.
He was the beloved husband of Grace P. Stark (nee Brenneman), originally from Bittinger; devoted father of Sandra Hart, Parkton, and Alvin Stark, Forest Hill; devoted brother of Ira Stark and Evelyn Robeson, Lonaconing; Rotha Pelto, Vienna, Va., Catherine Corbin, Winter Haven, Fla., and Virginia Kamp, Cleveland, Ohio. He also is survived by four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

GRACE B. STARK
BALTIMORE - Grace Brenneman Stark of Perry Hall died Nov. 4, 1998, at the Greater Baltimore Hospital.
Born Nov. 27, 1921, she was the daughter of Clark Brenneman and Sara Bittinger Brenneman of Bittinger. She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Glen Brenneman, Cresaptown, Bruce Brenneman and Dale Brenneman of Bittinger; and one sister, Helen Dunty, Perry Hall.

She was the beloved wife of the late Edgell Stark.

She was devoted mother of Sandra Hart and Alvin Stark. She is also survived by four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one sister, June Kelley of Cumberland; three brothers, Harry Brenneman, Clinton, Joe Brenneman, Silver Spring, Dean Brenneman, Grantsville.

Friends will be received at the Lassahn Funeral Home, 11750 Belair Road, Baltimore, on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Saturday at 11 a.m.

ELNORA M. STARKEY
FINKSBURG - Elnora Mae Starkey, 75, of Finksburg, died Monday, Aug. 3, 1998, at the Northwest Florida Community Hospital.
Born Nov. 22, 1922, in Lonaconing, she was the daughter of the late George and Mary D. (Holmes) Hadley. She was the wife of the late Charles Edgar Starkey. She also was preceded in death her sons, Charles E. Starkey Jr. and James William Starkey.

Mrs. Starkey had worked for the Girl Scouts of Maryland for many years. She was a member of TOPS of Bonifay, Fla.; Wild Acres Property Owners Association of Mount Falls, Fla.; and AARP.

Surviving are a daughter, Marianne Louise Still, Finksburg; brothers, Douglas Hadley, Boise, Idaho, Carl and Edward Hadley, both of Cumberland, and George Hadley, Salisbury, N.C.; sister Hilda Logan, Bonifay, Fla.; three grandchildren; and two great-grandsons.

Funeral services will be held at the Haight Funeral Home and Chapel, Route 32 between Eldersburg and Sykesville, on Saturday at 10 a.m. with Pastor Donald Haas officiating.

Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Interment will be in the Lorraine Park cemetery, Baltimore.

ROSE F. STARKEY
SWANTON - Rose Frances Starkey, 72, of 874 Lee Road, Swanton, died Saturday, Oct. 10, 1998, at Potomac Valley Hospital, Keyser, W.Va.
Born July 4, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Janie (Lockridge) Wilson. She also was preceded in death by her husband, William D. Starkey; a grandson, Thomas R. Starkey Jr.; and five brothers, Clarence, Earl, Roy, Vernon and Forrest Wilson.

Mrs. Starkey was a homemaker and Pentecostal by faith, having attended the Savage River Full Gospel Church.

Surviving are a son, Thomas R. Starkey and wife Annie, Swanton; a daughter, Mickey F. Westfall and fiance Butch Wilt, Swanton; three sisters, Virginia Pearl Lee, Pennsylvania, Madeline Duckworth and Gladys Shockey, both of Swanton; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport, on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Tuesday at 1 p.m. Interment will be in the Bever cemetery, Backbone Mountain.

JOHN C. STATLER
LAMAR, Colo. - John C. Statler, formerly of Cumberland, Md., and Rockwood, Pa., died Nov. 30, 1997, in Lamar. Funeral services were held on Dec. 6, 1997, at Lamar United Methodist Church.
Mr. Statler was preceded in death by his parents, John A. and Agnes (Conway) Statler. They were former residents of Maryland Avenue in Cumberland.

He graduated in 1937 from Allegany High School, attended Frostburg State Teachers College (FSU), and graduated from Lincoln Memorial University in Harrogate, Tenn., in 1941 with a B.A. degree. He graduated with a LL.D. from the University of Michigan Law School in 1948.

During World War II, he served in the European Theater for 17 months and was separated from the Army as a Captain in August 1945.

Mr. Statler began the practice of law with Alfred Todd in Lemar on Feb. 5, 1949. He was appointed a District Judge by the Governor of Colorado in 1971 and was appointed Chief Judge of the 15th Judicial District in 1983. He retired from that position on Jan. 13, 1987, and continued to serve as a member of the Judiciary through the Senior Judge Program until his death.

Surviving are his loving and devoted wife of 56 years, Jerry (Weakely), formerly of Cumberland; daughters, Sherry and Jan; son, Jack; one sister, Dr. Margaret Blayney; and four grandchildren.

Interment services were held at Fairmount cemetery in La-mar, Colo.

DR. JAMES G. STEELE
FROSTBURG - Dr. James G. Steele, 70, of Frostburg, died Tuesday, April 21, 1998, at Washington Hospital Center, Washington, D.C.
Born Nov. 27, 1927, at Lonaconing, he was the son of the late James and Janet (Gowans) Steele.

Dr. Steele had his own Chiropractic practice in Frostburg. He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church. He was graduated from Central High School, Lonaconing, Frostburg State University, Logan Chiropractic College, and completed graduate work at other colleges.

Dr. Steele was a member of Maryland State Chiropractic Association serving in all offices including president; the American Chiropractic Association where he was Research Director and was a published author. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving in the U.S. Army.

Surviving are his wife, Dr. Eileen (Brinker) Steele; two sons, Major William Steele, with the U.S. Army in Pittsburgh, Pa., and John Steele, Frostburg; several grandchildren; and one sister, Margaret Hoeber, California.

Friends will be received at the Sowers Funeral Home, P.A., 60 West Main St., Frostburg, on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Michael's Church on Friday at 10 a.m. with Father Paul A. Byrnes as celebrant.

The body will then be cremated.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Michael's School.
