RICHARD P. STEPHENS
WESTERNPORT - Richard P. Stephens, age 72, of Westernport, died Sunday in Winchester Medical Center after a brief illness.
Born in Westernport, Aug. 9, 1925, he was the son of the late Frank and Nellie Stephens.

Mr. Stephens was a devoted husband and father to his wife and children, setting an example of integrity, care and service. A quiet and gentle Christian man, he gave his time unselfishly to many church and civic causes. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Piedmont, W.Va., where he served as a trustee, usher, member of the administrative board and the Men's Bible Class, and president of the United Methodist Men. Over the years he gave his time to such causes as PTA, Scouting, Crop Walk, St. Jude's Bike-a-thon, Community Clean-up, Band Boosters, the Tri-Towns Food Bank, Westernport Heritage Society and the Burlington Children's Home.

He served in the United States Army during World War II as a medic in the 16th Armored Division and was a member of the Victory Post 155 American Legion, Queen's Point Memorial Post Veterans of Foreign Wars and Fort Washington Chapter 2 Disabled American Veterans.

After retiring from Westvaco in 1991 with 43 years of service, Mr. Stephens busied himself with gardening, grandchildren and cheering his family on in their various pursuits. He was a hero to his children and a faithful friend to those who knew him.

Richard is survived by his wife of 50 years, the former Alice Harvey; three sons, Richard Terry Stephens, Keyser, Donald F. Stephens, Kona, Hawaii, Robert T. Stephens, Oakland; one daughter, Vicki L. Stephens, Virginia Beach, Va.; two brothers, Donald Stephens, Westernport, and Paul Stevens, Cumberland; one sister, Ardath Lupis, Westernport; and six grandchildren, R. Douglas, Brendan and Kimberly Stephens, Oakland, and Kristopher, Matthew and Tyler Stephens, Keyser. He was preceded in death by one brother, Denzil Stevens, Clarksburg, W.Va.

Friends will be received at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport, on Tuesday, April 14, from 7 to 9 p.m., and on Wednesday, April 15, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

A service of Christian Celebration will be held at Trinity United Methodist Church, Piedmont, on Thursday, April 16, at 11 a.m., by the Rev. Joseph Jarrett and the Rev. Meredith Ball.

Interment will be in the Philos cemetery, Westernport, where full military honors will be accorded at graveside.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Burlington Children's Home, or to Trinity United Methodist Church, Piedmont.

ANNE MARIE STEVENS
FROSTBURG - Anne Marie Stevens, 44, of 145 S. Water St., Frostburg, died Sunday, May 10, 1998, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born April 21, 1954, in Placentia Canada, Newfoundland, she was the daughter of the late John R. and Anna M. (Quilty) Hartley.

Mrs. Stevens was Catholic by faith, and had attended the Frostburg Church of the Nazarene. She was a homemaker.

Surviving are her husband of 22 years, Kenneth C. Stevens; two daughters, Lori Stevens, and Kelli Stevens, both at home; seven sisters, Mary, Newfoundland, Camellia, Newfoundland, Jackie, Canada, Sheila, Canada, Janet, Canada, Yvonne, Kaukauna, Wisc., and Doris, Williamsburg, Va.; two brothers, Dennis, Newfoundland, and Richard, Canada; mother-in-law, Virlen Stevens, Frostburg; and 21 nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at the Durst Funeral Home, 57 Frost Ave., Frostburg, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Wednesday at noon with the Rev. Fr. Paul Byrnes officiating.

Interment will be in the Zion Methodist Church cemetery, Route 40.

GAYLE STEVENS
LAUREL - Gayle (Hollen) Stevens, 56, of Laurel, formerly of Cumberland, died Monday, Jan. 12, 1998.
She was the daughter of Mary Jane (Fleckenstein) Hollen of Cumberland and the late Edgar L. Hollen, Sr.

Surviving are her husband, James E. Stevens; children, Erin Rogers and Brett Stevens; grandson, Ryan Rogers, all of Laurel; two brothers, Donald J. Hollen, Burtonsville, and Edgar L. Hollen, Jr., Cumberland; two sisters, Jane L. Snyder and Denise M. Wilson, Cumberland; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at the Fleck Funeral Home, 7601 Sandy Spring Rd., Laurel, on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday at 10 a.m.

ALMER "RED" STEVENSON
SWANTON - Almer "Red" Stevenson, 80, of Savage River Road, Swanton, died Sept. 29, 1998, at Page Memorial Hospital, Luray, Va.
Born at Lonaconing on Dec. 4, 1917, he was a son of the late Albert Stevenson and Flora (McFarland) Stevenson.

He was a retired millwright from Westvaco Corporation after 40 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

Surviving are his wife, Elizabeth Mooney (Phillips) Stevenson; one daughter, Sandra Elizabeth Martin, Hagerstown; four sons, Gordon Albert Stevenson and wife, Margaret, Luray, James Almer Stevenson, Frostburg, Thomas Eugene Stevenson and wife, Paula J., Martinsburg, W.Va., Robert Nelson Stevenson, Baltimore; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

Friends will be received on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Eichhorn-McKenzie Funeral Home, P.A., 8 East Main St., Lonaconing.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Friday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Richard Mortimore officiating.

Interment will be in the Rocky Gap Veterans cemetery near Cumberland.

EDWARD F. STEVENSON
STAUNTON, Va. - Edward Frank Stevenson, 55, of 24 North Jefferson St., Staunton, died at 8:40 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 19, 1998, in the Augusta Medical Center, Fisherville.
He was born on Feb. 28, 1942, in Havre De Grace, Md., a son of Mary Naomi (Fulton) Stevenson, Perryville, Md., and the late Frank Edward Stevenson.

Mr. Stevenson was employed by Leland Memorial Hospital of Riverdale, Md., from 1965 until March 1993. He transferred to Washington Adventist Hospital in Takoma Park, Md., until Oct. 26, 1996. Then he worked two months in Shenandoah Valley Academy.

He was a former member of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church of Cumberland, Md.

In addition to his mother, survivors include his wife, Betty Jean Stevenson; a son, Reginald Frank Stevenson, Staunton; three grandchildren, Joshua, Deborah and Michael Stevenson; two brothers, Paul Stevenson, Owings Mills, Md., and Wayne Stevenson, Perryville, Md.; and a sister, Florence Heck, Nottingham, Pa.

A service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday in the Seventh-Day Adventist Church, 800 Hill Top Drive, Cumberland, by the Pastor Brian Savage. Burial will follow in the Sunset Memorial Park, Cumberland.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday in the Henry Funeral Home, Staunton, and one hour prior to the service at the Seventh-Day Adventist Church, Cumberland.

BETTY H. STEWART
CUMBERLAND - Betty H. Stewart, 69, of Valley Road, Cumberland, died Friday, Jan. 30, 1998, at Memorial Hospital, Cumberland.
Born Nov. 8, 1928, in Oakland, she was the daughter of the late Frank Edward Nair and Lillian Victoria (Ohaver) White. She also was preceded in death by one son, Daniel Lee Stewart; one grandson, Dorsey Dailey Hebb; five sisters; and five brothers.

Mrs. Stewart was a homemaker and a devoted wife and mother.

Surviving are her husband, Albert D. "Bud" Stewart; two daughters, Vickie A. Hebb and husband, Dorsey, Cumberland; Cynthia J. (Collins) Weslow and husband, William, Frostburg; one brother, Harold "Fish" Nair and wife, Betty, Cumberland; seven grandchildren, April Hebb, Vickie Lynn Hebb, Cynthia Collins Gamble and husband, Kevin, Melissa Weslow, Tiffany Weslow, Daniel Stewart, Jr., and William Stewart; and one great-grandson, Kevin Gamble, Jr.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Avenue, on Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Monday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Tuesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. George M. Harpold officiating.

Pallbearers will be Jeremy McCusker, Bill Weslow, Steve Johnson, Kevin Gamble, David Nair and Richard Nair.

Interment will be in Rest Lawn Memorial Gardens, LaVale.

The family would like to send out a special thanks to the doctors and nurses at Memorial Hospital and to the Bowman's Addition Volunteer Fire Department.

CHARLES H. STEWART
CUMBERLAND - Charles Howard Stewart, 92, of 217 Columbia Street, Cumberland, died Friday, Dec. 25, 1998, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born June 21, 1906, in Elkins, W.Va., he was the son of the late Charles C. Stewart and Josephine (Batt) Stewart.

Mr. Stewart is survived by his wife, Mary (Fisher) Stewart; one son, Charles R. Stewart, Cumberland; one daughter, Mary Jo Mooney and husband, Hugh, Perris, Calif.; one brother, James E. Stewart, Cumberland; one sister, Vivian Ott, Cumberland; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

Friends will be received on Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Leasure-Stein Funeral Home, Baltimore Avenue, Cumberland.

Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Lloyd B. McCanna officiating.

Interment will be in the Centenary cemetery, Cumberland.
