VIVIAN E. WALTERS
FROSTBURG - Vivian E. Walters, 76, of Frostburg, died Sunday, Oct. 11, 1998, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born Feb. 7, 1922, in Burlington, Iowa, she was the daughter of the late John and Gertrude (Wanner) Walter. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Alvin J. Walters, in 1969; one son, Thomas Walters, in 1983; two sisters, Elaine Norris and Verna McLaury; and one son-in-law, Donald A. Smith, in 1997.

Mrs. Walters was a member of Frostburg United Methodist Church, a volunteer at Frostburg Village Nursing Home, and a member of the Senior Citizens Bowling League.

Surviving are two sons, Brad Walters and wife, Randi, Eldersburg, and Hugh Walters, Catonsville; two daughters, Susan Smith, Frostburg, and Terri Gibbons and husband, Jim, Vienna, Va.; nine grandchildren, Todd Smith, Tracy Smith Tollefson-Kuhn and husband, Brian Kuhn, Dustin, Samantha and Paige Walters, Padraig, Brendan and Colleen Gibbons, and Devon Walters; three great-grandchildren, Derek Smith, Jessika and Zakary Tollefson; two step great-grandchildren, Sarah and Danny Kuhn; and two brothers, Robert Walters, Phoenix, Ariz., and Jack Walter and wife, Gloria, Irvine, Calif.

Friends will be received at the Sowers Funeral Home, P.A., 60 W. Main St., Frostburg, on Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the Frostburg United Methodist Church on Thursday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. George A. Aist officiating. The body will be taken to the church at noon.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Steeple Fund, Frostburg United Methodist Church.

Friends will be received at the Sowers Funeral Home, P.A., 60 W. Main St., Frostburg, on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted at Frostburg United Methodist Church on Thursday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. George A. Aist officiating. The body will be taken to the church at noon.

Interment will be in Frostburg Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be Jim Gibbons, Bob Schweers, Bob McLaury, Bill DeVore, Dave DeVore and Craig Workman.

Honorary pallbearers will be Arvil Garlitz, William Day, Charles Glover, Michael Martin, Jack Armstrong and Dr. Leslie R. Miles.

EDWIN S. WALTHALL
OAKLAND - Edwin S. Walthall, 45, of North Third Street, Oakland, died Saturday, March 14, 1998, at the Presbyterian Hospital, Pittsburgh, Pa.
Born April 11, 1952, in Denton, Texas, he is the son of the Rev. W. Shelby Walthall, Myrtle Beach, S.C., and the late Anna G. (Shea) Walthall.

He was a graduate of Southern High School, Class of 1970, attended the New York School of Visual Arts, and was a member of St. Matthew's Episcopal Church, Oakland. He served as the news director of WMSG-AM and WXIE-FM radio stations for several years until he became the executive director of the Deep Creek Lake-Garrett County Promotion Council. After ten years he retired as director in 1978 and became a manager for Alpine Village Inc. He also was a past president of the promotion council and in 1997 was named the honorary golden ambassador of the annual Autumn Glory Festival.

In addition to his father, he is survived by his wife, Diana (Lascaris) Walthall; two sons, Matthew R. Walthall and Nicholas A. Walthall, both at home; and one brother, Hugh W. Walthall, Washington, D.C.

Friends will be received at the Stewart Funeral Home, Oakland, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday. Services will be held at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church on Thursday, March 19, 1998, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Fr. Chip Lee and the Rev. Fr. Thomas Staup officiating. Interment will be in the Garrett County Memorial Gardens, Oakland.

The family requests that memorials take the form of contributions to the Thomas E. Starzel Transplant Institute, Falk Clinic, University of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh, PA 15213.

AMIE R. WARD
TYLER, Texas - Amie R. Ward, 95, of Tyler, Texas, formerly of Mount Savage, Md., died Thursday, March 12, 1998, at Tyler Nursing Home.
Born May 14, 1902, in Mount Savage, Md., she was the daughter of the late Clement and Diana (Schutz) Reidler. She also was preceded in death by her husband, George C. Ward, in 1975.

Mrs. Ward was a homemaker who lived in Mount Savage and Cumberland, Md., for 51 years before moving to Charlotte, N.C., where she resided for 27 years, and finally moving to Tyler, Texas, where she lived for 18 years. She was a lifelong member of the St. Georges Episcopal Church, Mount Savage, Md.

Surviving are one son, George A. Ward; four grandchildren, Karen and Dr. Charles Heaton, George and Kim Ward, all of Tyler, Dr. Amie Sue Ward and Charles Smith, New York City, N.Y., Thomas and Leslie Ward, Nachitoches, La.; and seven great-grandchildren.

There will be a graveside service held at the St. George's Episcopal cemetery, Mount Savage, Md., on Wednesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Alice D. Babin officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to the St. George's Episcopal Church, 12811 St. George Lane, Mount Savage, MD 21545.

Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., is in charge of arrangements.

VIRGINIA R. WARD
LAVALE - Virginia Rose Ward, 85, of LaVale, died Friday, Nov. 20, 1998, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born March 11, 1913, in Elk Garden, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Philmore and Elizabeth (Ross) White. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Gray Ward Sr.

Surviving are a son, Thomas Gray Ward Jr., Reston, Va.; a daughter, Rebecca Ward Smith, Ballston Spa, N.Y.; and six grandchildren. Mrs. Ward was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

At Mrs. Ward's request, her body will be cremated.

Memorial services will be held at a later date at the LaVale Baptist Church with Pastor Doug Strother officiating.

Inurnment will be held in the Queens Point cemetery.

The Hafer Chapel of the Hills Mortuary, 1302 National Highway, LaVale, is in charge of arrangements.

CHRISTAL Z. WARNE
FROSTBURG - Christal Z. (Ferree) Warne, 35, of 15625 National Pike, Frostburg, Garrett County, died Wednesday, Aug. 12, 1998, at Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, W.Va.
Born Aug. 19, 1962, in Meyersdale, Pa., she was a daughter of John "Jack" and Tressia (Wilburn) Ferree, Frostburg.

Mrs. Warne was a member of Mount Zion United Methodist Church. She graduated cum laude from Frostburg State University with a B.S. degree in Social Work and cum laude from West Virginia University with an M.S. degree in Social Work. She previously worked for thee years with Hampshire County Child Protective Services and for the last 11 years as a social worker for Allegany County Department of Social Services.

An accomplished equestrian, she was a member of Mountain Top Saddle Club, American Quarterhorse Association, and Northern West Virginia Quarterhorse Association.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by her husband, Stephen A. Warne; and a sister, Kimberly Ferree Miller.

Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., Grantsville, on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted on Saturday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home with Pastor Steve Lightner and Deacon Michael K. Carroll officiating.

Interment will be in Grantsville cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Ron Kling, Tom Savage, John Ackerman, Chet McNabb, Doug Wechbacher, Paul Harman, Steve Wilhelm and Dennis Sipple.

Expressions of sympathy may be directed to Mountain Top Saddle Club.

RONALD C. WARNE SR.
CRESAPTOWN - Ronald Charles Warne Sr., 58, of Winchester Road, Cresaptown, died Monday, Oct. 5, 1998, at Reading Hospital, Reading, Pa.
Born Aug. 26, 1940, in Grantsville, he was the son of the late Paul and Virginia Stark. He also was preceded in death by his wife, LaDonna Jean (Dicken) Warne, on Oct. 27, 1996.

Mr. Warne was a truck driver and was employed by D&W; Trucking.

Surviving are a stepson, Gerald Dicken, Cumberland; a son, Ronald Charles Warne Jr., Bear, Del.; two daughters, Brenda Bass, Laurel, and Tammy Toman, College Park; five grandchildren; and three step-grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the Hafer Chapel of the Hills Mortuary, 1302 National Highway, LaVale, on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Funeral services will be conducted in the funeral home chapel on Friday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Father Reginald Russo officiating.

Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Park, Cumberland.
