HAZEL S. WALIZER
CORRIGANVILLE - Hazel S. Walizer, 84, of Corriganville, died Wednesday, Jan. 14, 1998, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland.
Born Aug. 8, 1913, in Ellerslie, she was the daughter of the late John L. Lepley and Bertha (Crawford) Lepley.

Surviving are her husband, Leo Melvin Walizer; two sons, Frank Walizer and wife Elaine, Laurel, and Royce Walizer, Fort Ashby, W.Va.; and four grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the Leasure-Stein Funeral Home, 230 Baltimore Ave., Cumberland, on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Funeral services and interment will be private.

LEWIS P. WALKER
FORT WASHINGTON - Lewis Pierson Walker, 70, retired from the U.S. Department of Education's Office of Educational Research and Improvement since 1994, died Sept. 7, 1998, at Washington Hospital Center after complications from heart surgery.
Mr. Walker, who lived in Fort Washington, was born April 27, 1928, in Cumberland, and was a graduate of Allegany High School and West Virginia University. He served as an officer in the United States Army Signal Corps, a counselor and high school principal. He completed a full career in the U.S. Department of Education, where he worked first with administering innovative projects, then in research and information services. He was an active member of Oxon Hill United Methodist Church and a volunteer with Prince Georges Library Systems.

Surviving are his wife, Ann, and daughter, Susan Schuppert, both of Fort Washington; a brother, Douglas Walker, Herndon, Va.; a sister, Joann Lindeman, Ashville, N.C.; nieces and nephews; and a family of supportive friends.

Viewing will be held at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 6160 Oxon Hill Road, Oxon Hill, Thursday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted at Oxon Hill United Methodist Church, 6400 Livingston Road, Oxon Hill, Friday, Sept. 11, at 11 a.m.

Interment will be in the Resurrection cemetery, Clinton.

SUSANNA E. WALKER
FROSTBURG - Susanna Elizabeth Walker, age 81, of St. Vincent DePaul Nursing Center, died Friday, April 24, 1998, at Sacred Heart Hospital Hospice Unit.
Born Dec. 31, 1916, in Newburg, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Edgar H. and Bertha (Sanders) Parks. She also was preceded in death by her husband, John Oliver Walker, in 1968, and was the last of her immediate family.

Mrs. Walker was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church, Frostburg, and the Farrady Unit #24 American Legion. She was formerly employed by the Celanese Fibers Corporation, Modern Methods, G.C. Murphy Company, and Human Resources Development Center in the Seniors Program at the Frostburg Community Center. She had a radio program with WTBO in the early '30s called "Bobbie and Sue The Harmony Two." She and her husband were instrumental in organizing the original Teen Town in Frostburg in the '50s, and for many years was active in the Women's Republican Club.

Surviving are two sons, John E. Walker and wife, Janice, Frostburg, and Robert J. Walker and wife, Sandra, Gaithersburg; two daughters, Barbara K. McFarland and husband, James, Frostburg, and Sue Ann Thorpe and husband, George, Nokesville, Va.; nine grandchildren, John D. Walker, Stevensville, Tracey Cohee, Ridgeley, W.Va., Kimberly Cox, Davidsonville, Cynthia S. Diamond, Frostburg, Elyse J. Walker, Gaithersburg, Jennifer A. Himer, Jeannie L. Howell, and Georganne M. Thorpe, all of Nokesville, Va.; seven great-grandchildren, Kristen and Kyle Walker, Nicholas, Elizabeth and Olivia Diamond, and Kaitlyn and Connor Cox; four step-grandchildren; and six step-great-grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the Durst Funeral Home, 57 Frost Ave., Frostburg, on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Monday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Fr. Edward Chapman officiating. Interment will be in the Frostburg Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be John D. Walker, William A. Walker, Brent Cohee, Robert Cox, James Diamond, Zach Himer, Anthony Howell and Joey Adams.

The family requests memorials be directed to St. John's Episcopal Church, 58 Broadway, Frostburg, MD 21532.

SYLVESTER F. WALKER
CUMBERLAND - Sylvester F. "Wes" Walker, 75, of 512 Pine Ave., Cumberland, died Wednesday, March 18, 1998, at Memorial Hospital.
Born Jan. 19, 1923, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late James A. Walker and the late Helena Mae (Miller) Walker. He also was preceded in death by three brothers, Harold, James and Donald K.; and three sisters, Charlotte Rose Null, Elsie Davis and Pansy Hall.

Mr. Walker was a retired employee of the Western Maryland Railroad as a brakeman. He was a member of the Cumberland Eagles Aerie 245; VFW Henry Hart Post 1411; Fort Cumberland Post 13, American Legion; D.A. Vets, Fort Washington Post 2; and United Trainmen's Union 1852. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He also was a former member of St. Mary's Catholic Church.

Surviving are two daughters, Margaret "Diannia" Breighner and husband LeRoy, Long Beach, Miss., and Virginia "Penny" James and husband Garland, Cumberland; four grandchildren, LeRoy M. Breighner II, Penny James, Ginny James and Garland James II; and three great-grandchildren, Carrie, Kristopher and Julie James.

Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday at 9:30 a.m. with Father Milton A. Hipsley officiating.

Interment will be in the Maryland State Veterans cemetery at Rocky Gap. Military honors will be accorded at the graveside by the Combined Veteran Honor Guard.

P. GRACE WALLIS
CUMBERLAND - Pauline Grace Wallis, 92, formally of 751 Fayette St., Cumberland, died Tuesday, June 30, 1998, at the Allegany County Nursing Home.
Born Nov. 5, 1905, in Rawlings, she was the daughter of the late Robert C. Wilson and the late Lillie (Stotler) Wilson. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Grafton "Windy" Wallis, on March 6, 1986; and several brothers and sisters.

Mrs. Wallis was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Cumberland Elks Lodge 63; Cumberland Chapter 56, Order of the Eastern Star; and the Elks Bowling League. She was a graduate of Frostburg Normal School and taught one year at the Little Orleans School, a one-room school. She was a volunteer for more than 50 years at Memorial Hospital for which she was awarded the Governor's Volunteer Award in 1989.

Surviving are a sister, Mary King Sleeman and husband Kenneth, Rockville; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. John J. Duffus officiating.

Interment will be in the Mount Olivet cemetery, Frederick.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Memorial Hospital.

IRVING "TURK" L. WALTERS
LONACONING - Irvin "Turk" L. Walters, 89, of the Egle Nursing Home, Lonaconing, formerly of 88 E. Main St., Lonaconing, died Tuesday, Dec. 30, 1997, at the nursing home.
Born March 10, 1908, in Gilmore, he was a son of the late Richard Walters and Mahaley (Coleman) Walters.

Mr. Walters was a retired railroad trackman for the Western Maryland Railroad, and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of the First Assembly of God Church, Lonaconing, for more than 20 years.

Surviving are his wife, Betty Jane (Stewart) Walters; and a daughter, Priscillia Ritchey, LaVale.

Friends will be received at the Eichhorn-McKenzie Funeral Home, P.A., Lonaconing, on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be held at the funeral home on Saturday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Madeline Cook officiating.

Interment will be in the Frostburg Memorial Park, Frostburg.

Pallbearers will be Roger Ritchey, Michael Beeman, Donnie Bennett, Leroy Day, Tony DigGraziano and Nick DigGraziano.

VIVIAN E. WALTERS
FROSTBURG - Vivian E. Walters, 76, of Frostburg, died Sunday, Oct. 11, 1998, at Sacred Heart Hospital.

Born Feb. 7, 1922, in Burlington, Iowa, she was the daughter of the late John and Gertrude (Wanner) Walter. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Alvin J. Walters, in 1969; one son, Thomas Walters, in 1983; two sisters, Elaine Norris and Verna McLaury; and one son-in-law, Donald A. Smith, in 1997.

Mrs. Walters was a member of Frostburg United Methodist Church, a volunteer at Frostburg Village Nursing Home, and a member of the Senior Citizens Bowling League.

Surviving are two sons, Brad Walters and wife, Randi, Eldersburg, and Hugh Walters, Catonsville; two daughters, Susan Smith, Frostburg, and Terri Gibbons and husband, Jim, Vienna, Va.; nine grandchildren, Todd Smith, Tracy Smith Tollefson-Kuhn and husband, Brian Kuhn, Dustin, Samantha and Paige Walters, Padraig, Brendan and Colleen Gibbons, and Devon Walters; three great-grandchildren, Derek Smith, Jessika and Zakary Tollefson; two step great-grandchildren, Sarah and Danny Kuhn; and two brothers, Robert Walters, Phoenix, Ariz., and Jack Walter and wife, Gloria, Irvine, Calif.

Friends will be received at the Sowers Funeral Home, P.A., 60 W. Main St., Frostburg, on Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the Frostburg United Methodist Church on Thursday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. George A. Aist officiating. The body will be taken to the church at noon.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Steeple Fund, Frostburg United Methodist Church.
