EDWIN S. WALTHALL
OAKLAND - Edwin S. Walthall, 45, of North Third Street, Oakland, died Saturday, March 14, 1998, at the Presbyterian Hospital, Pittsburgh, Pa.
Born April 11, 1952, in Denton, Texas, he is the son of the Rev. W. Shelby Walthall, Myrtle Beach, S.C., and the late Anna G. (Shea) Walthall.

He was a graduate of Southern High School, Class of 1970, attended the New York School of Visual Arts, and was a member of St. Matthew's Episcopal Church, Oakland. He served as the news director of WMSG-AM and WXIE-FM radio stations for several years until he became the executive director of the Deep Creek Lake-Garrett County Promotion Council. After ten years he retired as director in 1978 and became a manager for Alpine Village Inc. He also was a past president of the promotion council and in 1997 was named the honorary golden ambassador of the annual Autumn Glory Festival.

In addition to his father, he is survived by his wife, Diana (Lascaris) Walthall; two sons, Matthew R. Walthall and Nicholas A. Walthall, both at home; and one brother, Hugh W. Walthall, Washington, D.C.

Friends will be received at the Stewart Funeral Home, Oakland, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday. Services will be held at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church on Thursday, March 19, 1998, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Fr. Chip Lee and the Rev. Fr. Thomas Staup officiating. Interment will be in the Garrett County Memorial Gardens, Oakland.

The family requests that memorials take the form of contributions to the Thomas E. Starzel Transplant Institute, Falk Clinic, University of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh, PA 15213.

ALICE PORTER TURNER WALTON
BOSTON, Mass. - Alice Porter Turner Walton, 101, of Boston, died Friday, May 1, 1998, of an aneurysm at Beth Israel Hospital where she had been taken that day.
Born in Boston, June 19, 1896, she was the daughter of the late Adolphus O. Turner and Laura Ann Jones Turner. She also was preceded in death by her husband, George Alexander Walton Sr.; her son, George Alexander Walton Jr.; and her sister, A. Louise Turner Monroe.

Surviving are two daughters, Jeanne Louise Walton, Fort Ashby, W.Va., and Alice Walton Emerson, of the home in Brighton, Mass.; a niece, Frances Monroe King, Cleveland, Ohio; two grand-nephews; three grand-nieces; several great-grand-nieces and nephews; and one great-great-grand-nephew.

Mrs. Walton graduated cum laude from Howard University in Washington, D.C., in 1916. Upon her return to Boston she worked for the Boston Public Schools, The Boston Chronicle Newspaper, the WPA Writers' Project, The Urban League, and the Boston City Printing Department. She was a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, a Shakespeare aficionado, a participant in amateur dramatics, an expert seamstress, and an avid walker in her younger years. A voracious reader and lover of words, Mrs. Walton was reading, solving cryptograms and double acrostic puzzles and playing scrabble up to the day of her death.

Decades ago, Mrs. Walton had willed her body to Harvard Medical School. In 1955 she was a founding member of the Ethical Society of Boston and was an active contributor for over 40 years. The Society will hold a memorial service for her on Sunday, June 14, at 12:30 p.m. at Longy School of Music, 1 Follen St., Cambridge, Mass.

WILLIAM E. YANTZ
WINCHESTER, Va. - William E. Yantz, 81, Winchester, formerly of Rawlings, Md., died Monday, April 27, 1998, at Memorial Hospital, Cumberland, Md.
Born Dec. 26, 1916, in Piedmont, W.Va., he was the son of the late Oscar R. and Mary Ellen (Skimore) Yantz. He was preceded in death by one brother, Oscar; and three sisters, Mary Virginia, Hazel and Betty.

Mr. Yantz was retired from the General Motors Plant in Baltimore, Md. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a 1937 graduate of Barton High School and a member of the V.F.W. Victor Sisler Post.

Surviving are his wife, Maitress V. (Trenum) Yantz; and several nieces and nephews.

At Mr. Yantz's request there will be no visitation or funeral service.

Interment will be in Maryland Veterans cemetery at Rocky Gap.

Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, is in charge of the arrangements.

MARY J. YEAGER
CUMBERLAND - Mary J. (DeLuca) Yeager, of Cumberland, went to be with her loved ones and her Lord on Wednesday, March 4, 1998, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Nellie (Molinari) DeLuca. She also was preceded in death by her husbands, Dominick J. Cimmino, David M. Caporale, and John J. Yeager; one daughter, Doris J. Daugherty; one sister, Viola Dicken; and one brother, Samuel DeLuca.

Before retiring, Mary was owner of Cimmino's Restaurant, and co-owner and operator of Dave Caporale's Bakery. She was a member of the Birthday Girls, and she was Catholic by faith.

Surviving are one daughter, Mary Louis Donaldson and husband John, Cumberland; one sister, Lena Belfoure, Cumberland; one sister-in-law, Alberta Cimmino, Cumberland; six grandchildren, Doma Jean Bowman and husband Steve, Cumberland, S. Sgt. James H. Wrachford Jr. and wife Dara, U.S. Air Force, Panama, Mary Beth Dicken and husband James, Cumberland, Mervin Daugherty and wife Kim, Easton, Douglas Daugherty and spouse Phil, San Francisco, and Danny Daugherty, Baltimore; seven great-grandchildren including two, Todd and Kelsie Dicken, who brought a special smile to her lips and filled her heart with love daily; one special son, Gus Caporale and wife Cindy, Cumberland; and several nieces from Pittsburgh.

At Mrs. Yeager's request, her body will be donated to science.

A memorial service will be held at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, on Saturday at noon. Friends will be received one hour prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the American Red Cross, 400 Cumberland St., Cumberland, MD 21502.

RAY M. YODER
GRANTSVILLE - Ray M. Yoder, 83, formerly of Hemlock Drive, Grantsville, died Wednesday, March 25, 1998, at the Goodwill Mennonite Home, Grantsville.
Born June 11, 1914, in Elk Lick Township, Pa., he was a son of the late Monroe D. and Amelia (Yoder) Yoder. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Amelia (Yoder) Yoder, on Jan. 6, 1989; a grandson, Beldon Ray Maust; two brothers, Floyd M. Yoder and Olen M. Yoder; and a sister, Elizabeth Beitzel.

Mr. Yoder was a member of Maple Glen Mennonite Church, and supported the church by serving on the trustee board and on the food committee for the congregation. He also served as a member of the Goodwill Mennonite Home board. After retiring from farming, he taxied for Amish families.

Surviving are a son, Ernest R. Yoder and wife Doris (Bender), Grantsville; a daughter, Leanora A. Maust and husband Francis C., Lebanon, Pa.; a brother, Norman M. Yoder, Grantsville; a sister, Alta Bender, Accident; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Home, Grantsville, on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted on Saturday at 2 p.m. at Maple Glen Mennonite Church with the Rev. Ivan Maust and the Rev. Philip Moser officiating. The body will be taken to the church one hour prior to the services.

Interment will be in the church cemetery with the Rev. Robert Yoder officiating. Nephews will serve as pallbearers.

Expressions of sympathy may be directed to the Hospice of Garrett County.

CHRISTINE AMELIA YOUNG
MCHENRY - Christine Amelia Young, 90, of 50 John Young Parkway, McHenry, died Friday, June 19, 1998, at her residence.
Born April 9, 1908, in Monesson, Pa., she was a daughter of the late John and Emma (Hoss) Hoffman. She also was preceded in death by her husband, John D. Young.

She is survived by a niece, Carol Kolsti, Austin, Texas; two nephews, Harry M. Schaub, Costa Mesa, Calif., and John H. Schaub, Phoenix, Ariz.

Memorial services will be conducted at the Newman Funeral Home, McHenry, on Saturday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Dennis Leatherman officiating.

Interment will be on Monday at 2 p.m. at Woodlawn cemetery, Wilkinsburg, Pa.

KATHLEEN "KITTY" RYAN YOUNG
DAMASCUS - Kathleen "Kitty" Ryan Young, 67, retired from Fairchild Industries, Germantown, in 1988, died of primary pulmonary hypertension at home in Damascus, on Tuesday, Dec. 22, 1998.
Born on Feb. 24, 1931, she was predeceased by her parents, Helen Walsh Ryan and Milton "Pat" Ryan.

Mrs. Young was a graduate of St. Jerome's Catholic elementary school, Hamburg Street, Baltimore, and The Catholic High School, Baltimore.

Prior to her marriage in 1952 she was employed by the F.B.I. and the Baltimore News American.

Surviving are her devoted husband of 46 years, Paul H. Young; 12 children and 17 grandchildren, Paul Jr., Gail, and daughter Elizabeth, Gaithersburg; Stephen, Louise and daughters, Jasmine and Kristine, Crystal River, Fla.; Matthew Young, PhD, Alvera and son, David, Ijamsville; William, Kathleen and children Sara and Adam, Waldorf; Mary Jane Young Treado, Christopher and children, Jackie, Kelly and Nicholas, Leesburg, Va.; Timothy and Virginia, Gaithersburg; Rhonda and son Max, Silver Spring; Mary Beth Young Trivilino, Alan and children Alex and Hannah, Pittsburgh, Pa.; Kevin, Kathy and daughters Lindsey and Casey, High Point, N.C.; Margaret Young Johns, Greg, and son Ryan, Richmond, Va.; David, Audrey and sons Gates and Brooks, Vienna, Va.; and Kathleen Young, Damascus. Also surviving are sisters Patricia Ryan Gillis and Joanne Ryan Rinker; and brothers, James and John.

Friends may call on Sunday, Dec. 27, 1998, at the St. Pauls Catholic Church, 9250 Damascus Road, Damascus, from 2 to 5 p.m., where a Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, Dec. 28, at 10 a.m.

Interment will be in St. Johns Catholic cemetery, Frederick.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions should be made to the St. Pauls Catholic Church Building Fund, 9250 Damascus Road, Damascus, MD 20872.

The Olin L. Molesworth, P.A., Funeral Home, Damascus, is in charge of arrangements.

RUTH YOUNG
WESTERNPORT - Ruth Young, 65, of Geyer Drive Road, Wapakoneta, Ohio, died Tuesday, May 26, 1998, at her residence.
Born July 1, 1932, in Westernport, she was the daughter of the late William and Erma (Miller) Brashear. On Nov. 25, 1948, she married George A. Young, who died on Sept. 7, 1994. She also was preceded in death by three brothers, Wayne, Billie and David Brashear; and one sister, Betty Jose.

Mrs. Young was a homemaker.

Surviving are six sons, Michael Young and wife Teresa, Kingman, Ariz., William Young and wife Linda, Lima, Ohio, John Young and wife Lily, Wapakoneta, David Young and wife Karen, Delphos, Ohio, George Young II and wife Molly, Wapakoneta, and Darryl Young and wife Theresa, Botkins, Ohio; one daughter, Karen Niswonger and husband James, DeGraff, Ohio; four brothers, Donald Brashear, Barton, Paul Brashear, Roger Brashear and Tim Brashear, all of Westernport; three sisters, Retha Miller and Faye Spencer, both of Keyser, W.Va., and Gloria Jean Syromi, Baltimore; one sister-in-law, Lola Brashear, Westernport; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport, on Sunday, May 31, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Monday, June 1, at 10:30 a.m. by the Rev. George R. Loar.

Interment will follow in the Miller cemetery, Stoney Run.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
