PAUL E. GREEN
LONACONING - Paul Ellsworth "Taters" Green, 72, of Lana Lu Apartments, Lonaconing, died Saturday, March 22, 1997, at Memorial Hospital, Cumberland.
Born April 15, 1924, at Lonaconing, he was a son of the late Orland and Margaret (Monahan) Green.
Mr. Green was a retired taxi driver from Michigan. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of World War II, and was of the Catholic faith.
Surviving are one sister, Veronica Lapp, Cresaptown; and three brothers, Leon Green, Florida, Francis Green and Joseph Green, Lonaconing.
Friends will be received at the Eichhorn-McKenzie Funeral Home, Lonaconing, on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Monday at 10 a.m. with Sr. Marietta Culhane, O.S.F., Pastoral Life Director, officiating.
Interment will be in the Maryland State Veterans cemetery at Rocky Gap.
RUTH LUCILLE HITE
CUMBERLAND - Ruth Lucille Hite, 79, of Bowman's Addition, Cumberland, died Friday, May 16, 1997, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born Nov. 24, 1917, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late Presley Browning Dicken and Lillian (Hite) Dicken. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Wilbur Hite, April, 1963; and a daughter, Florence L. (Susie) Smith, January, 1992. Mrs. Hite was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Mrs. Hite was a cook for the Allegany County Board of Education. She worked at Corriganville and Northeast Elementary Schools. She was a member of St. Mark's United Church of Christ, and a member of Happy Valley Homemakers. She also served as a volunteer at Memorial Hospital.
Surviving are two sons, Wilbur E. Hite and wife Dolores, Cumberland, and Ronald W. Hite and wife Andrea, Severn; six grandchildren, Lisa Hite, Bryan Hite, Michael Smith, and Tina Smith, all of Cumberland, Linda Sue Smith, Fredericksburg, Va., and Laura Smith, Severn; and one great-granddaughter, Georgia Sue Smith, Cumberland.
Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Monday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Harold Shaffer officiating.
Interment will be in Rest Lawn Memorial Gardens.
DARLENE CARTER
CUMBERLAND - Darlene Carter, 45, of 301 Baltimore Street, died Friday, June 27, 1997, at Memorial Hospital.
Born December 11, 1951, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of Luella Simpson, Cumberland, and the late Robert Reger.
Surviving in addition to her mother are her husband, Gary F. Carter, Mount Savage; one son, John Conner, Eckhart; one sister, Barbara Soyk, Cumberland; three aunts, Ruby Twigg, Cecilia Lambert, and Anita Natale, all of Cumberland; a niece, Tina Kerns, and a grandniece, Alexandra Russell, both of Oklahoma; and several cousins.
Friends will be received at the Durst Funeral Home, Frostburg, on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral and committal services will be conducted at the funeral home on Tuesday at 11 a.m. with Pastor Brian Savage officiating.
Interment will be in Maryland State Veterans cemetery at Rocky Gap.
ANNA J. FLETCHER
LITTLE ORLEANS - Anna Jane Fletcher, 68, of Price Road, NE, Little Orleans, died Thursday, March 20, 1997, at Sacred Heart Hospital Hospice Unit, Cumberland.
Born July 25, 1928, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Samuel Albert and Anna Jane (Piper) Hollenbaugh. She also was preceded in death by one sister, Phoebe Norris; and six brothers, Samuel, John, Charles, Roy, George and Billy Hollenbaugh.
Mrs. Fletcher was employed for 17 years by London Fog in Hancock. She was a member of Price Wesleyan Memorial Church, Little Orleans.
Surviving are her husband of 50 years, Allan Fletcher; four daughters, Alice Turner and husband Bob, Carol Riggleman and husband Robert, Little Orleans, Penny Powell and husband Russell, and Beverly Moyer and husband Larry, Artemas, Pa.; one son, Roy Fletcher and wife Linda, Little Orleans; one sister, Helen Rankin and husband Vernon, Berkeley Springs, W.Va.; one brother, Harry Hollenbaugh and wife Hilda, Hagerstown; 10 grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at the Grove Funeral Home, 141 W. Main St., Hancock, on Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Sunday, March 23, 1997, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Daryl McClain officiating.
Burial will be in the Price Wesleyan Memorial cemetery, Little Orleans.
For the convenience of friends the funeral home will be open on Saturday from 2 to 9 p.m.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Sacred Heart Hospital Hospice Unit, Cumberland, MD 21502.
Pallbearers will be grandsons, Sam Turner, Scott Turner, Brian Yonker, Roy Fletcher Jr., Danny Pyles and Josh Moyer.
MARGARET V. DRESSMAN
CUMBERLAND - Margaret Veronica Dressman, 85, of Lions Manor Nursing Home, formerly of Booth Towers and National Highway, died Thursday, April 3, 1997, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born Oct. 29, 1911, in Frostburg, she was the daughter of the late John Connelly and Regina (Burkey) Connelly Wilson. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Edward William Dressman.
Mrs. Dressman was an Avon sales representative for 25 years. She was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Christian Mothers and the LaVale Homemakers.
Surviving are two sons, Joseph T. Dressman and wife, RoseMarie, Cleveland, Ohio, and Edward F. Dressman and wife, Nancy, Cumberland; two daughters, Mary Louise Lally, Nashville, Tenn., and Joan Hart, Slippery Rock, Pa.; one sister, Rose Connelly, Rest Assured Nursing Home; 14 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at Scarpelli Funeral Home, 108 Virginia Ave., Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Christian wake service will be conducted Friday at 8:45 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church Saturday at 11 a.m. with Father Vance Pastorius, OFM, Cap. officiating.
Interment will be in SS. Peter and Paul cemetery.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
MARGARET M. APPEL
CUMBERLAND - Margaret Manning Appel, 80, of Columbia Avenue, Cumberland, died Wednesday, June 4, 1997, at Memorial Hospital.
Born Sept. 23, 1916, in Pittsburgh, Pa., she was the daughter of the late William Myrtle and Bertha (Minnick) Myrtle.
Mrs. Appel was Methodist by faith.
Surviving are her husband, Richard Louis Appel; two daughters, Joan Kennell, Cumberland, and Rosella Anderson, Johnstown, Pa.; ten grandchildren, Kathy Kennell and Leo Kennell, both of Cumberland, Barbara McKinnon, England, George Nairn, Richmond, Va., Beverly Kegley, Johnstown, Pa., Jeffery Anderson, David Anderson, Blaine E. Anderson, Andy Anderson, and Bill Anderson, all of Johnstown, Pa.; a number of great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Leasure-Stein Funeral Home on Thursday from 2 to 4 p.m. only.
Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Harold R. McClay Jr. officiating.
Interment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Timothy Young, Leo Kennell, Raymond Washington III, Andy Anderson, Jeffery Anderson, and Blaine E. Anderson.
NANCY WILSON ARBOGAST
HARRISONBURG, Va. - Nancy Wilson Arbogast, 73, of Harrisonburg, died Dec. 6, 1997, at her home.
Mrs. Arbogast was born July 27, 1924, at Cumberland, and was the daughter of the late George Bernard and Eleanor Neff Wilson.
She graduated from high school in Maryland and retired from the Virginia Department of Agriculture in Harrisonburg. She was a member of the Asbury United Methodist Church.
On July 16, 1949, she married
W. Royce Arbogast, who died Aug. 16, 1993.
She is survived by two sons, Kelly Clark Arbogast, Terry Mark Arbogast, both of Harrisonburg; daughter, Dixie Gayle Arbogast, Harrisonburg; sister, Gladys Broadwater, Frostburg; and two grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 9, 1997, at the Mausoleum at East Lawn Memorial Gardens near Harrisonburg. The Reverends Doug Hill, James N. John, and Joseph D. Carson will conduct the service.
The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Kyger and Trobaugh Funeral Home in Harrisonburg. Friends may also call at the Arbogast home at any time.
