BETTY A. CATON
FROSTBURG - Betty A. Caton, 88, formerly of the Frostburg Heights Apartments, died Saturday, Nov. 29, 1997, at Frostburg Village Nursing Home.
Born Jan. 6, 1909, in Frostburg, she was the daughter of the late John W. and Tirzah (Biddington) Timmons. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Marshall H. Caton; two brothers; and two sisters. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Mrs. Caton attended the Frostburg Church of the Brethren. She was a self-employed seamstress and tailor in Baltimore for many years.
Surviving are three sons, William H. Timmons and wife Connie, Gainesville, Va., John A. Caton and wife Minnie, Endwell, N.Y., and Marshall L. Caton and wife Lisa, Frostburg; one sister-in-law, Dorothy Riner; five grandchildren, Marsha, Larry, Tammy, Jamie, and Michael; and five great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Durst Funeral Home, Frostburg, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Wednesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. T. William Preston and the Rev. Rick Riley officiating.
Pallbearers will be Michael Timmons, Larry Caton, Dennis McCloud, Jamie Caton, Dustin Nightengale, and Bill Nightengale.
Interment will be in Frostburg Memorial Park.
The family requests that memorials be directed to the Church of the Brethren, 1 Beall Street, Frostburg.
RAYMOND W. GREGORY
OAKLAND - Raymond William Gregory, 87, of 325 Gregory Lane, Oakland, died Friday, Oct. 10, 1997, at Garrett County Memorial Hospital, Oakland.
Born Feb. 16, 1910, in Kitzmiller, he was a son of the late Joel W. Gregory and LaVerna (Fluharty) Gregory.
Mr. Gregory was a retired coal miner.
Surviving are his wife, Vercie Gregory; three sons, Lawrence W. Gregory and Harold L. Gregory, both of Oakland, and Roy E. Gregory with the Armed Forces in Sicily; three daughters, Betty Reams, Oakland, Bonnie Friend, Mountain Lake Park, and Bessie Murray, Oakland; one sister, Nina Wilson, Salisbury, Pa.; 18 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Friends may call at the Durst Funeral Home, Oakland, on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Monday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. David Moon officiating.
Interment will be in Gregory cemetery.
DAN BUES DYER, SR.
MANASSAS, Va. - Brigadier General Dan Bues Dyer Sr., (USAF Retired), 83, of Manassas, died Wednesday, June 25, 1997, at his home.
Born Dec. 2, 1913, in Elko, Nev., and raised in Salt Lake City, Utah, he was the son of the late Herbert Allen and Ada Emma (Bues) Dyer. He also was preceded in death by two wives, Janet Lois (Maechtle) Dyer and Linda (Smith) Dyer; and one sister, Jane Reller Dyer.
General Dyer attended Northwestern University receiving a B.S. degree in 1935. He did post-graduate studies at the University of Heidelberg, Heidelberg, Germany, from 1936 to 1938, where he was accepted as a Ph.D. candidate. He also attended American University and the National War College. He was an Austin Scholar at Northwestern University. He was an active athlete and played football, basketball, soccer and track. He was an AAU Champion in the Rocky Mountain Conference in 1931.
In 1943, he volunteered for the U.S. Army and entered as a private. In 1950, he accepted a direct appointment as a colonel in the USAF Reserve. He was designated chief of the SAC/ADVEL group and maintained the group in a state of readiness from 1950 to 1961. His group was on 12-hour alert in the event of a crisis or war. He was promoted to brigadier general July 1, 1964.
He was a member of D.I.A. Rod and Gun Club, Targets Intelligence, and the Retired Officers Club.
Surviving are two daughters, Diana Jane Dyer, Manassas, and Deborah Ann Handy, Knoxville, Tenn.; three sons, Dan Bues Dyer, Jr., Grantsville, Md., formerly of Ashville and Black Mountain, N.C., David Allen Dyer, Chandler, Ariz., and Dennis Reed Dyer, Manassas, Va.; one brother, Joe Perry Dyer, Walnut, Calif.; dear friend, (G.A.) Lillian Orlich, Manassas; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Blasius-Baker Funeral Home, 9320 West Street, Manassas, on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be held at Baker Chapel on Monday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Pete Costello officiating.
Interment will be in Arlington National cemetery on Tuesday at 9 a.m. with full military honors.

OLIVE L. HOLSHEY
CUMBERLAND - Olive L. Holshey, 78, of Cumberland, presently a resident of Lions Manor Nursing Home since Jan., 1991, died Monday, July 7, 1997, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born March 6, 1919, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late Otto Menhorn and Anna Mae Menhorn Schaidt Wilson.
Mrs. Holshey was a homemaker. She was a 1936 graduate of Pennsylvania Avenue High School. She was a Lutheran by faith.
Surviving are her husband Philip Holshey; two sons, Michael L. Holshey and wife Kathy, Fairfax, Va., and Edward L. Holshey and wife Jonelle, Millersville; one sister, Charlotte Hirt, Crossville, Tenn.; five grandchildren, Shelley Holshey, Meredith J. Haskell and husband Mike, Michael W. Holshey and wife Susan, Rebecca Sheik and husband Will, and David Holshey; and five great-grandchildren.

PAUL P. FRANCIOSI
CUMBERLAND - Paul P. Franciosi, 69, of Cumberland, died Thursday, Nov. 27, 1997, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born Nov. 13, 1928, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Silvio and Adelina (Carpenti) Franciosi. He also was preceded in death by one brother, Norbert Franciosi; and one sister, Katherine Franciosi.
Mr. Franciosi was retired from the CSX Railroad, Cumberland. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Railroad Retirees Club.
Surviving are his wife, Margaret H. (Mantheiy) Franciosi; one daughter, Angela Marie Franciosi, Cumberland; two sons, Mark A. Franciosi, Cumberland, and Robert E. Franciosi and wife Bonnie, Altoona, Pa.; three brothers, Anthony Franciosi and wife Doris, Thomas Franciosi and wife Wilma, all of Cumberland, Valentine Franciosi and wife Marie, Orlando, Fla.; one sister, Grace Scaletta, Cumberland; one granddaughter, Heather A. Franciosi, Cumberland; and a number of nieces and nephews.

JEAN A. HOLTZ
NORWALK, Ohio - Jean A. Holtz, 74, of Norwalk, formerly of Mount Savage, died Friday, Nov. 21, 1997, at her residence.
Born May 5, 1923, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late John E. and Helen (Stein) Brennan. She also was preceded in death by her husband, John T. Holtz, in 1991.
She retired after 30 years with Clevite Elastomers of Milan in 1992.
Surviving are four sons, John T. Holtz, Jr., Warsaw, Ohio, Maxamillion Holtz, Marcus Holtz and Dan Holtz, both of Norwalk; four daughters, Marlene Duffield, Monroeville, Ohio, Deborah Ranney, Alta Loma, Calif., Nena Smith, Norwalk, and Anita Van Meter, Maryland; two sisters, Marcella Ciona and Mary Kramer, both of Cumberland; 18 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Durst Funeral Home, Frostburg, on Tuesday from 6 to 9 p.m.
