BETTY J. ADAMS
CUMBERLAND - Betty J. Adams, 72, of Cumberland, died Monday, Dec. 8, 1997, at Memorial Hospital Hospice Unit.
Born February 13, 1925, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late Ralph and Anna (McCarty) Knippenberg. She also was preceded in death by her companion of many years, William H. Waltman; and one sister.
Mrs. Adams worked many years at the Celanese Fiber Corporation. She retired in 1992 as a nursing assistant from Memorial Hospital after 26 years of faithful service. She made many lifelong and cherished friends during her career at the hospital. She was a loving mother and grandmother.
Surviving are two sons, Michael L. Adams and wife, Cathy, Brandywine, W.Va., and Patrick J. Adams and wife, Nancy, Cumberland; three daughters, Glenna M. Koontz and husband, James, Brandywine, Sandra Mongold, Fort Ashby, W.Va., Rose Adams, Cumberland; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; four sisters; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, 108 Virginia Avenue, Cumberland, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Wednesday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Bernard Yost officiating.
Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park, Cumberland.
Pallbearers will be grandsons.
Individuals wishing to make contributions in Mrs. Adams' memory may direct them to Memorial Hospital Hospice Unit.
JESSIE M. DIXON
CUMBERLAND - Jessie May Dixon, 98, formerly of Holland Street, Cumberland, died Tuesday, Nov. 11, 1997, at Memorial Hospital. She had been a patient at Frostburg Village Nursing Home.
Born May 1, 1899, in Frametown, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Sylviais Lee Hall and Ollie (James) Hall. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Harry Dixon, who died Dec. 11, 1961; and a son, Joseph H. Dixon.
Mrs. Dixon was a retired clerk for the postal service in Gasaway, W.Va., and taught school in Kanawha County, W.Va. She was a member of the Central United Methodist Church, and a member of the United Methodist Women.
Surviving are two sons, Clarke Hall Dixon and wife Juanita, Tulsa, Okla., and Frederick Dixon, Baton Rouge, La.; three daughters, Betty Lee Lewis and husband Willard, New Berlin, N.Y., Jean D. Mertens, Jacksonville, Fla., and Patricia Anne Cross, Cumberland; one sister, Alice Rollyson, Frametown, W.Va.; 13 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Kight Funeral Home, 309-311 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be held at the funeral home on Saturday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. William Carr officiating.
Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.

ERNEST W. ACKERMAN
MOUNTAIN LAKE PARK - Ernest W. Ackerman, 66, of N Street, Mountain Lake Park, died Friday, May 9, 1997, at his home.
Born Dec. 7, 1930, in Wheeling, W.Va., he was the son of Francis E. Ackerman, Mountain Lake Park, and the late Pearl Anna (Gray) Ackerman. He also was preceded in death by one son, Francis W. Ackerman; and one foster son, Christopher W. Walters.
Mr. Ackerman was a member of the Loch Lynn Church of God. He was a retired truck driver, welder and mechanic. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of the American Legion Proctor Kildow Post No. 71, Oakland.
Mr. Ackerman was the president of the Exception Support Group, Oakland, and was a former member of the Literacy Council. He attended Garrett Community College. He often portrayed Santa Claus at many area schools.
Mr. Ackerman and his wife were foster parents for 154 children during the past 12 years.
Surviving are his wife, Helen L. (Shreve) Ackerman; one daughter, Deborah Y. Friend, Oakland; three sons, Ernest Z. Ackerman, Spring Grove, Pa., Jeffrey W. Ackerman, Oakland, and the Rev. Ivan R. Ackerman, Las Cruces, N.M.; nine grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and five step-great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Stewart Funeral Home, Oakland, on Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. and on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be held at the Loch Lynn Church of God on Monday, May 12, 1997, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Robert Fletcher and the Rev. Ivan R. Ackerman officiating. Friends may call at the church one hour prior to services.
Interment will be in the Pleasant Valley cemetery.
Military honors will be accorded at the cemetery by members of the various veterans organizations in southern Garrett County.
QUENTIN L. GRIFFEY
ELLERSLIE - Quentin L. Griffey, 91, of Ellerslie, died Wednesday, April 16, 1997, at his residence.
Born May 16, 1905, at Ellerslie, he was a son of the late Charles H. and Emma E. (Coleman) Griffey. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel R. (Porter) Griffey, on July 6, 1993. Mr. Griffey was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Mr. Griffey was a retired self-employed contractor. He was a member of the Ellerslie United Methodist Church.
Surviving are two sons, Kenneth R. Griffey and wife Marilyn, Ellerslie, and Dr. Quentin L. Griffey Jr. and wife Ann, Misenheimer, N.C.; three grandchildren, Adam and Katie Griffey and Susan Guthrie; a sister-in-law, Erma Burkett, Silver Spring; and a brother-in-law, Robert Porter, Frederick.
Friends will be received at the Harvey H. Zeigler Funeral Home, Hyndman, on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Rebecca J. Vardiman officating. Interment will be in the Porter cemetery near Ellerslie.
BETTY S. DISANTO
FAIRFAX, Va. - Betty S. DiSanto, 75, died Friday, Oct. 3, 1997, at her home following a lengthy illness.
Born May 31, 1922, in Barton, she was a daughter of the late Leslie and Bertha (Dugan) Smith.
Surviving are husband, A.J. DiSanto, Col. USAF (Ret.), two daughters, Suzanne Ewing and Nancy Staples; and one son, Michael DiSanto; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandsons.
Interment took place Oct. 14 at Arlington National cemetery.
LUKE PATRICK "LUCKY" GRAHAME
CUMBERLAND- Luke Patrick "Lucky" Grahame, 64, of North Mechanic Street, Cumberland, died Tuesday, Dec. 16, 1997, at his residence.
He was born Dec. 13, 1933, in Cumberland. He was the son of the late Angela Grahame; and he also was preceded in death by a daughter, Janet Marie Grahame.
Mr. Grahame served in the U.S. Army and worked at ABL.
Lucky is survived by his wife, Joycelyn (Boyd) Grahame, with whom he celebrated their 42nd wedding anniversary on Nov. 1, 1997. Also surviving are two sons, William Eugene Grahame, N.D., and Patrick Edward Grahame, Cumberland; three daughters, Angela Kay Hager, Washington, Genevieve Sue Jones, Texas, and Patricia Rosetta Grahame, Cumberland; and nine grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Leasure-Stein Funeral Home on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Monday at 10 a.m. with the Rev.
Thomas R. Bevan officiating.
Interment will be in Rest Lawn Memorial Gardens in LaVale.
MARGARET P. HOPKINS
FROSTBURG - Margaret Pearl Hopkins, 77, of Frostburg, died Tuesday, Nov. 25, 1997, at her home on Ocean Hill.
Born Dec. 29, 1919, in Lonaconing, she was the daughter of the late James A. Ternent and Rachel L. Darley Ternent. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert S. Hopkins, on March 29, 1985; daughter, Barbara J. Hopkins, Feb. 12, 1980; and two babies.
Mrs. Hopkins worked for Celanese Fibers Company for more than 10 years.
Surviving are two sons, Earl Winters, at home, and Kenneth Hopkins and wife, Valerie, Gilmore; one daughter, Mary Witt and husband, LeRoy, Ocean Hill; two grandchildren, Barbara Witt and LeRoy Witt; and one great-granddaughter, Alexis Victoria Witt.
Surviving family members include three brothers, Mr. & Mrs. Lawrence Ternent, Midland; Mr. & Mrs. William Ternent, Lonaconing; and Mr. & Mrs. Cecil Ternent, Pennsylvania; two sisters, Edith Ternent, Allegany County Nursing Home, Cumberland; and Virginia Ternent Jones, Lonaconing.
Mrs. Hopkins has donated her body to the Maryland State Anatomy Board. There will be no funeral services.
A memorial service will be held at the First Assembly of God Church, 17222 Assembly Lane, Lonaconing, on Sunday, Nov. 30, 1997, at 4 p.m.
