ROBERT DEATELHAUSER
CUMBERLAND - Robert Bruce Deatelhauser, 56, of Cumberland, died Saturday, Sept. 27, 1997, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland.
Born Dec. 16, 1940, he was the son of the late William E. and Dorothy V. (Baker) Deatelhauser.
Mr. Deatelhauser was a merchandiser for PIMMS, a graduate of Fort Hill High School in 1958, and a graduate of Strayers College with an associate of arts degree in Finance in 1962. He attended Christ United Methodist Church, and he was a former little league and Hot Stove League baseball coach. He was a member of the Men's Industrial Bowling League at White Oaks Bowling Center.
Surviving are his wife of 35 years, Barbara L. (DelaGrange) Deatelhauser; four sons, Michael A. Deatelhauser, Tallahassee, Fla., Todd A. Deatelhauser and wife Christina, Cumberland, Scott E. Deatelhauser, at home, and Mark A. Deatelhauser and wife Shanda, Cumberland; three grandchildren, Kara, Kayla, and Tyler; one brother, Kenneth E. Deatelhauser and wife Marilyn, Souderton, Pa.; and mother-in-law, Eleanor DelaGrange, Cumberland.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, 108 Virginia Ave., on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Wednesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Stan Cardwell and the Rev. Wayne Turner officiating. Interment will be in Hillcrest Burial Park.
Contributions may be made to the Christ United Methodist Church or to the Allegany County Chapter of the American Heart Association.
JAMES H. FRIES
OAKLAND - James H. "Red" Fries, 87, of Oakland, died on Friday, June 27, 1997, at Oakland.
Born October 23, 1909, in Garrett County, he was a son of the late James Franklin Fries and Laura (DeWitt) Fries. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Twila A. Fries, in 1981.
Mr. Fries was retired from the Howard County Board of Education. He was a local musician known by many.
Surviving are two daughters, Rosellen Brown, Savage, and Rose Sanders, Oakland; one son, James W. Fries, Oakland; one sister, Arletha Moreland, Oakland; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Friends may be call at the Durst Funeral Home, Oakland, on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Monday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Robert Fletcher officiating.
Interment will be in Oak Grove cemetery.
WILLIAM C. EARLE
CUMBERLAND - William Charles Earle, 67, of Cumberland, died Monday, April 21, 1997, at his residence.
Born June 13, 1929, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late George E. Earle and Margaret (Grant) Earle Harbaugh. He also was preceded in death by his stepfather, Albert L. Harbaugh, and one brother, Kenneth H. Earle.
Mr. Earle was retired from the A&P; Supermarket, South Cumberland. He was a member of the U.S. Army National Guard.
Surviving are one sister, Lois J. Geoghan and husband John, Bivalve; one brother, Robert E. Harbaugh, with whom he resided; one sister-in-law, Mary M. Earle, Bel Air; five nieces; three nephews; one great-niece; and five great-nephews.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home, Friday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Milton A. Hipsley officiating.
Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
The family requests that contributions be made to the American Heart Association.
BEATRICE L. BRATT
CUMBERLAND - Beatrice LaVerne Bratt, 83, of 220 Sommerville Ave., Cumberland, died Saturday, March 22, 1997, at the Memorial Hospital Hospice Unit.
Born April 15, 1913, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late Herbert Sweitzer and the late Sarah (Appel) Sweitzer. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur William Bratt Jr., in 1976.
Surviving are one son, Arthur W. "Bill" Bratt III, Carpendale, W.Va.; one daughter, Barbara Ann Merritt and husband Roy, Cumberland; four grandchildren, Clay E. Merritt, Florida, Debra Bratt, Carpendale, Tracey Bratt Andrews, Carpendale, Kelly Bratt Nedved and husband David, Pittsburgh; four great-grandchildren, William Andrews, Gordon Andrews, Bradley Nedved and Marissa Nedved; one sister-in-law, Easter Sweitzer, Midland; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, 404 Decatur St., Cumbreland, on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. with the Rev. Richard Jewell officiating.
Interment will be in Hillcrest Burial Park.
FRANCIS X. "JAKE" CARRINGTON
FROSTBURG - Francis X. "Jake" Carrington, 79, of Frostburg, died Friday, May 23, 1997, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born July 19, 1917, in Waterbury, Conn., he was the son of the late Louis and Annie (Dwyer) Carrington.
Mr. Carrington was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, the Holy Name Society, and Maplehurst Country Club. He was an Allegany County teacher for 37 years, co-founder of the Sunday School Basketball League, and the first president of St. Michael's Church Council.
He received the 1985 Achievement Award for Outstanding Citizen in the Frostburg Hall of Fame, and in 1995 entered the Bobcat Hall of Fame. He served 20 years as secretary of the Frostburg Community Hospital Board, and was very active in area sporting events.
He was a graduate of Wilby High School and Frostburg State College.
Surviving are his wife, Martha "Marty" (Eby) Carrington; three daughters, Christina Henaghan and husband William, Rebecca Coleman and husband Dale, Maria Connor and husband Brian, all of Frostburg; three grandchildren, William Henaghan and wife Mary, Bernard Henaghan, and Christina Troutman and husband Michael; one great-granddaughter, Jordan Carrington Troutman; one brother, John Carrington, Boynton Beach, Fla.; and one sister, Grace Shum, Waterbury, Conn.
Friends will be received at the Sowers Funeral Home, Frostburg, on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Christian wake service will be held on Sunday at 7:30 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Michael's Catholic Church on Monday at 10 a.m. with Father Paul A. Byrnes and Father William E. Moody serving as celebrants.
Interment will be in St. Michael's Catholic cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Arthur "Max" Lloyd, Enordo "Moose" Arnone, Richard Harris, Francis Eugene Harris, Patrick Barry and Robert Barry.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Diabetic Association, Cystic Fibrosis, or St. Michael's Catholic Church.
LOUIS A. DELA GRANGE JR.
SCOTLAND NECK, N.C. - Louis Anthony Dela Grange Jr., 79, of Scotland Neck, died Thursday, March 20, 1997, at his residence.
He was the son of the late Dessie (Breckenridge) and Louis A. Dela Grange Sr., of Cumberland, Md. He graduated from Allegany High School in 1936.
Surviving are his daughter, Julie Howard and husband Mark, Scotland Neck; a son, Anthony "Tony" Dela Grange III; a sister, Bernice D. Munro, LaVale; and five grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at Trinity Episcopal Church, Scotland Neck, on Monday, March 24, at 2 p.m.
FRANK W. GETSON
TAYLORS ISLAND - Frank William "Johnny" Getson, 48, of Smithville Road, Taylors Island, formerly of Lonaconing, died Tuesday, April 15, 1997, at Mariner Health of Greater Laurel.
Born Sept. 28, 1948, at Frostburg, he was a son of the late James Elmer Getson and Bertha Jane (Bittinger) Getson. He also was preceded in death by one brother, James Elmer Getson Jr.
Mr. Getson was a self employed mechanic. He was a U.S. Army veteran of Vietnam, and served in Korea. He was Protestant by faith. He was a member of Lonaconing Republican Club, Lonaconing.
Surviving are two daughters, Christina (Getson) Wilson, South Carolina, and Elizabeth Getson, Laurel; one son, Frank William Getson Jr., "John," South Carolina; one grandchildren, Kimberly Getson; sisters, Alice Lieshers, Cordova; Bertha Jane Rosenburger, Stevensville, Irma D. Shockey, Michigan, Pauline Harling, Laurel, Judy Miller, Lonaconing, and Angela Bell, Point of Rocks; seven nephews; and six nieces.
Friends will be received at the Eichhorn-McKenzie Funeral Home, Lonaconing, Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be at the funeral home Friday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. George Loar officiating.
Interment will be in Rocky Gap Veterans cemetery.
