FRED E. BEACHY
OAKLAND - Fred E. Beachy, 97, of Paul Friend Road, Oakland, died Tuesday, Aug. 19, 1997, at the Dennett Road Manor Nursing Home, Oakland.
Born Feb. 12, 1900, in Accident, he was the son of the late Silas C. and Mary A. (Bowser) Beachy. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Daisy D. (Harrison) Beachy in 1986.

He purchased Hardesty Lumber Company and formed the Fred E. Beachy Lumber Company, Oakland, in 1951 and served as president until his retirement in 1995. He was a graduate of the Blue Ridge Academy, New Windsor, and the Parkersburg, West Virginia Business School.

He was a former member of the Oakland Rotary Club joining in 1955 and was a member of the Maple Spring Church of the Brethren.

He is survived by two daughters, Elizabeth A. Fike and husband the Rev. J. Rogers, Mountain Lake Park and Alice May Bookout and husband Gary D., Philippi, W.Va.; 12 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the Stewart Funeral Home, Oakland from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday.

Services will be held at the funeral home on Friday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. John Crowe officiating.

Interment will be in the Garrett County Memorial Gardens, Oakland.

The family requests that memorials take the form of contributions to the House of Hope, 202 South Fourth St., Oakland, MD 21550, or to your favorite charity.

LUTHER C. BEACHY
GRANTSVILLE - Luther Coolidge Beachy, 73, of 93 E. Main St., Grantsville, died Saturday, July 5, 1997, at Memorial Hospital, Cumberland.
Born June 12, 1924, in Grantsville, he was a son of the late Galen and Vena (Yost) Beachy. He also was preceded in death by a son, Bradley; and a brother, Galen Beachy Jr.

Mr. Beachy was a member of Maple Grove Church of the Brethren. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he was a member of Grantsville Post 214, American Legion and a lifetime member of Walker-Harris Post, VFW, Salisbury, Pa.

He is survived by his wife Betty Jane (Wilt) Beachy; three sons, Gerald Beachy and Kevin Beachy, both of Grantsville, and Timothy Beachy, Springs, Pa.; three daughters, Kathy Riley, Cresaptown, Rebecca Hresko, Eldersburg, and Tamara Beachy, Grantsville; two sisters, Kay Speicher, Grantsville and Helen Keim, Somerset, Pa; and nine grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Home, Grantsville, on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Monday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Terrell Mallow officiating.

Interment will be in Grantsville cemetery.

Military graveside rites will be accorded by the American Legion.

Expressions of sympathy may be directed to Northern Garrett County Rescue Squad, PO Box 293, Grantsville, MD 21536.

MARY M. HARRISON
TOWSON - Mary M. (Brady) "Maggie" Harrison, beloved wife of Maj. Leslie R. Harrison Jr., U.S. Army Ret., devoted mother of David R., Michael R. and Joan L. Harrison; sister of Ellen B. Davis and Felix R. Brady; also survived by seven grandchildren, died Friday, Nov. 7, 1997, at Towson. Mrs. Harrison was born in Cumberland.
Friends were received at the Ruck Towson Funeral Home Inc., 1050 York Road (Beltway Exit 26A), Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.; and will also be received Tuesday from 2 to 4 p.m. Memorial services will be held in the Havenwood Presbyterian Church, Ridgely and Charmuth Roads, on Tuesday at 7 p.m. Graveside services and interment will be held in Arlington National cemetery on Friday, Nov. 14, at 3 p.m.

In lieu flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 8219 Town Center Drive, Baltimore, MD 21236, or to the Children's Hospital, Baltimore, Md.

WARREN R. BEARINGER
CUMBERLAND - Warren R. Bearinger, 69, of Cumberland, died Sunday, Aug. 3, 1997, at Memorial Hospital.
Born Aug. 24, 1927, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Joseph and Myrtle (Durbin) Bearinger. He also was preceded in death by three sisters, Katherine Sharon, Leoda Bearinger and Frances Kincaid; two brothers, Paul Bearinger and Joseph Ralph Bearinger.

Mr. Bearinger retired in 1985 as a clerk from the Chessie System Railroad after 35 years of service. He was a US Navy veteran of World War II. He was a Methodist by faith.

Surviving are his wife Ella V. (Duckworth) Bearinger; three sons, Gary A. Bearinger and wife Elisa, Donald R. Bearinger and wife Jane and Larry W. "Bike" Bearinger; one daughter, Nancy L. Fram and husband Tom; one brother, Claude W. Bearinger, all of Cumberland; six grandchildren, Kelly Oaks and husband Rick, Eric Bearinger, Jason Bearinger, Matthew Bearinger, Dawn Bearinger and Andrea Bearinger; and one great-grandson, Benjamin Oaks.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, on Tuesday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Wednesday at 1 p.m. with the Pastor Stanley G. Cardwell officiating.

Interment will be in the Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be Ronald Isner, Rick Oaks, Frank Palumbo, Lou Metz, James Martin and Joey Brewer.

Family requests that expressions of sympathy be made to the American Heart Association.

LEONA I. BECHTOL
CUMBERLAND - Leona I. Bechtol, 88, of Cumberland, died Friday, July 25, 1997, at Memorial Hospital.
Born June 6, 1909, near Great Cacapon, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Norman and Bertha (Smith) Whisner. She also was preceded in death by her husband Edward F. Bechtol, in 1977; two brothers, Omer Whisner and Melvin Whisner; and one grandson, Nathaniel "Chip" Wright.

Mrs. Bechtol was a loving mother, grandmother and homemaker to many. She was a member of the Winifred Road Church of Christ.

Surviving are three sons, Neil F. Bechtol and wife Erma, Carroll Valley, Pa., Charles E. Bechtol and wife Frances, Fayetteville, N.C., and Gary W. Bechtol and wife Jeanie, Baltimore; one daughter, Virginia Lee Wright and husband Nathaniel, Cresaptown; three sisters, Beatrice Gilhart, Front Royal, Va., Vesta Secrest, Clear Spring, Elvinia Bechtol, Brunswick; one brother-in-law, John L. Bechtol and wife Faun, Cumberland; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, on Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Sunday at 2 p.m. with the Pastor John Herbst officiating.

Interment will be at the Mount Nebo cemetery, near Great Cacapon.

Family requests expressions of sympathy be made to the Winifred Road Church of Christ.

LYDIA L. BECK
FROSTBURG - Lydia Lennox Beck, 92, of Frostburg Heights Apartments, died Sunday, May 11, 1997, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born November 29, 1904, in Zihlman, she was the daughter of the late Archibald and Margaret (Rankin) Lennox. She also was preceded in death by her husband, David Beck, on January 11, 1970; and one brother, Wesley Lennox.

Mrs. Beck was a member of Allegany United Methodist Church and the Ladies Aid.

Surviving are two brothers, Harry Lennox, Zihlman, and Andrew Lennox and wife Janet, Ridgeley, W.Va; and one sister-in-law Belle Lennox, Frostburg.

Friends will be received at the Sowers Funeral Home, Frostburg, on Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the funeral home at 1 p.m. with the Rev. George M. Harpold officiating.

Interment will be in Frostburg Memorial Park.

Memorial contributions may be made to Allegany United Methodist Church.

VERONICA E. BECKNER
WESTERNPORT - Veronica E. Beckner, 68, of 102 Kalbaugh St., Westernport, died Wednesday, Dec. 10, 1997, at her residence.
Born Aug. 2, 1929, in Frostburg, she was the daughter of Kathleen (Rafferty) Winner, Lonaconing, and the late Vernard F. Winner. She also was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Winner.

Mrs. Beckner retired in 1991 from the Allegany County Board of Education as a dedicated teacher, having taught most of her career at Barton Elementary School. She was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church, Westernport, and a member of Court Sancta Maria No. 485 Catholic Daughters of America. Mrs. Beckner was a member of Victory Unit No. 155 Ladies Auxiliary, a member of the Allegany County Retired Teachers Association, and the National Education Association. She also was a life member of the Maryland State PTA, and a life member of the Barton Elementary School PTA.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by her beloved husband, Raymond R. Beckner; and she was a devoted mother to Michael Beckner, Westernport, Joseph Beckner and wife Margie, Lonaconing, Linda Davis-Kyle and husband Gene, Barton, Janet Morris and husband Jim, Westernport, and Thomas Beckner and wife Rhonda, Westernport. Also surviving are nine brothers and sisters, Elizabeth Hallinan, Cumberland; Bernard Winner, Cumberland; Sister Kathleen Bernard, Baltimore; Kathleen Larkin, Frostburg; Rose Marie Montgomery, Barton; John Winner, Lonaconing; William G. Winner, Cumberland; Robert "Hank" Winner, Georgia; and James Winner, Lonaconing. She was a loving grandmother to Jamie Likens, Al Beckner, Heather Ann Beckner, Megan Elizabeth Beckner, Aaron Mathew Beckner, Jennifer Zais, Cassie Morris, Eric Morris, Josh Beckner, and Luke Beckner; and a great-grandmother to Nathan and Brandon Zais.

Friends will be received at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport, on Thursday and Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Peter's Catholic Church on Saturday at 10 a.m. with Father James Hannon and Father Paul Byrnes as celebrants.

Interment will be in St. Peter's cemetery.

The Catholic Daughters will hold a Christian wake service at the funeral home on Friday at 7:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Peter's Church Organ Fund, or to the Barton Elementary School, or to a charity of your choice.

Pallbearers will be Al Beckner, Jamie Likens, Jared Zais, Tom Morris, Jim Morris, and Gene Kyle. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Richard Sloop, Willard Cleavenger, Steve Wilson, Dr. Fred Sloan, and Keith Kiddy.
