WANDA P. HOUSE
CUMBERLAND - Wanda P. House, 72, of Cumberland, died Tuesday, June 3, 1997, at the Washington Hospital Center, Washington, D.C.
Born June 9, 1924, in Rocksberry, she was the daughter of the late Irvin and Virgie (Vance) Rector. She also was preceded in death by one brother, William Rector.
Mrs. House was a former employee of the G.C. Murphy Co., Baltimore Street. She was Catholic by faith.
Surviving are her husband, Lester R. "Les" House; one son, Robert Scott House and wife Brenda, Ridgeley, W.Va.; one daughter, Tammy Boyle and husband Terrance Jr., Hanover, Pa.; two sisters, Madeline Clark, Cumberland, and Marie Hoopengardner and husband Emory, Hancock; mother-in-law, Alice House, Cumberland; one sister-in-law, Evelyn Rector, Glen Burnie; three grandchildren, Joshua House, Brandon House, and Tara Boyle; and several nieces and nephews.
At Mrs. House's request, she was cremated.
Memorial mass will be celebrated at St. Mary's Catholic Church on Friday at 9 a.m. with the Rev. Milton A. Hipsley officiating.
The family requests that contributions be directed to the Allegany County Animal Shelter, 716 Furnace St., Cumberland, MD 21502.
The Scarpelli Funeral Home, 108 Virginia Ave., is in charge of the arrangements.
ROGER P. GLOTFELTY JR.
OAKLAND - Roger P. Glotfelty Jr., 60, of Glotfelty Drive, Oakland, died Thursday, Dec. 11, 1997, at Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, W.Va.
Born Aug. 7, 1997, in McHenry, he was the son of the late Paul and Ethel G. (Glotfelty) Glotfelty.
He was currently serving as the chairman of the Garrett County Board of Commissioners and was recently appointed by his fellow commissioners as chairman for three terms. He began working with his father at the Paul Glotfelty Lumber Company and, in 1962, became affiliated with Glotfelty Enterprises/Hawkinson Tread Company and, upon his retirement in 1994, he was the secretary/treasurer. He was elected county commissioner the same year. He was a member of the Oak Park Church of the Brethren. He served in the local detachment of the Maryland National Guard from 1956 to 1963.
Mr. Glotfelty served on the Garrett County Roads Board, Garrett County Planning Commission, Garrett County Health Council, Garrett County-Deep Creek Lake Promotion Council, Deep Creek Advisory Board, Western Maryland Planning Agency, Garrett County Economic Development Corporation, Garrett County Board of Health, Garrett County Black Bear Task Force, and was a member of the Maryland Association of Counties Board of Directors.
He was a member and past president of the Oakland-Mountain Lake Park Lions Club and served as the zone chairman and cabinet secretary for his Lions Club district. He was a former member of the Garrett County Fair Board.
Surviving are his wife, Joanne V. (DeWitt) Glotfelty; two daughters, Valinda Hile, Greensburg, Pa., and Susan Shockey, Oakland; two sons, Paul E. Glotfelty and Roger P. Glotfelty Jr., both of Oakland; two sisters, Barbara Meyers and Wanda Riley, both of Oakland; three brothers, Samuel Glotfelty, Aurora, W.Va., Curtis R. Glotfelty, and Robert E. Glotfelty, both of Oakland; and 10 grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Stewart Funeral Home, Oakland, on Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be held at the Oak Park Church of the Brethren on Monday, December 15, 1997, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Mel Menker officiating. Friends may call at the church one hour prior to the services.
Interment will be in Garrett County Memorial Gardens, Oakland.
The family requests that memorials take the form of contributions to your local volunteer rescue squad or fire department.
Honorary pallbearers will be county commissioners H. Wayne Wilt and Gary E. Fratz; County Administrator Monty Pagenhardt; former county commissioner John Braskey; and the members of the Oakland-Mountain Lake Park Lions Club.
EDNA MAY BARNES
FROSTBURG - Edna May Barnes, 88, formerly of Abingdon, died Sunday, Dec. 14, 1997, at the Frostburg Village Nursing Home, Frostburg.
Born Sept. 13, 1909, in Spencer, N.C., she was the daughter of the late George Calvin Karnes and Dolly (Walker) Karnes. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Stephen S. Barnes.
Mrs. Barnes was a homemaker. She was a member of the Cub Hill Presbyterian Church.
Surviving are one daughter, Edna M. Stinefelt and husband, William, Frostburg; one granddaughter, Edna M. Travers and family, Abingdon; one grandson, Stephen Stinefelt and family, Hawaii; four great-grandchildren; one sister, Helen Brougham, Covington, Va.
Visitation and funeral services were conducted in Baltimore. Durst Funeral Home, Frostburg, was in charge of the arrangements.
Interment was in the Moreland Memorial Park cemetery, Parkville.
ANN GANOE BARNES
WALDORF - Ann Ganoe Barnes, 70, of Waldorf, formerly of Hampshire County, W.Va., died Thursday, Oct. 30, 1997, at her residence.
She was born Sept. 8, 1927, in Three Churches, W.Va., to the late Melvin J. "Buck", and Gertrude (Lewis) Ganoe. She also was preceded in death by her husband, David Elwood Barnes, Sr.; one son, David Elwood Barnes, Jr.; one daughter, Virginia Ann Barnes; and one brother, Ralph Ganoe.
Mrs. Barnes was retired with over 30 years of service as a contracting officer for the U.S. Army Material Command.
She was a member of the Berean Independent Baptist Church, Fort Ashby, W.Va.; and a life member of the Ladies Auxiliary #8950 to the VFW of Bladensburg.
She is survived by a son, Robert "Bobby" B. Barnes, Phoenix, Ariz.; a daughter, Susan K. Harding, Waldorf; two brothers, Louden Ganoe, Delaware, and Lewis Ganoe, Fort Ashby; 12 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Shaffer Funeral Home, Romney, W.Va., on Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. with Pastor Dana Umbel officiating.
Interment will be in Ebenezer cemetery, Romney.
Arrangements are under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home.
HAROLD E. BARBOUR
GILMORE - Harold E. "Barney" Barbour, 79, of 15227 New Georges Creek Road, Gilmore, died Wednesday, June 25, 1997, at the Frostburg Village Nursing Home.
Born Jan. 23, 1918, in Gilmore, he was the son of the late Ralph Barbour and Jannie (Muir) Barbour. He also was preceded in death by two brothers, Ted and Melvin Barber; and one sister, Pearl Willetts.
Mr. Barbour was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, and an active member of the Gilmore Civic Improvement Club. He retired from the Celanese Corp. with 48 years of service. He attended the Midland United Methodist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Hazel (Moore) Barbour; one daughter, Earlene (Barbour) Cutter and husband Ray, Midland; five sisters, Anna Magruder, Cumberland, Erma Wagoner, North Carolina, Ernestine Owens, Cumberland, Jeanette Barber, Gilmore, Charlotte Fisher and special friend Firn Hill, St. Louis, Mo.; and two grandchildren, Tammy Michelle Cutter and R. Jeffrey Cutter.
Services will be conducted at the Eichhorn-McKenzie Funeral Home on Friday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Lawrence Frye officiating.
Interment will be in the Maryland State Veterans cemetery at Rocky Gap.
Pallbearers will be Dick Duckworth, Jim Walker, Eric Campbell, Mark MacDonald, Dick Jenkins, Glendale Howell and John Baker.
