ALBERT J. CLARK
CUMBERLAND - Albert Joseph Clark, 85, formerly of Frederick Street, Cumberland, died Saturday, March 15, 1997, at the Cumberland Nursing Home.
Born June 10, 1911, in Bluefield, W.Va., he was the son of the late Sylvester and Martha (Minnicks) Clark. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Nettie D. (Rice) Clark, in 1986; and his sister, Angela Wade.
Mr. Clark retired from Cumberland Steel with 40 years of service. He was a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church, and had served as a volunteer for many years at Memorial Hospital. He was a former member of the Maryland State Guard and Knights of Pythias.
Surviving are a nephew, Major Robert Wade Jr., MDDF, and wife Janet, Cumberland; three nieces, Sandra Wilt and husband Gene, Cumberland, Barbara Rice Pemberton, Laguna Beach, Calif., and Virginia Rice Couglan, Washington, D.C.; and a cousin, Lillian Fairall, Cumberland. Visitation will be at the George-Upchurch Funeral Home, 202 Greene St., Cumberland, on Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m., and Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
The funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, March 18, 1997, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Daren L. Ritchey officiating.
Interment will be in St. Luke's cemetery.

JOHN B. CLANCEY
CUMBERLAND - John B. Clancey, 93, formerly of St. Mary's Avenue, Cumberland, died Sunday, Oct. 26, 1997, at the Moran Manor Nursing Home, Westernport.
Born Aug. 29, 1904, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late John and Lucy (O'Riley) Clancey. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Catherine Clancey; and three brothers, Joseph A. Clancey, Michael F. Clancey, and Eugene E. Clancey.
Mr. Clancey was a retired clerk for CSX Transportation, a graduate of St. Mary's High School, and a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church.
Surviving are one daughter, M. Patricia Gallinek and husband, Dr. Wilfred Gallinek, M.D., Arlington, Va.; two sons, John T. Clancey, Punta Gorda, Fla., and Michael F. Clancey; three grandchildren, Constance S. Clancey, Ph.D., Eric Gallinek, and Todd Gallinek.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, 108 Virginia Avenue, on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. There will be a Christian Wake Service held on Monday at 4 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the St. Mary's Catholic Church on Tuesday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Milton A. Hipsley as Celebrant. Interment will be in St. Mary's cemetery.
PHILIP T. CHRIST, JR.
ELKHART, Ind. - Philip Thomas Christ Jr., of 51923 Winding Waters Lane, Elkhart, and Oakridge Road, Littleton, Mass., died Saturday, May 24, 1997, at his home in Elkhart after a long illness.
Born April 4, 1931, in Cumberland, Md., he was the son of the late Philip Thomas Christ Sr., and the late Mildred (Sell) Christ. He also was preceded in death by a sister, Patsy (Christ) Trenton.
Mr. Christ was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church. He graduated from LaSalle High School in 1949, and worked at Queen City Electric and Pittsburgh Plate Glass Co. A U.S. veteran of the Korean War, he graduated from West Virginia University with a bachelor of science degree in industrial engineering. On June 14, 1959, he married
Barbara Ann (Martin) Christ, then a resident of Cumberland, Md. While working on his graduate degree at UCLA, he was hired by General Electric Co., where he completed a three year management training program, and then held numerous management positions that resulted in various residencies, primarily in Bloomfield Hills, Mich., and Lynchburg, Va. He was hired by the Simplex Time Recorder Co., Gardner, Mass., in 1976, where he served as senior vice-president until 1986. Since 1990, he worked at CTS Corp., Elkhart, as group vice-president.
Mr. Christ was deeply loved by his surviving wife; two sons, Martin A. Christ, Littleton, Mass., and Michael J. Christ, Arlington, Mass.; one daughter, Kelly A. (Christ) Shimmel, Merrimack, N.H.; one sister, Joanne (Christ) Thom, and one brother, Robert Christ, both of Cumberland, Md.; one son-in-law, David Shimmel, Merrimack, N.H.; two daughters-in-law, LeeAnn Solomon Christ, Littleton, Mass.; and Leah Palumbo Christ, Arlington, Mass.; four grandchildren, David, Lauren, Carmen, and Michaela; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at St. Pius X Church, 52553 Fir Road, Granger, Ind., Tuesday, May 27, 1997, from 6 to 7 p.m.
Funeral mass will be celebrated at the church Tuesday, May 27, 1997, at 7 p.m.
A memorial mass will be celebrated in Littleton, Mass., at a later date.

STATEN R. KIDWELL
MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Staten Richard Kidwell, son of the late Staten Wilson Kidwell, died Wednesday, June 25, 1997, in Memphis.
He was born on Dec. 13, 1932, in Midland, Md., and spent the first seven years of his life there until his father passed away. He was raised and attended school in Arlington, Va.
He is survived by his mother Jeannette Jackson Kidwell Thompson; one sister, Shirley Kidwell Saunders, King, N.C.; two aunts, Malverda Kidwell Metcalf, Westernport, Md., and Frances Kidwell Clayton, Mount Solon, Va.; one niece; and one nephew.
Burial was in King, N.C.
JOSEPH M. CHORPENNING, SR.
LAVALE - Joseph M. Chorpenning Sr., 51, of Lavale, died Wednesday, May 21, 1997, at Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, W.Va.
Born December 24, 1945, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late A. Joseph and Bernadette (Chapman) Chorpenning.
He was a 1964 graduate of Allegany High School.
Mr. Chorpenning was the Executive Assistant to the Regional Director of the Mid-Atlantic Region of United Food and Commercial Workers International Union AFL-CIO-CLC. He was known coast to coast for his kind, caring manner as well as his ability to improve peoples' lives through his work.
He was a member of SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church; a lifetime member of the Cumberland Outdoor Club; and the National Rifle Association. He was also an avid hunter and fisherman.
He was a former member of the Loyal Order of Moose, Lodge No. 271, and Council No. 586 Knights of Columbus.
Surviving are his wife of 30 years, Jeanne (Kesler) Chorpenning; two sons, Joseph M. Chorpenning II and wife Christie, Clayton, N.J., and Jason Chorpenning and fiancee Amy Spangler, both of Cumberland; one sister, Mary Bernadette Roland and husband John, Frostburg; one brother, Patrick Francis Chorpenning and wife Cornelia, Phoenix, Ariz.; one grandson, Jordon Chorpenning, Clayton, N.J.; and his beloved poodle, Magic.
Friends will be received at the George-Upchurch Funeral Home, 202 Greene St., Cumberland, on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
A Christian wake service will be held at the funeral home on Friday at 8:45 p.m.
Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church on Saturday, May 24, 1997, at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Vance Pastorius, O.F.M., Cap, as celebrant.
Interment will be in the parish cemetery.

HARRY L. HICKLE JR.
RAWLINGS - Harry L. Hickle Jr., 52, of 18118 Eagle View Drive, SW, Rawlings, died Monday, Oct. 6, 1997 at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland.
Born May 14, 1945, in Cumberland, he was a son of the late Harry L. Hickle Sr. and Ina Susan Cook.
Mr. Hickle was employed as a supervisor with the Carl Belt Paving Company. He attended the Danville Community Church and was a member of Local 616 Laborers International Union, Cumberland.
He is survived by one son, Harry L. Hickle III, Rawlings; three daughters, Cindy A. Hickle, Rawlings, Diane Dolly and Karen Siesky, both of Keyser; one sister, Betty J. Pratt and husband Robert, Keyser; close friends Randy Cirillo and Carl and Jane Belt; and five grandchildren.
Friends were received at the Rotruck-Smith Funeral Home, Keyser, on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services were conducted at the funeral home chapel on Thursday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Waco Biser officiating.
Interment was in Dawson cemetery.
