JAMES T. PAIGE SR.
CUMBERLAND - James Thomas Paige Sr., 83, of 448 Pine Avenue, Cumberland, died Wednesday, July 30, 1997, at his home.
Born January 18, 1914, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Jesse and Gertrude (Davis) Paige. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Anna Frances (Washington) Paige.

Mr. Paige was retired from the B&O; Railroad. He was a member of McKendree United Methodist Church.

Surviving are a son, James Thomas Paige Jr. and wife Carol, Cleveland, Ohio; four brothers, Marvin Page, Calif., William Page, N.Y., Kenneth Page, Texas, and Fisher Page, N.Y.; four sisters, Virginia Flurry, Jessup, Marion Page, Cumberland, Wiona Mitchell, Pittsburgh, Pa., and Mayola Banks, Cumberland; three grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be conducted at the McKendree United Methodist Church, 203 Paca Street, Cumberland, on Saturday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Theodore Higby officiating.

Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.

The Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, 404 Decatur Street, Cumberland, is in charge of the arrangements.

WILLIAM L. MURPHY
JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. - William L. "Bill" Murphy, 47, of Johnson City, formerly of Luke, Md., died Friday, Aug. 1, 1997, of accidental causes at his home.
Born on Dec. 2, 1949, is Scotia, Calif., he was the son of the late Gerald and Geraldine Murphy.

Mr. Murphy received an engineering degree from Oregon Tech in 1974. He was a decorated veteran of the Vietnam War, where he was wounded in action. He was an engineering nomad who lived many places during his career. At the time of the rebuild of the eight and nine paper machines at Westvaco, in 1989, he met and subsequently married his wife.

He was the much loved husband of Barbara (Bryan) Murphy.

Besides his wife of eight and a half years; he is survived by two brothers, John Murphy, Creswell, Ore., and Charles Murphy, Eugene, Ore.; four step children, Katrina Phon, Montreal, Canada, Rae Ann Redman and Brian Riggins, both of Westernport, and Wade Riggins, Fountain, W.Va.; four step grandchildren, on whom he doted, Jessica Redman, Jimmy Wilson, Zachary and Taylor Riggins. To them he was known affectionately as "Bill Murphy." He is also survived by two very special nephews, Michael "Mike" Murphy, New Market, Md., and his twin brother, Mitchell "Mitch" Murphy, stationed with the Navy in Spain; one beloved niece, Shawna Dicks, Woodinville, Wash.; and six great nieces and nephews.

A celebration of his life will be held at the Piedmont Presbyterian Church, Piedmont, W.Va., on Friday, August 8, at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Harry Coleman officiating.

Friends will be received at the church fellowship hall one hour prior to services.

Interment will follow in the Philos cemetery, Westernport.

At his request, his body was cremated.

"Murphy" was a very special person - an original. Bill and Barb's favorite song by Elton John kind of sums up their relationship - "When stars collide like you and I, no shadows block the sun." He left many good memories behind and will be greatly missed.

Boal Funeral Home, Westernport, is in charge of arrangements. Any inquiries and condolences will be forwarded to the family by the funeral home.

MABLE E. PLATTER
MONTVALE, Va. - Mable Elizabeth (Orendorf) Platter, 84, of Route 1, Montvale, Va., died Thursday, May 8, 1997, at Roanoke Memorial Hospital, Roanoke.
Born Jan. 9, 1913, at Accident, Md., she was a daughter of the late Nelson and Susie (Opel) Orendorf.

Mrs. Platter was a homemaker. She was member of the Trinity Church of the Brethren, Fincastle.

She is survived by her husband, the Rev. Fenton H. Platter; three sons, Lowell Platter and wife Gail, Wanaque, N.J., David Platter and wife Betty, Fincastle, Henry Platter and wife Bonnie, Eagle Rock; a daughter, Ruth Sullivan and husband Dan, Sarasota, Fla.; a brother, Harold Orendorf and wife Mary, Brooksville, Fla.; a sister, Helen Wagoner and husband Tom, Keyser, W.Va.; six grandchildren, Lynette Baker and husband Don; Malinda Wallace and husband Dan, Suzanne VanSplinter and husband Eric, Keith Platter and wife Donna, Kristi Stultz and husband Patrick, and Michelle Platter; and three great-grandchildren, Patrick L. Wallace, Katherine Jane VanSplinter, and Ashley Marie Platter.

Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Home, Grantsville, Md., on Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Monday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. J. Rogers Fike and the Rev. Timothy Monn officiating.

Interment will be in Grantsville cemetery.

ROBERT C. RADCLIFFE
HAGERSTOWN - Robert C. Radcliffe, 71, of 7 E. Washington St., Hagerstown, died Thursday, May 8, 1997, at his residence.
Born April 28, 1926, in Ridgeley, W.Va., he was a son of the late Robert A. and D. Mae (Zembower) Radcliffe.

Mr. Radcliffe had been a resident of Baltimore for many years, and he worked for several cemeteries. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific Theater.

Surviving are two sisters, Ruth M. Fatkin, Frostburg, and Helen P. Willison, Manheim, Pa.

Services will be conducted at the Gerald N. Minnich Funeral Home, 305 N. Potomac St., Hagerstown, on Monday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. J. Norman Mayer officiating.

Burial will be in the Maryland State Veterans cemetery at Rocky Gap, Flintstone.

MAY PAPE
ECKHART - May Pape, 93, formerly of Eckhart, died Tuesday, Sept. 16, 1997, at the Egle Nursing Home, Lonaconing.
Born April 18, 1904, in Frostburg, she was the daughter of the late John and Ann (Storey) Brode. She also was preceded in death by her husband, William R. Pape, in 1960; two daughters, Dolores Smith and JoAnn Pape; three brothers; and three sisters. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Mrs. Pape was a member of the Eckhart United Methodist Church.

Surviving are two sons, Richard Pape and wife, Catherine, Finzel, and Karl Pape, a resident of Egle Nursing Home; four daughters, Betty Davis and Mildred Brinkman, both of Frostburg, Janice Boch, Cresaptown, and Patricia Speir and husband James, Loartown; 17 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the Sowers Funeral Home, Frostburg, on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. George M. Harpold officiating.

Interment will be in Eckhart cemetery.

Pallbearers will be David Smith, Todd Logsdon, Brian Speir, Kevin Speir, Steven Yates, and Jeff Smearman.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Egle Nursing Home, Lonaconing or to the Eckhart United Methodist Church.

MARY M. MILLER
FROSTBURG - Mary Margaret Miller, 64, of 12004 Kemp Dr., N.W., Frostburg, died Saturday, Dec. 13, 1997, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland.
Born June 28, 1933, in Frostburg, she was the daughter of the late George and Agnes (Eisentrout) Miller. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Mrs. Miller was a homemaker. She was a member and deacon of the First Congregational Church, Frostburg.

Surviving are her husband of 43 years, Charles W. Miller, one son, John W. Miller and wife Debra, one daughter, Cheryl L. Negley and husband Larry, one granddaughter, Stephanie, and three grandsons, Matthew, Christopher and Michael, all of Frostburg.

Friends will be received at the Durst Funeral Home, Frostburg, on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the First Congregational Church on Tuesday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Joseph R. Penick officiating.

Interment will be in the Frostburg Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be Marty Miller, Albert Miller, Wilbert Williams, Larry Fisher, Keith Greig and Sam McCulloh.

The family requests that memorials be directed to the First Congregational Church, 103 Bowery St., Frostburg, MD 21532.
