HILDA M. LARKIN
CUMBERLAND - Hilda May Larkin, 89, of 409 Bedford St., Cumberland, died Saturday, July 26, 1997, at Memorial Hospital.
Born May 12, 1908, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late Nicholas Schade and the late Elizabeth (Diebold) Schade. She also was preceded in death by her husband Edward DeSales Larkin, in 1984.
Mrs. Larkin was co-owner and operator of the Naborhood Grocery, Bedford Street. She was a member of the St. Luke's Lutheran Church and the Lutheran Church Women. Mrs. Larkin was a graduate of Memorial Hospital School of Nursing. She also was employed in private practice.
Surviving are two sons, David Larkin, Cumberland, and Charles Larkin and wife Margaret Jane Peterson, Waldorf; two grandchildren, Nicholas Larkin and Alyssa Peterson; one step daughter, Mary Main, El Paso, Texas; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, 404 Decatur Street, Cumberland, on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Monday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Stephen F. Yelovich officiating.
Interment will be in the Hillcrest Burial Park.
In lieu of flowers, contributions are asked to be made to the St. Luke's Memorial Fund.
VERONICA D. LAPP
CUMBERLAND - Veronica "Ronnie" Delores Lapp, 85, of Cumberland, died Wednesday, May 7, 1997, at her home.
Born Jan. 27, 1912, in Lonaconing, she was the daughter of the late Orland Green and the late Margaret A. (Monahan) Green. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Lapp, in 1987; a son, Carl Wayne Owens; and a daughter, Geraldine Chipman.
Mrs. Lapp was a member of Fort Cumberland Post 13 American Legion Auxiliary; Henry Hart Post 1411 VFW Auxiliary; and St. Michael's Catholic Church, Frostburg.
Surviving are her son, Ralph R. Owens and wife Patricia, Columbia, Tenn.; three brothers, Francis Green and Joseph Green, both of Lonaconing, and Leon Green, Melbourne, Fla.; 12 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary's Catholic Church on Friday at noon with Father Milton Hipsley as celebrant.
Following the funeral Mass, Mrs. Lapp's request was to be cremated and her ashes interred in the family lot in Frostburg Memorial Park on Saturday at noon.
STEPHEN L. LANTZ
FROSTBURG - Stephen Leon Lantz, 40, of Frostburg, died suddenly Friday, Dec. 12, 1997, at his home, as the result of an extended illness.
Born Jan. 18, 1957, in Cumberland, he was the son of Roscoe Leon Lantz and Mary Christine (Riley) Lantz of Cumberland.
Mr. Lantz was formerly employed by Hills and Gabriels Department Stores. He was a 1975 graduate of Fort Hill High School. He received his associate of arts degree in business administration from Allegany Community College. He was an active and respected supporter and participant in the independent pool league at My Place, Ridgeley, W.Va., as well as being an avid fisherman and hunter.
Surviving, besides his parents, are a son, Dylan Thomas Lantz, who Steve always claimed "he made life worth living;" a special friend, Dylan's mother, Kelly Lantz; a sister, Linda Christine Dawson and husband Robert; a brother, David Duane Lantz; a very loving and caring godmother, Margaret Viands; an especially devoted canine pet and friend, Caesar; and nephews, Matthew Richard Cornwell, Brandon Shane Walker, Andrew Aaron Cornwell, Gregory Shawn Walker, Cody Jordan Walker, Brian Daniel Dawson, Robert William Dawson, and John Cecil Dawson.
Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Tuesday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Dr. Thomas F. Gulbronson officiating.
Interment will be in Rest Lawn Memorial Gardens, LaVale.
Pallbearers will be Steve's nephews.
MELISSA A. LANTZ
MOUNT SAVAGE - Melissa Ann Friend Lantz, 32, of Mount Savage, died Saturday, August 9, 1997, at Memorial Hospital.
Born August 2, 1965, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of James Kenneth Friend, Mount Savage, and Peggy Ann (Blank) Friend, Mount Savage, with whom she resided.
A computer programmer for Sovran Bank, Richmond, Va., she was a 1983 graduate of Mount Savage High School and a 1985 graduate of Allegany College.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by one sister, Denise Marie Friend, Glen Burnie.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, 108 Virginia Avenue, Cumberland, on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. with the Rev. Richard Broome Jr. officiating.
Interment will be in Mount Savage United Methodist Church cemetery. Pallbearers will be David Hovatter, Ronald Wilhelm, Keith Ziler, Ronald Ziler, Edward Friend, and Shane Friend.
MARY H. LANAM
CUMBERLAND - Mary Helena Rummer Lanam, 87, of Devlin Manor Nursing Home, formerly of Booth Towers, died Saturday, April 12, 1997, at the nursing home.
Born March 1, 1910, in Wiley Ford, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late John and Bertha (Crabtree) Rummer. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Franklin Theodore Lanam, in 1969.
Mrs. Lanam worked at the B & O Lunch Room, Celanese Plant, and Cumberland Glass. She was a member of the Church of God.
Surviving are one son, Robert F. Lanam, Middletown; two daughters, Edna Mae Lee and Charlotte Leona Lewis, both of Cumberland; two brothers, Merl Rummer, a resident of Lions Manor Nursing Home, and Walter Rummer, Wiley Ford; 43 grand-children; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the George-Upchurch Funeral Home, 202 Greene St., on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Robert Fletcher officiating.
Interment will be in Fort Ashby cemetery.
FREDERICK G. LANDON
Mt. LAKE PARK - Frederick G. Landon, 87, of Mt. Lake Park, died on Thursday, Feb. 20, 1997, at Garrett County Memorial Hospital, Oakland.
Born in Mt. Lake Park on Sept. 28, 1909, the son of the late William E. Landon and Blanche (Dawson) Landon.
Mr. Landon was a retired meat cutter, and a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II and the Korean conflict.
Surviving are his wife, Ada (Hostetler) Landon; five sons, Frederick W. Landon, Prince George, Va., Harold V. Landon, Alliance, Ohio, Ralph E. Landon, Salem, Ohio, Richard L. Landon, Alliance, Ohio, and Edward D. Landon, Mt. Lake Park; three daughters, Nancy L. Dean, Harrodsburg, Ky., Alice J. Bell, Oakland, and Rosella Parks, Keyser, W.Va.; 28 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Friends may call at the Durst Funeral Home, Oakland, on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. with the Rev. Mark Hickman officiating.
Interment will be in the Pleasant Valley cemetery.

EDWARD "BUTCH" J. LANCASTER
FROSTBURG - Edward "Butch" J. Lancaster, 54, of 12217 Upper Georges Creek Road SW, died Thursday, April 24, 1997, at his residence.
Born September 20, 1942, in Frostburg, he was the son of the late Marshall T. and Alice (Carter) Lancaster.
Mr. Lancaster was a carpenter with Carpenters' Union Local 1024, Cumberland. He attended St. Michael's Catholic Church, Frostburg. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marines serving in Vietnam. He was a member of American Legion Farrady Post 24, Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 348, and Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 1273, all of Frostburg.
Surviving are his wife, Colleen (Shannon) Lancaster; one son, Daniel J. Lancaster, at home; one stepson, Paul R. Robin Jr., Thornton, Colo.; three brothers, Thomas Lancaster, Swanton, Joseph Lancaster, Bel Air, and Marshall L. Lancaster, Frostburg; three sisters, Catherine Russell, Gilmore, Mary Hess and Dorothy Kerns, both of Frostburg.
Friends will be received at the Durst Funeral Home, Frostburg, on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Frostburg, Tuesday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. William Moody as celebrant.
Interment will be in Maryland Veterans cemetery at Rocky Gap. Farrady Post 24 will accord military honors at graveside.
Pallbearers will be Bobby Ziler, Paul Robin Jr., Richard Kerns, Thomas Hess, Robert Hess, Marshall Lancaster and Joseph Hess.
ANNA BELLE LANCASTER
CUMBERLAND - Anna Belle Lancaster, 85, formerly of the Cumberland Arms Apartments, Baltimore Avenue, and a patient at Lions Manor Nursing Home, died Wednesday, Nov. 5, 1997, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
She was born Nov. 26, 1911, at Burlington, W.Va., the daughter of the late Herman Marshall Oates and Nora Belle (Logsdon) Oates. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Lancaster, who died in 1960; a daughter Delores Grant; and a sister, Virginia Neff.
Mrs. Lancaster was a retired employee of the Allegany County Board of Education where she worked as a custodian at West Side Elementary School. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
She is survived by one daughter, Patsy Jean Scharf, Cumberland; two brothers, Marshall Franklin Oates, and David Oates and wife, Millie, both of Pittsburgh, Pa.; three grandchildren, John A. Oates, Rodney Lee Oates and wife, Debra, both of Cumberland; Carla Renee (Scharf) Davidson and husband, Kevin, Midway Park, N.C.; five great-grandchildren, Lesley M. Oates, Leigh Ann Oates, Rodney L. Oates II, Chauntay R. Gray and Samantha D. Miller; six nephews, Larry B. Oates, Marshall Shear, Marshall Franklin Oates, Thomas Neff, Jerry Oates, Russell Neff; two nieces, Donna Rae (Oates) Zoppo, Anna Renee (Neff) Granger; and numerous cousins.
Friends will be received at the Kight Funeral Home, 309-311 Decatur Street, Cumberland, on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be held at the funeral home on Monday at 1 p.m. with Bishop Steven L. Whited officiating. Interment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park.
