BERNETTA M. MURPHY
GRANTSVILLE - Bernetta Mae Murphy, 84, of 550 Murphy Lane, Swanton, died Thursday, Sept. 4, 1997, as a result of an auto accident on the Dry Run Road, Swanton.
Born Nov. 25, 1912, at Addison, Pa., she was a daughter of the late Jasper and Emma (Durst) Hileman. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Allen S. Murphy, on Dec. 27, 1990.

Mrs. Murphy is survived by a son, Roland S. Murphy, Swanton; and a brother, Ervin Hileman, Australia.

Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Home, Grantsville on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted on Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Dry Run Mennonite Church with the Rev. Sanford Bender and the Rev. Owen Preston officiating.

Interment will be in the Murphy cemetery.

FLORENCE POOLE
CUMBERLAND - Florence "Flo" Poole, 70, of Cumberland, died Monday, Sept. 15, 1997, at Memorial Hospital after a long illness.
Born Aug. 24, 1927, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late Graham E. and Ruth E. (Card) Poole.

Miss Poole was retired from Memorial Hospital. She attended The Salvation Army, Cumberland, and participated in various programs of the Salvation Army.

Surviving are one sister, Esther Marie Cowdrick and husband James Robert, Smithsburg; one brother, Thomas Poole, with whom she resided; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, 108 Virginia Ave., on Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Wednesday at 1 p.m. with Major Harvey Adams officiating.

Interment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

The family requests expressions of sympathy be made to the Salvation Army, Cumberland, or to the Willowbrook Junior Academy Seventh-Day Adventist School.

VIRGINIA L. PYLE
KITZMILLER - Virginia Lake "Mammy" Pyle, 83, of Kitzmiller, died Tuesday, June 3, 1997, at her residence.
Born Aug. 3, 1913, in Bond, she was a daughter of the late Ezra R. and Lucinda (Bowser) Warnick. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Pyle.

Mrs. Pyle retired from Sterling Processing, Oakland. She was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy, Deer Park.

Surviving are two sons, Cecil Pyle, Ozark, Ala., and John Pyle, Akron, Ohio; three daughters, Kathleen Brinkman, Keyser, W.Va., Alverta Lancaster, Akron, Ohio, and Peggy Tasker, Swanton; two brothers, Russell Warnick and Leonard Warnick, both of Baltimore; two sisters, Mildred Boggs, Oakland, and Pearl Schmidt, Mt. Lake; 17 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the David A. Burdock Funeral Home, Kitzmiller, on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Funeral services will be held in the funeral home chapel on Friday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Billy Van Hoozier officiating.

Interment will be in the IOOF cemetery, Elk Garden.

GRACE H. POORBAUGH
LAVALE - Grace Helen Poorbaugh, 73, of 12916 Gram lich Road SW, LaVale, passed away Monday, July 21, 1997, at Memorial Hospital.
Born in Bedford, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Silas Kifer and the late Lottie (McCoy) Kifer. She also was preceded in death by one son, Steven P. Poorbaugh, in 1952; one sister, Lucy Hollar; and six brothers, Roy, Carl, Gernie, Thurman, Harry and Robert Kifer.

Surviving are her husband Earl E. Poorbaugh; two sons, William E. Poorbaugh and wife Linda, Midlothian, Va., and Douglas W. Poorbaugh and wife Lynn, Newville, Pa.; two sisters, Dorothy Borror, East Berlin, Pa., and Kathleen Nesselrodt and husband Rev. M. W. Nesselrodt, Flintstone; three grandchildren, Christian Poorbaugh Adams and husband Thomas, Funkstown, William E. Poorbaugh Jr. and Tarah K. Poorbaugh, both of Midlothian, Va.; and two great-grandchildren, Brendan M. Adams and Brianna M. Adams, both of Funkstown.

Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, 404 Decatur Street, Cumberland, on Tuesday and Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services ill be held at the funeral home on Thursday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. M. W. Nesselrodt officiating.

Pallbearers will be Thomas Adams, John Clauson, Carl Kifer, Jr., James Mathews, Warren Howsare, and B.J. Poorbaugh.

Interment will be in the Prosperity Christian cemetery, near Chaneysville, Pa.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the LaVale Volunteer Fire Department, or the LaVale Rescue Squad.

WILLIAM L. MURPHY
HAGERSTOWN - William Lester Murphy, 85, of 932 Rose Hill Ave., Hagerstown, died Monday, June 2, 1997, at the Washington County Hospital, Hagerstown.
Born July 10, 1911, in Flintstone, he was the son of the late Thomas H. and Matilda (Diehl) Murphy. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Elizabeth Murphy, in 1984.

Mr. Murphy was retired from the Bethlehem Steel Co., and was previously employed with Fairchild, Hagerstown. He was a member of the VFW 1936, and American Legion Funkstown Post 211. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

Surviving are two sons, William H. Murphy, England, and Lester C. Murphy, Hagerstown; one sister, Ethel Rayburn, Cumberland; and two grandchildren.

Friends will be received at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd. on Friday from 7 to 8 p.m.

Services will be at the funeral home on Saturday at 2:45 p.m. with the Rev. George A. Limmer officiating.

Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park.

KATHLEEN MURRAY
CUMBERLAND -Kathleen (Glick) Murray, 103, of Cumberland, died Wednesday, Feb. 12, 1997, at the Cumberland Nursing Home.
Born Aug. 6, 1893, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late Frank Joseph and Catherine (Holzen) Glick. She also was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Louise Glick.

Mrs. Murray was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church.

Survivors include her daughter, Kathleen Knowles, Rehobeth Beach, Del.; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at the SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church on Monday, Feb. 17, 1997, at 10 a.m.

Interment will be in the parish cemetery.

The George-Upchurch Funeral Home, Cumberland, is in charge of arrangements.

ELIZABETH M. MILLER
CUMBERLAND - Elizabeth M. Miller, 81, of Cumberland, died Monday, July 7, 1997, at the Memorial Hospital Hospice Unit.
Born March 25, 1916, in Shaft, she was the daughter of the late John and Catherine (Trapp) Chapman. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Merlyn F. Miller; five sisters, Florance Morrisey, Margaret Fisher, Leola Miller, Josephine Yarnell and Bernadette Chorpenning; and three brothers, William Chapman, John Chapman and George Chapman.

Mrs. Miller was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church.

Surviving are four sons, John F. Miller and wife Terry, Cumberland, Thomas E. Miller and wife Sandra, Boonsboro, Michael J. Miller and wife Sharon, Frostburg, and Paul M. Miller and wife Billie, Fayetteville, N.C.; one daughter, Suzanne M. Hilton and husband Raymond, Cumberland; one brother, Warren F. Chapman, Cumberland; 13 grandchildren, John Miller Jr., Tina Malloy, Teresa Isner, Lisa Miller, M.D., Michael Miller Jr., Brian Miller, Teresa Leggett, Lisa McGraw, Donald Strickland, Katherine Mason, Raymond Hilton Jr., Elizabeth Hilton and Krista Hilton; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, on Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Christian Wake will be conducted at the funeral home on Thursday at 8 p.m.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Patrick's Catholic Church on Friday at 9 a.m.

Interment will be in the Sunset Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be John Miller Jr., Michael Miller Jr., Brian Miller, Raymond Hilton Jr., Steven Mason and Ronald Rockwell.
