ETHEL J. MOODY
LAVALE - Ethel Jane Kroll Moody, 77, formerly of Georgia Avenue, LaVale, died Wednesday, Dec. 10, 1997, at the Allegany County Nursing Home, Cumberland.
Born April 3, 1920, in Gilmore, she was the daughter of the late Richard and Mary (Muir) Kroll. She also was preceded in death by four sisters and one brother.
Mrs. Moody was a member of Park Place United Methodist Church, LaVale.
Surviving are her husband, Olin C. Moody; two sons, Charles O. Moody and wife Sharon, LaVale, and William C. Moody and wife Susan, Cresaptown; one daughter, Mary Elizabeth (Moody) Kidwell and husband Mark, Mooresville, N.C.; one brother, Lloyd Kroll and wife Helen, Barton; one sister, Dorothea Timney, Lonaconing; and four grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Leasure-Stein Funeral Home, 230 Baltimore Ave., Cumberland, on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Lowell Garland officiating.
Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be George Foster, Ronald Clites, Russ Bucy, Bill McGann, Jim McGann, and Dave Lehman.
MICHAEL A. MOONEY
CUMBERLAND - Michael A. Mooney, 89, of Cumberland, died Saturday, Aug. 23, 1997, at Memorial Hospital.
Born Jan. 23, 1908, in Ridgeley, W.Va., he was the son of the late Andrew and Johanna (Dagnon) Mooney.
Mr. Mooney retired as a cook at the Town Hill Hotel, Little Orleans. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church.
Surviving are his wife, Mildred (Self) Mooney; five sons, Charles Mooney and wife Donna, Trinidad, Calif., Lawrence Mooney, Cumberland, Gary Mooney and wife Jackie, Ridgeley, Daniel Mooney, and Dale Mooney and wife Belinda, all of Cumberland; two daughters, Amy Ashbery and husband Richard, Holly, N.Y., and Pamela Shanholtz and husband Gary, Cumberland; and 13 grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, on Monday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Tuesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Floyd Bender officiating.
Interment will be in Glendale cemetery, Flintstone.
ANDREW E. MOORE
BARTON - Andrew Edward Moore, 78, of Barton, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 6, 1997, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born May 20, 1918, in Barton, he was the son of the late George and Olive (Ritchey) Moore.
He was a member of Barton United Methodist Church where he was the custodian for many years. He was a lifetime member of Barton American Legion Post 189. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He retired from the Allegany County Board of Education.
Surviving are his wife Ruth (Richardson) Moore. They would have celebrated their 54th anniversary on April 12. Also surviving are three daughters, Diana Deremer and husband Blll of Port Ritchie, Fla., Carol Goldsworthy and husband Richard of Frostburg, Cheryl Moore and husband Raymond of Lonaconing; one brother, Joseph Moore of Baltimore; and two sisters, Mae Marcheski and Virginia Perdue, both of Baltimore; seven grandchildren, Andy Deremer, Jeff Deremer, Sharon Merling, Phillip Merling, Donald Moore, Amy Moore and Michael Moore; and one great-grandchild, Kylye Lynn DeHaven.
Friends will be received at the Boal Memorial Chapel, Barton, Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Wednesday, April 9, 1997, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Harold Malone officiating.
Barton American Legion will hold a memorial service at the funeral home on Tuesday at 7:15 p.m.
Interment will be in the Mountain View cemetery, Moscow Mills.
EVELYN E. MOORE
CUMBERLAND - Evelyn E. Moore, 71, of Cumberland, died Monday, Sept. 29, 1997, at Memorial Hospital, Cumberland.
Born July 9, 1926, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Lila (Shrout) Christman. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Griffith Moore, and one brother, James Christman.
Mrs. Moore was a member of Lake Gordon Assembly of God Church.
Surviving are eight sisters, Emma Hott, San Jose, Calif., Daisy Hott, Saratoga, Calif., Madaline McGee, Cumberland, Pauline McCarthy, Alexandria, Va., Dorothy Hill, Cumberland, Grace Welsh, Cumberland, Betty Brundy, Drakes Branch, Va., and Frances Simmons, Bedford, Pa.; two brothers, Elmer Christman, Okeechobee, Fla., and Frank Christman, Cumberland; a number of nieces and nephews; and a special family, the Carlile Family, Cumberland.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, on Wednesday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Thursday at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. Bernard A. Yost officiating.
Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
GLADYS S. MOORE
HYATTSVILLE - Gladys S. Moore, 91, of Hyattsville, died Sunday, June 1, 1997, at her residence.
Born May 7, 1906, in Elk Garden, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late John and Carrie (Knepp) Burdock. Twice married
, Gladys was also preceded in death by her husbands, Russell Shillingburg and Paul Moore. Mrs. Moore was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Surviving are nieces, nephews, and her sister-in-law, Rosemary Burdock.
Friends will be received at the David A. Burdock Funeral Home, Kitzmiller, on Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be in the funeral home chapel on Wednesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Donald E. Marple officiating.
Interment will be in the IOOF cemetery, Elk Garden.
HILDA J. MOORE
HYATTSVILLE - Hilda Jane Moore, of Hyattsville, formerly of Main Street, Lonaconing, died Monday, Feb. 17, 1997, at Hyattsville.
Born Dec. 24, 1907, at Gilmore, she was a daughter of the late John Thomas Moore and Margaret Hall (Smith) Moore.
Miss Moore graduated from Midland High School in 1927, one of 12 students who graduated. She received her teaching certificate in 1929 from Frostburg Normal School, and her bachelor of science degree from the University of Maryland. She taught elementary school for 46 years in Allegany County, and taught at Central High School, Lonaconing. She retired from Central in 1973, and moved to Hyattsville to take care of her sisters. She lived there for 11 years. She was a member of the Teacher Friend Card Club, Lonaconing, and the First Presbyterian Church, Lonaconing.
Surviving are two sisters, Edna Smith Moore, Hyattsville, and Dorothy Moore Wamsley, Potomac Park. Also surviving are Wendy Wamsley Showers, Sara Wamsley Fields, and Ivan Francis Moore.
Friends will be received at the Eichhorn-McKenzie Funeral Home, 8 East Main St., Lonaconing, Friday from 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be at the funeral home Saturday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Vernon Gauthier officiating.
Interment will be in Frostburg Memorial Park.
WOODROW W. RAINES, SR.
LONACONING - Woodrow W. "Ike" Raines Sr., 78, of 15544 Lower Georges Creek Road, Lonaconing, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 24, 1997, at Frostburg Village Nursing Home.
Born August 1, 1918, in Westernport, he was a son of the late James G. and Ida C. (Baldwin) Raines.
Mr. Raines retired from Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland, and formerly worked at the Barton Fire Hall. He was a member of the Bible Baptist Church, Barton.
Surviving are his wife, Edith Mae (Walker) Raines; three sons, Woodrow W. Raines, Jr., Williamsburg, Va., Ron E. Raines, Frostburg, and Richard N. Raines, Hampton, Va.; two daughters, Mary Boaz, Midwest City, Okla., and Gloria Jean Brockman, Lake Hills, Texas; one brother, Russell Raines, Westernport; one brother-in-law, James E. Walker, Barton; 17 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Boal Memorial Chapel, Barton, on Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. and on Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be held at the funeral home on Sunday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Dallas Bunch officiating.
Interment will be in Laurel Hill cemetery, Moscow Mills.
