MARION S. MOORE
LONACONING - Marion Speir Moore, 73, of 44 Douglas Avenue, Lonaconing, died Saturday, Nov. 1, 1997, at Memorial Hospital, Cumberland.
Born Feb. 12, 1924, in Lonaconing, she was the daughter of the late Hugh Speir and Alice Jeanette Connor.
Mrs. Moore was employed at the George Brown Insurance Company, Cumberland. She was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ, Corriganville, and was a 1941 graduate of Central High School. She was a member of the Professional Insurance Association, Alvin C. Neat VFW Post No. 5280 Ladies Auxiliary, Martha Washington Chapter No. 10 Order of the Eastern Star, and Lonaconing Senior Citizens.
Surviving are one son, Francis Hugh Moore and wife Barbara (Wilson), Stafford, Va.; one grandchild, James Francis Moore, Stafford, Va.; and many close friends who were like family.
Friends will be received at the Boal Funeral Home, Lonaconing, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Wednesday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Ruth S. Kershner officiating.
Interment will be in Frostburg Memorial Park.
The Martha Washington Chapter No. 10 Order of the Eastern Star will hold a memorial service at the funeral home on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
The family requests memorials may be made to Georges Creek Rescue Squad or to St. John's United Church of Christ, Corriganville.
HOWARD M. PARNES
FROSTBURG - Howard M. Parnes, 52, of Frostburg, died Sunday, June 22, 1997, in Troutdale, Va.
Born March 15, 1945, in New York City, he was the son of the late David and Mary (Rosenheck) Parnes.
Mr. Parnes received his B.S. degree with a major in art, and his M.S. degree in education with a major in audio visual from Indiana University.
He was hired at Frostburg State University in 1967 and was the youngest administrator at that time. He developed the Audio Visual Department, which grew to the Communication Mass Media Department. He added to the curriculum of the college by having envisioned and developed the first courses in photography, graphic arts and other mediums of communication. He later went on to develop film studies classes, video production and film making. He taught speech and introduction to computer courses. He was the first official Webmaster at Frostburg State University. Mr. Parnes was recipient of the Mentor Award.
He was a movie critic for the Frostburg Journal.
He was instrumental in the Bluegrass Workshop for the Rocky Gap Festival and was chairman of the Music Workshop Committee since its inception. He was a musician, woodworker, instrument maker and an outstanding father, grandpa and brother.
Surviving are two sons, David Parnes and wife Kim, and Michael Parnes, all of Frostburg; one daughter, Meredith Parnes and husband Barry Jurek, Silver Spring; two grandchildren, David and Dylan Parnes; and one sister, Pat Light and husband Richard, Ashville, N.C.
Friends will be received at the Sowers Funeral Home, Frostburg, on Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Wednesday at 2 p.m. with the Rabbi Scott Gurdin officiating.
Interment will be in Frostburg Memorial Park.
MARY C. MOORE-NICELY
HAGERSTOWN - Mary C. (Adams) Moore-Nicely, 60, of Hagerstown, died Friday, July 11, 1997, at the Washington County Hospital, Hagerstown.
Born Feb. 21, 1937, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late Frederick and Catherine (Lease) Adams. She also was preceded in death by her first husband, Donald W. Moore, to whom she was married
for 27 years, and her second husband, Henry Lee Nicely.
Surviving are one sister, Joanne L. Maples, Hagerstown, who lived with her and took care of her until her death; one brother, Larry G. Patton, Baltimore; a niece Kristy A. Matthews and a great-niece, Kristie D. Matthews, both of Hagerstown; one nephew, James M. Maples, Hagerstown; a special friend of the family, James L. Welsh, Cumberland; and three stepdaughters, Joy Smith, Ridgeley, W.Va., Carol Butler, Cumberland, and Donna Bohman, Hagerstown.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, on Monday from 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Tuesday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Merdith C. Shryock officiating.
Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
CLAUDIA A. RALSTON
CUMBERLAND - Claudia A. Ralston, 55, of Memorial Avenue, Cumberland, died Friday, June 20, 1997, at Memorial Hospital, Cumberland.
Born July 20, 1941, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late Claude Allen and Mary M. (Corbin) Luck. She also was preceded in death by one son, Richard Trail.
Ms. Ralston was a homemaker and a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church.
Surviving are one son, John C. Ralston and wife Shelly, Cumberland; one grandson, Jacob Ralston, Cumberland; and two sisters, Mary Ann Baker, Cumberland, and Ruth E. Burgess and husband Ronald, Wiley Ford, W.Va.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Monday at 9:30 a.m. with Fr. Milton A. Hipsley officiating.
Interment will be in St. Mary's cemetery.
WILLARD J. MOORE
CUMBERLAND - Willard Jesse "Jack" Moore, 80, of Centre Street, Cumberland, died Thursday, Dec. 11, 1997, at Memorial Hospital.
Born Nov. 7, 1917, in Mount Savage, he was the son of the late Jesse James and Edna Pearl (Emerick) Moore. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Jean Alma Moore; one brother, Ernest Leo Moore; and one sister, Hazel Cassady.
Mr. Moore was a retired businessman in the Allegany County area. He was a Protestant by faith. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, and a member of the Cumberland VFW and American Legion.
Surviving are two sons, Garry J. Moore, with whom he resided, and Frank J. Palumbo and wife Claudia, all of Cumberland; one daughter, Carol Brown and husband Richard, Cumberland; one brother, William L. "Bill" Moore and wife Karen, Cumberland; four sisters, Helen Turner Moore, Marilyn Martin, both of Baltimore, Dorothy Wakefield and husband Roy, Cumberland, and Thelma Sheckles, Long Beach, Calif.; and three grandchildren, Gavin and Tessa Palumbo, and Gina Mae Brown.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Monday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Wayne R. Turner officiating.
Interment will be in Maryland State Veterans cemetery at Rocky Gap.
Graveside military honors will be accorded by the Combined Veterans Honor Guard.
Pallbearers will be Richard Brown, Tim Farrell, Sam Friend, James "Red" Lewis, Rich Richmond, and Steve Keefauver.
JAMES EDWARD MORAN
OLDTOWN - James Edward Moran, 62, of 14602 Ruby Road, S.E., Oldtown, passed away Saturday, Oct. 25, 1997, at Memorial Hospital, Cumberland.
He was born in Meyersdale, Pa., on June 4, 1935, the son of Mrs. Anna Louise (Mossholder) Moran and the late William J. Moran.
Mr. Moran was a retired employee of P.P.G. and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a member of American Legion Post #13, V.F.W. #1411, Cumberland Eagles #245, Good Fellowship Club, Early Edition Street Rodders. Mr. Moran was a member of Calvary Assembly of God Church, Fort Ashby, W.Va.
He also is survived by his wife, Linda L. (Kinser) Moran; two daughters, June A. Ellifritz and husband, Edgar, Keyser, W.Va., and Karen S. Athey and husband, William, Cumberland; one son, James R. Moran and wife, Tonya, Cumberland; grandchildren, David, Michael and Jennifer Ellifritz, and Joshua and Katlyn Moran; and two sons by a previous marriage, Michael R. and James E. Moran, Jr., Delaware.
Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, 404 Decatur Street, Cumberland, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Graveside services will be conducted on Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Rocky Gap Veterans cemetery by the Rev. Wesley Beahm and the Rev. Ernie Keller.
Full military rites will be accorded at graveside by Combined Veterans Honor Guard.
