LUIGI MARINELLI
CUMBERLAND - Luigi "Louis" Marinelli, 79, of New Hampshire Avenue, formerly of Maple Street, Cumberland, died Friday, March 14, 1997, at Memorial Hospital.
Born Feb. 5, 1918, in Marigliano, Naples, Italy, he was the son of the late Guiseppe and Guiseppino Marinelli. He also was preceded in death by a brother, Aniello Marinelli.

Mr. Marinelli was a high school teacher in Marigliano, where he taught Italian, Latin and Greek. He came to the United States in 1948, where he was employed by the Cumberland Macaroni Factory. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and was a lifelong member of the Cumberland Moose Lodge 271.

Surviving are his wife of 41 years, Orsola Marinelli; two sons, Joseph Marinelli, Hagerstown, and John Marinelli, Cumberland; one daughter, Anna Marinelli, Cumberland; one sister, Francesca DiGilarmo, LaVale; and two nephews, Raymond DiGilarmo and wife Linda, LaVale, and Michael DiGilarmo and wife Cathy, Carpendale, W.Va.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, on Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m., and Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Christian Wake Service will be conducted at the funeral home on Sunday at 2 p.m.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary's Catholic Church on Monday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Milton A. Hipsley officiating. Interment will be in St. Mary's cemetery.

LEO M. PELLERZI
SILVER SPRING - Leo Maurice Pellerzi, 73, of Silver Spring, formerly of Cumberland, died Thursday, June 19, 1997, at his cattle farm in Madley Hollow, Pa., after a heart attack.
Mr. Pellerzi was a former assistant to the United States Attorney General for administration from 1968 to 1973, and retired in 1979 from the general counsel of the American Federation of Government Employees, who had been active in professional groups.

He began his government career in 1949 as a lawyer for the Interstate Commerce Commission. He was assistant general counsel of the Subversive Activities Control Board before serving as an ICC administrative law judge from 1959 to 1965. He then spent three years as general counsel of the United States Civil Service Commission.

He was a past president of both the D.C. chapter of the Federal Bar Association and the Federal Trial Examiners Conference. He also was a past chairman of the FBA's general counsels committee and had been chairman of committees of the American Bar Association and the World Peace Through Law Center.

He was a 1967 recipient of the FBA's Tom C. Clark award, presented to the year's outstanding government career lawyer, and a 1968 commissioner's award of the Civil Service Commission. In 1971, he received the Charles J. Bonaparte award from the Italian Executives of America for outstanding public service in the field of justice by an American of Italian heritage.

He was a graduate of the George Washington University, where he also received two law degrees. He served with the U.S. Army Air Force in Europe during World War II, receiving five Air Medals. He later retired from the Air Force reserve as a lieutenant colonel. He had been a guest lecturer at Princeton and George Washington universities and a member of veterans groups and the John Carroll Society. He was a past president of the Indian Springs Citizens Association.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Michelle S. Dunn, who died in the late 1980s.

Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Betty Lou (Mearkle), Silver Springs; two sons, John C., Sioux Falls, S.D., and Jeffery C., Silver Springs; three daughters, Cheryl M. Schwimer, Bethesda, Julie A. Pellerzi, and Laura M. Vickers, both of Silver Springs; two brothers, John, Pierre, S.D., and Joseph, LaVale; three sisters, Regina Dowling, Mich., Theresa Nixon, Florida, and Angela Heltzel, Cumberland; and two grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial was held for Mr. Pellerzi at St. Bernadette's Catholic Church.

Interment with full military honors was in the Gate of Heaven cemetery, Silver Spring.

LENA D. MARKWOOD
CUMBERLAND - Lena D. Markwood, 87, formerly of Corriganville and Cumberland, died Thursday, April 3, 1997, at Westmoreland Manor Nursing Home, Greensburg, Pa.
Born Dec. 29, 1909, at Mount Savage, she was a daughter of the late Frank W. and B. Gertrude (Witt) Delbrook. She also was preceded in death by two sisters, Grace and Erma Delbrook.

Mrs. Markwood was employed for more than 25 years at the Tots to Teens Store, Cumberland. She was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ, Corriganville.

Surviving are a daughter, Shirley M. Conway and husband Robert, Latrobe, Pa.; three grandchildren, Michael Conway, John Conway and Helene Long; five great-grandchildren; a sister, Bertha Stahl, Berlin, Pa.; and two brothers, George Clinton Delbrook and wife Stella, Frederick, and Calvin Delbrook and wife Margaret, Winter Park, Fla.

Friends will be received at the Harvey H. Zeigler Funeral Home, Hyndman, on Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., and at the church for one hour prior to the service.

Services will be conducted at the St. John's United Church of Christ on Saturday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Ruth S. Kershner officiating.

Interment will be in Wellersburg cemetery.

Memorials may be sent to the American Cancer Society, or the Alzheimer Association, Laurel Mountain Chapter, 1011 Old Salem Road, Greensburg, PA 15601.

MILDRED G. MARONEY
OAKLAND - Mildred G. Maroney, 78, of E. High St., Oakland, died Thursday, Feb. 13, 1997, at Garrett County Memorial Hospital, Oakland.
Born May 2, 1918, in Vindex, she was the daughter of the late Leonard and Lula (Stewart) Stark. She also was preceded in death by her husband, John W. Maroney Jr., in 1985.

Mrs. Maroney was employed by the Glen L. Martin Aircraft Manufacturing Co. during World War II, where she worked on the assembly line. She was a secretary to Totten Matthews Esq., an Oakland attorney, for many years. She was a graduate of the Oakland High School, Class of 1936.

A member of St. Peter's Catholic Church, Oakland, she was a member of the Oakland Chapter, Catholic Daughters of America; the McVeigh Holy Cross Club; and the Golden Chain. She was active in her church, where she helped prepare many meals for church-related activities.

Surviving are one daughter, Brigitta A. Barnes and husband Gordon, Columbia; one son, John R. Maroney and wife Linda, Oakland; one sister, Evelyn Kahl, Oakland; and four grandchildren, Amanda Barnes, Andrea Barnes, Chad Maroney and Beth Maroney.

Friends will be received at the Stewart Funeral Home, Oakland, on Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Peter's Catholic Church on Sunday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Father Richard Spencer as celebrant.

Interment will be in the Garrett County Memorial Gardens.

A Vigil Service will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday at 8 p.m.

The family requests that memorials take the form of contributions to the donor's favorite charity.

LEILA MARRA
ACCIDENT - Leila Speicher Marra, 83, of S. Main Street, Accident, died Thursday, March 6, 1997, at Garrett County Memorial Hospital, Oakland.
Born March 25, 1913, in Friendsville, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Nellie (Kline) Rodgers. She also was preceded in death by her first husband, Clayton Speicher, in 1977.

Mrs. Marra was a member of the Bear Creek Church of the Brethren, where she was a pianist, organist and member of the choir as well as the ladies group.

Surviving are her husband, Ted Marra; two sons, Bill Speicher, Austin, Texas, and Tom Speicher, Denver, Colo.; two daughters, Beverly Kline, Middletown, and Mary Ellen Rader, Wilmington, N.C.; two sisters, Phyllis Steele, Green Lawn, Long Island, N.Y., and Pauline Knieriem, Wheeling, W.Va.; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Home, McHenry, on Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the Bear Creek Church of the Brethren on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. with the Rev. William Shimer officiating.

Interment will be in the church cemetery.

The body will be taken to the church one hour prior to the services.

Expressions of sympathy may be directed to the Alzheimers Foundation.

ARLIE J. MARTIN
CUMBERLAND - Arlie James Martin, 90, of Potomac Street, Cumberland, formerly of Virginia Avenue, died Tuesday, June 10, 1997, at Memorial Hospital.
Born June 14, 1906, in Grafton, W.Va., he was the son of the late James and Susan (Cline) Martin. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Agnes Martin, in 1994; and two daughters, Shirley Jean Smith, and Betty Jane Lee; two sisters; and five brothers.

Mr. Martin retired from the Celanese Corp., Cumberland, after 42 years of service. He was a member of Emmanuel Bethel United Methodist Church, and the Cumberland Moose 271.

Surviving are two sons, James A. Martin and wife Linda, and Donald L. Martin and wife Mary, all of Cumberland; two daughters, Rosemary Stotler and husband Lewis, Darlington, and Carol Gross and husband Leroy, Cumberland; two sisters, Hazel Jewell, and Margarite Ford, both of Grafton, W.Va.; 15 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, 108 Virginia Ave., Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the funeral home Friday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Robert L. Nair officiating.

Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
