EDWARD R. MARTIN, JR.
BALTIMORE - Edward Raymond Martin Jr., 27, of Baltimore, died Saturday, Sept. 6, 1997, at Sinai Hospital, Baltimore.
Born July 29, 1970, in Cumberland, he was the son of Edward R. and Linda D. (Fortney) Martin.

Mr. Martin was an admissions facilitator for Johns Hopkins Hospital. He was a Methodist by faith, a 1988 graduate of Allegany High School, and a graduate of Frostburg State University where he received his degree in business administration.

Surviving in addition to his parents are one sister, Melinda K. Pyles and husband Scott, Fayetteville, N.C., maternal grandmother, Helen M. Fortney, Bel Air; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Monday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Wayne R. Turner officiating.

Interment will be in Martin's cemetery, Little Orleans.

Pallbearers will be Brian Powell, Jim Staples, Jerry Staples, Steve Shreve, Kevin Shreve, and J.R. Burkey.

FRANCES V. MARTIN
OAKLAND - Frances V. Martin, 77, of Oakland, died Saturday, August 2, 1997, at Garrett County Memorial Hospital, Oakland.
Born May 10, 1920, in Masontown, W.Va. She was a daughter of the late Marshall Cress and Edna (Michael) Cress. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Darrell O. Martin, in 1980.

Surviving are four daughters, Helen Gearhart, Baltimore, Nancy Hoover, Cresaptown, Sue Bittinger and Donna Nordeck, both of Oakland; one son, Darrell ``J.R." Martin, also of Oakland; 12 grandchildren; and 11 great- grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the Durst Funeral Home, Oakland, on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Monday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Michael Robinson officiating.

Interment will be in Garrett County Memorial Gardens.

The family requests memorials take the form of contributions to the Southern Rescue Squad or the Garrett County Memorial Hospital Foundation.

PEARL MARTIN
MOUNTAIN LAKE PARK - Pearl Martin, 79, of 213 E St., Mountain Lake Park, died Thursday, March 13, 1997, at her home.
Born Jan. 11, 1918, in Aurora, W.Va., she was a daughter of the late Oras Snyder and Goldie (White) Snyder. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Martin, in 1961; one stepson, Randall Martin; and two stepdaughters, Eva "Kitty" Martin and Rhea "Peggy" Brady. Mrs. Martin was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church.

Surviving are one son, Carl D. Martin, Mountain Lake Park; one stepson, Denver Martin, Straughn, Ind.; five daughters, Judy Umstot, Oakland, Elma Rodeheaver, Cumberland, Dean Wilson and Kela Martin, both of Mountain Lake Park, and Lenora Reams, Oakland; four stepdaughters, Blanche Kiser and Norma Koslap, both of Lodi, N.J., Eula Mae Samara, Clifton, N.J., and Vida McCrobie, Deer Park; four brothers, Delmar Snyder, Mountain Lake Park, Frank Snyder, Aurora, Earl Snyder, Rowlesburg, W.Va., and Clarence Snyder, York, Pa.; one sister, Freda Bolyard, Arthurdale, W.Va.; nine grandchildren; 17 step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several step-great-grandchildren.

Friends may call at the Durst Funeral Home, Oakland, on Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be conducted at St. John's Lutheran Church, on Sunday at 3 p.m. with the Rev. William Connelly officiating.

Interment will be in St. John's cemetery.

The family requests that memorials take the form of contributions to Hospice of Garrett County.

HAZEL M. ROBINSON
CUMBERLAND - Hazel Marie Robinson, 82, of Grant Street, died Sunday, April 6, 1997, at Memorial Hospital.
Born Sept. 4, 1914, in Meyersdale, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Ruben and Catherine Landis. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Vance E. Robinson in 1982; two sisters and one brother. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Mrs. Robinson was a homemaker. She was a member of Kingsley United Methodist Church.

Surviving are two sons, Edward L. Robinson, Cumberland, and Dale Lantz, Louisville, Ohio; one daughter, Kathy Ritchie, Detroit, Mich.; five grandchildren, Tammy, Mary, Robin, Debbie and Faith; and a number of great-grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, 108 Virginia Ave., on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the funeral home Wednesday at noon with the Rev. Richard H. Jewell officiating.

Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.

ROBERT J. MARTIN, SR.
LAVALE - Robert J. Martin Sr., 69, of LaVale, died Sunday, Aug. 31, 1997, at Memorial Hospital, Cumberland.
Born Dec. 30, 1927, in Johnstown, Pa., he was a son of the late Lester R. and Catherine (Jones) Martin. He also was preceded in death by a son, Randall L. Martin; and father-in-law, Daniel A. Langer.

Mr. Martin was the founder and owner of Potomac Valley Pharmacy Inc., was a member of Fort Cumberland Lodge No. 211 AF&AM;, Cumberland Scottish Rite and York Rite Bodies, past potentate of the Ali Ghan Shrine Temple in 1976, a member of the Ali Ghan Motor Corp, Cumberland Court No. 117 Royal Order of Jesters. He was on the Board of Directors of Allegany County League for Crippled Children, was chairman of the Allegany County Civil Service Commission, Cumberland, was a member of Cumberland Country Club, a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, and various other Republican and fraternal organizations. He was a 1945 graduate of Allegany High School, a 1952 graduate of the University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy, and a U.S. Navy veteran.

Surviving are his wife of 51 years, Martha Lee (Langer) Martin; two sons, Robert J. Martin and wife Bonnie, Cumberland, and Larry R. Martin and wife Peggy, Columbus, Ohio; two brothers, Jack B. Martin and wife Sue, Somerset, Pa., and Edward L. Martin and wife Barbara, Marietta, Ga., his mother-in-law, Margaret J. Langer, Cumberland; sister-in-law, Mary Margaret Dormio, Cumberland; five grandchildren, Stacey L. Martin, Cumberland, Brian R. Martin, Baltimore, Tiffany Martin, Chicago, Ill., Jaime L. Martin, East Lansing, Mich., Jennifer J. Martin, Columbus, Ohio; 12 nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at the Hafer Chapel of the Hills Mortuary, 1302 National Highway, LaVale, on Tuesday from 2:30 to 4:30 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Funeral services will be conducted at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Cumberland, on Wednesday at 10 a.m. with Pastor John J. Duffus officiating. Friends will be received at the church one hour prior to the services.

Private family interment will be in Hillcrest Burial Park.

Pallbearers will be Bill Bowden, Jim Nave, Clifton Loar, Charlie Kreiling, Don Maloof, and Frances "Butch" Elliott. Honorary pallbearers will be past potentates of the Ali Ghan Shrine Temple.

The Ali Ghan Shrine Motor Corp will meet in a group at the funeral home on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

The family requests memorial contributions in Mr. Martin's memory be made to the Allegany County League for Crippled Children, Willow Brook Road, Cumberland, MD 21502, or to the Transportation Fund of the Ali Ghan Shrine Temple, P.O. Box 1416, Cumberland, MD 21502, or to the Franklin County Board of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities, Residential Planning and Support Services, 2879 Johnstown Road, Columbus, Ohio 43219 for the benefit of Jennifer Martin.

ALVIN M. RAY
CUMBERLAND - Alvin M. "Jack" Ray, 71, of Cumberland, died Wednesday, Sept. 10, 1997, at Memorial Hospital.
Born Dec. 12, 1925, in Cumberland, he was the son of Ida Pearl (Ballou) Ray, Clearview, Pa., and the late Hobert McKinley Ray. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Eleanor Eileen (Sweitzer) Ray in 1995; and one brother, Bobby Ray.

Mr. Ray was a World War II veteran having served in the U.S. Marines. He worked as a truck driver for Smith Transport. He previously worked for the Western Maryland Railroad. Mr. Ray was a member of the Teamsters Chauffeurs Local No. 453, Fort Cumberland Post No. 13 American Legion, and the Goodfellowship Club.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his daughter, Christine Ray, at home; his son, Stephen Ray, at home; one sister, Agnes Castleman, Cumberland; three brothers, Herb Ray, Cumberland, Glen Ray, Big Ben, Wis., and Merle Ray, Cumberland; three grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter; and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in=law.

Friends will be received at the George-Upchurch Funeral Home, 202 Greene St., Cumberland, on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be held at the funeral home on Friday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Dallas Forren officiating.

Interment will be in Maryland State Veterans cemetery at Rocky Gap.

Military honors will be accorded by the Combined Veterans Honor Guard.

TERESA A. MARTIN
MIDLAND - Teresa Anne Martin, 72, of O'Mara Avenue, Midland, died Wednesday, May 28, 1997, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born March 6, 1925, at Frostburg, she was a daughter of the late John Patrick McMahon Sr. and Helen (Stakem) McMahon. She also was preceded in death by her husband, James Edward Martin, in 1971; two sisters; and one brother. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Mrs. Martin was a graduate of Allegany Community College in secretarial science. She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Midland; St. Joseph's sodality; and the Midland Ladies Auxiliary Volunteer Fire Co.

Surviving are one daughter, Carol Brockey and husband Jeffrey, Catonsville; two sons, Raymond James Martin and wife Tina, Fairmont, W.Va., and Joseph Bernard Martin, Arnold; two grandchildren, Adam Jay Martin and Eric Jay Martin; and a close personal friend, Jack Brockey.

Friends will be received at the Eichhorn-McKenzie Funeral Home on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Funeral mass will be held at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Midland, on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. with Father Jim Hannon officiating.

Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park, Cumberland.

A Christian wake service will be held at the funeral home on Friday at 7:30 p.m.

A joint memorial service by Midland Volunteer Fire Co. and the Ladies Auxiliary will be held at the funeral home on Friday at 8:30 p.m.
