SAMUEL F. MCGOWAN
WARREN, Mich. formerly of MIDLAND, Md. - Samuel F. McGowan, 70, of Warren, formerly of Midland, died Saturday, July 19, 1997, at Bi-County Community Hospital, Warren.
Born Aug. 28, 1926, in Belaire, Ohio, he was the son of the late Samuel and Mary A. (Farrell) McGowan. He also was preceded in death by one sister, Catherine Vadnais.

Mr. McGowan was a retired supervisor for Ludington News. He was a US Army veteran of the Korean conflict. He was a member of the St. Florian Catholic Church and Commander of the Polish Legion of American Veterans Post 1.

Surviving are one brother, Joseph McGowan and wife Judith, Westernport; two sisters, Margaret Dawson, Clarysville, and Geraldine Livingston, Frostburg; numerous nieces and nephews; a special friend, Dorothy LaBuda; and many friends.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, Cresaptown, on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the St. Michael's Catholic Church on Thursday at 10 a.m. with the Father William Moody as celebrant.

Interment will be in the St. Joseph cemetery, Midland. Military honors will be accorded by the Farrady Post 24 American Legion.

Pallbearers will be Mark McGowan, Tom Dawson, Mike Dawson, Sam Livingston, Kenny Livingston and Kerry Livingston.

EDWARD B. MCGRAW
CUMBERLAND - Edward Bernard McGraw, 75, of 627 Lincoln St., Cumberland, died Thursday, April 3, 1997, at the Memorial Hospital Hospice Unit.
Born Nov. 21, 1921, in Simpson, W.Va., he was the son of the late John P. McGraw and the late Margaret (Bahen) McGraw. He also was preceded in death by two brothers, Francis McGraw and John J. McGraw; a sister, Julia Becker; and a brother-in-law, C. Merle Zembower.

Mr. McGraw was a retired employee of Ankeney Co. He was a 1941 graduate of LaSalle High School, and a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church. He was very active in Little League Baseball and served as manager/coach of the Little League White Sox. He was a member of K of C 586; Cumberland Eagles 245; and Dapper Dan Club of Allegany County, where he served on the executive board and two terms as president. In 1975 he was named Dapper Dan Manager of the Year, and in 1982 was named Dapper Dan Man of the Year. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Air Force, and participated in the China/Burma/India operations.

Surviving are his wife, Helen (Zembower) McGraw, Cumberland; a son, Timothy Edward McGraw and wife Holly (Moore), Cumberland; a daughter, Kathleen McGraw McIlvaine and husband Jim, Frederick; a sister, Anne McGraw Callahan, Cumberland; in-laws, Irma and Harold Fearer, Ruth Zembower, and Glenn and Joy Zembower; long-time friend, John L. Sullivan; and the joy of the last seventeen months of his life, his granddaughter, Olivia Kathleen McGraw, Cumberland. Also included are the many young people whose lives he touched and enhanced during his lifetime.

Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Patrick's Catholic Church on Monday at 9 a.m. with Father Frank J. Brauer officiating.

A Christian Wake Service will be held at the funeral home on Sunday at 3 p.m.

Interment will be in the Maryland State Veterans cemetery at Rocky Gap. Full military rites will be accorded at the graveside by local veterans organizaions.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Dapper Dan of Allegany County, P.O. Box 1332, Cumberland, MD 21502.

EUGENE J. MCGREEVY
CUMBERLAND - Eugene James McGreevy, 72, of Cumberland, died Friday, August 8, 1997, at the University of Maryland Hospital, Baltimore.
Born February 9, 1925, in Davis, W.Va., he was the son of the late Owen P. and Agnes C. (Byrne) McGreevy. He also was preceded in death by five brothers and sisters.

Mr. McGreevy was retired from Pittsburgh Plate Glass Company. He was a graduate of Allegany High School. Mr. McGreevy served in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of World War II. He was a member of the 69th Infantry Division, 880th Field Artillery Headquarters Battery. Mr. McGreevy was also a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Cumberland Council No. 586.

Surviving are his wife, Carolyn L. (Murray) McGreevy, Cumberland; two sons, Lawrence P. McGreevy and wife DeEtta, LaVale, and Matthew W. McGreevy and wife Shawna, Columbus, Ohio; one daughter, Mitzi C. Giles and husband Mark, LaVale; two brothers, Edward "Ted" McGreevy and wife Jo, Cumberland; Robert L. McGreevy and wife Marian, Cumberland; two sisters, Agnes C. Kienhofer, Cumberland, and Nancy Bankard and husband Dick, Westminster; and five grandchildren, Eileen E. McGreevy, Patrick S. McGreevy, Erin M. Giles, Matthew S. McGreevy, and William J. Giles.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, 108 Virginia Avenue, Cumberland, on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. At Mr. McGreevy's request, he will be cremated. His body will not be present at the funeral home when the family receives friends on Monday.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Cumberland, on Tuesday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Thomas R. Bevan as celebrant.

Interment will be in Maryland State Veterans cemetery at Rocky Gap.

A prayer service will be held at the funeral home on Monday at 9 p.m.

BUENNA E. McGREGOR (Services)
LONACONING - A memorial Mass for Buenna E. McGregor, 76, of Jackson Street, Lonaconing, who died Dec. 29, 1996, will be celebrated at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Lonaconing, on Saturday, May 3, 1997, at 6 p.m. with Father James Hannon as celebrant.
The Eichhorn-McKenzie Funeral Home, Lonaconing, is in charge of the arrangements.

WINONA T. PHILLIPS
RAWLINGS - Winona Thelma Phillips, 84, of Rawlings, died Sunday, Sept. 21, 1997, at Sacred Heart Hospital Hospice, Cumberland.
Born Jan. 28, 1913, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late William and Pearl (Chidester) Albright. She also was preceded in death by one brother, Theodore Albright.

Mrs. Phillips was an excellent cook and homemaker until her illness. She was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church, Cresaptown.

Surviving are her husband, Irwin C. Phillips; one daughter, Judy Currence and husband Ken, Rawlings; one sister, Lillie Mae Fertig, Cumberland; one brother, Ward Albright, LaVale; three granddaughters, Lauren Currence, Rawlings; Janet Wagoner and husband Marvin, Hanscom Air Force Base, Mass., and Kimberly Knott and husband Steve, Mt. Home Air Force Base, Idaho; five great-grandchildren, Brandon Magnuson, Brittany Currence, Jonathan Knott, Samantha Knott, and Zachary Wagoner.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, Cresaptown, on Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. and on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Wednesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Mark Peterson officiating.

Interment will be in Biertown cemetery, Rawlings.

PAULINE PICKENS
PITTSBURGH - Pauline (Beamer) Pickens, 99, of Pittsburgh, formerly of Cumberland, died Monday, Nov. 10, 1997, at Pittsburgh.
A former resident of Cumberland, Mrs. Pickens still maintained a home there.

She was a 1921 graduate of Wellesley College.

Funeral services were held Thursday, Nov. 13, 1997, in Pittsburgh.

RITA M. MCKAY
FROSTBURG - Rita M. McKay, 73, of Frostburg, died Wednesday, Oct. 15, 1997, at her home.
Born May 2, 1924, in Uniontown, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Anthony and Philomena Lambo. She also was preceded in death by four brothers and one sister.

Mrs. McKay had worked for several years at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland. She was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, Frostburg. She moved to Frostburg when her husband became manager of the Berkowitz Pajama Factory.

Surviving are her husband, Richard McKay; two daughters, Carol DeRosa and husband, Anthony, Albany, N.Y., and Kathleen Clay and husband Don, Tega Cay, S.C.; one brother, Joseph Lambo, Baltimore; four grandchildren, Michele Ruf, Albany, N.Y., Renee Dorn, Spartanburg, S.C., Jerry DeRosa, Albany, N.Y., and Nicholas Clay, Tega Cay, S.C.; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at the Sowers Funeral Home on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Prayers will be recited at the funeral home on Friday at 7:30 p.m.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Michael's Catholic Church on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. with the Rev. Paul A. Byrnes as celebrant.

Entombment will follow in Sylvan Heights cemetery and Mausoleum, Uniontown.

The family requests memorial contributions may be made to St. Michael's Catholic School, Frostburg, MD 21532.

KENNETH E. RAPP
FROSTBURG - Kenneth E. Rapp, 84, of the St. Vincent de Paul Nursing Home, Frostburg, died Monday, July 28, 1997, at Memorial Hospital, Cumberland.
Born April 15, 1913, in Ambridge, Pa. He was preceded in death by his wife Reva E. (Leatherman) Rapp, in 1996.

Mr. Rapp was a member of the Doric Masonic Lodge, Sewickley, Pa. He retired as a Quality Control Engineer.

Surviving are one son, Neal Rapp, Mass.; four daughters, Geraldine "Geri" Jenne, Pittsburgh, Pa., Betty Lynn Krause, Hudson, Ohio, Maxine Budkey, Leetsdale, Pa., and Debra Stanley, Allison Park, Pa.; one stepdaughter, Linda Oates, Keyser, W.Va., and one brother, Charles Rapp, Roselle Park, N.J.

Friends will be received at the Leasure-Stein Funeral Home on Thursday from noon to 1 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Thursday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Steven H. Shussett officiating.

Interment will be in the Sunset Memorial Park.
