IRVIN NEAT JR.
CHARITON, Iowa - Irvin "Joe" Neat Jr., 44, of Chariton, died Friday, July 11, 1997, at his residence.
Born April 21, 1953, in Frostburg, Md., he was the son of the late Irvin J. Neat Sr. and Theresa C. Winner, and his step father James M. Lowery.
Mr. Neat was the District Conservationist for the Iowa State Department of Agriculture. He was a US Marine veteran of Vietnam and served in the Army Reserves during Operation Desert Storm. He was a member of both the Maryland and Iowa National Guard, US Army Reserves, Lucas County Conservation Board, Chariton River Greenbelt Foundation, Lucas County Soil Conservation Governing Board, Rathbun and Whitebreast Watershed Committees, and was instrumental in developing the Pin Oak Marsh Project, Pheasants Forever.
Surviving are three sons, Lamont Neat and James Hibbert, Perry, Iowa, and Andy Neat, Okinawa, Japan; fiancee, Linda Johnson, Newton; three brothers, Martin Neat, James Lowery and David Lowery; two sisters, Patricia Merrbach and Rose Ann Merrill.
Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Chariton, on Tuesday.
Closing prayers will be held at the Durst Funeral Home, Frostburg, Md., on Friday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. William Moody officiating.
Interment will be in the Frostburg Memorial Park.
Military honors will be conducted graveside by the Farrady Post 24 American Legion Honor Guard.
PHILLIP E. NATALE
SYDNEY, Australia - Phillip Eugene Natale, 25, of Sydney, died Friday in Australia.
Born June 19, 1971, in Cumberland, he was the son of Linda (Flanagan) Natale of Australia, and the late Terrence E. Natale, formerly of Cumberland, who died Nov. 7, 1977, in Perth, Australia. He was also preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Eugene Natale in 1991.
Phillip was born in Cumberland, but moved to Australia when he was very young when his father went abroad to teach. His father died suddenly in Australia when he was only 26.
The loss of someone so young, loving and kind as Phillip robs the earth, all too soon, of a gentle soul. He was full of life, outgoing and gentle.
In addition to his mother he is survived by his maternal grandmother, Anita Natale, Cumberland; paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Flanagan, McLean, Va., and an uncle, Robert C. "Bo" Natale of Derwood.
Interment will be in Sydney, Australia.
VIRGINIA R. OBENSHAIN
RAWLINGS - Virginia R. Obenshain, 80, of 23107 McMullen Highway, Rawlings, died Friday, Nov. 28, 1997, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland.
Born July 24, 1917, in Roanoke, Va., she was the daughter of the late John and Maude (Nofsinger) Reynolds.
Mrs. Obenshain was a homemaker. She was a member of the Dawson United Methodist Church.
Surviving are her husband, Rufus Obenshain; two sons, Larry Obenshain and Donald Obenshain, both of Keyser, W.Va.; one daughter, Nancy Messer, Manassas, Va.; two brothers, John Reynolds and Wesley Reynolds, both of Roanoke, Va.; two sisters, Mary Lou Carr, Philadelphia, Pa., and Merle Luck, Roanoke, Va.; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport, on Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. The body will then be taken to the Rader Funeral Home, Buchanan, Va., where friends will be received on Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be held at the Rader Funeral Home, Buchanan, Va., on Monday at 11 a.m.
Interment will be in Fairview cemetery, Buchanan, Va.
MELVA L. REINHART
CUMBERLAND - Melva L. Reinhart, 89, of Lions Manor Nursing Home, Cumberland, died Thursday, Dec. 4, 1997, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born Jan. 7, 1908, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late Lawrence and Elsie (Zembower) Meister. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph H. Reinhart Jr.; three brothers, Charles R. "Bud" Meister, John Meister, and Thomas E. Meister; four sisters, Eleanor Hazelton, Ruth Hartman, Ann Bloom, and Jean Meister; and one grandson, Jerome Donahue.
Mrs. Reinhart was a former employee of the C&P; Telephone Company and was retired as a sales clerk at Peskins. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church.
Surviving are one son, Robert H. Reinhart, Esquire, and wife Nadine, Cumberland; one daughter, Joan L. Donahue and husband Dr. John K., Elizabeth, N.J.; one brother, Robert H. Meister, Cumberland; one sister, Sue M. Blades, Churchville; eight grandchildren, Lezlie A. Hutcheson, Lisa R. Growden, Beth J. Gaydeski, Ann R. Creegan, all of Cumberland; Kathy R. Zambreny, San Carlos, Calif., Dr. John K. Donahue Jr., Joseph R. Donahue, Esquire, and Brian Donahue, all of Elizabeth, N.J.; and six great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Cumberland, on Monday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. John J. Duffus officiating. Friends will be received at the church from 10 to 11 a.m.
Interment will be in SS Peter and Paul cemetery, Cumberland.
Pallbearers will be grandsons.
SHIRLEY L. O'BRIEN
SWANTON - Shirley L. O'Brien, 61, of Bittinger Road, Swanton, died Wednesday, Sept. 10, 1997, at Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh, Pa.
Born June 28, 1936, in Vindex, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Maude (Rowan) Rohrbaugh. She also was preceded in death by two brothers, Oliver R. Rohrbaugh and Donald K. Rohrbaugh.
She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Meadow Mountain.
She was the loving wife of Everett E. O'Brien; the loving mother of Lisa Broadwater and husband Michael, Grantsville, Sherry Martin and husband Ames, Sr., Wheatfield, Ind., and Donald O'Brien and wife Diana, Swanton; loving sister of Jacqueline O'Brien and husband Randall, Rawlings, Mona Schultz, Loch Lynn, Karen Strain, Hampton, Va., R. Leo Rohrbaugh and wife Claudine, Valdosta, Ga., Glenn Rohrbaugh and wife Suzanne, Lovettsville, Va., and Richard Rohrbaugh and wife Dianne, Hampton, Va.; a devoted grandmother of Maria, Kassie, Elizabeth, Abigal, Katie, Ethan, Ames Jr., Mollie, and Josiah; and a dearly loved aunt to her many nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Stewart Funeral Home, Oakland, on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be held at St. John's Lutheran Church, Meadow Mountain, on Saturday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Mark Klawonn and the Rev. Dave Childs officiating. Friends may call at the church one hour prior to services.
Interment will be in Pleasant Valley cemetery.
RICHARD W. OLIVIER
DALLAS, Ga. - Richard Wilson Olivier, one year old son of Toni and Richard Olivier, Dallas, died Feb. 21, 1997, at his home.
Surviving in addition to his parents are one sister, Samantha Olivier, Dallas; paternal grandparents, the Rev. and Mrs. Rene Olivier, Hagerstown, Md.; maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Bink Wilson, Grasonville, Md.; paternal great-grandmother, Mrs. Linne Cantrell, Cincinnati, Ohio; maternal great-grandmother, Gertrude Bottari, Bronxville, N.Y.; and maternal great-grandparents, Dr. and Mrs. Richard Bolyard, Cumberland, Md.
Services were held on Feb. 24, 1997, in Hiram, Ga.
MARY E. O'ROURKE
TUCSON, Ariz. - Mary Esther O'Rourke, 62, of Tucson, died Feb. 8, 1997, at Vencor Hospital, Tucson.
Born May 30, 1934, in Frostburg, Md., she was a daughter of the late Pat and Veronica (Stakem) O'Rourke. She also was preceded in death by a brother, Edward.
Mary Esther graduated from Ursuline Academy in 1952 and Sacred Heart School of Nursing in 1955. She moved to Arizona in 1962 where she was employed as a nurse at the Papago Indian Reservation and later at the Tucson Medical Center. In recent years she had been employed by various hospitals in the Tucson area.
Surviving is her sister-in-law Jane O'Rourke, LaVale, Md.
At her own request, she was cremated.
A memorial Mass will be held at Saint Michaels Catholic Church, Frostburg, Md, Saturday, March 1, 1997, at 5 p.m.
ALICE J. O'TOOLE
RALEIGH, N.C. - Alice Jean O'Toole, 69, of Raleigh, died Monday, Nov. 24, 1997, at her residence.
Born May 1, 1928, in Cumberland, Md., she was the daughter of the late Vincent and Sarah Borgman.
Surviving are her husband, Thomas J. O'Toole, Raleigh; one son, Thomas J. O'Toole Jr., Raleigh; two daughters, Rebecca Kathleen Cornwell, Wilmington, and Jennifer Elizabeth O'Toole, Creedmoor; two sisters, Virginia Tiede, Raleigh, and Rebecca Brookes, Burlington, Vt.; and one granddaughter, Savannah Cornwell, Wilmington.
Graveside services will be held at the Oakwood cemetery, Raleigh, on Friday at 2 p.m.
Interment will follow.
