JULIAN A. ROTRUCK
CUMBERLAND - Julian Allen "Big Al" Rotruck, 73, of Cumberland, died Monday, Nov. 3, 1997, at Memorial Hospital.
Born Aug. 20, 1924, in Keyser, W.Va., he was the son of the late Walter Edward and Blanche (Taylor) Rotruck. He also was preceded in death by his loving wife of 48 years, Margaret K. (Stein) Rotruck.

Mr. Rotruck was a retired yard master for Western Maryland Railroad with 45 years of service. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving Company G of Cumberland 29th Division, 115th Infantry. While serving in World War II, he was involved in the Normandy Invasion. He was a member of Fort Cumberland Post No. 13 American Legion, Henry Hart Post No. 1411 VFW, and the 29th Division Association.

Big Al and Margaret were active supporters of Pee Wee Football, Little League Baseball, and Allegany High School Sports Programs. A loving husband and father, Big Al was admired by many people and will be sadly missed by all. He was a member of the Bethel Church of the Nazarene.

Surviving are four sons, Walter E. "Bing" Rotruck and wife Glenda, Bedford, Va., Michael S. Rotruck, Winchester, Va., Joseph A. Rotruck, Cumberland, and Steven S. Rotruck and wife Angela, Paw Paw, W.Va.; three daughters, Charlene A. Yates, Cumberland, Karen A. Tilson and husband Arthur, Cumberland, and Kimberly L. Long and husband Jim, Winchester, Va.; four brothers, Bill, Don, Bob, and Jim Rotruck, all of Cresaptown; a sister, Shirley McKee, Cumberland; 19 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; four very special friends, Miriam Jackson, Cumberland, Ruth Blonskey, Cumberland, Madeline Knapp, Cumberland, and Jack Neiry Jr., Cumberland; and man's best friend and faithful companions, Gomer, Dump, Gypsey, and Troubles.

A memorial service will be held at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Thursday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. David F. Dayhoff officiating.

Interment will be in Rest Lawn Memorial Gardens.

Military honors will be accorded at the graveside by the Combined Veterans Honor Guard.

Mr. Rotruck's request was that memorials be made to the Bethel Church of the Nazarene or to the Animal Welfare Society.

VIOLET L. ROUNDS
BARTON - Violet L. Rounds, 75, of High Street, Barton, died Monday, June 30, 1997, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born May 23, 1922, in Garrett County, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Sara Catherine (Wilt) Broadwater. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Frederick N. Rounds; a son, Eugene A. Rounds; and a brother, Alonzo Broadwater.

Mrs. Rounds was a member of Women of the Moose, Frostburg.

Surviving are one son, Dale Rounds and wife Peachie, Barton; two daughters, Shirley Custer and husband Charles "Bugs," Barton, Sandra Wallbaum, Atlanta, Ga.; four grandsons, Fred Rounds and Tim Rounds, both of Barton, Geoffrey Goodrich and wife Lois, Street, and Chad Custer, Barton; one granddaughter, Robin Miller and husband David, Florida; one great-grandson, Geoffrey Goodrich Jr.; two great-granddaughters, Chelsea and Brittiney Goodrich; three brothers, Melvin Broadwater and Russell Broadwater, both of Grantsville, and Irvin Broadwater, Canton, Ohio; and one sister, Vera Wiland, Frostburg.

Friends will be received at the Boal Memorial Chapel, Barton, on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be at Barton Presbyterian Church on Thursday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Vernon Gauthier officiating. The body will be taken to the church one hour prior to the service.

Interment will be in Rest Lawn Memorial Gardens, LaVale.

Pallbearers will be Fred Rounds, Tim Rounds, Geof Goodrich, Chad Custer, Charles Custer, and George Broadwater.

MATILDA A. ROWE
FROSTBURG - Matilda A. Rowe, 83, of 135 McCulloh St., Frostburg, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, Oct. 9, 1997.
Born June 12, 1914, in Gilmore, she was the daughter of the late Elijah M. and Clarabell (Clise) Beeman. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Alexander M. Rowe; one daughter, Ruth Strube; one daughter-in-law, Carolyn Rowe; and sons-in-law, Pat Garlitz and Wilbert Durst.

Mrs. Rowe was formerly employed in the Bobbin Department of the Celanese Corporation, and was a cook at the Princess Restaurant retiring after 28 years. She was a member of the Frostburg First Assembly of God Church.

Surviving are two daughters, Myrtle Rowe, with whom she resided, and Clara Durst, Frostburg; one son, Alexander "Pete" Rowe, Barton; two sisters, Goldie Richardson and husband Osborne, Wrights Crossing, and Rachel Michaels, Eckhart; one brother, Harry Beeman, Lonaconing; five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at the Durst Funeral Home, Frostburg, on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the Frostburg Assembly of God Church on Saturday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. H. Eddie Schaidt officiating. The body will be taken to the church one hour prior to the service.

Interment will be in Oakhill cemetery, Lonaconing.

The family requests memorials take the form of contributions to the family or to the Frostburg Assembly of God Church.

CHARLES E. RUCKMAN
CUMBERLAND - Charles Edgar Ruckman, 74, of the Queen City Towers, Cumberland, died Thursday, Oct. 9, 1997 at the V.A. Medical Center, Martinsburg, W.Va.
Born Nov. 4, 1922 in Mineral County, W.Va. he was the son of the late William E. Ruckman and Estella Virginia (Gray) Ruckman.

He also was preceded in death by his wife, Norma Lea (Campbell) Ruckman; one daughter; one sister, Delores Strickland; and three brothers, Roy Ruckman, Jim Ruckman, and Raymond Ruckman.

On Dec. 8, 1941 Mr. Ruckman was the first Cumberland resident to enlist in the U.S. Navy for World War II. During his 10 years of service, he was a Ship Serviceman Third Class, serving on the USS Housatonic, USS Earle, USS Yorktown CV-10, USS Roby, and USS Hollis.

Mr. Ruckman worked as a mixologist in Cumberland for 25 years. He had been employed at the Alibi Club, Cumberland Country Club, Ali Ghan Shrine Club, Fort Cumberland Hotel, and the Holiday Inn.

He was a member of Fort Washington Chapter #2, D.A.V.; Henry Hart Post #1411, V.F.W.; Fort Cumberland Post #13, American Legion; and the L.O.O.M., Martinsburg, W.Va.

Survivors include two sons, Charles E. Ruckman, Jr., Haise, Va., and Maurice William Ruckman, Short Gap, W.Va.; three brothers, Gerald Ruckman, Ridgeley, W.Va., William Ruckman, Knobley Road, Ridgeley, and Richard Ruckman, Wiley Ford, W.Va.; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren; and his special family of Mildred and Clarence Clites, Marie, Tim, Lisa, Carl, Adam, Daniel, Bethany, and Destiny.

Friends will be received at the George-Upchurch Funeral Home, 202 Greene St., Cumberland, on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

The funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Monday, Oct. 13, 1997 at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Benny Brakeall officiating.

Interment will be in Restlawn Memorial Gardens.

Military honors will be accorded by the combined veterans honor guard.

Fort Washington Post #2, D.A.V. will conduct a memorial service at the funeral home on Sunday at 3:30 p.m.

ESTELLA V. RUCKMAN
CUMBERLAND - Estella V. Ruckman, 92, of Wills Creek Avenue, formerly of Wiley Ford, W.Va., died Wednesday, April 9, 1997, at Memorial Hospital.
Born Feb. 2, 1905, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late Susan Gray Frantz. She also was preceded in death by her husband William E. Ruckman, in 1972; three sons, Roy I., James H., and Raymond E. Ruckman; and one brother, Raymond Frantz.

Mrs. Ruckman was a homemaker. She was a member of Kingsley United Methodist Church and Wiley Ford Church of the Brethren.

Surviving are four sons, Charles E. Ruckman, Martinsburg, W.Va., Gerald V. Ruckman and wife Agnes, Ridgeley, W.Va., William A. Ruckman and wife Judy, Keyser, W.Va., and Richard L. Ruckman and wife Phillis, Wiley Ford, W.Va.; one daughter, Delores Strickland and husband Floyd, Fayettesville, N.C.; 23 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Friends will be received at Scarpelli Funeral Home, 108 Virginia Ave., Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the funeral home Saturday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Benny R. Brakeall officiating.

Interment will be in Zion Memorial Park, Cumberland.

JOHN J. RUFFO
FROSTBURG - John J. Ruffo, 87, of 100 Honeysuckle Lane, Frostburg, died Sunday, June 15, 1997, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born June 14, 1910, in Frostburg, he was the son of the late Antonio and Rosaria (Marra) Ruffo. He also was preceded in death by four sisters and four brothers.

Mr. Ruffo was a former employee of the Celanese and of Ruffo's Tavern and Grille, Mount Savage. He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church and Holy Name Society; an honorary life member of the Frostburg Council 1442 Knights of Columbus; Frostburg Moose No. 348; Midland Democrat Club; and the Frostburg Senior Citizens.

Surviving are his wife, Alice (Romesburg) Ruffo, Frostburg; two brothers, Joseph Ruffo, LaVale, and Carl Ruffo, Frostburg; one sister, Emma LaManna, Frostburg Village Nursing Home; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, Cresaptown, on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Christian wake service will be conducted on Monday at 8:30 p.m.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Michael's Catholic Church on Tuesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. William Moody as celebrant.

Interment will be in Union cemetery, Meyersdale, Pa.

The family requests memorials be directed to St. Michael's School.
