LUCILLE AGNES STEGMAIER
CUMBERLAND - Lucille Agnes Stegmaier, 81, of Cumberland, died Saturday, May 31, 1997, at Memorial Hospital, Cumberland.
Born March 31, 1916, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late George W. and Josephine Martin.
Mrs. Stegmaier retired from the Celanese Corporation, where she was employed as a textile worker for a period of 40 years. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Farm Bureau Ladies Auxiliary, and St. Mary's Sodality.
Surviving are her husband, Richard M. Stegmaier Sr., Cumberland; one son, Richard M. Stegmaier Jr. and wife Christine, Salisbury; one daughter, Judy A. Stegmaier, Cumberland; three brothers, Grover Martin, Cumberland, Ralph Martin and wife Louise, Cumberland, and G. Wellington Martin and wife Ruth, Frederick; one sister, Sister Kathleen Martin, MHSH, Baltimore; and three grandchildren, Sean, Seth, and Liane Stegmaier, Salisbury.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
A rosary will be conducted at 8:45 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Cumberland, on Wednesday at 9 a.m. with Father Milton A. Hipsley as celebrant.
Interment will be in St. Mary's cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Paul Donahue, Harold Martin, Ray Martin, Michael Martin, Daniel Martin, and Sean Stegmaier.
The family requests that contributions be made to St. Mary's Catholic Church.
ROBERTA C. LEWIS STEIGERWALD
CUMBERLAND - Roberta "Bertha" C. Michaels Lewis Steigerwald, died Friday, June 20, 1997, at Lions Manor Nursing Home.
Born August 2, 1904, in Barrelville, she was the daughter of the late Peter Paul and Minnie Margaret (Martens) Michaels. She also was preceded in death by her first husband, Jacob M. Lewis Jr.
Mrs. Steigerwald was a homemaker. She was a member of Potomac Park United Methodist Church, McKinley Chapter No. 12 Order of the Eastern Star, Ladies Shrine Club, VFW Ladies Auxiliary No. 1411 and Bowling Green Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary.
Surviving in addition to her husband, George T. Steigerwald, are her six children, Geneva C. Nave and husband Charles Arthur, Cumberland, Elroy M. Lewis and wife Elvira, Mount Home, Ark., Carlson P. Lewis and wife Ethel, Ellerslie, Audrey C. Manning, Marshfield, Mo., Patricia A. Lewis, Mountain Home, Ariz., Gary C. Lewis and wife Joyce, Chicago; a stepdaughter, Mary Ruppenkamp and husband Edward, LaVale; one sister, Viola Blank, Mount Savage; 17 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Leasure-Stein Funeral Home, 230 Baltimore Ave., Cumberland, on Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Monday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Harold T. Shaffer officiating.
Interment will be in Hill Crest Memorial Park, Cumberland.
Memorial services will be conducted at the funeral home by the McKinley Chapter No. 12 Order of the Eastern Star on Sunday at 7:30 p.m.
BESSIE V. STEIN
CUMBERLAND - Bessie V. Stein, 98, a patient at the Allegany County Nursing Home, formerly of 450 Walnut Street, Cumberland, died Friday, Nov. 14, 1997, at Memorial Hospital.
She was born July 25, 1899, in Moorefield, W.Va., the daughter of the late Isaac Reed and Kate Reed. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph W. Stein. Mrs. Stein was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Surviving are three nephews, Paul J. Stein, Lavale, Raymond Idleman, Pasadena, Md., and Scott Idleman, Mount Storm, W.Va.; one niece, Elsie Davis, Parsons, W.Va.; one great-niece, Kathy Howse, Augusta, W.Va.; two foster children, C. Dan Houck, Kingwood, W.Va., and Lucille H. Kerins, Sherborn, Mass.; five foster grandchildren; and two foster great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Leasure-Stein Funeral Home, 230 Baltimore Avenue, Cumberland, on Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Funeral Home on Monday at 11 a.m. with Dr. O. Morton Harris, Jr., officiating.
Interment will be in St. Mary's cemetery, Cumberland.
HILDA M. STEPHENS
CUMBERLAND - Hilda M. Stephens, 96, of Lincoln Street, Cumberland, died Tuesday, July 8, 1997, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born April 17, 1901, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late James Jones and Elizabeth (Hines) Jones. She also was preceded in death by her husband John Lewis Winfield Stephens Sr.; two sons, William Henry Stephens and Albert Stephens; two daughters, Ella Elizabeth Beckward and Gloria Sullivan; two brothers; and five sisters.
Mrs. Stephens was a member of the Metropolitan AME Church.
Surviving are two sons, John "June" Stephens Jr., Cumberland, Donald Stephens, Toledo, Ohio; three daughters, Juanita Smith, Toledo, Ohio, Georgia Martin, Somerset, Pa., and Delores Trimble, Cumberland; 21 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Leasure-Stein Funeral Home on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the Metropolitan AME Church on Friday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Gary N. Curtis officiating.
The body will be taken to the church one prior to services.
Interment will be in the Woodlawn cemetery, Cumberland.
Pallbearers will be Russell Trimble Jr., Leslie Trimble, Michael Stephens, Brian Smith Sr., Steve Trimble, Dennis Sullivan, James Martin III, Donald Stephens Jr. and John Stephens. Honorary pallbearers will be James Halsey Jr., Damian Fain, Raymond Washington and Brian Smith Jr.
SHAWN P. STERNBERG
SEVERN - Shawn Patrick Sternberg, 21, of Severn, died Tuesday, Oct. 7, 1997, as a result of an automobile accident while on active duty with the Maryland National Guard in Fargo, N.D.
Born Dec. 8, 1975, he was the loving son of Nancy A. (Lavin) and George P. Sternberg Jr.; loving brother of Traci Sternberg; devoted grandson of Marian Knieriem; devoted nephew of Patricia Wilson, Margaret White, Robert Lavin, and James Sternberg. He is also survived by many loving family members and countless friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to call at the Gary L. Kaufman Funeral Home at Meadowridge Memorial Park on Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

FLORENCE M. STERNER
LUTHERVILLE - Florence Mae (Burt) Sterner, 90, of 36 Thorn Hill Road, Lutherville, died Tuesday, June 3, 1997, at Egle Nursing Home, Lonaconing, where she had been a patient for two months.
Born Sept. 6, 1906, in Lonaconing, she was a daughter of the late James Burt Sr. and Janet (Allerdice) Burt. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence M. Sterner, on Dec. 2, 1961. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Mrs. Sterner was a graduate of Central High School, Lonaconing, and Frostburg Normal School, Frostburg. She was a former school teacher in Allegany County, a self employed hairdresser, and retired from Hutzler Department Store, Baltimore. She was a member of Towson Chapter 70 Order of the Eastern Star, Towson, and Zitta Temple 27 Daughters of the Nile. She was Presbyterian by faith.
Surviving are several nieces and nephews.
Her body was cremated.
Interment will be in Moreland Park cemetery, Baltimore.
The Eichhorn-McKenzie Funeral Home, Lonaconing, is in charge of the arrangements.
BARBARA A. STEVANS
PEMBROKE PINES, Fla. - Barbara "Bobbie" A. (Brown) Stevans, of Pembroke Pines, died Tuesday, July 1, 1997, at her home.
Born in Waynesburg, Va., she was the daughter of the late Martin and Eudora Brown. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Dawn Stevans.
A 34 year resident of Florida, formerly of Cumberland, she earned her nursing degree at Miami-Dade Community College and retired from Holy Cross Hospital. Mrs. Stevans worked at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland Nursing Home and Lions Manor Nursing Home while in Cumberland.
Surviving are her loving husband of 29 years, Ray Stevans; a daughter, Peggy Levine, Miami Beach; three sons, William Gulbronson, Hampton, Va., Rick Morgan and Mark Stevans, both of Pembroke Pines; one brother, James Brown, Corriganville; three sisters, Catherine Powell, Cumberland, Eunice McElfish, Fort Meyers, and Norma Welsh, Pembroke Pines; 10 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Friends were received and services were held at Fred Hunter's Hollywood Memorial Gardens Home, 6301 Taft St., Hollywood, Fla., on Friday, July 4, 1997.
