MARGARET A. STOKES
FLINTSTONE - Margaret A. Stokes, 86, of National Pike, Flintstone, died Sunday, May 18, 1997, at Memorial Hospital.
Born Jan. 16, 1911, in Mount Savage, she was the daughter of the late Carl and Maude (Crowe) Schurg. She also was preceded in death by her husband, James Abraham Stokes; a son, Upton E. Stokes; three sisters, Mildred Smeltzer, Emma Minke and Rosetta Schurg; one brother, Raymond Schurg; and two great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Stokes was a member of the Piney Plains United Methodist Church. She was a housewife.
Surviving are five sons, James Allen Stokes, Flintstone, William John Stokes, Augusta, W.Va., Robert Wayne Stokes, Charlotte Hall, Ervin Gene Stokes, Laurel, and Kenneth Richard Stokes, Flintstone; five daughters, Shirley Jane Smith, Flintstone, Dora Ann Bishop, Cumberland, Patricia Lee Leitzen, Flintstone, Janet Marie Stokes, San Pedro, Calif., and Jeanette Mary Miller, Cumberland; 27 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
Friends will be received at the Hafer Chapel of the Hills Mortuary, 1302 National Highway, LaVale, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be held at the Piney Plains United Methodist Church, Little Orleans, on Wednesday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Fred Iser officiating.
The body will be taken to the church one hour prior to the services.
Interment will follow in the Piney Plains United Methodist Church cemetery.
Pallbearers will be grandsons Rick Stokes, Robert Stokes, Jimmy Smith, Robert Stokes Jr., Dale Stokes and great-grandson Garry Roberts Jr.
CHARLOTTE L. STONE
CUMBERLAND - Charlotte L. Dietrich Stone, 87, of 820 Bishop Walsh Road, Cumberland, formerly of Hagerstown and Rancho Bernardo, San Diego, Calif., passed away on Sunday, Nov. 16, 1997, at Memorial Hospital Hospice Unit, Cumberland.
Born April 7, 1910, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Elmer George and Hannah Belle (Brandenburg) Dietrich. She also was preceded in death by her husband, C. Vernon Stone Jr., in 1984.
Mrs. Stone was a graduate of Hood College, Frederick, and the University of Wisconsin with a master's degree in library science. She held librarian positions at the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, Ark., and in Washington, D.C., ending her career as head of children's services at Washington County Free Library and branches in 1972. She was a lifelong member of the Christ Reformed Church, Hagerstown, where she was superintendent of the children's department and president of the board of education of the Sunday school.
She was the president of Hagerstown Hood Club, a charter member of Hagerstown AAUW, a volunteer in the gift shop of Washington County Hospital, and a member of the WGA of Fountain Head Country Club. She and her husband retired to Rancho Bernardo, San Diego, Calif., in 1973. While there, she was a member of Rancho Bernardo Community Presbyterian Church, where she was a circle leader and committee member. She also was a member of the WGA of Oaks North Golf Club, and volunteered at the gift shop of Pomerado Hospital, Poway, Calif.
Surviving are a daughter, Pamela Stone Hess and husband Gerald, Cumberland; two grandsons, Capt. P. David Hess and wife Dr. Lori (McDonald) Hess, U.S. Army, Fort Eustis, Va., and Jonathan Dietrich Hess and wife Kristine Lee (Peterson) Hess, Marietta, Ga.; and three great-grandchildren, Cassidy Marie Best, Emlenton, Pa., Brandon David Hess and Christopher Nathan Hess, both of Marietta, Ga.
A memorial service will be held at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Cumberland, on Friday, Nov. 21, 1997, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. John J. Duffus officiating. Friends will be received at the church from 10 a.m. to service time.
Memorials may be made to the Memorial Hospital Hospice Unit or to St. Paul's Lutheran Church.

RUTH H. STORER
FROSTBURG - Ruth Hines Storer, 92, of 100 Honeysuckle Lane, Frostburg, formerly of LaVale, died Tuesday, April 15, 1997, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born September 27, 1904, in Keyser, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Charles D. and Clara (Viets) Hines. She also was preceded in death by her husband, James C. Storer.
Mrs. Storer was retired from the Celanese Corp. She was Protestant by faith. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Surviving are several nieces and nephews; one brother-in-law; and one sister-in-law.
At Mrs. Storer's request, she was cremated.
A graveside service will be conducted at Hillcrest Memorial Park Monday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. George M. Harpold officiating.
Memorials may be donated to the charity of the donor's choice.

ANNA E. STORM
FROSTBURG - Anna E. Storm, 81, of Frostburg, died Monday, Nov. 10, 1997.
Born Sept. 1, 1916, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late Marvin L. and Emma (Krauss) Rice. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Carl G. Storm, in 1956.
Mrs. Storm was a member of Zion United Church of Christ where she was a member of the consistory and the choir for many years. She was a member of the Mountain Chapter Order of the Eastern Star, charter member of Re Temple Daughters of the Nile, and a member of the Frostburg Museum Association.
Surviving are two daughters, Carlinda Belcher, Darnestown, and Anna K. "Kathy" Taylor and husband Joseph, with whom she resided; and two sons, Frederick A. Storm, Bethesda, and Harry C. Storm and wife Kendall, Chevy Chase; seven grandchildren, Melanie and Evan Belcher, Jason, Jodie and Jessica Taylor, and Kathryn and Meredith Storm.
Friends will be received at the Zion United Church of Christ, 160 E. Main St., Frostburg, on Thursday from 10 to 11 a.m.
Services will be conducted at the church on Thursday at 11 a.m. with Pastor Diane M. Smith officiating.
Interment will be in the German Lutheran cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Zion United Church of Christ Memorial Fund.

FRANKLIN A. STOTT
SEAFORD, Del. - Franklin Albert Stott, 57, of Seaford, formerly of Trappe, Md., died at his home on Wednesday, July 16, 1997.
Born July 19, 1939, in Frostburg, Md., he was the son of the late John Norris and Dorothy (Bean) Stott.
Following his graduation from Beall High School in Frostburg in 1956, he enlisted in the U.S. Army. He served on active duty including three tours in Vietnam, two tours in Korea, and one tour in the Philippines as an infantryman and combat engineer. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal, Good Conduct Medal (sixth award), National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal (11 campaigns), Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal with 60 Device, Meritorious Unit Citation (1 OLC), and the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm. He rose to the rank of Field First Sergeant.
Following his retirement from the military in 1977, he and his wife, the former Hide Matayoshi, whom he married
on December 27, 1967, moved to the Trappe area. In 1989, they moved to Seaford.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Stott is survived by two daughters, Sally Ann Stott, Manassas, Va., and Naoko Stott Hagan, 29 Palms, Calif; a sister, Betty Marie Keeney, Easton; two half-brothers, Paul Croft, Ridgeley, W.Va. and William Croft, Frostburg; and four grandchildren.
Graveside memorial services will be held at Arlington National cemetery, Arlington, Va., on Tuesday, July 22, 1997, at 10 a.m.

OKEREDA C. MERRITT STOUFFER
CUMBERLAND - Okereda C. Merritt Stouffer, 83, of 13011 Mallard Street, SW, Cumberland, Md., died Sunday, Nov. 23, 1997, at Memorial Hospital.
Born Sept. 22, 1914, in Flats, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late John Henry Smith and the late Bessie Elizabeth (Smith) Smith. She also was preceded in death by two husbands, David Stanley Merritt and Delbert Stouffer; two brothers, Frank Smith and Creed Smith. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Mrs. Stouffer was a former employee of the Coca-Cola Bottling Works in Cumberland. She was a member of Cresaptown United Methodist Church, Mended Hearts Club, and Women's Republican Club.
Surviving are three sons, Stanley Junior Merritt and wife, Delores "Peggy," Purgitsville, W.Va., Dale L. Merritt and wife, Sue, Cumberland, and Ronald L. Merritt and wife, Carol, North Olmsted, Ohio; a favorite niece, Vicki Diaz and daughter, Jessica, Bel Air, Cumberland; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, 404 Decatur Street, Cumberland, on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
