DAVID C. SHADE SR.
LAVALE - David Correll Shade Sr., 54, of LaVale, died Thursday, July 31, 1997, at Nags Head, N.C.
Born November 30, 1942, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Melvin Correll and Genevieve (Barrett) Shade.
Dr. Shade was a 1960 graduate of Paw Paw High School. He attended Potomac State College and graduated from the University of West Virginia. He also was a graduate of West Virginia University Dental School in 1969. He was employed by the Huntington Cabell County Health Department. He opened his local office in Cumberland in July of 1970. His first office was located at 101 South Centre Street before he moved to his present location at 122 Bedford Street.
Dr. Shade was a member of the Cumberland Moose No. 271, the Cumberland Country Club, the American Dental Association, the Maryland State Dental Association, and the Allegany/Garrett County Dental Society.
Surviving are his wife, Joyce E. (Johnson) Shade; one son, David C. Shade II, Cumberland; three daughters, Dawn L. Jackson and husband Kyle Whetsel, Cumberland, Lisa L. Plant and husband Thomas, New Market, and Erin C. Jackson, Alexandria, Va.; five grandchildren, Jacob C. Shade, Cumberland, Nicholas D. Noechel, Alex David Noechel, Vanesah A. Noechel, and Riley Christine Plant; and one sister-in-law, Susan L. Gill and husband Clyde, Muscatine, Iowa.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, 108 Virginia Avenue, Cumberland, on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Tuesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Roger E. Tuning officiating.
Interment will be in Restlawn Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Rocky Stafford, Major Donald Moore, USMC, Andrew Sandler, Melvin K. Householder Jr., Cliff Hamilton, and Paul Barmoy.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the Memorial Hospital Auxiliary or the Foster Parents Association, in care of Ms. Rose, 4 Beachwood, Lonaconing, MD 21539.
CARRIE K. SHAFFER
CUMBERLAND - Carrie Katherine Shaffer, 89, of Paca Street, Cumberland, died Thursday, June 19, 1997, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born Oct. 19, 1907, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late Elijah and Bertha Johnson.
Mrs. Shaffer attended Park Place United Methodist Church, LaVale.
Surviving are her husband of 62 years, Paul E. Shaffer; two sisters, Frances Brant, Cumberland and Gertrude McCeleaf, Eustis, Fla.; nieces, Carrol Bower, Shirley Sines, Donna Antal, all of Cumberland; and two nephews, Raymond Johnson and Joseph Johnson, both of Florida; and several other nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Hafer Chapel of the Hills Mortuary, 1302 National Highway, LaVale, on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home chapel on Monday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Adam E. Grim officiating.
Pallbearers will be Donald Bower, Robert Bower, Donald McCleaf, Paul McCleaf, James Whitman, and Barney McCarty.
Interment will be in Zion Memorial Park, Bedford Road, Cumberland.

CHARLES S. SHAFFER
OAKLAND - Charles Smith Shaffer, 82, of Oakland, died on Wednesday at his home. Born June 11, 1914, in Terra Alta, W.Va., he was a son of the late David C. Shaffer and Ella (Smith) Shaffer.
Mr. Shaffer was a retired salesman for the Craig Motor Co. He was a member of the Oak Park Church of the Brethren, and a 50 year member of Terra Alta Lodge 106 AF&AM.; He was a member of the Scottish Rite Bodies; the Osiris Shrine Temple; Aerie Lodge 2353 Fraternal Order of Eagles; and Terra Alta Lodge 1395, Loyal Order of Moose.
Surviving are his wife, Betty (Wiles) Shaffer; one daughter, Charlene Bennett, Terra Alta, W.Va.; one sister, Vernice Kinney, Sarasota, Fla.; and one grandchild.
Friends may call at the Durst Funeral Home, Oakland, on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Masonic memorial service will be conducted at the funeral home Friday at 7:30 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Mel Menker officiating.
Interment will be in Garrett County Memorial Gardens.
Memorials may be directed to the charity of the donor's choice.
EDWARD W. SHAFFER
CUMBERLAND - Edward White Shaffer, 91, of Potomac Park, Cumberland, went to be with his Lord Thursday, May 29, 1997, at his residence.
Born March 27, 1906, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late John Ross and Lilly (Twigg) Shaffer. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Eloise W. Shaffer; and two brothers.
Mr. Shaffer was a retired maintenance engineer supervisor for the Celanese Corporation, Cumberland. He was a member of Potomac Park United Methodist Church and had been on the board of directors. He was a founder of Potomac Park Citizens Association. He was instrumental in obtaining, for the first time, community-sponsored ball fields and street lights for the Potomac Park area. He was an active member of the Cresaptown Senior Citizens Association and assisted in its organization and served as its treasurer. He was also a charter member of the Allegany Senior Citizens Association.
Surviving are one son, Michael E. Shaffer and wife Sharon, Ijamsville; one daughter, Linda S. Morton and husband Paul, Winchester Road, Cumberland; five grandchildren, Ian M. Shaffer and wife Lisa Beth, Rockville, Marc C. Shaffer and wife Kara, Columbia, Stephanie L. Morton, Potomac Park, David W. Shaffer, Ijamsville, and Brandon E. Morton, Winchester Road, Cumberland.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, Cresaptown, on Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the Potomac Park United Methodist Church Sunday at 2 p.m. with Pastor James L. McMahan officiating.
Interment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park, Cumberland.
SANDRA K. SHAFFER
OAKLAND - Sandra Kay "Pug" Shaffer, 45, of Oakland, died Sunday, Dec. 28, 1997, as the result of an automobile accident.
Born Jan. 30, 1952, in Oakland, she was the daughter of Roy F. and L. Lorraine (Wood) Elliott, of Oakland. She was preceded in death by her husband, Randall L. "Randy" Shaffer, in 1990.
Mrs. Shaffer was a member of the Crellin Assembly of God Church.
Surviving are one daughter, Alayna Brooks Shaffer, at home; one son, Phillip Angelo Pepe Jr., McHenry; three sisters, Charlotte Friend, Morgantown, W.Va., Sherry Paugh, Keyser, W.Va., and Darlene Hartman, Oakland; three brothers, Clifford Elliott, Roy Darwin Elliott and Daniel E. Elliott, all of Oakland; and two grandsons, Phillip Randall Pepe and Forrest Landion Pepe, Boise, Idaho.
Friends will be received at the Stewart Funeral Home, Oakland, on Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be held at the Crellin Assembly of God Church on Friday, Jan. 2, 1998, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. David Snodgrass officiating.
Friends may call at the church one hour prior to the services.
Interment will be in the Garrett County Memorial Gardens, Oakland.
EDWARD E. SHANK
MT. LAKE PARK - Edward E. Shank, 80, of 609 H St., Mt. Lake Park, died Monday, March 24, 1997, at his home.
Born April 19, 1916, in Vindex, he was a son of the late Roy W. Shank, and Barbara (Paugh) Shank.
Mr. Shank was retired from the motor wheel division of Ford Motor Co., Lansing, Mich., where he was employed as a line inspector for 45 years. He was a member of the Bethel United Methodist Church.
Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Betty (Jacobsen) Shank; two half sisters, Beverly Liller, Manassas, Va., and Sara Blair, Mineral Ridge, Ohio; six nieces, Barbara Storey, Linda Riley, Brenda Buser, Marsha Osekowski, Diane Blair, and Julie Blair; five nephews, Eddie Shank, Jim Shank, Jeffrey Liller, Matthew Blair, and Phillip Jacobsen.
Friends will be received at the Durst Funeral Home, Oakland, on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the Bethel United Methodist Church on Thursday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. James F. Remley officiating.
Interment will be in Garrett County Memorial Gardens. Friends may call at the church one half hour prior to services.
