DIANESE A. SHEPHERD
BURLINGTON, N.J. - Dianese A. Shepherd, 60, a 40 year resident of Burlington, died Saturday, July 12, 1997, at the Marcella Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Burlington.
Born on March 23, 1937, in Mount Savage, Md., she was the daughter of the late Francis and Elizabeth (Clites) Boor. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Willard I. Shepherd.

Mrs. Shepherd was a retired supervisor of the Inspection Department for O and S Research, Riverton, N.J.

Surviving are two sons, Clay Shepherd, Burlington, and Dewey Shepherd, Carrollton, Va.; three grandchildren, Jason and Mark Shepherd, Burlington, and Andrew McFadden, Collingswood. Mrs. Shepherd was an only child, but is survived by a host of dearly loved ones.

Friends will be received at the Hafer Chapel of the Hills Mortuary, 1302 National Highway, LaVale, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the funeral home chapel on Wednesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Harold R. McClay Jr. officiating.

Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.

SVEND D. SHEPPARD
WESTERNPORT - Svend David "Shep" Sheppard, 76, of 26009 Rock St., Westernport, formerly of Hagerstown, died Saturday, Nov. 15, 1997, at Potomac Valley Hospital, Keyser, W.Va.
Born April 17, 1921, in Faxe, Denmark, he was the son of the late Charles L. Sheppard and Louise Emilie Elisabeth (Olsen) Sheppard. He also was preceded in death by a son Svend D. Sheppard II; a sister, Betty Young; a brother, Carl R. Sheppard; and two grandsons.

Mr. Sheppard retired from the Western Maryland Railroad in 1979 as a yardmaster with 39 years of service. A World War II veteran, he served in the South Pacific and received the Bronze Star. He was a member of the Hagerstown No. 217 AF&AM; Lodge, the Tall Cedars of Lebanon, the Cumberland Consistery Scottish Rite 320, York Rite Bodies, Ali Ghan Shrine Hagerstown Shrine Club, Sayara Unit, the Hill Billy Clan No. 42, a member of the Loyal Order of Moose, life member of VFW Post No. 1936, the American Legion Post No. 222, Clear Spring, and AMVETS No. 17, Thurmont, the Eagles Inc. of Waynesboro, Pa., the Izaak Walton Club, the Williamsport Redmen, the Western Maryland Old Timers Club, the Railroad Retirees Association of Cumberland, Greencastle Sportsman Club, a life member of South Mountain Sportmans Club, the At Last Hunt Club, the Alsatia Club Inc., AARP, the UTU 50 year membership plus, and a former member of the Civil Air Patrol.

He is survived by a very dear friend, Dora (Kyle) Wilson; two daughters, Diana C. Fritz, Anaheim, Calif., and Peggy M. Schildt, Walkersville; two sons, Bradford L. Sheppard, Martinsburg, W.Va., and Jan S. Sheppard of Williamsport; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ida Inger Tewalt, Falling Water, W.Va., and Karn Angle, Hagerstown; and also Dora's family whom he also considered his own, Fred Wilson, Martha Alt, Barbara Moore, and John Wilson Jr., and their families; several nieces and nephews; and many friends.

Friends will be received at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport, on Monday from 6 to 9 p.m.

Funeral services will be conducted at the Mount Calvary Lutheran Church, Westernport, on Tuesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Matthew Riegel officiating.

At Mr. Sheppard's request, he will then be cremated.

Hagerstown Lodge No. 217 AF&AM; will hold a memorial service at the funeral home on Monday at 7:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Tri-Towns Rescue Squad, Westernport, or to the Hagerstown Lodge No. 217 Building Fund, c/o Joseph Stouffer, P.O. Box 166, Hagerstown, MD 21741-0166.

PHILIP A. SHEWBRIDGE
NIKEP - Philip A. Shewbridge, 76, of Better End Road, Nikep, died Dec. 7, 1997, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland.
Born at Cumberland on Nov. 19, 1921, he was a son of the late Harrison "Harry" Morton Shewbridge and Ellen (Deitz) Shewbridge.

Surviving are his wife, Carrie Elizabeth (Beeman) Shewbridge; one daughter, Victoria Gayle Glass, Frostburg; and one son, Harry "Andy" Andrew Shewbridge, Barton; four grandchildren, Jesse Glass, Jaimee Glass, Katrina Shewbridge, and Garrett Shewbridge; three brothers, Robert J. Shewbridge, Carl V. Shewbridge, and Ersal J. Shewbridge, all of Cumberland.

He was retired from the Cumberland Brewery. He was a U.S. Army Air Force veteran of World War II, and a lifetime member of Washington Chapter #2 D.A.V.

Friends will be received at the Eichhorn-McKenzie Funeral Home, Lonaconing, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

The funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Richard Mortimore officiating.

Interment will be in Rocky Gap Veterans cemetery near Cumberland.

Honorary pallbearers will be Robert "Bob" Mace, Buck Gephart, Charles Drew, Jim Wagoner, Joe Becker, and Robert Rank.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Carrie E. Shewbridge, 17632 Better End Road, Box D-4, Nikep, MD 21539.

Washington Chapter #2 D.A.V. will hold a memorial service at the funeral home, Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.

CHESTER W. SHIMER
WESTERNPORT - Chester W. Shimer, 87, of Heartland of Keyser Nursing Home, Keyser, W.Va., formerly of 120 Green St., Westernport, died Tuesday, Sept. 2, 1997, at Potomac Valley Hospital, Keyser.
Born Feb. 9, 1910, in LaVale, he was a son of the late Henry C. and Nellie (Brant) Shimer. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Mae A. (Marsh) Shimer in 1996, an infant daughter, Margaret J. Shimer; a sister, Estella Shimer; and a brother, Cleve Shimer.

Mr. Shimer retired in 1975 from Westvaco Corporation with 48 years of service.

He served the citizens of the state, the county, and his community for over 65 years as a member of the Luke and Potomac Volunteer Fire Departments, and the Tri-Towns Ambulance and Rescue Service. He held lifetime memberships in all of these organizations.

As a member of the Luke Volunteer Fire Department, he held the office of secretary/treasurer for many years. As a member of the Potomac Fire Company he held offices of president, secretary, treasurer, and was a member of the board of directors.

Being active for over 50 years in the Allegany and Garrett Counties Volunteer Firemens Association, he held the office of secretary of that association for nearly 15 years. He held membership in the Cumberland Valley Volunteer Firemens Association and attended over 40 annual conventions of the Maryland State Firemens Association.

He was a 50 year member of Philos Lodge No. 91 IOOF, Westernport. He was a member of the Westernport Church of the Brethren for over 50 years, having served in various areas of responsibility, including deacon, usher, committee member, district and annual conference delegate and mens fellowship. He also held the office of treasurer for over 30 years and was chairman of the building committee during the time of the church's relocation from Main Street to Oakview Drive. He was a member of the volunteer Bible class and was treasurer of that group since 1947. The West Marva District also benefited from his many years of service.

Surviving are two sons, William Shimer and wife Martha, Westernport, and Robert H. Shimer and wife JoAnn, Westernport; one daughter, Betty Bryan and husband Bob, Westernport; one brother, James Shimer, Millington, Tenn.; one sister, Mary Braithwaite, Westernport; six grandchildren, Bill Shimer, Pam Fike, Robin Bryan, Eric Bryan, Chris Shimer, and Diane May; and seven great-grandchildren, Matt Shimer, Derrick Shimer, Cory Shimer, Robbie May, Crissy May, Brian Fike, and Jason Fike.

Friends will be received at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport, on Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be held at the Westernport Church of the Brethren on Friday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Ervin Huston officiating. The body will be taken to the church one hour prior to the service.

Interment will be in Philos cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Potomac Fire Company, Tri-Towns Rescue Squad or Westernport Church of the Brethren.

EVELYN C. SHIPLEY
CRESAPTOWN - Evelyn C. Shipley, 79, formerly of Cresaptown, then of Fort Ashby, W.Va., died Monday, Oct. 12, 1997, in Hampshire Health Care Center, Romney, W.Va.
She was born Dec. 11, 1917, in Thomas, W.Va., the daughter of the late John and Mary (Breedlove) Clem.

Mrs. Shipley was Protestant by faith and had worked in the spinning department at the Celanese.

Survivors include three sons, Gerald William McIntosh, Fort Ashby, Fred McIntosh, Naples, Fla., and Mike Shipley, Zihlman; two daughters, Joan Grapes, Martinsburg, W.Va., and Lois Ann Smith, Lanagan, Mo.; brothers, Everett Clem, Cumberland, and John Clem, Colinsville, Ala.; 17 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the Hafer Chapel of the Hills Mortuary, 1302 National Hwy., LaVale, on Tuesday, Oct. 14, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be held on Wednesday at 1 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. James Blubaugh officiating.

Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Park, Cumberland.

RALPH G. SHIPLEY
CUMBERLAND - Ralph G. Shipley, 83, of Cumberland, died Thursday, Feb. 13, 1997, at the residence of his sister, Ella Reynolds, Cumberland.
Born March 17, 1913, in Rainesburg, Pa., he was the son of the late Guy E. and Jenny (Stuckey) Shipley. He also was preceded in death by a brother, Paul W. Shipley.

Mr. Shipley was a graduate of Bedford High School and attended Gettysburg College. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during peace time for four years as a corporal. He was retired from the B&O; Railroad and was a 50-year member of the United Transportation Union. He was Methodist by faith. He was a member of the East Gate Lodge 216 A.F. & A.M.; Past High Priest of Salem Chapter 18 R.A.M.; member of Salem Council 11; and Past Commander of Antioch Commandry 6, Knights of Templar.

Surviving are one brother, John Stewart Shipley, Bedford, Pa.; two sisters, Freda Shipley Helinski, Baltimore, and Ella Shipley Reynolds, Cumberland; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at the Hafer Chapel of the Hills Mortuary, 1302 National Highway, LaVale, on Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted in the funeral home chapel on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. followed by additional services in the Woods Methodist Church, Rainesburg, with the Rev. Richard Leslie officiating.

Interment will follow in the Woods Methodist Church cemetery.

Masonic Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. by the East Gate Lodge 216 A.F. & A.M.

Pallbearers will be Luther Reynolds, Edward Groves, John Groves, Amos Shipley, Albert Helinski and Michael Evans.
