GRACE L. THELEN
Grace Lyons Thelen, mother of Dr. Judith N. Thelen of Cumberland, died Thursday, July 3, 1997.
Grace was born in Wioda, Iowa and lived in Syracuse, N.Y., most of her life.

She was an outstanding mother and friend. Her daughter, Joy, predeceased her. She is also survived by a close friend and companion, I.A. "Whitey" Hotze, a niece, Suzanne Hudson of Boston; two nephews, Philip Hudson of Salt Lake City and Charles Hudson of Cortland, N.Y., and many wonderful friends in New York and Maryland.

She was an administrative aide for 14 years for I.A. Hotze, Inc. and a part-time secretary in the chemistry department at LeMoyne College. Grace was also an active volunteer in Girl Scouts, the Syracuse Lionesses and the Salem Hyde Community Association.

Grace always had a smile on her face, a twinkle in her Irish eyes, a kind word and was forever grateful for the tiniest favor done for her. She enjoyed making lists and she's still looking for them.

An avid reader, Grace instilled the love of books in her children by reading to them every night. For this reason, the family asks that in lieu of flowers, friends remember Grace by donating a children's book to the county library of choice in her name.

At her request she will be cremated. A service will be held in her memory in the near future. Champagne and memories will be served!
