JAMES C. WILT
CUMBERLAND - James Clinton Wilt, 82, of 603 Henderson Ave., died Wednesday, June 11, 1997, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born Sept. 14, 1914, in Bemius, W.Va., he was the son of the late Cleve Wilt and the late Glyde B. (Chapman) Wilt Horchler. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Mr. Wilt was retired from the Magma Copper Corp. in 1976, and resided in San Manuel, Ariz., until his return to Cumberland in September, 1976. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, where he received the Bronze Star and the Soldier Medal for Bravery. He was a member of the San Manuel Elks Lodge 2007, where he served as Exalted Ruler and District Deputy Arizona South; VFW Post 1411 and American Legion Post 13, Cumberland; Aerie 245 Eagles; life member of Cumberland Outdoor Club; Maryland State Police Alumni Association, Inc.; 40 & 8 Club 164; board of directors Frostburg University Bobcat Club; and a member of Allegany High School, class of 1933.
Surviving are one daughter, Joan "Sis" Geatz and husband Phil, Cumberland; two sons, James L. Wilt and wife Doris Jean, and Carroll C.W. Wilt and wife Pat, all of Cumberland; eight grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday at 11 a.m. with Father Vance Pastorious, OFM, Cap., officiating.
Interment will be in Hillcrest Burial Park.
Pallbearers will be J.P. Geatz, Eric Geatz, Greg Wilt, George Schupfer, Tom O'Rourke, and George Reynolds. Honorary pallbearers will be Andy Anderson, Grayson "Swede" Dunlap, Bob Mattingly, and Bob Delaney.
Memorial contributions may be made to SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church.
Full military rites will be accorded at the graveside by local veterans organizations.
A Christian wake service will be held at the funeral home on Thursday at 8:45 p.m.
NELLIE A. WILT
LAVALE - Nellie Artenis Wilt, 66, of 541-B National Highway, LaVale, died Sunday, March 30, 1997, at her home.
Born May 7, 1930, in Westernport, she was the daughter of the late Frank L. Wilt and the late Leona (Wetzell) Wilt. She also was preceded in death by her sister, Lona Wilt. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Miss Wilt was retired from Friends Aware.
Surviving are her special friends, Roxanna Lewis and Susan Carr, Cumberland.
Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Tuesday from 1 to 2 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Tuesday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Bernadette Ross officiating.
Interment will be in Zion Memorial Park.
THELMA M. WILT
LONACONING - Thelma Marie Wilt, 81, of 21315 Charlestown Road, Lonaconing, died Tuesday, Aug. 12, 1997, at her daughter's residence in Lonaconing.
Born Aug. 15, 1915, in Lonaconing, she was the daughter of the late William H. and Malvina Catherine (Salisbury) Beeman. She also was preceded in death by her husband Thomas O. Wilt, in Sept. 1972; and one son, Thomas Harry Harrison Wilt, on April 12, 1997.
Mrs. Wilt was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She formerly worked for the Celanese Fiber Corp. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Lonaconing, the Women's Society of the church, the Morning Star Temple No. 1 Pythian Sisters, Lonaconing, and the Senior Citizens, Lonaconing.
Surviving are one daughter, Dorothy Hershberger, Lonaconing; one son, Roger O. Wilt, Barton; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two nieces; and one nephew.
The body is at the Eichhorn-McKenzie Funeral Home, Lonaconing.
Friends will be received at the funeral home on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Thursday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Richard Mortimore officiating.
Interment will be in the Mount View cemetery, Moscow Mills, Md.
THOMAS H. WILT
LONACONING - Thomas Harrison "Harry" Wilt, 62, of Charlestown Street, Lonaconing, died Saturday, April 12, 1997, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born Jan. 29, 1935, at Lonaconing, he was a son of Thelma M. (Beeman) Wilt, of Lonaconing, and the late Thomas O. Wilt.
Mr. Wilt was retired from the Westvaco Corp. Piedmont Warehouse after 39 years of service. He was a member of the First Assembly of God Church, Lonaconing, and member of Georges Creek Cruisers and Jackson Run Hunting Club.
Surviving in addition to his mother are his wife, Phyllis Jean (Donald) Wilt; three sons, Keith A. Wilt and wife Sandra K., Lonaconing, Thomas Lee Wilt and wife Denise Scott, Lonaconing, and Mark W. Wilt and wife Cathy Irene, Frostburg; seven grandchildren, Tiffani L. Wilt and Travis L. Wilt, Midlothian, Noelle G. Wilt, Lonaconing, Jenna Lynn Wilt, Frostburg, Cara Jean Wilt, Frostburg, Thomas Scott Wilt and Aaron Christopher Wilt, Lonaconing; one sister, Dorothy Hershberger, Lonaconing; one brother, Roger O. Wilt, Barton; one niece, Rhonda De Joice; and one nephew, Timothy Wilt.
Friends will be received at the Eichhorn-McKenzie Funeral Home, Lonaconing, on Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Tuesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Donald Webb and the Rev. George Loar officiating.
Interment will be in the Green cemetery, Garrett County.
CLARENCE E. WINEBRENNER
CRESAPTOWN - Clarence E. Winebrenner, 76, of Glen Oaks, Cresaptown, died Thursday, Oct. 16, 1997, at Memorial Hospital.
Born Nov. 26, 1920, in Shaft, he was the son of the late Edward and Mary (Plummer) Winebrenner. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Mr. Winebrenner was retired from the Kelly Springfield Tire Company, Cumberland. He was a Navy World War II veteran. He was a member of Cresaptown United Methodist Church and an usher for the church; a member of Fort Cumberland Post 13 American Legion; Local 26; a member of Western Maryland Labor Council Senior Citizens; Cresaptown and Ridgeley Senior Citizens; and the Social Retirement Club of Allegany County.
Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Sarah E. (Stevenson) Winebrenner; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at Scarpelli Funeral Home, Cresaptown, Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home Saturday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Harold R. McClay, Jr. officiating.
Interment will be in Frostburg Memorial Park. Graveside military honors will be accorded by the Combined Veterans Honor Guard.
The family requests contributions be made to the Cresaptown United Methodist Church Building Fund.
FRANCIS C. WINEBRENNER
FROSTBURG - Francis C. Winebrenner, 87, of 19022 National Pike, Frostburg, died Wednesday, Oct. 22, 1997, at Frostburg Village Nursing Home.
Born April 7, 1910, in Garrett County, he was the son of the late James and Laura (Layton) Winebrenner. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Bessie (Baker) Winebrenner; and nine brothers and sisters.
Mr. Winebrenner was a member of Emmanual United Methodist Church, National Pike. He was retired from Kaiser Refractories.
Surviving are one brother, Grant Winebrenner, Grantsville; one sister, Nellie Winebrenner, National Pike; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Durst Funeral Home, Frostburg, on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at Emmanuel United Methodist Church on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. with the Rev. Jay West officiating.
Interment will be in Emmanuel United Methodist Church cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Donald Cutter, Larry Layton, Jim Langan and Dick Wiggins.
