Ilin, Anna Helen

Anna Helen Ilin, 77 of Eden, died Tuesday, February 19, 2002 at Salisbury Center Genesis Elder Care in Salisbury. She was born in the Ukraine.

She attended First Baptist Church of Fruitland.

She is survived by; two sons: Valentin Ilin and wife Gertrude of Marion and Walter Ilin of Eden; and three grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mychialo Ilin and a son, Andy Ilin.

A funeral service will be held Friday, February 22, 2002 at 11 A.M. at Holloway Funeral Home in Salisbury. Visitation will be Thursday evening from 7 to 9 PM and one hour prior to the service. The Rev. Walter 'Dow' Wood will officiate. Interment will be in First Baptist Cemetery in Pocomoke City, MD.

DeBow, Patricia Ann

Patricia Ann DeBow was born in Coffeeville, Kansas to the late Lucille Webb Campbell and Fred Webb, Sr. and was reared by her step father, Governor Campbell. She attended the public schools of Kansas City, Kansas.

Sis. DeBow served a tour in the U. S. Army following high school. During her tour of duty, she met and married John DeBow, and they became the proud parents of four children. Military service brought them to the Aberdeen, Maryland area.

She gave her life to Christ and became a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Havre de Grace, Md. under the pastorate of the late Rev. Dr. Herman M. Williamson. Sis. DeBow was a member of the Celestial Gospel Singers and loved singing and traveling with the ministry.

A lover of cooking, Sis. DeBow worked as a Culinary Arts Instructor at Bainbridge Naval Station and as an Assistant Chef at the Maryland Golf and Country Club. She also served as Past Worthy Matron of Eastern Star #20 and as Past President of the Women's Auxiliary of Charlton Miller VFW Post #6054.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers & sisters, loving husband, John DeBow, and a great granddaughter, Janyia DeBow Davis. After a lengthy illness, she succumbed to her illness on October 14, 2011. She leaves to cherish precious memories her four daughters, Gabriela L. Medley, (her friend, Kenneth Johnson), Julio Y. (Eric C. Sr. ) Russell and Johnett W. DeBow, all of Aberdeen, Md., and Ceil E. DeBow, Fayetteville, N. C.; grandchildren John A. DeBow, Johnny L. Townsend II, Patricia A. DeBow, Jr., Douglas E. Harris, Jr., Natalie DeBow, Bernard Jacobe, Xaviar DeBow Casey, Eric C. Russell, Jr.; great grandchildren Natayia DeBow Davis and Jion DeBow Davis, special great niece, LaTrese Y. Burnett, Kansas City, Kansas, and a host of other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held Thursday October 20, 2011 10a.m.-12p.m. at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 520 Lewis Street, Havre de Grace, MD where funeral will start at 12p.m. Burial will be November 18, 2011 in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA.

Garnett, Marion "Betty"

Insley, Dr. Philip A.

Dr. Philip A. Insley, Sr., 93 of Salisbury, died Tuesday, February 12, 2002 in Peninsula Regional Medical Center. Born in Cambridge, he was the son of the late Judge T. Sangston and Emily Burdick Winterbottom Insley. His wife, Elinor Nichols Insley preceded him in death.

He is survived by his son, Dr. Philip A. Insley, Jr. and his wife Jacqueline C. Insley of Salisbury and his daughter Emily Loudell Insley of Salisbury; four grandchildren, Virginia Brennan of Salisbury, Robin Insley of New York City, Kristin Brady of Annapolis and Philip A. Insley, III of Baltimore; five great-grandchildren and one niece. In addition to his wife, a sister, Frances Insley Carroll preceded him in death.

Dr. Insley graduated from University of Maryland, College Park in 1930 and University of Maryland Medical School in 1934. While in school he was elected to the honorary fraternity ODK and was a member of Sigma Chi.. Following medical school graduation Dr. Insley continued training in surgery under the preceptor ship of Dr. Robert Bay at Maryland General Hospital in Baltimore. He opened his practice in Salisbury in 1936. Declared an essential doctor in the Salisbury area during WWII, Dr. Insley was deferred from active duty. During the last year of WWII, in addition to his general surgery practice and duties as a general practitioner, Dr. Insley delivered more than 250 babies. Later in his career he limited his practice to General Surgery and General Practice until his retirement in 1978. He served as President of Wicomico County Medical Society, (1945) and was Chief of Staff of Peninsula General Hospital, (1955-1956). During his tenure as chief of staff, he was very active in the planning and building of Peninsula Regional Medical Centers new building.

Dr. Insley was a charter member of the Salisbury Biracial Commission, which was involved in the peacefull integration of Wicomico County. He was also a member of The Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce, and a member and past president of the Salisbury Rotary Club, (1955-1956). In 1997 he was recognized for 57 years of service to the Rotary Club of Salisbury and Rotary International. His professional affiliations include: American College of Surgeons, Southern Medical Association, American Board of Abdominal Surgeons and the Wicomico County Medical Society. He was a member of Green Hill Yacht and Country Club where he was former club champion and senior club champion. He also won the Presidents Cup three times. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church for over 50 years, where he served as past president of the Board of Trustees.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 16, 2002 at 1:00 PM in Trinity United Methodist Church in Salisbury. Rev. George R. Patterson will officiate. Interment will be in Parsons Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church Building Fund, 112 High Street, Salisbury, MD 21802.

MARION E. GARNETT (Betty), 81 years old was born on October 5, 1930 to the late Benjamin and Dorothy Ridgeway in Cheswold, Delaware. Marion went to be with the Lord on Friday, October 14, 2011 after a long illness.

In February 1946, she was united in holy matrimony to William Garnett (Creep) and from this union Marion, Willis and Phillistine were born.

She received her early education at Elkton, Maryland and completed in Millington Maryland. She was employed at Union Hospital, Laurelwood Nursing Home and retired from L & H Cleaners were she worked for 12 years.

She loved to be with her family on holidays. She enjoyed playing card games, bingo, listening to music and dancing.

She leaves to cherish her memories; husband of 65 years, William Garnett (Creep); children, Marion Baynard (Albert) Townsend DE, Willis Garnett (Valerie) Elkton MD and Phillistine Malveaux, Newark DE; Grandchildren, Maurice (Niecy), Shawn, Willis Jr. (Sabrina), Keshia, Aaron, Eric (Helen), Chris (Nancy) and Yolanda; 20 Great Grandchildren; 2 sisters, Mary and Leona; 3 brothers, Charles, Raymond and Dewey; 7 sister-in-laws Teresa, Connie, Edith, Alise, Thelma, Helen and Robin; 4 brother-in-laws Reuben, Preston, Eugene and Benny. A devoted son Robert Henson (Bobby) and devoted friends Earlene Potter and Rev. Violet Tann; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her sister Annette and 2 brothers, Floyd and Benjamin and a son-in-law Edrice.

Services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, October 22, 2011 at Christ Unity Center, Inc., 1150 Singerly Road, Elkton, MD where friends may call starting at 9:00 a.m. Burial will be in Bohemia Manor Cemetery, Chesapeake City, MD.

Pinion, Raymond O.

RAYMOND ONEIL PINION was born on September 23, 1927 to the late Dorothy Pinion. He departed this life on Wednesday, October 12, 2011 at Harford Memorial Hospital in Havre de Grace, Maryland.

Raymond received his education at the Havre de Grace Colored School. He was employed by the City of Havre de Grace and retired after 30 plus years of service.

He was united in holy matrimony to Evelyn Johnson and from this union he raised one son, Avon Johnson.

Raymond enjoyed watching the series "The Heat of the Night" along with baseball, basketball, football basically any sport on television. He was an avid sports fan. He lived with his sister Doris, his caretaker whom he loved very much. They shared special times and moments that will be remembered for ever.

Though Raymond was quiet and unassuming in his later years, he enjoyed spending time with special friends in his youth.

He leaves to cherish his memory; 2 sisters, Doris Durbin, Aberdeen, Maryland and Carol Scott, Havre de Grace, Maryland; a special friend, Dickie Brooks; nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his wife and son, his mother and sister Alice Dyson.

Visitation will be held Wednesday October 19, 2011, 11a.m.-12p.m. at Lisa Scott Funeral Home, 552 Lewis Street, Havre de Grace, MD, with funeral services following immediately thereafter. Burial will be at Berkley Cemetery, Darlington, MD.

Gray, Cordelia Giles

Cordelia Giles Gray, age 78 of Aberdeen, MD departed this life Saturday October 8, 2011 at her residence.

She was the loving wife of Brewster Gray; mother of, Diane (Eugene) Kelly, Marion (William) Hall, Elaine Satchell, Noreen Giles, deceased, Lenora Giles, Leroy Giles and Terry (Susan) Giles; grandmother to19 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday October 15, 2011 at Aberdeen Fire Hall, 21 N. Roger Street, Aberdeen, MD.

Fehrs, Erich

Erich Fehrs, 71, of Cambridge passed away suddenly at Dorchester General Hospital on Sunday, October 9, 2011. He was born in Brooklyn, NY on May 10, 1940 and was a son of the late Karl and Kathe Dambolt Fehrs.

He graduated from Sewanaka High School in New York. He served in the U.S. Navy. He was currently working at the Hyatt Regency in Cambridge. He enjoyed sailing and raising standard poodles. He was a member of Retail Clerks Local 1500 in New York.

He is survived by his wife Margaret Fehrs of Cambridge, three sons Edward Fehrs, Charles Haughwout and wife Evelyn and their children Alexandra and Madeline and a son William Haughwout all of Huntington, NY and a sister Ingrid Fehrs of Valley Stream, NY.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, October 12, 2011 at 5:00 p.m. at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge with Rev. J. Edward King officiating. Family will receive friends from 4:30 to 5:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Dorchester County Humane Society, P.O. Box 132, Cambridge, MD 21613.
