Hurley, Clara C.

Clara C. Hurley, 85 of Cambridge passed away on Tuesday, November 29, 2011 at Mallard Bay Care Center. She was born in Bishops Head on August 2, 1926 and was a daughter of the late Merritt S. and Nancy Lewis Moore.

Mrs. Hurley attended schools in Bishops Head and Crapo. On July 3, 1964 she married John R. Hurley. He passed away on August 26, 2011. In 1959, she graduated from the Eastern Shore State Hospital and received her LPN. She had worked for Dr. McCarter and retired in 2002. She was a member of the Cambridge Yacht Club.

Mrs. Hurley is survived by several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband John R. Hurley, three brothers and three sisters James Moore, Elijah Moore, Ella Bramble, Hazel Morris, A. Smith Moore and Lelia Jones.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, December 2, 2011 at 11 a.m. at Dorchester Memorial Park with Rev. Randall T. Blackmon officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Dorchester County Humane Society, P.O. Box 132, Cambridge, MD 21613. Arrangements are in the care of the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge.

Waldon, Sr., George Arnold

George Arnold Waldon, Sr. was born November 16, 1947 in Havre de Grace, Maryland to the late George Andrew and Estella Virginia Waldon. He peacefully departed this life on Monday, November 21, 2011 at Harford Memorial Hospital in Havre de Grace, Maryland.

George affectionately know by many as Arnold, Deacon Waldon or Bro. Heavy received his education in the Harford County Public School System and graduated from Havre de Grace Consolidated High School in 1965 and later attended Harford Community College in Bel Air, Maryland.

On February 14, 1967 Arnold enlisted in the United States Air Force and became an Aero Ground Equipment Specialist. On May 18, 1987 he was united in Holy Matrimony to Helen Joyce Harris, and from this union 4 children were born.

In March of 1974 Arnold was honorably discharged from the United States Air Force and began his career as an Equipment Specialist and Tool and Parts Supplier at Aberdeen Proving Ground retiring after 32 years of service.

Arnold was baptized in Jesus name and received the Holy Ghost in November 1979 at the Gospel Tabernacle First Apostolic Faith Church in Havre de Grace, Maryland under the leadership of Bishop Harry T. Lee, Sr., where he was ordained as Deacon. He played Bass Guitar, sang on the Senior Choir. He was an avid Sunday School member. He later joined Helping Hands Ministries in Churchville, Maryland under the leadership of Bishop Roger L. Tatuem where he served as a Deacon and Sound Technician.

Arnold developed a genuine love of music at an early age which afforded him the opportunity to serve as a DJ on many occasions. After classes in Broadcasting and Communications, Arnold started a program at Harford Community College called "Cosmic Voyager" that was enjoyed by many. He also worked as a DJ on WJSS 1330 AM Station where he started "Breakthrough", a musical gospel program enjoyed by many faithful listeners where his theme song was "He's Able", a song he played daily even in his hospital room until his demise.

Arnold also had a genuine love for people, especially his family of which he considered himself the "God Father" of. He could often be seen in the community, the grocery store, a funeral, somebody else's church or just sitting in his vehicle always ready to give words of encouragement and lift up the name of Jesus even when his words were just above a whisper.

Arnold leaves to cherish his memory; his loving and devoted wife of 44 years Helen Joyce Waldon, two sons, George Arnold Waldon, Jr. (Valorie), Cenntenial, Colorado, and Jamal D.T. Waldon, Havre de Grace, MD, four daughters, Paula Waldon and Angeline Hawthorne, Aberdeen, MD, Lisa Williams (Frank) Jay, Maine, and Tanya Caldwell (Howard), Havre de Grace, MD; 14 Grand Children; 11 Great Grand Children; two sisters, Monica Waldon and Pamela Johnson; two brothers, Wayne Waldon and Jonathan Waldon; eight sister-in-law's; three brother-in-law's; six aunts; four uncles; six god children; a host of nieces, nephews, dozens of cousins and many friends.

Close to his heart were Evangelist Norma Fickens, Bishop Harry Lee, Bishop Roger L. Tatuem, Pastor Mary Brooks, Deacon Duane Dixon, special cousins, Butch Dyson and Mary Frances Taylor. He also had a special love for the members of The Havre de Grace Senior Center, Golden Corral Saturday Morning family and the VFW Post 6054 in Perryman, MD.

Arnold was preceded in death by his parents, George Andrew and Virginia Waldon and two sisters, Lois Ann Brown and Cynthia Burrell.

Visitation will be held Wednesday November 30, 2011, 2-4p.m. and 6-8p.m. at Lisa Scott Funeral Home and Thursday December 1, 2011, 11a.m.-12p.m. at Helping Hands Ministries, 3237 Level Road, Churchville, MD where funeral will start at 12p.m. Burial will be in Harford Memorial Gardens, Aberdeen, MD.

Marshall, Virginia Lee

Virginia Lee Willey Marshall, 91, of Cambridge, passed away on Sunday, November 27, 2011. She had celebrated the Thanksgiving Holiday among family and friends at Chesapeake Woods Center where she was a patient, and passed peacefully in her sleep early Sunday morning. She was the daughter of the late Perry and Anna Evans Willey.

Mrs. Marshall graduated from Cambridge High School in 1936. On November 2, 1940 she married J. Meredith Marshall, her childhood sweetheart. He passed away on February 1, 1989. Before their children were born, she was a bookkeeper for Phillips Packing Company in the main office.

“Miss Ginny” as she was affectionately called, loved the Lord, and in her declining years on this earth, she longed for her heavenly home. All who were privileged to know “Miss Ginny” loved her and couldn’t help but be influenced by this woman of faith. Her Christian testimony will live on in the hearts of those who knew her.

“Miss Ginny” enjoyed family, music and her church. Her most fulfilling moments were spent as a devoted wife and loving mother. She will be remembered also for her sharp wit, humbleness, and sweet, sweet spirit.

She was a member of First Baptist Church, Cambridge, where she played the piano and organ for 70+ years. She also had served as missions leader, Sunday School teacher and music director. She was a gifted musician and shared her musical talents willingly, not for the plaudits of men, but only to bring glory to God, the Giver of the gift. At the time of her passing, she attended Faith Baptist Fellowship where she played special music.

She is survived by a son James M. Marshall, Jr. (Lt.Col.U.S. Marine Corps retired) of Fredericksburg VA, three daughters: Lynne Marshall, Elaine Robbins and husband Sonny of Cambridge, and Anne Councell and husband Petey of Cordova; six grandchildren: Brian Robbins, Jason Robbins, James M. Marshall III and wife Renee, Jeffrey Marshall and wife Amy, Lindsey Councell and Meredith Councell; and two great-grandchildren: Maddox Ewing and Gracie Marshall; a sister-in-law Betty Marshall of Cambridge, and nieces Jeannie Groves and Janice Elliott.

A celebration of “Miss Ginny’s” home-going will be held on Saturday, December 3, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge with Rev. Randall T. Blackmon officiating. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Faith Baptist Fellowship Capital Campaign, c/o Shirley Kailianu, 8 Somerset Avenue, Cambridge MD 21613, or to First Baptist Church, 501 Glenburn Avenue, Cambridge MD 21613.

Pallbearers will be her grandchildren and sons-in-law.

Habich Sr., Charles A.

Charles A. Habich Sr., 95, of Salisbury died Wednesday, October 20, 2004 at Salisbury Center Genesis Elder Care.

A graveside service will be held Tuesday, October 26, 2004 at 1 PM at Riverview Park in Charlottesville, VA.

Arrangements are in the care of Holloway Funeral Home, 501 Snow Hill Road, Salisbury, MD 21804.

Bacon, Robert Allen

Robert Allen Bacon, 42,of Salisbury, died Friday, September 14, 2001 at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury. Born in Salisbury, he was the son of Helen Lee Bacon of Salisbury and the late Robert Dow Bacon who died in 1983.

Mr. Bacon was previously active in the Wicomico Teen Adult Center. He was currently involved with the Lakeview Adult Daycare. He had attended Immanuel Baptist Church for 32 years.

In addition to his mother he is survived by three brothers: Richard Steven Bacon and his wife Sherry Bacon of Salisbury, Bruce Wayne Bacon of Houston, TX, and Charles Jeffrey Bacon and his wife Selena Bacon of Delmar, DE; one niece, Alison Faith Bacon and one nephew, Caleb Jeffrey Bacon. He was preceded in death by a brother Albert Gilbert Bacon who died in 1966.

A funeral service will be held Tuesday, September 18, 2001 at 12:00 PM at Immanuel Baptist Church. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. The Rev. Woodrow Crouse will officiate. Interment will be in Mardela Memorial Cemetery in Mardela Springs, MD.

Spruill, Jr., Andrew Jackson

ANDREW JACKSON SPRUILL, JR was born on April 7, 1946 to the late Ruth Jackson and Andrew Jackson Spruill Sr. He departed this life suddenly on November 10, 2011.

Andrew, better known as "Gump", received his primary and secondary education at Havre de Grace Consolidated School, graduating in 1965.

As a teenager he sang in a band all over Harford County with his good buddies Walter Stokes, Roger Tatuem, Floyd James and many others.

They loved to go down on Pennsylvania Avenue in Baltimore to get their "processes".

The Spidels thought they were the stuff because they were very popular with all the girls.

He was also very good in sports, especially basketball.

Upon graduation from high school he enlisted in the US Air Force where he remained for 21 years retiring in 1986.

Gump began his Christian walk at Zion Temple Church, under the leadership of his aunt, Pastor Clara V. Croxsell, where he was baptized in Jesus name at an early age.

Later in life he attended Helping Hands Ministries under the leadership of his good friend, Pastor Roger Tatuem.

After retirement from the Air Force he worked at the Bainbridge Job Corp Center for a short time. Being an AP (Air Policeman) in the Air Force, he decided to continue in that vein, applying for and being accepted as a Perry Point Policeman.

Gump worked in that capacity until his health failed in 1999.

Andrew and his first wife Monika Moesgen had one daughter, Michelle, who he dearly loved.

He was preceded in death by his second wife, and love of his life, Andrea Henson Spruill.

He leaves to cherish his memory: one daughter Michelle Frias-Perez (Jesus), Mulheim, Germany; two step-sons Keith Henson (Teresa) Havre de Grace, MD; Curtis Hall ( Sharon ) Alexandria, VA; three granddaughters, Maria Henson, Havre de Grace, MD; Lakeah Pena (Revel), Havre de Grace, MD; Letizia Frias-Perez, Mulheim, Germany; one greatgrandson, Richard Pena, Havre de Grace, MD; three sisters, Gwendolyn Durbin (Reginald), Edgewood, MD; Angela Jackson, Edgewood, MD; Sharon Hamilton, Abingdon, MD; four brothers, Tyrone Jackson (Jean) Tallahassee, FL; Aleko Jackson, Frederick, MD; Gary Jackson, Port Deposit, MD; Ralph Jackson, Edgewood, MD.

One uncle, Depriest Speller, Brockton, MA.

Three nieces, Melissa Best (Chad), Edgewood, MD, MD; Shannan Ezell-Hines (Roger), Aberdeen, MD Alicia Jackson, Port Deposit, MD.

Three nephews Marcus Hamilton, Baltimore, MD; Michael Ezell, Dallas, TX; Isaiah Jackson, Aberdeen, MD; two sisters in law Lida Henson and Barbara Walton both of Aberdeen, MD; very special cousins Marvin Croxsell, Jimmy Jackson, Gerald Scott and Tyrone Pleas and a host of other relatives In-laws and friends.

He was preceded in death by his neice Nicole Jackson.

A memorial service will be held 12:00 p.m. Thursday November 17, 2011 at Zion Temple Church, 501 Legion Drive, Havre de Grace, MD.

Interment will be in Arlington National Cemetery.
