Gould, Frieda D.

Frieda D. Gould, 97, formerly of Cambridge passed away on Tuesday, March 30, 2010 at Caroline Nursing Home. She was born in East New Market on September 6, 1912 and was a daughter of the late Frank and Barbara Fuchs Diskau.

She graduated from East New Market High School in 1930. On July 30, 1934 she was married to John B. Gould. Mr. Gould passed away in January of 1961. For a number of years Mrs. Gould had worked as a saleslady at F.W. Woolworth's in Wilmington, and also in Cambridge. She had also worked at Bambrick's Drug Store in Cambridge, and later she had worked at Richardson's Style Shop in Cambridge. Mrs. Gould was a member of Our Shepherd Lutheran Church in Cambridge, where she had sung in the Choir. She was also a member of the Ladies Guild of Our Shepherd Lutheran Church. Mrs. Gould had also been a member of the Dorchester General Hospital Auxiliary as well as the Eastern Shore Hospital Center Auxiliary. Mrs. Gould had been a resident at the Caroline Nursing Home in Denton for the past three years where she passed away on Tuesday morning.

She is survived by several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by eight sisters Alma D. Leonard, Alvina D. Jackson, Rose Kurth, Ida Krueger, Martha Marshall, Ann Wieland, Dora LeCompte and Emma D. Hoffman, and two brothers Carl H. Diskau, William Diskau.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday afternoon at 1:00 PM at Our Shepherd Lutheran Church on Race Street in Cambridge with Pastor Ray Rogers officiating. Burial will follow at East New Market Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Our Shepherd Luthern Church, 1312 Race Street, Cambridge, MD 21613. Arrangements are being handled by the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge.

Hubbard, Lillian L.

Lillian L. Hubbard, 70, of Secretary passed away on Wednesday, August 18, 2010 at Chesapeake Woods Center. She was born in Cambridge on August 17, 1940 and was a daughter of the late Charles A. and Dorothy Wheatley Lane.

Mrs. Hubbard attended schools in Cambridge. On February 1, 1957 she married John Hubbard, Sr. Mrs. Hubbard worked at Air Liquide and retired in 2005.

She is survived by her husband John Hubbard, Sr. of Secretary, a daughter Deborah Stephens and husband Virgil Stephens III of Laurel, DE, a son John Hubbard, Jr. and wife Donna Hubbard of Hurlock, grandchildren Jennifer Frey of Secretary, Jamie and Ashley Stephens of Laurel, DE, sisters Joan Webster of Cambridge, Anna Mae Welcher of Cambridge and Rose Mary Swann of Cordova, a brother William Lane, Sr. of Pittsburgh, a aunt Georgia Long of Cambridge and many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Mrs. Hubbard is preceded in death by a daughter Teresa I. Paul, a sister Laura Rippons and a brother Gilbert Lane.

Pallbearers will be Tommy Hall, Perry Hall, Billy Webster, Benjamin Welcher, Jr., John Lane and Robert Swann.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, August 20, 2010 at 11 a.m. at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge with Rev. Douglas M. Ridley officiating. Burial will follow at Dorchester Memorial Park. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions can be made in her name to the Coastal Hospice Foundation, P.O. Box 1733, Salisbury, MD 21802 or to the American Cancer Society, c/o Doris Weber, 5163 Maple Dam Road, Cambridge, MD 21613.

Kemp, Irving O.

Irving O. Kemp, 61, of Hurlock passed away on Tuesday, May 18, 2010 at his home. He was born in Chestertown on April 22, 1949 and was a son of the late Irving and Audrey Smith Kemp.

Mr. Kemp attended schools in Sudlersville. On April 29, 1967 he married the former Peggie Townsend. He had worked for the Hurley Twins and also with Thomas Ruark in Salisbury for 23 years as a painter. Mr. Kemp enjoyed fishing, gardening, country and blue grass music and watching t.v. He also loved his two dogs Sparky and Buttons.

He is survived by his wife Peggie Kemp of Hurlock, four children Melonie Villalta of Cambridge, Rodney Kemp of Hurlock, David Kemp of Cambridge and Brian Kemp of East New Market, nine grandchildren Myranda Villalta, Carmen Villalta, Ricky Villalta, Jennifer Bradley, Emma Kemp, Collin Kemp, Cody Kemp, Devin Kemp and Katy Dibble, and one great grandchild Landon Pham. Besides his parents, Mr. Kemp is preceded in death by a sister Dorothy Mae Hoggard.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, May 21, 2010 at 11 a.m. at East New Market Cemetery with Pastor George W. Wheatley, Jr. officiating. Arrangements are in the care of the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge. Memorial contribution can be made to the Coastal Hospice Foundation, P.O. Box 1733, Salisbury, MD 21802.

Yost, Betty G.

Betty Geraldine Yost, 85, formerly of Cambridge passed away on Sunday, August 1, 2010 at Baptist Medical Center-Nassau in Fernandina Beach, Florida.

Born on March 21, 1925, she was the seventh of eight brothers and sisters born to Elzer N. Coates and Lila H. Fortney Coates in Steelton, PA. Growing up in Highspire, PA and graduated high school there in 1943. On April 11, 1944 she was married to Burrwood Yost, Sr. She loved to dance to the big bands of that era. Betty was gregarious, fun loving, always quick to smile and had an infectious laugh. Mrs. Yost spent most of her adult life in Cambridge, where she worked as a bookkeeper along side her husband, Bud, a watchmaker at Tubman's Jewelers. After Mr. Yost passed away in 1978, she continued to work at Tubman's until retiring in 1987. In 1993, she moved to St. Petersburg, FL where she lived until May of 2009; when she moved to Fernandina Beach, FL. Mrs. Yost loved her family and enjoyed returning every summer to the Coates Family Reunion in Pennsylvania. There she always entertained her many nieces and nephews with her stories. She will be sorely missed by all those who loved her. She is now at peace with the Lord.

Mrs. Yost is preceded in death by: her parents, her husband, Burrwood Yost, Sr., two brothers, Elzer N. Coates, Bernard L. Coates and two sisters, Hyacinth Q. Harder and Gladys Stipes.

She leaves behind, three sons, MAJ USA (Ret.) Burrwood Yost, Jr. ( Linda K. ) of Fernandina Beach, FL, Brian L. Yost ( Lucille ) of Bellingham, WA, Terry W. Yost of Showell, MD, a brother William Coates (Marilyn ) of Madisonville, KY, two sisters Thelma Holmes of Harrisburg, PA, Bernadine McElheny of Highspire, PA, four grandchildren Phillip B. Yost of St. Petersburg, FL, Lara E. Burdack ( Paul ) of Tallahassee, FL, Brian Yost, Jr. ( Bambi ) of Church Creek, MD, Christian Yost of Showell, MD, a great grandson Koen R. Yost and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, August 12, 2010 at 2 p.m. at the Maryland Veterans Cemetery near Hurlock with Rev. Michael Reddig officiating, as she is laid to rest beside her husband. Local arrangements are in the care of the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge, MD.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 14, 2010 at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Knight's Funeral Home, Highspire, PA. Her family will receive friends on Saturday following the memorial service at the funeral home.

Windsor, Barbara E.

Barbara E. Windsor, 75, of Wingate passed away on Sunday, November 7, 2010 at Dorchester General Hospital. She was born in Bishops Head on May 14, 1935 and was a daughter of the late Richard and Ida May Reeves Wingate.

Mrs. Windsor attended school in Crapo. On December 9, 1950 she married Wm. Franklin Windsor. She worked for Dorchester Crab Company and also worked with her husband on the water. She enjoyed cooking and shopping. Mrs. Windsor was a member of several churches in the Wingate and Bishops Head area and was also a member of Lakes - Straits Volunteer Fire Company.

She is survived by her husband Wm. Franklin Windsor of Wingate, three children Frankie Windsor and wife Joyce of East New Market, Carson Windsor and wife Karen of East New Market and Cheryl Dawson of Wingate, two grandchildren Kyle F. Dawson and Jodi Grsriel, two great grandchildren Olivia Grsriel and Molly E. Grsriel and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Mrs. Windsor is preceded in death by a brother Percy Wingate and a sister Hilda Greene.

Pallbearers will be John Ashton, Rudy Robbins, Charles Hayward, Mike Rossy, William Edwards and Eddie Todd.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 10, 2010 at 1 p.m. at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge with Rev. Ray Rogers officiating. Interment will follow at Dorchester Memorial Park. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Mowbray, Norman R.

Air Force

Norman Roberson Mowbray, Jr., 70, of Bryantown, MD, died on October 12, 2010, at Civista Medical Center.

Born September 16, 1940, in Cambridge, Maryland, he was the son of the late Norman R. Mowbray, Sr. and Josephine Twilley Mowbray.

On February 9, 1964, he married Linda L. Smith, also of Cambridge. Mr. Mowbray graduated from Cambridge High School in 1958. He served in the United States Air Force from 1958 to 1961. In July 1962, he entered the Maryland State Police Academy and upon graduation, he was assigned to the Waldorf Barrack as a road patrol trooper. After a brief assignment to the Princess Anne Detachment he returned to Waldorf where he progressed through the ranks including assignments at the Marlboro Post and Forestville Barrack. He was then assigned to the Aviation Division as a helicopter pilot and later to the command staff of Aviation at MSP Headquarters. Upon return to Field Operations, he was Commander of the Prince Frederick Barrack, and at the time of his retirement in 1985, he was Commander of the Waldorf Barrack.

He obtained a fixed wing pilot license with an instrument rating and a helicopter pilot license. He attended the University of Maryland, College Park. After retirement from the MSP, he owned and operated a flight school at Hyde Field in Clinton, MD, and a helicopter aerial advertising business. He later was employed as an aviation consultant with Bell Helicopter.

Mr. Mowbray was a member of the Maryland Troopers Association, the Maryland State Police Alumni Association, the American Legion, the Moose and the Cushman Club of America. He enjoyed flying his airplane and helicopter, and fishing, boating, gardening and reading. He and his wife traveled frequently, taking several trips each year.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Linda S. Mowbray. In addition to his parents and sister, Gloria M. Ketelsleger, who preceded him in death, he is survived by sisters Sarah M. Willey and her husband, David; Charlotte M. Lewis and her husband, John; brother-in-law, Christopher Betts; brothers & sisters in law Norman and Jeannie Smith; Ann and Charles Lewis, and many nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, October 21, from 4:00 to 7:00 pm, with prayers at 6:00 pm, at Brinsfield-Echols Funeral Home, 30195 Three Notch Road, Charlotte Hall, MD. A visitation will be held on Saturday, October 23, 2010 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A., 700 Locust Street, Cambridge, MD 21613. The interment will be private.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, PO Box 995, Waldorf, MD and/or, or the Maryland State Police Alumni Association, 18710 Falls Rd, Hampstead, MD 21074.

Cox, Kae E.

Kae Bell Cox, 79, of Cambridge passed away suddenly on Wednesday, April 28, 2010 at Peninsula Regional Medical Center. She was born in Cambridge on September 5, 1930 and was a daughter of the late Laurence and Mildred Bradley Ewell.

She graduated from Cambridge High School. Mrs. Cox married Robert Cox and he passed away in March of 2008. She worked at the Hair Port as a receptionist and later at Signet Bank where she retired. After retirement she worked part time at the Linkwood Golf Course.

She is survived by a daughter Susan B. Lewis of Cambridge, a granddaughter Lisa Webster and husband Kevin of Linkwood and a great granddaughter Lexi Webster.

Pallbearers will be JT North, Donnie Harmon, Dennis Wroten, Dennis Grafton, Kevin Webster and Jake Deisem.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, May 3, 2010 at 1 p.m. at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge with Rev. Jay Hurley officiating. Burial will follow at East New Market Cemetery. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Dorchester County Humane Society, P.O. Box 132, Cambridge, MD 21613.
