Edwards, Doris Jean

DORIS JEAN "JEANNIE" EDWARDS of Edgewood, Maryland, was born April 24, 1953 to the late George Charles Wilson and the late Mary Priscilla Osborne. Her birth date was special not only because it was the date the Lord blessed us with Jeannie but it was the same date shared by her Daddy's day of birth. Jeannie also shared the love of her favorite color of green with her Daddy.

Those who knew her quickly felt the warmth and generosity of her big heart. This was a characteristic she learned from her Momma. You never did without if Jeannie knew that you didn't have something that you needed or as her children and grandchildren can attest something that you wanted. Oftentimes we saw and many times unbeknownst to us her do without, not even giving it a second thought to make sure her family had whatever they desired.

Jeannie attended Mount Calvary Church at an early age and in her latter years she attended Tabernacle Mount Zion Church. Jeannie graduated from Aberdeen Senior High School, and later attended Harford Community College for two years. She was employed by the Federal Government for over 25 years. Her tenure as a Federal employee was with the Internal Revenue Services and later the Department of Defense Contracting Agency, in Baltimore, Maryland.

Jeannie enjoyed family time at cookouts, dinners, and going to theatrical plays and musical concerts. She also found pleasure in any event were her grandchildren had involvement basketball, football, ballet, tap, jazz dance, gymnastics, track and field, etc., . She loved reading books and found pleasure and would light up with excitement when discussing what she had read with others. Oftentimes she would trade books with other readers and her patience would sometimes grow thin with anticipation awaiting a slower reader to complete a book. She recently found enjoyment in traveling, especially to North Carolina. She was also an avid bowler and was a team member of several leagues along with her husband and siblings. She was a dedicated Pittsburgh STEELER fan as well as a Chicago Bulls fan. Jeannie also loved collecting watches and always would find something very unique or authentic. Her family recognized the love she had for watches and would oftentimes give her watches just because they saw the joy these small tokens brought her by the smile on her face and the appreciation in her heart.

After the passing of her parents Jeannie as a young adult took on the responsibility of rearing her two younger siblings. For this kind act they are forever grateful to her, and thank God for bestowing them with such an unselfish sister. When we would thank her for all she had done for us under the circumstances she would humbly say "we are family that's what I'm supposed to do." Those who knew her are probably shaking your heads in agreement saying to yourselves "yup that's Jeannie".

Jeannie had a very special zeal for life and loved to laugh and have a good time. If you ever had a problem you knew going to her she would always have a listening ear and would never judge. She would then offer her gentle and sometimes not so gentle advice to the young and old in a way that only Jeannie could deliver. Jeannie warmly touched everyone she met, your first encounter with her was so special it left you coming back for more.

Jeannie departed this life on February 16, 2010 to be with the Lord. We will greatly miss our sister, mother, daughter-in-law, grandmother, niece, cousin, sister-in-law and friend. God has prepared a perfect place for Jeannie. She is survived by her loving mate and husband of 34 years Bruce W. Edwards, 3 daughters Shalon Perry, Shauntella Edwards, Shalicia Edwards, 3 sons Kenneth Darryl Turner, Terrell Edwards, Tavonne Edwards, 7 Grandchildren Rani Perry, Rayvon Perry, Sanna Mack, DaQuan Keating, Maliachi Edwards, Zyshawn Brown, LaVaughn Jean Brown, 9 siblings Edna Durbin, Charles Wilson, Carolyn Hawkins, Marvin Wilson, Barbara Sheard(Stanley), Deborah Johnson(Floyd), Theresa Fulmer(Thomas), Joyce Twitty(William), Keith Wilson, father-in-law Raymond Bradley, mother-in-law Elizabeth Bradley, 3 brother-in-laws Mike Branch, Bradford(Carolyn) Edwards, Arthur (Donna) Edwards, 1 sister-in-law Deborah Edwards and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other in-laws, and friends.

Jeannie was also preceded in death by her first born baby girl, her nephew Terrance Sheard and her brother-in-law Louis Branch.

Services will be held February 20, 2010 at Mt Calvary UAME Church, viewing is from 11:00- 12:00 funeral at 12:30pm.
