Kahler, Charles "Buck"

OCEAN CITY - Charles "Buck" Kahler, age 80, died Saturday, February 17, 2007 at his home in Ocean City. Born in Baltimore, he was the son of the late August and Agnes Kahler of Essex, Md. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 55 years, Lil in 2005.

Buck was a WWII US Navy Veteran. He was employed as a senor electrical start-up engineer with The Bechtel Power Co., retiring in 1991. He was a member of St. Luke Catholic Church, Delmarva Irish American Club, I.B.E.W. Local #24, AARP, VFW Post 8296 and the American Legion Post 166.

He is survived by his son, Charles "Buck" Kahler Jr. And his wife Linda of San Jose, Calif. And daughter Patricia Fyffe and her husband Jack of Preston, MD; 2 brothers, August and David Kahler both of Baltimore; 2 sisters, Irene Oldelwurtel and her husband Frank, also of Baltimore, and Agnes Mattheu and her husband Frank of Glen Rock, PA.; 6 grandchildren; Jamelen Mahan and her husband Greg, Jason Kahler and his wife Nadia, Jennifer Miley, Jesse, Casey and Sean Fyffe, and 2 great grandchildren, Shianne and Christopher Miley.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday 11 am at St. Luke Catholic Church where family will receive friends one hour prior. Rev. Thomas Protack will be the Celebrant. A graveside service will be held Saturday 12 noon at Glen Haven Memorial Park in Glen Burnie. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Buck's honor to Coastal Hospice PO Box 1733 Salisbury, MD 21802. Arrangements are being handled by the Burbage Funeral Home in Berlin.

Ilin, Anna Helen

Anna Helen Ilin, 77 of Eden, died Tuesday, February 19, 2002 at Salisbury Center Genesis Elder Care in Salisbury. She was born in the Ukraine.

She attended First Baptist Church of Fruitland.

She is survived by; two sons: Valentin Ilin and wife Gertrude of Marion and Walter Ilin of Eden; and three grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mychialo Ilin and a son, Andy Ilin.

A funeral service will be held Friday, February 22, 2002 at 11 A.M. at Holloway Funeral Home in Salisbury. Visitation will be Thursday evening from 7 to 9 PM and one hour prior to the service. The Rev. Walter 'Dow' Wood will officiate. Interment will be in First Baptist Cemetery in Pocomoke City, MD.

Insley, Dr. Philip A.

Dr. Philip A. Insley, Sr., 93 of Salisbury, died Tuesday, February 12, 2002 in Peninsula Regional Medical Center. Born in Cambridge, he was the son of the late Judge T. Sangston and Emily Burdick Winterbottom Insley. His wife, Elinor Nichols Insley preceded him in death.

He is survived by his son, Dr. Philip A. Insley, Jr. and his wife Jacqueline C. Insley of Salisbury and his daughter Emily Loudell Insley of Salisbury; four grandchildren, Virginia Brennan of Salisbury, Robin Insley of New York City, Kristin Brady of Annapolis and Philip A. Insley, III of Baltimore; five great-grandchildren and one niece. In addition to his wife, a sister, Frances Insley Carroll preceded him in death.

Dr. Insley graduated from University of Maryland, College Park in 1930 and University of Maryland Medical School in 1934. While in school he was elected to the honorary fraternity ODK and was a member of Sigma Chi.. Following medical school graduation Dr. Insley continued training in surgery under the preceptor ship of Dr. Robert Bay at Maryland General Hospital in Baltimore. He opened his practice in Salisbury in 1936. Declared an essential doctor in the Salisbury area during WWII, Dr. Insley was deferred from active duty. During the last year of WWII, in addition to his general surgery practice and duties as a general practitioner, Dr. Insley delivered more than 250 babies. Later in his career he limited his practice to General Surgery and General Practice until his retirement in 1978. He served as President of Wicomico County Medical Society, (1945) and was Chief of Staff of Peninsula General Hospital, (1955-1956). During his tenure as chief of staff, he was very active in the planning and building of Peninsula Regional Medical Centers new building.

Dr. Insley was a charter member of the Salisbury Biracial Commission, which was involved in the peacefull integration of Wicomico County. He was also a member of The Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce, and a member and past president of the Salisbury Rotary Club, (1955-1956). In 1997 he was recognized for 57 years of service to the Rotary Club of Salisbury and Rotary International. His professional affiliations include: American College of Surgeons, Southern Medical Association, American Board of Abdominal Surgeons and the Wicomico County Medical Society. He was a member of Green Hill Yacht and Country Club where he was former club champion and senior club champion. He also won the Presidents Cup three times. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church for over 50 years, where he served as past president of the Board of Trustees.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 16, 2002 at 1:00 PM in Trinity United Methodist Church in Salisbury. Rev. George R. Patterson will officiate. Interment will be in Parsons Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church Building Fund, 112 High Street, Salisbury, MD 21802.

Haddaway, George W.

George W. Haddaway, of Mt Holly, passed away at his home on Sunday December 10, 2000. He was 74. He was born at Lakesville on March 19, 1926 the son of the late George Bernice and Flossie Wheatley Haddaway.

He had graduated from Crapo High School in 1943. Mr. Haddaway had served in the U.S. Army Air Corps. in WW II. He had served in the South Pacific on Johnson Island. On September 25, 1947 he married the former Norma Jean Mueller. He has owned and operated Haddaway's Shell Station in Cambridge since 1951. He was a member of the Immanuel United Church of Christ, Past President of the Church Council; Cambridge Lodge No. 66 A.F. & A.M.; Cambridge York Rite Bodies, Hayward Royal Arch Chapter # 29, Zabud Council # 9 R & SM, Cambridge Commandery # 14 Knights Templar, 32nd Degree Scottish Rite, Past Grand Tall of Chesapeake Forest # 115 Tall Cedars of Lebanon, Boumi Temple AAONMS of Baltimore, Eastern Shore Shrine Club, Minerva Chapter # 50 Order of the Eastern Star, Pitman Masonic Club, Life Member of Dorchester Post # 91 American Legion and Life Member Choptank Memorial Post # 7460 V.F.W. He had been in failing health for several months when he passed away at his home on Sunday evening.

He is survived by his wife, Jean Haddaway of Mt Holly, two daughters and sons in law: Sandra H. and Wallace E. Dodson of Cambridge, Susan H. and James M. Creighton of Cambridge, five grandchildren: Scott E. Dodson, and his wife Amy Dodson, John R. Dodson, Josh A. Dodson, Sarah J. Creighton and Jake T. Creighton all of Cambridge. Mr. Haddaway is also survived by one sister: Genevieve H. Morris of Lakesville and two nephews, V. Keith Morris of Cambridge and Roger H. Morris of Church Creek and one niece, Sharon G. Conn of Baltimore. He was preceded in death by a sister, Bernice H. Grabus and a brother, James L. Haddaway.

A Funeral service will be held on Thursday afternoon at 2:00 PM at the Immanuel United Church of Christ on Peachblossom Avenue in Cambridge with the Rev. Joan P. Evans officiating. Interment will follow at East New Market Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at the Thomas Funeral Home in Cambridge where members of Cambridge Lodge No. 66 will conduct a Memorial Service at 8:00 PM. Memorial Contributions may be made to either the Immanuel United Church of Christ, 900 Peachblossom Avenue, Cambridge, MD 21613 or to the Coastal Hospice Foundation, P.O. Box 1733, Salisbury, MD 21802.

Pallbearers will be Scott E. Dodson, John R. Dodson, Josh A. Dodson, Jake T. Creighton, Vernon L. Morris, V. Keith Morris, Roger H. Morris and James Foxwell.

Haensler, Kenneth Matthew

Kenneth Matthew Haensler, 75, of Salisbury, MD, died Sunday, May 29, 2005 at his home in Salisbury, MD.

Born February 10, 1930 in Baltimore, MD, he was the son of the late Matthew and the late Meta (Praeger) Haensler.

Mr. Haensler graduated from Baltimore Polytechnic Institute in 1947 and from John Hopkins University in 1950 with a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Civil Engineering. He started a career in Civil Engineering in 1950. In 1966, Ken moved to the Eastern Shore and served as sanitary engineer, assistant director of Public Works and director of Public Works. Ken was also an ASCE member since he was a college student; he was also very active in the Chesapeake Water Pollution Control Federation and served as chairman from 1977 to 1978 for the American Water Works Association. Since his retirement in 1986, Ken had served as president of the Delmarva Science and Engineering Association, served on the Board of the Salisbury Wicomico Arts Council, was Lower Shore representative of the JHU admissions office and as a volunteer with the internationally recognized Salisbury Zoological Park.

Mr. Haensler is survived by two sons: John McNeill "Mick" Haensler of Salisbury and Matthew Kenneth Haensler of Ocean City.

A memorial service will be held at Holloway Funeral Home on Thursday at 1:00PM . Friends may call one hour prior to the service.

Contributions may be made to Coastal Hospice P.O. Box 1733 Salisbury, Maryland 21801-1733.

Arrangements are being handled by Holloway Funeral Home, 501 Snow Hill Road, Salisbury, MD 21804.

Haetler, Helen E.

Helen E. Haetler, 66, of Cambridge passed away on Sunday, June 26, 2005 at her residence. She was born in Baltimore on August 8, 1938 and was a daughter of the late Harry F. and Lillian York Sample.

Mrs. Haetler graduated from Kenwood School in Baltimore. On May 17, 1968 she married Charles W. Haetler, Sr. who passed away on September 2, 1987. She had worked at Airpax in Cambridge until she retired in 2000. She loved her cats, liked to paint and travel.

Mrs. Haetler is survived by a son Charles W. "Chuck" Haetler, Jr. of East New Market, a sister Ella Tomison of Baltimore, two brothers Bud and Bob Sample both of Baltimore. Besides her parents and her husband she is preceded in death by a sister Mary Sample.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 2, 2005 at 1 p.m. at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge with Rev. Kevin E. English officiating. Burial will follow at Dorchester Memorial Park. A visitation will be one hour prior to the service.

Hackett, Louise Brannock

Louise Brannock Hackett of Eldorado Road, Rhodesdale, MD, died at her home on Friday, August 15, 2003. She was 86 years of age.

She was born Dec. 25, 1916 in Cambridge, the daughter of the late William Bain Brannock, Sr. and India Carol Mills Brannock. Her husband, Luke Kennerly Hackett, III, preceded her on July 11, 1985.

She was a graduate of Cambridge High School Cambridge, Maryland, Class of 1933. She was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church near Eldorado since 1935. She served on various committees, Administrative Council, Staff Pastor Relations Committee, Board of Trustees, and taught Youth Sunday School for over 35 years. She was employed by the Dorchester County Board of Education from September 1954 until May, 1993. She served as manager of the North Dorchester High School cafeteria for more than 30 years. She was a journalist for over 50 years writing community events for the local news media. She assisted her late husband with his truck and dairy farm operations. She was a lifetime member of the Eldorado-Brookview Vol. Fire Company Auxiliary, a member of the Dorchester County Farm Bureau, the American Red Cross, Fork District Homemakers club, and lifetime member of the P.T.A. She was an officer in the Order of the Eastern Star of East New Market. She served as clerk for the town of Eldorado and as an organizer for the local 4-H club. Her interest and hobbies reflected serving her church, community and her family.

She is survived by a daughter, Alice Joan Hackett of Salisbury, and a son, Donald Brannock Hackett and his wife, Vanessa Brown Hackett of Eldorado, 4 grandchildren, Darrell Wayne Messick of Salisbury, Stephen Bain Hackett, Emily Hackett Stone, Donald Brannock Hackett, II, all of Eldorado, 2 great-grandchilden, and a grand-God daughter, Lisa Joan Killmon Stone. A daughter, Carolyn Hackett Grubb, and a brother, William Bain Brannock, Jr. preceded her in death.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2003 at Wesley United Methodist Church, near Eldorado, MD at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Ruth Tull officiating. Friends may call at the church from 1:00 - 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery in Federalsburg.

Memorial contributions may be made to Wesley United Methodist Church, c/o Gladys Eskridge, 6406 Raven Avenue, Seaford, DE 19973 or to the Eldorado-Brookview Volunteer Fire Co., 5752 Eldorado Rd., Rhodesdale, MD 21659, or to Dove Pointe, P.O. Frank McKill Raine Jr. 75, of Marion Station, MD, died Thursday, May 23, 2002 at his residence.

Cremation followed his death, no formal services are planned at this time.
