Ragan, John Joseph

John Joseph Ragan, 83 of Still Pond, MD, died Saturday, November 3, 2001 at Memorial Hospital at Easton. Born in Philadelphia, PA, he was the son of the late John Patrick and Elizabeth Morrison Ragan.

Mr. Ragan attended Temple University. He was a US Marine veteran who served in World War II in the Pacific Theatre. He was a contract engineer for DuPont Company. Memberships include Betterton VFD in Betterton, MD and life member of American Legion.

He is survived by his wife Virginia M. Ragan of Still Pond, MD and former wife, Florence A. Thorton of Glenolden, PA; two children and their spouses: Patricia and Burt Schauber of Chestertown, MD and Robert J. and Susan Ragan of Salisbury; two sisters: Betty McCully and her husband Bud of Glenolden, PA and Miss Mary Ragan of Bryn Mawr, PA; a brother, Frank Ragan of Cape May, NJ; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial mass will be held at a later date in Philadelphia, PA.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in his memory to Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 215 Goldsborough St., Easton, MD 21601.

Arrangements are being handled by Holloway Funeral Home, 501 Snow Hill Rd., Salisbury, MD 21804.

Rainbolt, Phyllis Jean

POCOMOKE CITY - Phyllis Jean Rainbolt, 78, of near Pocomoke City, died Friday, June 9, 2006, at Manokin Manor Nursing Home in Princess Anne.

Born in Dover, Kansas she was the daughter of the late William Earl Maus and Edith Chevron Maus. She had been making her home near Pocomoke City since 1977.

Surviving is here husband of 60 years, Clyde King Rainbolt; a daughter, Mary "Susie" Rainbolt of Pocomoke City, and two sons, Howard and Dale Rainbolt. There are 7 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held on Monday, June 19, 2006 at 2:00 P.M. at Milbourne Landing State Park near Pocomoke City.

Arrangements are in the care of Bradshaw & Sons Funeral Home, Crisfield, MD

Abbott, Jr., Edward M.

Edward M. 'Eddie' Abbott, Jr. 49 of Crapo, passed away on Tuesday May 8, 2007 at the Chesapeake Woods Center in Cambridge. He was born in Cambridge on January 30, 1958 and was a son of Mary Frances 'Manie' Adams Dean and Edward Mace Abbott, Sr.

Eddie attended Crapo Elementary and graduated from South Dorchester High School in 1976. He worked as a boat builder and later worked as a waterman. He enjoyed fishing and being on the water and helping people. He had been in failing health for the past two years and had been at Chesapeake Woods since January 14 where he passed away early Tuesday morning.

Survivors include his wife Raye Abbott of Crapo, one daughter Angela Purdum and her husband Keith Purdum of Baltimore, one son Bryan Edward Abbott and his wife Beth Abbott of Hurlock, two step children Devin Hurley of Salisbury and Brandon Hurley of Salisbury, three grandchildren Brian Edward Abbott, Jr., Camryn Abbott and Caitlin Purdum, his mother Mary Frances 'Manie' Dean of Wingate and his father E. Mace Abbott and his step mother Darlene Abbott of Bishops Head, two sisters Cathy A. Donaldson and her husband Jeff Donaldson of Hurlock and Cherie Lynn Parry of Cambridge, one step brother F.O. 'Skip' Dean Jr. of Seattle and one step sister Elaine Pohl of Cambridge. He is also survived by four nieces Michele Moxey, Lauren Zdunowski, Leigh Anne King and Ravin Bryan. He was preceded in death by a brother Michael Pritchett and his step father F. O'Neal Dean.

A funeral service will be held on Friday afternoon at 1:00 PM at the White Haven United Methodist Church in Church Creek with the Rev. Robert G. Kirkley officiating. Interment will follow at Dorchester Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge. Memorial contributions may be made to the Taylors Island United Methodist Church, c/o Ellie Pollie, P.O. Box 215, Taylors Island, MD 21669 or to the Lake & Straits Vol. Fire Co., 2103 Farm Creek Road, Wingate, MD 21675. Pallbearers will be Donnie Simmons, Darren Todd, Scott Betts, Joe Joe Ruark, Jim Adams, Tony Hayden and Charles Hayward.

Abrams, Edwin F.

Edwin F. Abrams, 73, of Ocean Pines, died Wednesday, December 19, 2001 at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury.

Born in Philadelphia, PA he was the son of the late Harry Meyer Abrams and Anna Grace Taylor Abrams

Mr. Abrams was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He retired after many years of service from the EPA as an environmental engineer. He was a pillar of Temple Bat Yam in Ocean Pines and was a board member and editor of the Temple bulletin. He was active in the Ocean Pines Players, was a member of the Democratic Club of Worcester County, and was an avid poker player with his friends.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Jeannette Greenfield Abrams of Ocean Pines; son, Harry Michael Abrams of Sierra Vista, AZ, daughters: Ann-Lynn Jordan of Gilbertsville, PA, Marla Beth Watts of Ocean Pines, and Barbara Ruth Hunkeler of Odenton, MD; sister, Shirley Armstrong of Delray Beach, FL; brother, Norman Abrams of Pembroke Pines, FL; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held Thursday, December 20, 2001 at 2 PM at

Temple Bat Yam in Berlin. Interment will be in Beth Israel Cemetery in Salisbury. The family will receive friends at their home after the services.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in his memory to Temple Bat Yam, 11036 Worcester Highway, Berlin, MD 21811.

Abbott, Monnie Mae

Monnie Mae Abbott, 78 of Toddville, passed away at the Mallard Bay Care Center in Cambridge on Saturday June 13, 2009. She was born at Robbins on December 6, 1930 and was a daughter of the late Ollie and Rosie Abbott Mills.

She attended schools in Dorchester County. On April 12, 1952 she was married to William Parks Abbott, Sr. Mr. Abbott passed away on October 6, 1987.

She was a homemaker for most of her life.

Mrs. Abbott was a member of the Lakes & Straits Fire Company and Cambridge Lodge No. 1211 Ladies of the Moose.

She enjoyed dancing, spending time with her family and listening to country and gospel music.

Mrs. Abbott had been in failing health for several years, and she had been a resident at the Mallard Bay Care Center for the past 3 months where she passed away early Saturday morning.

Survivors include 10 children Shirley Hicks of Cambridge, Carolyn Simmons of Toddville, Barbara Willey and her husband Carl Willey of Wingate, Marie Dryden of Cambridge, Harvey Abbott, Sr. of Cambridge, Maryland Spies and her husband Elmer Spies of Cambridge, Parks Junior Abbott of Toddville, James Abbott of Manchester, Tennessee, Mary Diane Jones and her husband James Jones of Cambridge, Wylie E. Abbott and his wife Beverly Abbott of Cambridge, 24 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren 3 great great grandchildren, She is also survived by 6 Step children Betty Hasting of Cambridge, Mae Fitzhugh of Cambridge, Lottie King of Cambridge, Joy Jackson of Cambridge, Harold Abbott of Cambridge, Loretta Dibble of Cambridge, two sisters Lillian Warfield of Cambridge and Gloria Jean Thomas of Cambridge and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and her husband, Mrs. Abbott is preceded in death by a sister Mary Elizabeth Newcomb, a step daughter Ramona Lankford and a step son William Parks Abbott, Jr.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday afternoon at 1:00 PM at the Wesley Church at Andrews with the Rev. Linda Jones and the Rev. Lavone Chester officiating. Interment will follow in the adjoining churchyard. The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge. Memorial contributions may be made to the Wesley Church, c/o Mr. Lee Hughes, 2612 Shane Circle, Cambridge, MD 21613.. Pallbearers will be Harvey Abbott, Sr., James Abbott, Park Junior Abbott, Wylie Abbott, Junior Morgan and James Jones. Honorary bearers will be Frankie Warner and Billy Wingate, Jr.

Abbott, Ruby

Ruby Abbott, 79, of Cambridge, passed away on Thursday afternoon, October 4, 2001 at the Memorial Hospital as a result of injuries received in an auto accident. She was the wife of the late Wilson J. Abbott.

She was born in the Sewards area of Dorchester County on November 29, 1921, the daughter of the late Joseph and Estella Mills Willey. She was raised and attended public schools in Dorchester County. For over 50 years Mrs. Abbott was employed as a retail sales clerk at the McCrory's and the F.W. Woolworth stores in Cambridge. On April 19, 1941 she was married to Mr. Abbott who passed away on February 20, 1978.

She is survived by two daughters, Rebecca Shenton and her husband Robert, of Cambridge and Janet Brinkman of Damascus, MD, two grandchildren, Lisa Rippons and Christopher Brinkman, three sisters, Edna Wheatley of Milford, DE, Ruth Evans of Ocean Pines, and Anna Mae Marsh of Cordova, four brothers, Joseph Byrd Willey, Ray Willey, and Guy Willey, all of Cambridge and Levi Willey of Snow Hill, and several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by a sister Helen Walk.

A funeral service will be conducted at the Thomas Funeral Home on Monday afternoon at 1 o'clock. Rev. Dale L. Vroman, pastor of Zion United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will take place in Dorchester Memorial Park. Friends will be received at the funeral home on Monday during the hour before the service. Memorial contributions may be made to any favorite charity.

INEZ NORTH ABBOTT

Inez North Abbott, 92 years of age, of Cambridge, MD, died Friday night, March 5, 2004 at Mallard Bay Care Center, Cambridge, MD.

Born on May 27, 1911 at Robbins, Dorchester County, MD, she was the daughter of the late George Riley North and Lula E. Abbott North.

Mrs. Abbott attended schools at Griffith's Neck, Dorchester County, MD. In 1927 she married Arthur Abbott. He died in 1972.

Mrs. Abbott was a faithful member of Souls Harbor Church of God, Cambridge, MD and treasured her Bible. She was proud to be the oldest member of the church.

Mrs. Abbott was an Avon representative for many years. She was also a World Champion Muskrat Skinner for two years. Mrs. Abbott and her husband enjoyed trapping muskrats and turtles.

Mrs. Abbott was employed by Baker Robbins and Ed Leonard tomato canning factories.

Surviving are two sons Theodore R. (Ted) Abbott, Sr. and his wife Bonnie of Lakesville, MD, Elihu Abbott and his wife Doris of Robbins, MD, three sisters Lois Smack of Arkansas, Ruth Hurst of Florida, Helen Gray Dixon of Elliott's Island, MD, a brother Johnnie North and his wife Margaret Elizabeth of Cambridge, MD, seven grandchildren Bruce Abbott and his wife Kathy of Taylors Island, MD, Brenda Holotik, Sheila Jones, both of Linkwood, MD, Elihu Abbott, Jr. and his wife Robin of Cambridge, MD, Denise Lauck and her husband Dale of East New Market, MD, Donna Abbott of Cambridge, MD, T.J. Abbott of Lakesville, MD, twelve great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Preceding her in death besides her parents and husband was a brother Herbert R. North, Sr., a sister-in-law Oseola North, three brothers-in-law Richard Smack, Bob Hurst and John Dixon.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 9th at 1:00 p.m. at Curran-Bromwell Funeral Home, P.A., where the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Officiating at the service will be The Rev. J. Edward King, Pastor of Souls Harbor Church of God, Cambridge. Burial will follow at Sandy Island Cemetery, Robbins, Dorchester County, MD.

Pallbearers will be T.J. Abbott, Danny Keene, Herbert R. North, Jr., Bruce Meekins, Dale Lauck and Leo Bradley.

The family suggests that expressions of sympathy be made by either sending flowers or making memorial offerings in Mrs. Abbott's memory to Soul's Harbor Church of God, P.O. Box 1147, Cambridge, MD 21613.
