Abbott, Joseph Lester

JOSEPH LESTER "JOE" ABBOTT, 65, of Crisfield, died Thursday, December 10, 2009 in Crisfield.

Born in Crisfield on June 8, 1944, he was a son of Ellestine Nelson Abbott of Crisfield and the late Frankie W. Abbott.

Along with his mother, he is survived by a son, Joseph Lester Abbott, Jr; a daughter, Peggy Jo Abbott; a sister, Wenona "Weenie" Abbott; a brother, David Abbott; and many other relatives.

No services are planned at this time.

Arrangements are in the care of Bradshaw & Sons Funeral Home in Crisfield.

Waldon, Mary Catherine

Mary Catherine (Collins) Waldon was born on September 3, 1921 in Bel Air, Md. to the late Daniel and Lula Thomas Collins. She was reared by her aunt and uncle, Tom and Hattie Hill.

Mary Catherine married Francis Waldon more than 65 years ago, and they are the parents of five children. She was a loving and devoted wife and mother.

She received her early education at Kalmia Elementary and Bel Air Colored Schools and her early Christian Education at Clarks Chapel Methodist Church. She joined Mt. Zion Baptist Church under the pastorate of the late

Rev. M. C. Phillips about sixty five years ago. She loved to sing and was a member of the Senior Choir and The Choral Ensemble traveling to local churches for many years to sing for Women's Day Programs. She was a faithful member of the Pastor's Aide Ministry, assisted in the kitchen and helped any ministry when needed.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her loving husband, Francis Waldon; children, Patricia J. Brown (Alberto), Anderson Waldon (Wilhemina) and Earl F. Waldon; adopted daughter, Linda Holly; grandchildren, Phillip N. Harris, Jr. (Donna), Douglas E. Harris, Sr. (Dia), Kevin D. Harris, Irene V. Wright (Sam), Michael T. Harris of Afghanistan, Shiena Webster, Monique, Maurice and Courtney Waldon, Tammy N. Waldon of Hawaii, Alex L Waldon (Saeko) of Japan, Jamar Waldon and Earl C. Waldon; great grandchildren Philmilia Casey, Samara and Candace Wright, Vonavia Harris, Timothy Webster, Shantell, Kevin Jr., Devyn Harris, Douglas E. Harris II, Ovant Hill, Javonte Waldon and Jaysean Waldon; great great grandchildren, Dessa and Demi Myles, Steven M. Williams (Jai), Anthony Webster and Daijoun Sconion; loving sister, Hattie Galloway; brothers Wade Boman and Carvel Warfield; sisters in law, Bertha Taylor, Marie Waldon and Drema Waldon and brothers in law, Winston Waldon and Bishop Claude Waldon (Alberta); loving nephew James Collins (Phyllis) and cousin Standiford "Bunny" Hill and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends, loving church family members Catherine Adams, Theresa Winder and daughters and Mr. & Mrs. Jeffrey Martin.

She was predeceased by children Patrician Dade and Clifton O'Neil Collins and adopted son Dwight Holly; siblings Alice Boyd, Thelma Jones, Florence Scott and Louise Warfield.

Visitation will be held Wednesday October 6, 2010, 4p.m.-7p.m. at Lisa Scott Funeral Home and Thursday October 7, 2010, 10a.m.-12p.m. at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 520 Lewis Street, Havre de Grace, MD where funeral will start at 12p.m. Burial will be in St. James United Cemetery, Havre de Grace, MD.

Creighton, Marjorie W.

Marjorie W. Creighton, 90 of Cambridge, passed away at the Chesapeake Woods Center on Wednesday, October 6, 2010. She was born at Buckneck Farm, near Cambridge, on December 25, 1919, and was a daughter of the late James T. Windsor, Sr. and the late Irene Willey Windsor.

Marjorie graduated from Cambridge High School, and later attended Nursing School at Cambridge Maryland Hospital. She was a lifelong member of Friendship United Methodist Church where she volunteered as organist for more than 30 years. Marjorie had been active in Dorchester General Hospital Auxiliary where she served in many ways, especially as a volunteer at the Robin Hood Shop. She was married to R. Hance Creighton in September of 1939. He passed away on March 13, 1983. Marjorie was an accomplished seamstress, loved to read, loved nature, her pets, and her beautiful trees. She was gifted with the ability to be always cheerful, with a positive outlook, and was always able to see the best, to give a helping hand, and extend love wherever she was. Marjorie will be remembered for her happy and loving kind ways, and her cheerful manner by her many friends and family who loved her dearly. She had been a resident at the Chesapeake Woods Center in Cambridge for the past three months where she passed away early Wednesday morning.

Survivors include a daughter Cynthia Gerber of Punta Gorda, Florida, one son Robert H. Creighton, Jr. of Vienna, four grandsons Robert Dean, Steve Dean, Chuck Creighton and Bill Creighton, nine great grandchildren Josh Creighton, Charles Creighton, Chala Creighton, James Creighton, Julia Creighton, Bob Dean, Nick Dean, Ben Dean and Noelle Dean and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by a brother Sheldon Windsor and his wife Dorothy Lee Windsor of Aireys. In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by her grandson James Windsor Dean, and two brothers James T. Windsor, Jr. and William Palmer Windsor.

A funeral service will be held on Sunday afternoon at 2:00 PM at the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge with the Rev. Mary Ann Farnell officiating. Interment will follow at the East New Market Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday evening from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at the Thomas Funeral Home, P.a. Pallbearers will be her grandsons Chuck Creighton, Bill Creighton, Robby Dean, Steve Dean, Josh Creighton and Chuck Creighton. Honorary bearers will be the caregivers who have taken care of her for the past three years Charlotte Willey, Carolyn Newcomb, Edie Finck, Sarah Sheets, Laura Johnson and Brenda Yeatman. Memorial contributions may be made to Friendship United Methodist Church, c/o Mrs. Doris Weber, 5163 Maple Dam Road, Cambridge, MD 21613, or to the Robin Hood Shop, 416 High Street, Cambridge, MD 21613.

Roy, Jr., Roland Lemuel

Roland L. Roy of Denton, MD, died peacefully at his home on Monday, October 25, 2010. He was 69 years old.

Born in Ann Arundel County, MD, Mr. Roy was the son of the late Roland Lemuel Roy, Sr. and Dorothy Leona Cannon Roy. He was a 1961 graduate of St. Mary's High school in Annapolis, MD.

Mr. Roy retired from the Annapolis Police Department in 1983. He moved to Denton in November, 1989. Mr. Roy, in his retirement, worked for many years with the Denton Little League on their baseball fields. In spite of many illnesses over the years, he tirelessly gave his time and energy to the youth of Caroline County. After Denton Little League, he worked for twelve years on the athletic fields of North Caroline High School near Ridgely, MD. For the past two years, he has worked on the Col. Richardson athletic fields in southern Caroline County. He was a US Army veteran, a member of the Caroline American Legion Post 29, and a member of the F.O.P.

Mr. Roy is survived by his wife, Theresa N. Roy of Denton; one son, Aaron G. Roy of Denton who is presently stationed in Germany with the US Army; an aunt, Anna Gronozik and her husband Matthew of CT; one nephew, Gerry Roy of Denton; one great niece, Heather Roy of Upper Marlboro, MD; and many cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by a brother, Gerald Roy.

A funeral service will be 7 PM Thursday evening, October 28th, at the Moore Funeral Home, P.A., 12 S. Second St. in Denton where friends may call from 6 until 7 before the service. The interment will be 10 AM Friday morning in the Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, 1911 Forest Drive in Annapolis.

The family suggests for memorial donations to be sent to the Caroline Hospice Foundation, PO Box 362, Denton, MD 21629.

Spies, Jr., Henry Alfred

Henry A. Spies, Jr. of Easton, MD, died Tuesday, May 19, 2009, at the Caroline Nursing Home in Denton, MD. He was 87 years old.

Born in Cordova, Mr. Spies was the son of the late Henry Alfred Spies, Sr. and Mary Macklem Spies. He grew-up on a farm on Chapel Road and was a graduate of the Cordova High School.

Mr. Spies farmed his entire life. Before retiring, he lived and farmed for many years in Lewistown. He belonged to the Talbot County Farm Bureau and the Talbot Rod and Gun Club. He was also a member of the American Soy Bean Association of which he had been the National president and also the Mid-Atlantic and Maryland president.

Mr. Spies is survived by his wife of 65 years, Edith M. Spies of Easton; one daughter, Susan S. Sterling and her husband, Joseph, of Seaford, DE; one son, Henry A. Spies III and his wife, Rosemary, of Lewistown; three brothers: Donald Spies, Sr. of Easton, James Spies of Ingleside, and William Spies of Seale, Alabama; four sisters: Nancy Cummins of Berlin, MD, Maryann Todd of Harmony, Sara Garrett of Easton, and Jane Ewing of Easton; four grandchildren: Karl Sterling and his wife Val, Henry Spies IV and his wife Cindy, Marybeth Fike and her husband Sam, and Vinson J, Spies and his wife Marianna; and 12 great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be 5 PM Friday, May 22nd, at the Moore Funeral Home, 12 S. Second St. in Denton, MD 21629 where friends may visit with the family one hour prior to the service. The interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests for friends to send memorial donations to the Caroline Nursing Home, 520 Kerr Ave., Denton, MD 21629.

Seymour, Kenneth M.

Minister Kenneth Michael Seymour was born on June 5, 1949 to Russell and Delores Camper, Jr. He peacefully departed this life on Sunday, May 10, 2009 at his home. He was preceded in death by a brother, Timothy Phillips and his son, McKevett Seymour.

He received his education in Baltimore, MD, graduating from Baltimore City College. He continued his education at Towson State University, receiving his B.S. degree in Early Childhood Development and his M.S. degree in Elementary Education.

He received Jesus as his personal savior and was baptized in the Holy Ghost on January 25, 1980 at Trinity Assembly of God in Lutherville, MD. In August of 1999 he joined Helping Hands Ministries under the leadership of Bishop Roger L. Tatuem and was actively involved as youth leader.

He married Sharon Murray on July 31, 1982. He was a loyal and faithful husband and loving father to his children.

His professional career began in Baltimore, MD in 1973 at Cathedral Kindergarten, as teacher and later Assistant Director. In 1990 he was a Primary Teacher in Baltimore County Public Schools. He was employed by Harford County Board of Education from 1991 to 2008, where he served as a teacher, Assistant Principal and Principal. At the time of his retirement he was Supervisor of Equity and Cultural Diversity.

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Sharon, his parents, Russell and Delores Camper, Jr. Two daughters, Amanda D. Seymour and Adrianne Wrenn; three sons, Ryan Seymour, David E. Williams, Jr., and Devin T. Street; one brother, Anthony Seymour; four sisters, Michelle Crawford, Robin Cook, Darlene Fassett and Carolyn George, six grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Service will be held at 12 noon on Saturday May 16, 2009 at Helping Hands Ministries, 3237 Level Road, Churchville, MD where friends may call starting at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be in Harford Memorial Gardens, Aberdeen, MD.

Byrd, Judith Faye "Judy"

JUDITH FAYE "JUDY" BYRD, 69, of Crisfield, died Monday, May 18, 2009 at her home.

Born in Crisfield on July 12, 1939, she was a daughter of Gladys Marshall Blades of Crisfield and the late James P. Blades. Her husband, Donald "Sparky" Byrd, died July 1, 1998.

A Crisfield High School graduate of the class of 1958, she was a homemaker and a member of Asbury United Methodist Church. She also attended the Crisfield Wesleyan Church most recently.

In her younger years she loved to dance. She also loved animals and flowers. She was a loving mother and grandmother, and always had an open ear and a kind word.

She is survived by two daughters and two sons, Teresa Justice Hall of Mason, Ohio, William "Billy" Justice and wife Margie of Crisfield, Laura Evans and husband Buddy of Ewell, Smith Island, and Chris Byrd of Crisfield; nine grandchildren, Alishia Wells, Monica and Sabrina Justice, of Crisfield, Joshua, Matthew and Brandon Hall of Mason, Ohio, Caleb Evans of Ewell, Smith Island, and Morgan Jedlicka and Christopher Byrd of Crisfield; one great-grandchild, Keon Duah of Crisfield; two sisters, Patricia "Patsy" Roman of Virginia Beach, VA, and Beverly Lynch and husband Dale of Pocomoke; one brother, Jim Blades and wife Patti of Pocomoke; and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, May 21, 2009 at 7 PM at the Crisfield Wesleyan Church where friends may call one hour prior to the service. The Rev. Bob Daniels will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory are requested to be sent to Wesleyan Church, 3071 Lawsonia Road, Crisfield, Maryland 21817.

Arrangements are in the care of Bradshaw & Sons Funeral Home in Crisfield.
