Berner, Jeanne A.
Jeanne Appleby Berner, 88, of Hollywood, MD. went to be with the Lord on Monday morning, April 20, 2009 at St. Mary's Nursing Center in Leonardtown, MD after a lengthy illness.
Jeanne was born on September 15, 1920 in Philadelphia, PA, the only child of George and Elizabeth Appleby and lived in the Bywood area for several years. During the depression she and her parents moved to Masonville, NJ and later to Moorestown, NJ. She attended Moorestown High School, and upon graduation went to secretarial school.
Her years as a secretary always brought back fond memories. From 1939 to 1941 she worked at the Park-In, Drive-In Theaters in Camden, NJ. During the war years she worked for the New York Shipbuilding Corp. in Gloucester, NJ. From 1946 to 1952 Jeanne worked for the Micronizer Processing Corp./Pittsburgh Plate Glass Company as secretary to the plant manager. From 1952 to 1954 she worked for A.C.S. Home Builders, Inc. in Moorestown. Probably her favorite job was working as a secretary to the principal at Moorestown High School from 1954 to 1957. She loved her co-workers and the students and fondly called them "her kids". She also briefly worked at Lenape High School while it was under construction. After her marriage, she worked for Gaskill Construction Company. In the 1970's she worked part time at Moorestown Middle School as an aide in the special education division.
In 1956 she married Herbert C. Berner whom she had admired since she was a young girl and settled in Moorestown where they had one daughter. In 1980 they moved to Laurel, DE. Several years after her husband passed away, she moved to Hollywood, MD to live with her only child, Susan Berner Morrison, Susan's husband Andrew Morrison, and Jeanne's granddaughters, Elizabeth and Rebecca.
Jeanne enjoyed reading, discussing current events, camping, and spending time with her family and dogs as well as being a "mentor" for elementary school children. She was the best mom a daughter could have.
In addition to her daughter and family, she is survived by her cousin, Jack Mears (who was like a brother) and his children, Cheryl Mears Smith and Terry Mears whom she dearly loved, as well as brother-and sister-in-laws, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert C. Berner, her parents, and one infant son, Tommy.
As she requested, a graveside service will be held on May 2, 2009 at the Odd Fellows Cemetery in Laurel, Delaware. at 2:00 pm.
Dill, Timothy Brian
Timothy B. Dill of Reliance, MD, formerly of Denton, MD, died Monday, May 18, 2009, at the Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury, MD. He was 48 years old.
Born in Easton, MD, Mr. Dill was the son of Myrna H. Dill of Denton and the late John Dill. He was a self-employed carpenter and was a member of the Seaford, DE Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 1728.
In addition to his mother, Mr. Dill is survived by one sister, Nancy J. Dorman of Smithville, MD; one brother, Darrell Dill, and his wife Kathy, of Hurlock, MD; three step-daughters, Regina White, Jesse Lynch, and Amanda Lynch; one niece, Shelly Dorman; one nephew, Jeffrey Dill; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
The funeral service will be 1 PM Thursday, May 21st, at the Moore Funeral Home, P.A., 12 S. Second St. in Denton, MD 21629 where friends may call from 6 until 8 on Wednesday evening and from 12 until 1 on Thursday. The interment will be in the Concord Cemetery on Route 313.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be sent to the Arthritis Foundation, PO Box 96280, Washington, DC 20077-7491 or to the charity of choice.
Bryan, Ronald W. "Ronnie"
Ronald W. “Ronnie” Bryan III, 18 of Chateau, passed away at the Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury on Sunday May 24, 2009. He was born in Cambridge on July 28, 1990 and was the son of Melissa Travis and Ronald W. Bryan, Jr.
Ronnie attended schools in Cambridge, and graduated from Cambridge South Dorchester High School in 2008. Since graduation he had been working at C&K; Lord in Cambridge. He enjoyed sports, hunting, fishing and boating.
Survivors include his mother Melissa Travis of Cambridge and his father Ronald W. Bryan, Jr. of Chateau, his maternal grandmother Joyce Schultie of Blades, Delaware and his paternal grandparents Ronald W. Bryan, Sr. and Carol Bryan of Cambridge, 2 aunts Dawn Bryan and Jeannie Travis. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather Richard Travis.
A funeral service will be held on Friday afternoon at 1:00 PM at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church on Maryland Avenue in Cambridge with the Rev. Fred Bahr officiating. Interment will follow at the East New Market Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 6:00 to 9:00 PM at the Thomas funeral Home, P.A. and from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM on Friday at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church. Pallbearers will be Clint Collins, Troy Thomas, Josh Bradshaw, Dylan Tyler, Billy Neild and Ken Pick.
Thornton, Christopher B.
Christopher Brian Thornton of Denton, Maryland, died Wednesday, July 28, 2010, at Kent General Hospital in Dover, Delaware. He was eight years old.
Born in Easton, Maryland, on June 8, 2002, Chris was the son of Cheri and Brian Thornton of Denton.
Chris loved playing baseball, participating in Cub Scouts, swimming, riding his bike fast, fishing with his family, working in the shop, and giving his sister a hard time. Whether he was up to something or absolutely nothing, his smile would infect everyone around him.
In addition to his parents, Chris is survived by one sister, Clara Kate Thornton of Denton, MD; his paternal grandparents, Carl L. Thornton and his wife, Jillisa, of Easton, MD and Linda J. Fogg and her husband, Glenn, of Annapolis, MD; maternal grandmother, Ruth Ann B. Crouse of Denton, MD; paternal great-grandmother, Rachel Uber of Denton, MD; one aunt, Kimberly Miller and her husband, Christopher of Centreville, MD; great-uncles Raymond Berkner, Harry O. Sperling, Robert L. Uber, and Tom Thornton and his wife, Virginia; one great-aunt, Mary Anne Truscello; and cousins, Andrew and Davis Miller and Lillian and Matthew Thornton. He was predeceased by his maternal grandfather, Daniel L. Crouse; his aunt, Amy Danielle Crouse; his paternal great-grandfather Lloyd T. Uber; and his paternal great-grandmother, Helen B. Thornton.
Funeral Services will be at 1 o'clock on Saturday, July 31st, at St. Luke's United Methodist Church, Fifth and Franklin Streets in Denton, where friends may call from 11 a.m. -1 p.m. on Saturday.
Interment will be in Denton Cemetery, Denton, Maryland.

Johnson, Blanche D.
Blanche Dorothy (Gordon) Johnson, age 80 of Havre de Grace, MD departed this life Friday, May 8, 2009 at Citizens Care Center, Havre de Grace, MD. She was born in Buckingham County, Virginia January 16, 1929. Her parents William Gordon and Rosa (Lockett) Gordon were the parents of eleven children. The Gordon family moved to Harford County in 1934. Blanche began her public schooling at the Swan Creek Elementary School. She graduated from Havre de Grace Colored High School in June of 1946. She started her Christian journey as a child in what is now the Union United Methodist Church on Post Road. She met and married Alfred W. Johnson in 1947. To this union one child was born, Valerie Patricia.
Blanche was a devoted employee of Bata Shoe Company for 19 years until an unexpected illness forced her to retire.
She was preceded in death by her parents William and Rosa Gordon, her sisters Queen Esther, Mary Elizabeth, Martha Eliza, Josephine, Ruth Arlene, and brothers, Charles Lewis, John Alexander, William Ellsworth, and James Monroe. Their parents loved and raised Fred Gordon as one of their own and he also preceded them in death.
She leaves to cherish her precious memories her loving and devoted husband Alfred; loving and devoted daughter and son in law Valerie and Isom Brown of Edgewood, MD; three grandchildren, Kyndra Jackson (Dalmar) of Texas, Kirstopher and Kayla Brown of Edgewood, MD; one great grandson, Donavon Jackson of Texas. She also leaves to cherish her memory one sister, Iva Cecelia Stewart; devoted brother in law Macon L. Tucker, Sr.; sister in law Thelma L. Gordon; and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and cousins that will miss her.
Services will be held at 12 p.m. on Thursday May 14, 2009 at Gospel Tabernacle Church, 330 Superior Street, Havre de Grace, MD where family and friends may call starting at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be in St. James United Cemetery, Havre de Grace, MD.

Chapman, Betty L.
BETTY LOUISE BROWN CHAPMAN daughter of the late Morton and Bertha Brown was born on September 5, 1933 in Cecil County, Maryland. She departed this life on Tuesday, February 3, 2009 at her home.
She received her education in the Cecil County Public School. She was employed throughout Cecil County and retired from Perry Point Veterans Hospital, Perry Point, Maryland after 30 years of service.
Betty loved the Lord and was a faithful member of Bethel A.M.E. Church in Port Deposit, Maryland under the leadership of Pastor Michael Thompson. She was an active member serving as a Missionary and Steward Vice President.
Betty met and married George Benson Chapman Sr. and from this union seven children were born. They were married for 57 years. She loved her family and enjoyed family gatherings. Betty was a loving and caring person and would do anything for anybody.
She leaves to cherish her memory; her husband George Benson Chapman Sr.; 1 son, George "Brother" Benson (Enola) Chapman Jr.; 5 daughters; Victoria Berry, Georgianna (Walter) Hogue, Annette (Pastor Calvin) Wilson, Lavenia Christine (Marshall) Fields and Ernestine (Mark) Thompson; 2 brothers, Carl "Doodle" Brown, Port Deposit and Earl Brown, Perryville, Maryland; 4 brothers-in-law, Franklin Stewart, Sr., Richard (Catherine) Chapman, Sr., Eugene (Helen) Chapman, Sr. Daniel (Audrey) Chapman, Sr.; 5 sisters-in-law, Catherine (Roy) Wilson, Sarah Clay, Mary (John) Chapman and Mary Chapman; 23 grandchildren; 33 great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins that out of love became her sons and daughter, and many close friends.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents Morton and Bertha Brown, daughter, Sheila Chapman, 3 sisters Sylvia Stewart, Lavenia Murray, Bertha Townley; and 3 brothers, Richard Brown, Rayfield Brown and Amos Brown.
A visitation will take place Saturday, February 7, 2009 from 10 a.m. to 12 noon at Bethel A.M.E. Church, 196 Main Street, Port Deposit, Maryland. Funeral service will follow starting at 12 noon at the church. Burial will be in Mt. Zoar A.M.E. Cemetery, Conowingo, Maryland.
